There was not one miss from Pakoma! We came here on a weekend and it wasn't too busy and we were…read moreable to be warmly greeted and seated right away. From the minute you walk in you can tell that there is something special coming. The interior gives homey vibes similar to being at your Asian grandmothers house. We decided to have the fried chicken set, basil fried rice, roti, and house dumplings. All of these dishes were equally great and portions were large! Our biggest regret is not being able to try the whole menu, but we will be back often for the rest. New favorite Thai Lao diner in the Bay!

Companion was craving both Thai and Laotian food. He found a Pakaoma Thai-Lao diner for us, and we…read moreheaded over. The food is good, and if you're in the neighborhood, it's a casual spot. We arrived on a weekday and were among the few customers. There was a steady flow of folks getting takeout. The ambiance inside is dim, relaxed, with decor and art from the area. There's a decent amount of seating all around, for both pairs and groups. The service was kind and efficient; we were checked on occasionally. So the reason we came was for our love of noodles and other dishes. We got Nam Kao Tod and Pad See Ew. I found the Nam Kao good but wish there was a bit more protein. I've had it before and will say I've enjoyed it more at other locations. The Chicken Pad See Ew was fine, but the noodles were a bit mushier and cut short. The other ingredients were okay. I don't know if I'd order that again. Pakaoma Thai Lao Diner is a decent option if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. It's great that they have both Thai and Lao flavors and dishes. Find them in the shopping complex off San Pablo Ave. with street parking.

I saw pictures of this enticingly delicious looking breakfast sandwich for a "Hot and New" Business…read moreon Yelp....I won't tell you what my eyes were "saying" but I knew my mouth had to get around that sandwich. I visited Eye of the Avocado yesterday which is currently a pop-up in the former Sandbox Bakery/Pinkie's Bakery. On the menu is their signature sandwich which I couldn't even pronounce at first and later figured out that it was the acronym for the sequence of colors in the rainbow: Roy. G. Biv. DUH! They taught us this in kindergarten but I guess I was too busy flirting with Jonathan...this adorabley cute hapa boy (with the Jonathan Bower bowl haircut) that was in my class. Hmmm, I wonder if he's still single?! Back to that signature sandwich...the Roy. G. Biv. - 7 minute egg, herbed butter, cheddar, pickled veggies, brioche ($10). And, what's a breakfast sandwich without bacon (+$3) and avocado (+$2) so I added them both. Gluten-free bread available for +$2. Eye of the Avocado also sells a handful of pastries and coffee. I know $15 is a lot to pay for a breakfast sandwich for a non-sit down restaurant (there's only 3 counter seats and a bench outside) but you're paying for top-notch ingredients here and supporting a small local business. The Roy. G. Biv. may very well be the contender for one of best breakfast sandwiches in San Francisco (with a few tweeks): http://bit.ly/2iMMVrF. The brioche is buttered before toasting which creates sumptuously caramelized edges. The thick bacon was rich and crispy (not too salty) while the perfectly ripe avocado added another layer of butteryness with the pickled veggies giving a punch of acid. The breakfast sandwich had great layers of flavors and was deliciously satisfying. But, you only get one slice bacon so half of the bites were bacon-less. For the price, you should be able to taste the bacon in every bite. I also wish the egg yolk was runnier. IMO, you can't have the ultimate breakfast sandwich without egg porn. The owner and the cashier were super nice, enthusiastic, and you can tell they love what they do. Eye of the Avocado is only running for a couple of more weeks so go get your mouth around the Roy. G. Biv. while you can!
