All the employees were handling the ice cream cones with their bare hands! I believe there's a code violation for that. Don't bother yourself with the food. The fries are soggy/chewy and taste as if they have been fried at least twice - I ate a few and had to toss the rest. What a waste. The shake I had wasn't bad, but nothing about it was 'great'. Tastes like those lame, tasteless, soft serve machines that you can get anywhere. The service could not be worse. There was one small group in front of us and due to the cashier ringing them up incorrectly we waiting for 10 minutes to order. There is no menu, you have to wait until you are at the counter to se a paper version of the ice cream. It then took 10 minutes to get my husbands milkshake. They forgot about my one scoop of ice cream. My husband asked and they were "still working on it." Uhh. Okay. Took another 5 minutes. The 4 people behind us in line got their ice cream and burgers before I received my 1 scoop of ice cream. Fine if you have the time but wouldn't be a place i'd rely on. read more

Delicious ice cream! Very simple walk-up window with a few plastic chairs outside but the ice cream makes all that irrelevant. We love going here for a treat on our way to RMNP. P.S. I noticed that some reviews trashed the fries and hamburgers - well, this is really an ice cream place - that is why everyone goes here. I can't speak for anything else there, but the vanilla milkshake I had this afternoon after several hours of hiking was excellent. Lots of vanilla flavor, very creamy, and it had those little frozen bits that make old-timey shakes so good. I look forward to my next one! read more

My dad and I stopped by here today. I ordered a single scoop of ice cream in a cup and he ordered a chocolate malt. Together it cost over $11. Lyons isn't enough of a tourist town to justify that high of a price. My single scoop was small and my dad's chocolate malt was the consistency of chocolate milk. This is becoming a standard weekend summer time treat for ice cream. Delicious! Have not had any of the food menu items, so I can't comment on those. My only wish is that they would add more choices for the ice cream or rotate the options more often. I've never tried the food there but my family and I have gone there for ice cream and shakes and those have always been good. The setup is a little bit strange. You have to order outside at the window, wait to pickup your order at a 2nd window, and then go inside to eat. We don't mind it though. We still like the place. read more

I've been a patron of the Dairy Bar for about 8 years now. They serve really great ice cream and food, if you can handle how slow it is all prepared, but the business is very poorly run. A while back, the business switched ownership and the outcome was definitely not favorable. Quality control is basically non-existent. Several times I have ordered a scoop of ice cream and have been handed a bowl of melted ice cream soup at the window. The server will apologize and then close the window on me. If your ice cream isn't frozen, don't serve it! The decor of the outside and indoor sitting area has also gone downhill. Everything used to be very charmingly decorated, but now the decor looks like it came from a landfill, the trash cans sit in the middle of the eating areas and severely need a wipe down, and the whole place is just kind of dirty and sticky. We can rarely find a clean place to sit, so I've resorted to bringing my own wipes. I miss the old owners and their attention to detail. The Dairy Bar is sadly now kind of rundown. read more

My family has been coming here for about 20 years and I would've given it 5 stars... up until the last time I visited, when I would've given it 1. I am giving it 3 based on 20 years of memories of an amazing, clean, friendly, affordable, and delicious ice cream experience... but the last time we went we had such a bad experience we will not be returning for quite some time. We last went over Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, I think). When we pulled in there were two people, a man and a woman, sitting in the front booth smoking. They didn't look at us when we pulled in so we assumed they were customers. There was no one at the counter and we waiting for a few minutes before the man from the front came around and walked in! He smelled so strongly of cigarette smoke I was concerned about him preparing my ice cream. He was NOT friendly, would not look at us, and barely acknowledged our order. We ordered two vanilla cones, one dipped in butterscotch and one dipped in cherry. We got a vanilla dipped in chocolate and a vanilla dipped in butterscotch that had obviously been mixed incorrectly... it was so thin you could see through it and the ice cream leaked through. The cones were also misshapen and lopsided. The person who made them was either very inexperienced or just didn't care. We ate the cones perched on some stools because the tables were dirty. The guy went back to the front booth. A few minutes later another family pulled in and they were completely ignored for several minutes. We finally told them the people sitting and smoking in the front were the employees. They had to go get them and ask to be served. This time the woman came, and she also smelled horrible! Not appropriate for food service. They both looked more like loiterers than employees, and if they had enough time to sit and smoke in the front they obviously had time to clean the tables and make some proper butterscotch! I hope the Dairy Bar replaces these employees and cleans up its act. This is a great local establishment and we would like to be regulars once again! read more

This place has new ownerships since, I believe, 2012 or 13. They have a new name and new equipment, and in spring 2014 opened an indoor sitting area.And it's NOT just ice cream, but high quality hot sandwiches. It is painted with big black/white spots, like a Holstein cow. And, they've added Boulder Glacier ice cream (which only sells its product in limited stores) which has tons of stuff in it, like white chocolate chunks. Plus the normal soft cones. (but like any good quality ice cream, you cant buy it cheap any more.) They have daily specials on their sign, and regulars can use a punch card for future discounts. School kids get specials at lunch time. And offer something like a 6-pack of cones at a discount. They claim to have great burgers done fast, and Vienna beef dogs, but I cant stop ordering their Ruebens and Philly Cheese Steak--Great!! both in taste and authentic ingredients. Oh, and crispy fries. Combos are $2 more. Opens at 11:30, so no breakfast; but might open sooner in summer? There's tables and chairs outside; and an awning. read more

Been going to this spot 20+ years. New ownership has been disappointing. Half the ice cream flavors are out of stock. They allow 14 & 15 year old kids to run the place; and they're running it into the ground. If it wasn't for their ideal location this place would be out of business. We stumbled upon the Lyon's Dairy Bar on a drive and I can say it was definitely worth the stop. The staff were incredibly friendly, the burgers were super fresh and you cannot go wrong with their ice cream. If I lived in this area, I'd most certainly frequent here. read more

Here's my thought on the Dairy Bar. Great ice cream, shakes, floats (try the lemon gelato float when it's hot...). With food you have to be a bit selective to get really good stuff: reuben, chicken reuben (don't think that's on the menu, but it's good), and their specialty burgers. I will give them 5stars for the ice cream, shakes, and other cool summer items. Food gets 5stars b/c Lyons doesn't have any quick options for lunch taht i like and if you know what to pick, it's definitely good. read more
