Jess was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. She helped me find what I was looking for and helped me sign up as a rewards member, which I appreciated. I recently visited Ulta looking for Morphe lip liners and wanted to test a few shades before making a purchase. Unfortunately, all of the tester lip liners were completely worn down and couldn't be used. I asked an associate named Yesenia if there was a sharpener available so I could test the colors. She told me there were no sharpeners in the store and said they could not open a new tester until the current one was completely finished. I was confused by this because customers are unable to properly test the product if the testers cannot be used. I felt that my concerns were dismissed, and the interaction left me feeling like I was more of an inconvenience than a customer needing assistance. Thankfully, my experience completely turned around when I met KeKe. She was absolutely amazing. She took the time to help me find the perfect lip liner and makeup combinations, located a sharpener so I could properly test the shades, and provided thoughtful recommendations that I ended up purchasing. She was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely interested in helping me find the right products. I was also looking for a loose powder that was not on the shelf. KeKe went to the back to check inventory for me, and when it wasn't available, she suggested an alternative product that fit my needs. Her level of customer service went above and beyond. At checkout, Yesenia happened to ring up my purchase. Unfortunately, the interaction was once again very cold. There was no conversation, no thank you, and no effort to create a positive customer experience. I hope management recognizes KeKe for her outstanding customer service. I had a very disappointing experience at the Ulta Salon in Pinole, CA. I had a 12:00 PM appointment 8-8-26 for a simple wash and blow-dry, but when I arrived, I was told they were overbooked and unable to accommodate me. What made the situation worse was how it was handled. The intern/key carrier was unprofessional and came across as rude. There was no real attempt to resolve the issue or offer a solution--just poor customer service overall. In a management role, I would expect better communication, accountability, and professionalism, especially when the mistake was on their end. Alberto, the closing manager, should take a closer look at how the staff is trained and how situations like this are handled. This location could really benefit from stronger leadership and customer service training. Honestly, Ulta headquarters may need to step in and retrain the Pinole, CA team. I understand that mistakes happen, but how you handle them matters--and this experience fell far below expectations. read more

I usually drive out to Sephora in Berkeley and have never had an issue there -- they greet you right away and are always friendly and helpful as soon as you walk in. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience at Ulta in Pinole. If you need assistance, this is by far one of the worst places to shop. **Review for Ulta Beauty - Pinole Location** I'm deeply disappointed and disheartened by the experience my daughter and I had at this Ulta location. What was supposed to be a special and exciting moment--shopping for her prom makeup--turned into one of the most unsettling customer service experiences I've ever had. When we arrived, we walked over to the makeup section to begin browsing for a foundation. Although we were being watched from a distance, no one approached to offer assistance. I went to the cashier to ask if someone could help match my daughter to a foundation. I was told someone would be with us shortly. When the associate arrived, I kindly requested, if possible, for a Black woman to assist us with matching, to ensure a proper skin tone match. I expressed that I meant no offense, and she said she understood. When the makeup artist did come over, she was very pleasant and helped us match a NARS foundation. For that, we were grateful. Unfortunately, things took a turn after that. When we asked for additional help with contour and bronzer, the artist simply pointed us in the direction of the products and made no effort to help with selecting appropriate shades. When I stepped out of the store briefly, I asked my daughter to follow up with the same associate for assistance, and she was told the associate was "busy." I tried my best to help my daughter find something suitable, though this is not my area of expertise. When my daughter later asked the same employee if an item was available, the response she received was cold and dismissive--"I'll see"--before walking off. At that point, it was painfully clear that our requests were no longer being received with any sense of professionalism or willingness to help. We felt uncomfortable, unwelcome, and more importantly, ignored. No other associates approached us during our time in the store. To make matters worse, while I was trying to find a blush, we overheard the associate we had interacted with complaining to a coworker. I can't confirm whether the conversation was about us specifically, but considering she had the time to vent rather than assist, it spoke volumes. This entire experience left my daughter and me feeling unwelcome, unseen, and ultimately profiled. It is painful to feel as though you must prove your worthiness to receive basic customer service. We should not have to dress a certain way or appear a certain way to be treated with dignity and respect in a retail space. We returned every item we picked up--NARS foundation, Fenty gloss, and contour--and left. Thankfully, Sephora in Emeryville was far more accommodating. From the initial phone call, we were welcomed, listened to, and invited in for a consultation. That's the level of service every customer deserves, regardless of race, appearance, or perceived ability to spend. I live in this area. I've shopped at this Ulta often, spent good money, and referred others. After this experience, I will no longer do so. Exceptional service, kindness, and inclusion should be a given--not a privilege. No one should leave a store feeling inhuman, unworthy, or invisible. But that's exactly how we felt. My daughter has her prom tomorrow, and instead of joy and excitement, she left feeling defeated. Called the salon on Sunday several times to schedule an appt with salon. No answer finally asked the front cashier to transfer my call. You lady who answered my call was very rushed quick to answer questions, and when I asked for specifics on the different tears of stylist, she put me on hold and never came back on the phone. If the salon wants to make business, they should train their stylist to have better customer service ! zero star rating and you lost a customer. read more

I don't know if it's because of the change of staff/management over the years but the quality of service has really gone down in the salon. From extra charges due to my hair being thick without being told beforehand and it not being stated online nor in company policy to remarks- I hope that there is extra training implemented in this place for hair stylists. I had a frustrating experience at Ulta Beauty in Pinole in 4/29/2026 . I came in to return a lip gloss I purchased 4 days ago, well within the return window. The lead cashier, Aishwarya, opened the box and immediately said, "this looks used and empty," which came off accusatory. I explained that I had just purchased it and had not used it. Instead of clarifying the process, she said she needed to check with a manager and walked away without explanation. After about 5 minutes, she returned and completed the return anyway. The issue is not the return. It was approved. The issue is how I was treated. If the product qualified for return, there was no reason to make assumptions or create tension. When I addressed her tone, she raised her voice, which made the situation worse. Ulta accepts returns within a set period, even if products are lightly used. So the handling of this situation felt unnecessary and unprofessional. I dealt with Aish on several occasions and each time she lacked customer service skills and very pushy about the Ulta card credit. The bigger question is why does it matter if it was used , do you put back returns ed items back on the shelf? She not once asked me if I used the product she just accused me of using it. Also , As someone with retail experience as a lead cashier a manager approval is typically tied to suspected fraud. My return was legitimate, so the accusation and tone were out of line. read more

There was a young girl leaning up against the counter on her cell phone arguing with who knows there were a few people working I asked a question and they must've looked at me crazy 1 even said I'm on a break! I passed by Ilia and thought that it might be a good match but wanted to check in with someone. I asked Monica for assistance to find the perfect foundation match & I'm blessed. She was super patient and answered all my questions. She was open to answering my questions and assisted me with finding products for me in no rush given how busy it was. I love her attitude, super spontaneous and such a people person! I have been struggling to find a foundation that is a good winter shade for me. Today I went to the store to return a foundation I purchased online that did not match me. While I was browsing Chene'l approached me. Chene'l asked me about my skin and listened to my concerns before color matching me. She picked out a foundation that worked well for me and also helped me find more products that worked with the foundation including pressed powder, blush, eye shadow, and lip gloss. She was so sweet and I could tell she really enjoys helping people out with their make up. She made my shopping experience great! read more

A recurring issue I find visiting this store is with the security. Whenever I visit this location I notice that a specific security guard consistently follows me or comes down the aisle I'm in while I am shopping. This behavior has occurred on multiple occasions. It's extremely uncomfortable and because it happens consistently, I feel unwelcome. I understand the importance of maintaining security and ensuring the safety of both customers and merchandise, however, the behavior of this security guard is unwarranted & excessive. As a loyal customer, a local business owner myself, I believe that I should be able to shop without feeling like I'm being unfairly targeted or monitored. I will now start video documenting. It was easy to socially distance while waiting in line (they have guides). It's very bright inside, which was comforting because so many places are dark, and dank (BevMo next door) and the contrast was refreshing. Honestly the cuts are ok for the price but dont go in with high expectations--keep them LOW! I went in for a blowout service and a styling to get my hair curled for a wedding. Two stars because the stylist was courteous and patient when I arrived late. She was really sweet overall it just crushed me to see the final result. The "curls" came out horrendous, i couldve done a better job at home with my straightener. My hair was still frizzy and she made my hair super flat but adding more product and then flattening my hair. I walked out of there in literal tears bc I wasted my time and now its too late to rewash my hair and start over. I will come back for cuts but NEVER to get my hair styled. read more

This is a late post, but I wanted to share my lack of service at the salon. Unfortunately I never got the opportunity to get my hair and makeup done, even though I booked it a couple weeks in advance. The hair stylist kept putting my appointment on hold the day of my appointment. She was working on another customer, and she kept taking her time with her, and kept telling me that it was only going to be another 15 mins. Well that turned into 45 mins later and I had to get ready for my mom's wedding anniversary in time. I was so upset that I left because it was getting late. I hope that customer she worked on was worth it and gave her good tip that day cuz she lost it with me. Next time the salon needs to be honest with the customers and call them if they don't have the time to do their appointments ahead of time. Maybe the customer will still get upset, but at least they won't waste their time and effort waiting at the salon to then get rejected. Better communication is needed here. read more

She told me to get the Shiseido lash curler & she was so right. It really works well. I've never had a lash curler that I liked which is why I never used them, but this one is worth trying! Walked in today to a nearly dead store. There were about 5 employees. A lady who was working on the floor near perfumes, 3 cashiers and a manager. Also a security guard and someone at the salon. Including myself there was probably... 6 customers at the most. I walked in and around the store for about 30 minutes. I had a $100 giftcard I wanted to use along with buying some gifts for Xmas. I have been to this Ulta before and always had good luck but haven't been to this one in a long time. Maybe because I was dressed down in sweats and a sweatshirt? Or maybe it just wasn't a good day for the workers? I felt like the security guard was around in my area the entire time. I had workers pass by me multiple times without being acknowledged a single time. I was looking at the straightening irons since I just dropped $250 on a keratin treatment and it just so happened to be raining today. If you've ever done keratin there is a curing time of 3 days so I was ready to drop some money to treat myself to a nice straightener. I think the final nail in the coffin was when I went to stand in line with just about $20 worth of items. At this point I just wanted my dry shampoo and to leave. As I'm standing in line the security guard is about 6 feet behind me, the perfume lady is at the front and 3 cashiers are in the front. One cashier was busy helping another lady while the pther 2 cashiers were on their phones, neither acknowledging me in line. I stare and make eye contact and still nothing. I may be petty, but at this point I was so frustrated I just put all the items back in their proper place and left. As I walked out FINALLY I was acknowledged. How funny is that? Anyways. Long story long. I'd rather go to thr Ulta in Concord where my girlfriends have had great experiences with workers helping them find the right makeup foundation and brow shades. read more

All I have to say is I am eternally grateful to JOCELYN!!! She seriously helped me out. I have ZERO make up experience and Jocelyn literally helped me ans showed me how to do a full face. Also, this store is always clean, fun, and inviting!!! All the staff here have always been more than happy to help me out!! Horrendous service, appalling handling of customers, can't tell you how much I loathe this place. My mother in law had an appt to have her hair coloured and styled for a wedding. The stylist left before finishing because of a personal emergency, which is fine, it's Ultas job to then either compensate the client or have someone else take over if they can. The stylist who took over made her wait 40 minutes after taking the colour off, before she applied toner. Then when my mother in law asked for it to be styled, the stylist said no. My mother in law was too tired to argue at that point having been there for hours so she left disappointed having paid full price. I arrive later, for my appointment for formal styling and staff are rude and dismissive, someone eventually came out and told me my appointment had been cancelled. Leaving me screwed on the way of the wedding. She acted surprised that no one had called to inform me, and said several times that someone should have called. To which I responded repeatedly, no one called. She then walked away like the conversation was resolved and I had to seek her out to ask for a manger because that's not ok. At that point you at least offer something for the inconvenience. The icing on the cake is that this was about a year ago. They told me to call this number, email that manager and there was never any resolution. Still. They just never responded. read more

I am a lost cause. I'm 27 with no make up experience and had no idea what kind of hair style I wanted going in. I booked a hair cut appointment with Alejandro in the salon and showed up a bit early. I was able to cruise the store and ran into (Jocelyn?) who helped me when I had a question. She did an amazing job picking out a foundation that fit what I needed. She showed me different brands and went above and beyond. She was like an instant friend! Once I purchased my items, I went back to the salon where I was seated right away. I showed Alejandro 4 pictures of the style I wanted. I even disclosed that I had a hearing aid and no right ear - HE DID SUCH AN AMAZING JOB. I could not stop smiling the whole time, as it has been difficult finding someone I want to go back to. I also got a wash, which I was not expecting so that was an awesome surprise. 10/10 love the workers and vibe of the place. I went for (& recommend) the customized 60min facial, it's starts at 60$+. Kat evaluated my face & made recommendations on what we should do and I trusted her 100%! I woke up in the morning and went to work with no makeup on because my skin feels sooo good and clean, I couldn't even dare put makeup on top of it! ... AND you'll never catch me without makeup. Store: I was very excited to see that there would be an Ulta within minutes from my home. Upon arrival the layout is very clean looking with white lights that are great for trying on makeup. There is a hair salon in the back end of the store as well. This is your all around go to store you can find anything from drugstore cosmetics to higher end ones as well as hair products and nails products. My experience: I browsed around and tried on some stuff was excited to see brands that other high end make up stores do not carry such as NYX that is hard to find besides online. They were low on this specific brand of makeup which was disappointing but to be expected since it is a cheaper alternative with great products. I was told that next shipment is on Thursday so to try next week or to call ahead and they will place the product on hold for me. Customer Service: Unfortunately not the best my friend asked one of the girls at the brow bar if she could do her wax? She simple said "I'm leaving to lunch and turned away" we stood there in awe. I find that the ladies at the brow bar are very un welcoming and rude I don't know exactly if they are independent from Ulta but I will not be coming in here to get my eyebrows wax we went to the salon up the strip instead.
