I had a lovely experience here. Did nit know what i was coming for but wanted to explore the shop. The owner was very kind and welcoming. You can sign up for classes for late spring 2024 through their website. The owner has many teas and can help guide you for a possibly remedy (if you are experiencing parasites for example after a trip overseas) or something as simple as needing to boost your immune system to avoid being sick. He can also offer teas that help you retain supplements you take and if you are experiencing depression he will offer a 30min consultation for $45 prior to determining what herbs to prescribe you and to make sure they don't have a negative effect on medicine you might already be taking. *your teas have to seep 15 min prior to having them. He also makes a great lip balm and a lovely facial serum. Two tea sachets and one face serum cost me $70. I will definitely keep him in mind for future needs. read more

For years I have stuck with a company for all my herbal needs, but recently they discontinued my favorite mixture leaving me open for a new regular bulk supplier. I found this company via yelp and have read raving reviews giving me the impression they were the best ultimately getting my hopes up. With my previous apothecary, the mixture was already premade for me and was perfect. When I contacted this company asking for an explanation of how they came to the conclusion of their mixture, they told me verbatim, "we are an apothecary, we know what we are doing." Yes, I understand you are an apothecary and have more knowledge than the general public but I was simply asking to further my personal knowledge, not to insult their level of expertises. I love this place! I found it a while back while walking to my car after shopping. It's been a favorite ever since. I love that everything is hand made, organic, and just wonderful for my spirit. I have bought things to make some soaps and lotions at home and have also bought some of thier salves and balms, oh the great toothy powder! The teas are amazing. The apothecarist is very knowledgeable about ailments and how to treat them as well as genuinely caring and nice. He recommended a specific tea to slowly wean off of coffee (because coffee is not good for GERD) and my husband says the tea has helped him a lot and is really good. If you want to treat a specific ailment the natural way I would recommend this apothecary shop. I'm a big believer of natural herbal medicine versus getting pumped full of pharmaceuticals. The most charming store, I've worked in a looseleaf tea shop before and I love that B curates the tea blends, travels and brings international tea, is knowledgeable in the oxidation process of making tea, and the functions of each ingredient. This place is really something special and Bobak (the owner) is such an incredible soul I feel honored to have met him. My aunt and I spent 2 hours in his store and I could have stayed 8 more just to listen to him talk, he so knowledgeable on everything in his store, I wish he was here in San Diego so I could go see him once a week. If you have something ailing you he will help you find the solution, and if for some reason the first one doesn't work he'll stop at nothing to find or create something that will. I love everything I purchased his face cream and serums are life changing, I was so bummed he was out of his "sunscreen" but luckily I have a family member who lives in the area that will go back for me when he makes more and send me some. Bobak is a wonderful man and this place is an absolute gem, I hope its around for as long as Bobak wants to share it with us. He is so calming and knowledgeable. I shared some of issues with dry skin that I have, and he gave me so many wonderful tips for my diet and then if I wanted so additional external creams and ointments. His products were amazing and helped my skin feel better for a long time (something even the most expensive creams from stores haven't been able to do). Everyone who walks into this shop will walk out with something that will make them a better person. Although the proprietor may seem to be a wizard with his knowledge and helpful concoctions he is really quite rational and well educated. I personally recommend the very berry serum for the face and neck( rich in anti oxidants) and I love the frankincense and myrrh laundry detergent. He has a sleep tincture that worked when ambion did not. There is a sleepy tea that also worked for me. This is my go to shop for everything from rose lip balm to clay masks and perfumes. He also has organic flavor ingredients for cooking that you won't find elsewhere. Buy a little or a lot, nothing is prepackaged. But the best thing you will walk out with is a spring in your step from having experienced the charm of stepping back in time when you enter Berkeley's oldest functioning shop.
