Better than average roadside ice cream joint on the main highway through Lyons. We stopped to let the pooch have a drink, and we ordered treats. Great menu of fancy flavors! I enjoyed a waffle cone with Vanilla Sea Salt Caramel ( it was enormous: I've ruined dinner), and my daughter had a scoop of birthday cake. Less than $5 for both- great deal! Hands down THE BEST fries I've had in my life. Stopped here for a quick lunch, hubby was lured by the Chicago dog and I opted for just fries. While waiting, I was given an "accidental" twist cone that was made twice. The ice cream was a perfect soft-serve in a cake cone that stayed crispy to the last bite. The first batch of fries didn't turn out well because the oil temp was low in the fryer, so they remade them and apologized for the additional wait. SOOOO worth the extra 3 or so extra minutes, because they were absolutely PERFECT! Thin, crispy hand-cut fries perfectly seasoned with a seasoned salt. Stopped to get a treat after a long hike up the mountain. The lady at the order window was really nice & told us what was in all of the yummy flavors that they had listed on the board. I love soft serve vanilla dipped in butterscotch so I already knew what I wanted. My bf got the peanut butter blast which was peanut butter ice cream with Reece's peanut butter cups, cookie dough and Oreos. We have wanted to stop here for YEARS every time we drive to RMNP but never made it happen (one time we did stop and they had a gas leak so we couldn't eat) so we finally did today. Had the Deluxe Burger with bacon and upgraded to combo with fries and drink. Burger was delicious with fresh toppings, and fries were a really great size, super crispy. Also got a corndog & mozzarella sticks and as we hoped, all the fried stuff was super hot and crispy and actually not even greasy. Our paper trays didn't have a spot of grease it was actually kind of amazing tbh. Three things I think could be improved: more outdoor seating because there's only 4 tables, 3 of which are extremely tiny. (Inside seating is just meh and when it's summer ice cream season outside sitting is obv better!) Second, the mozzarella sticks needed a side of marinara sauce, it's weird it doesn't come with it. And lastly, the menu prices shown online are lower (not by a huge amount) but they should be updated. But otherwise really glad we stopped and we will be back! read more

Really wanted to like this place. The guys working the joint were nice enough. Unfortunately the food was not good at all and expensive. But, it's a cool place to go in a great little town. Just don't expect great food. To me the burgers are more on par with a frozen Bubba burger type thing. Not being dramatic, a Wendy's 1/4lber is better in my opinion. The fries were pretty bad too. Kinda soggy fresh cut fries. FYI, I'm not a fresh cut fry fanatic. They never seem to be crispy enough. Not sure if some of the fries came from a rotten potato or were just scorched. See pics... Mecca of nostalgia!! I have been going to the Dairy Bar ever since I was a kid and it is a symbol of summer in my mind. Their ice cream menu is always changing and I skip giddily to the front to check out what they have on rotation. Trekked over from Longmont looking for a place that has good ice cream.Not out of this world but decent and above and beyond Dairy Queen that's for sure. I had a Pink Cadillac(strawberry/oreo shake) and my husband went with a Raspberry Chocolate malt. The prices are steep, over $7 for a large shake/malt, the wait is long (at least for the to go orders that are waiting outside) and location is less than ideal being right next to the highway. My favorite burger place in the state of Colorado! The staff were polite and cheerful! Will go back every chance I get! My order: Bacon cheeseburger with pickles, side of fries and a death-by-chocolate shake. The meat quality was amazing and the burger and bacon were cooked to perfection. The fries were classic, simple but hit the spot, especially when dipped in a milkshake! In addition the milkshake was almost too intense...so much chocolate! I feel so lucky to have the Dairy Bar in town! They have seriously good burgers (especially love the spicy CO style burger,) as well as ice cream & soft serve! I use my kids as an excuse to stop for a cone, but it's seriously me who's addicted! Bonus they give out cool stickers, too! read more

We stopped here last night while in Lyons to try out their ice cream. First off, instead of calling things small/medium/ or large they have to throw in a twist and make it a calf/cow/heifer for the sizes which makes it pretty confusing. I ordered a dipped cone and it was really messy and small for 3.00. They charge you an entire extra dollar to dip it which is ludicrous. My wife ordered a strawberry shake and it was the worst one EVER. When the girl handed it to her it was like are you kidding, the consistency of water basically for $3.75. Probably the worst experience for ice cream we have ever had any place. Not sure if these people running the place are new to the business but they need major help it would appear. Will not return, could have driven 10 more miles to Sonic and had a much better experience for less money. read more

We stopped here today for ice cream and it was some of the best ice cream I've ever had. I tried the key lime but it was hard to decide because all the flavors sounded amazing. The scoops were generous and the place is so sweet. There was a crowd there and lots of burgers and fries being eaten. They looked delicious and everyone was literally raving about their burgers. Great little stop on the way to Rocky Mountain Park or if you want to take a quick ride to a cute town near Boulder. Worth the drive! All the employees were handling the ice cream cones with their bare hands! I believe there's a code violation for that. The sliding window that they were constantly touching was filthy and then they'd hand you your ice cream without gloves on. Overly priced and sizes of ice cream scoops were inconsistent. read more

Don't bother yourself with the food. The fries are soggy/chewy and taste as if they have been fried at least twice - I ate a few and had to toss the rest. What a waste. Went on a hike to Hall Ranch Trail, thought it might be nice to get a cold treat on our way back home. This ice cream takes me back to this little dive called 'The Twist' my grandmother would take me to located in small town Wisconsin. Amazingly creamy, really good flavor. I got the small twist, and I would have taken a picture but I ate it too fast. Best ice cream I have had in years, I will definitely drive the 25 min to be able to have this ice cream again!! read more
