I never get my makeup professionally done, I'm always afraid to. I've been afraid I would look overdone. I made an appointment to get my makeup done for the day of our 30th wedding anniversary. Jaron was scheduled to make me up. He asked me if I'd like a natural, dramatic or in between natural and dramatic look. I told him I'd love in between because it was a special day and we were taking many photos. I showed him my dresses, I would be wearing two dresses and our anniversary party was an old Hollywood theme. I also asked if it was possible for the make up to last all day. My sister in law came to get her make up done as well as I was purchasing some of the makeup Jaron put on me my sister in law surprised me by buying everything as an anniversary gift. So so sweet and such a great treat. My husband prefers a natural look but he thought I looked gorgeous. He said he was hoping it would be more than natural for this special day. Jaron did a fabulous job! I was so very happy. He matched my foundation color to the T, he gave me a classic deep red wine lip color that had some shimmer/glitter to it. And my cheekbones were so dramatic. He gave me a beautiful Smokey eye. Hubby kissed me throughout the night yet his lips were not smothered with the lipstick. My makeup did not smear or fade even once. I was thrilled with every photo that was taken all because of Jaron's amazing flawless talent. I wish I could get my makeup done all the time now. I've already tried to get my makeup done again with Jaron but he wasn't there and the day was booked. Be sure to book your makeup appointments ahead of time. I like this store better than the one in SF by Macy's because it's small and personal. I like that the staff will help you find colors to wear. But the most frustrating thing for me is that I can find a color that looks very good on me and wear it, but once I'm done, I can't go back and find it. The color of the barrels and pencils have changed, the color name may have changed. In a case like that, it feels like doing something like buying several of one color is in in order, but that doesn't work. Their lipsticks expire and run. I do like their service and find them to be better than the store across the street, but being that I'm not a regular makeup wearer or buyer, I just wonder the wisdom of buying something that won't hold up for as long as I'd like. I certainly hope that the people working there are being paid a fare wage because they seem to like working there and seem quite knowledgeable. First of all, I am particular about make up stores. If I walk into a messy counter, empty shelves, dirty products I turn right around and don't give a second thought. And worst, rude sales reps. But not at this location! Very clean, organized and I love all the skin tones they cover. I am the worst when it comes to finding my right foundation. Thank goodness Osha M was there to help me!!!!! Not only did she take her time showing me different shades, she allowed my face to oxidize! Make up changes quickly to my temperature and she sure did notice. I'm here today for National Lipstick Day. This annual event is hosted by several cosmetic chains. You get a free lipstick but there are only 100 per store. The lipstick value is $18.50. I got here at 9:30 am and was #28 in line. The line is VERY long. It's also a very cold & windy end of July day. They only allow 9 customers in at a time. It's cool cuz I brought a light jacket & music. The Aaliyah limited line was also 30%off for today only. I bought 5 lipsticks and glosses from this line to sell on eBay at some ridiculous price later. I like that MAC takes your empty containers and will give you a FREE lipstick or shadow of your choice for every 6 empties. I got one of those in addition to the freebie (I LOVE freebies!). I was in desperate need of makeup for an event later that evening. Signed up For a 15 minute consult online. Was warmly greeted by Marta who asked me about my preferences and she took the time to understand my needs. She sat me down and walked me through the products. I was impressed with how hygienic she was about everything and she took appropriate COVID precautions. She did an awesome job with my makeup and I walked out with products I love and use. She even spent extra time above and beyond the 15 minutes as they were not busy and she wanted to make sure my makeup would hold up until that evening. Ugh. I did NOT want to come here. Kinda like ladies don't want to go shopping in Napa Auto Parts. But, missy says she needs some concealer something-or-the-other and Macy's was going to be more expensive. I've always heard women speak in reverential tones when the subject is makeup and MAC comes up. So it must be good stuff. Its too bad that 4th St parking is always a hassle. And this is a -cramped- little store. All the better to make me feel uncomfortable walking in with no woman (all the women turning to stare, like a dangerous alien just walked in, didn't help either). Had to withhold a double take at the workers. Some looked completely out of place, IMO. I will not go into detail because it'll cause ill words, but some just didn't look like MAC-level stuff was what they were selling. This is one of my favorite MAC stores or make up store. Well, so far Mac makeup is the only one that I know I'm not allergic to. The place is fairly big, the ladies are nice and they don't always upsell you. It's also the closest one to my house. Few things I don't quite like about this place: parking can be hard on the weekends. they close at 6 pm service can be confusing. I came in Saturday to replenish my make up supplies and a lady greeted me, showed me their new products and right when I'm about to tell her I'm buying, one of the staff pulled her to put make up on someone. Then I stood there in the middle of the store waiting for someone to help me. 10 mins later I got my help. This place is always busy on the weekends. I think they should put more staff to help everyone... maybe a couple of separate girls to just put make up on. read more

Admittedly, I've tried other products...however, I keep coming back to MAC as for me, there is nothing better. I love MAC Cosmetics!!! I had a wedding to go to and wanted to look extra good. So at the last minute I called to see if they had any appointments available within the hour. The lady on the phone said that they were booked but that I was welcome to walk in and they would do their best to accommodate. Within 10 minutes I was paired with a makeup artist and she begun the daunting task of applying my makeup. Forty minutes later, I was beyond ecstatic with the results. Rachel did an awesome job and all night I received so many compliments, my photos came out flawless as well. Instead of working with me to find something in my shade, she says "so what do you want me to do about it". I gave up and decided to go ahead with the return. She could not find my receipt in the system and then insinuated that I stole the makeup. It never occurred to her that I bought the makeup online and to look for the receipt that way. I am a loyal MAC customer. I am friends with artists at a few of the San Francisco stores. I get postcards and updates from MAC's corporate offices. I love MAC. This has got to be the most disappointing experience I've ever had at MAC. I ordered a mineralize skin finish online, and didn't like the shade. MAC tends to have a pretty good return policy, and I called corporate to see if I could return it in stores, so I wouldn't have to ship it back to MAC. The woman, from corporate, said that I could do it but I would have to call the store ahead of time, because some stores can't do it. I understand. So I called the bloomingdale's in SF, and they said that since they were a department store MAC, they couldn't take returns from the website. Ok, that makes sense. They directed me to the MAC store in Berkeley. I called the MAC store on 4th street and spoke to a manager, she said yes of course, just bring in the packing slip. I went in today, and it was awful. First off, there were only two girls on the floor. One was a short girl who wore too much blush, the other was a taller, thicker girl who really liked to point. As in, "I will help you as soon as I help her *points*, her *points*, and her *points* ". Kind of rude, but ok. As I came in, no one greeted me and I stood there waiting. And waiting. And waiting. I saw someone else come in after me. The tall pointy one said that she would help her, then me. I said to miss pointy that I was here before the woman who got in after me. She looked at me and smiled. What the hell. Eventually, while pointy was ringing something up, I was tweeting about my frustration, and the woman who got in after me was beaming because she (a woman with more bronzer on than a Jersey Shore reject) was ahead of me, the short girl asked if I had any quick questions before she got to the next appointed point. I said that I just needed to return something. She said she can't take a return from online. I explained that corporate said I could, that her manager said I could, and she said "sorry." Horrible service, rude employees, and just overall an awful experience. As a customer I deserve better and always receive better service than I got. It will always be worth it to trek out to San Francisco, where MAC employees are actually helpful and have brains. And PS, short girl? Wash your face. read more

Don't get me wrong, I love my MAC. I never enter a MAC store or approach a MAC counter without my recyclables for a free tube of lipstick. I love standing in front of the eye shadows and watching my entire wardrobe flash before my eyes. Yes, that's me... the obnoxious bitch you can't get around. Sorry 'bout that. Unfortunately, the MAC store on 4th has a lot of other needy makeup buyers just like me. I can never seem to get help in a reasonable amount of time. If I get something I need, it's while my friendly MAC associate is helping three-four other people simultaneously. Call me high maintenance, but if I'm going to spend $150-$200 on makeup, I want someone to sit down with me and gab. Is that too much to ask? I want to be told if the eyeshadow I'm trying on makes me look beautiful or makes me look dead. Or if the foundation I'm trying makes me look like I spent too much time in a tanning bed. The amount of space in the store is decent, but it was a tad bit bigger. I'd imagine their sales volume is pretty good. I wish they'd hire more people. read more

This has got to be one of my favorite Mac stores. It's great to finally walk in a MAC and not have every one look like scary clowns with their make-up piled on their face. It's very intimidating to walk into a store looking to purchase items, then needing help and seeing nothing but bobo the clowns working there. Many MAC stores that I've encountered have turned the smoky eye concept to a suicide look. In any case, this store is great. Like all other MAC stores, the setup is great, the lighting is wonderful and the array of choices and colors to choose from is endless. What I particularly love about this store is the customer service is fabulous!!! Their very helpful and have a keen eye for what actually looks good on you rather than what looks good for their cash register. On my red lipstick hunt, after being in Sephora for hours and not finding anything that quite matched the red I was looking for or matched my skin, My Cali BFF was like I should go to MAC. Thank GOD I did!!! Not only after tons of trying on all the reds in the store, I damn near liked every single one of them. I made off like a fat rat and found three that I couldn't live without but decided to only purchase two. I don't know if it's only near the winter though as they place a million lights, then again I've only been here one other time and that was also during the winter. Anyways, the service here is like a two star rating would say 'Meh,' I of course came in looking to purchase some products. I wasn't greeted upon arrival, at least if I was it wasn't good enough to remember. So I waited near the counter waiting for someone to be available and when they were they just said 'Who's Next?' huh? hmm? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? No kidding, and since I don't pay attention to my surroundings I really had no idea who was next, so of course this random girl said it was her. Then she asked for a color of lipstick I don't think even exists, giiirl puhleez. Anyways, I then let her know what I wanted, which was just 2 products, and she was like uh ok, that's it? YEA THAT'S IT NOW GET ME MY PRODUCTS. Of course, turned out they were sold out of my lipstick, but she didn't even offer to look up where I can get it, etc. I paid my way and she handed my my bag of goodies and didn't say thank you or bye, just gossiped with the rest of the many co workers of hers that stood around as people were looking for help. I tentatively entered the shop with my husband. I say tentatively because I do not like feeling like I'm being "scoped" out and "sold" to. It's aggravating at the best of times and down right off putting when I just want to browse and not field questions on what I'm looking for because half the time I'm not even sure of what I'm looking for myself. The best way to make me feel comfortable in a shop like this is for the salesperson to acknowledge my presence and tell me she's/he's there if I need any help and let the conversation or any inquiries I have happen organically. That's exactly what Sherena did and I ended up buying a lipstick and eyeshadow pallet that love. Sherena was spot on with color suggestions that complement my skin, eye, and hair color. It's a great product with great packaging and a fab ad campaign. This sucker is always judging the book by its cover when it comes to make-up and it's packaging, (ooooh, it's sparkly..) so it's nice to finally land on something that follows through to the inside. I had only been using the lip glass and the prolong wear lipstick, (which will come off with Pond's BTW) until one New Year's Eve where my friend convinced me to have my make-up done by a MAC pro. I did it, and while -I- think I looked like a transvestite, nobody else seemed to think so. I guess I just wasn't used to wearing that much eye shadow. Regardless, the girl did a fab job, explaining as she went along so that even I could repeat her steps. Oh, and it lasts! I had my make-up done at noon that NYE, worked until 10 (in a restaurant) went out late, passed out, and woke up with everything in tact. (make-up wise that is.) I now am MAC through and through, from brushes to mascara. My only issue: The Lighting. I'm not a makeup all day kinda girl. When I go in there without any make-up on, it's down right frightening. It is so well lit you can see every unplucked hair, pimple, sunspot, blotch, oh and I guess that's some cream cheese left over from breakfast stuck in my unbleached mustache! The staff there is always way, WAY overdone, glamorous and colorful and I feel like a slimy snail in a butterfly garden. I have found a way to combat this lingering feeling I'd like to share. This MAC store is probably one of the smallest free-standing stores I've seen -- in fact, it has about the same range of products as a MAC stand that you would find in a Macy's or Nordstrom. They don't carry MAC PRO items, but they do have two or three of the latest limited edition collections available. The staff is friendly and helpful, but I wouldn't come to this MAC store to pick up an item that I knew would be high in demand, because it is likely to be sold out here due to its limited stock. read more

I stayed in Store for 2-3 hours just for getting people help my mom with some makeup. She is not very good at English, but she wants to know makeup skills and some good products. I definitely suggest Mac because this is my favorite cosmetics brand and I owned several products. The store was busy( as always, and this normally happens in other stores I have visited) and one of the employees was very nice to help , but she stopped several times in the middle because she needs to help checking out at counter. While she went out for lunch, I assumed that one of the other employees would help us continue the makeup, but it turns out that no one--even they are not busy with helping other customers --wanted to help us. My mom wants to leave at this moment and pick up an eyeliner that is very easy to use and went toward counter. Unfortunately still no one wanted to check her out. We were very confused and lost in the store because no one noticed us. At this time, a customer came in and one of the employees immediately went to help her and asked what she needed. Wait, isn't she just ignoring us all the time? Seriously?? I am very sad because we are stuck in the store for several hours and only one employee helped us a few. According to my observation, the employees are more friendly toward certain type of people with certain race, dress etc. it is very sad to get this conclusion. I had gone to this location earlier this month with a family member and my girlfriend and was very disappointed in the service we were provided. Originally we all went to MAC so my cousin could get a shade of concealer matched up for her skin tone and, to get a few tips on how to apply the make-up that she was planning on getting. As an associate you would think that they would have no problem with that, right? The manager eventually told the associate that was helping my cousin to move onto helping other people although there was a sufficient amount of employees to help other customers. As my girlfriend and I waited on my cousin I grabbed the cleaner and tissue to disinfect the lip sticks and liner that I wanted to try on because unfortunately I was unacknowledged. Eventually I tried to get the attention of an employee (that I later realized was the manager) to help me match the right Pro Longwear concealer. Instead of getting someone to help me with the match, or informing me that she will be with me shortly, she advised me to self-serve. I did not know what tool was to be used to apply the concealer and she basically sat back and stared as I struggled to apply the concealer. Once I finally was able to apply it correctly and find my match, I told an employee that I would like to purchase NC45 multiple times. The manager that checked us out at the register was pretty short and had a very standoff-ish demeanor. She confirmed my shade was NC45 but when I had gotten home, I found that I had NW50. Also my cousin who knows nothing about make-up was never assisted again for the questions she had. To think back we where dressed very casually (T-shirt, sweatpants). I had heard of different MAC locations had been pretty judgmental on different customers for the way they look and carry themselves, race, or just intimidation but I have never encountered it until I shopped at this location. I've always thought of MAC Cosmetics as such an open, non-discriminatory company, and always have had such a fun and exciting experience shopping for its exceptional products so this experience what so disappointing. There was only one respectful, kind associate working while we were there. I felt that we were not taken seriously as customers as if we were just kids to them that are assuming we were going to buy. I do not plan on coming to this location and will advise others not to as well because of its unprofessional, judgmental environment. I also do believe that MAC should not hire employees that are not ready to work with the general public with out being judgmental. read more

Just want to give a quick review of my experience today: I should start by saying my experience here has always been pleasant. Sometimes you have to wait, but there are only so many people on the floor, so that's fine. Today I came in and was immediately greeted by a very nice, blonde pixie cut lady (great haircut btw) who helped with all of my needs. I like to stock up on all my makeup at once, so it was super nice to have her help me quickly and efficiently with what I needed. She really gave excellent customer service. And btw, some reviews accuse Mac personnel as being "ageist", assisting older women who might have more $ before us younger gals. That's absurd and just not true. I'm in my 20's and often kinda grungy when I come in (having come from school) and am NEVER treated unkindly. That accusation is simply false. Thanks Mac on 4th!
