I came to Lux Nails because my usual guy has the flu. I had been here when George owned it and it was great! I walked in and was asked several times if I wanted gel polish for my pedicure and said no. I got my pedicure and noticed a smudge while sitting there, I said something and it was fixed. I came home and had weird imprints on my nails. I touched my nails 2 hours after the pedicure and it was tacky and the polish slid right off. I have never had this happen. read more

Just moved here and am trying out salons. I had a nice visit the first time I came to Lux, but my second was disappointing. I had made an appointment two weeks prior, but when I walked in, no one addressed me for 20 minutes. When I finally got their attention, they said my technician wasn't working, and kind of seemed frazzled as to what to do with me. I would have appreciated a heads' up that the person I'd made the appointment with wasn't there, or for them to be able to staff the salon to handle existing appointments. I wouldn't have minded rescheduling. Instead they left me sitting there for almost half an hour. I sat down with another technician, who asked what shape of nail I wanted; I had been growing out my natural nails and told her I wanted to keep as much length as possible, with a square nail. She proceeded to file OFF all the nail growth, and gave me a very round shape I didn't want. I had to ask her to fix it over and over. She also applied the base liquid and dip powder much too far down, over my cuticle line. This creates ugly grow-out and does not allow a smooth edge. A second tech then came over to fix it, and I thought things would improve. However, when she did the dip powder, she did not file my nails at all; just lumped on the bulky dip and was about to apply clear gel topcoat to cure under the light, when I asked if she was going to file down to smooth out all the ridges and uneven bumps? This was so odd as it wasn't even a perspective thing - I get that some techs do different shapes or styles, but this was just basic lack of knowledge for dip powder application. My nails were horribly thick, clunky, and misshapen. Not at all what you want from a professional salon. By this point, so much time had passed and it was clear these techs did not know how to correctly do a dip manicure, so I decided to leave and finish filing at home. I paid and left. Really disappointing. It took me over an hour to fix at home. read more

I went here for the first time with my best friend & they OVERCHARGED us like crazy. we both had to pay $150 each for our hands and feet?? no art or nothing! ON TOP of that, damn bear every single one of my nails CRACKED in half! they were so brittle and painful. i wouldnt wish for anyone to go to this place!!! If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went in for a gel manicure and ended up going with a dip powder service instead. First time ever trying it so I didn't know what to expect. The mail tech didn't shape my nails the same. He scrapped the current gel on my nails off before enough had soaked off, damaging my nails. There were bumps and inconsistencies with the dip powder that was applied. And to top it off I'm pretty sure he was falling asleep as he was using the electric filer/smoother. I will not be returning to a place that has mail techs who don't care about details and fall asleep as they're working! read more

We made an appointment at 12PM but had to wait until almost 1PM for them to start our Pedis. Then once they jumped in to start they didn't even ask what we'd want besides what type of polish. My technician did the bare minimum and was done in 20 minutes. I've never had a nail tech not scrub my feet with a microplane‍. I asked for a gel pedi to be done so they'd last longer but the next day while I was cleaning my house I found a gel nail that matched my toes and realized that it had already flaked off. Didn't even last 24 hours. I was willing to let go of the lack of time spent on my feet but when they didn't even last 24 hours for $40 plus tip. Extremely disappointed. read more

First time coming here on a recommendation from my son. Pedicure was great for gel polish (which I thought was $15 for hands and feet not 15 each) anyway pedicure was fantastic. Now onto the full set. I think the young lady must've been new. 1st the acrylic was so thick and crooked filing took well over an hour. She chewed 4 of fingers up with the Dremel tool making my cuticles bleed, finally she cut my thumb pushing back cuticle with emery board and trying to file. At this point I was like its fine let's just polish. I think she should stick to pedicures or fill in full set isn't her strong suit. If I had just gotten pedicure review would be 5 stars! read more

I can't say enough good things about Lux Nail Spa. The salon is clean, the staff is friendly and professional. I get my nails dipped regularly by Helen about every 3 weeks. My nails are normally brittle and chip easily but since Ive been coming here I've been able to grow my nails to my desired length. They NEVER break or chip between visits. Helen is a true professional and so talented. Also I would also highly recommend the deluxe or volcano pedicure by Ann. Be prepared to sit back and relax. She takes her time and pampers you. When I say this is the best pedicure you will ever get I mean it. Ann is so kind and really makes sure you are comfortable and happy with the results. Never again! I travel for a living and I go to hundreds of nail salons all over the states. Never had I been so disappointed in the work and the customer service I received at this nail salon! I'm not from here and I stopped at the first "nice looking" nail salon on my way to work. First of all I told the lady who greeted me that I wanted a manicure and my dip powder removed and new dip powder added. I picked a color (DD75) which is a dark gray color. She dipped my nails in a liquid with a piece of paper towel inside and told me to rub the powder off while I'm dipping my nails (I'm sorry, isn't this your job?!). I've never had my powder removed that way, normally it's wrapped in aluminum foil and a soaked cotton, which takes about 5 minutes to work. The liquid bowl and paper towel took about 10-12 minutes. Secondly, she never gave me a manicure, at this point I just wanted to leave so I didn't say anything regarding my manicure. She did two coats on my nails with the powder and by the time she was done, the color was light and I could see through the color. I said that it wasn't dark like the sample. This is when the other lady (who greeted me) told me, "they don't always come out the same color as the sample" ummm I'm sorry but why show a sample that will look nothing what it shows. Please explain! I believe she was the manager or owner, but basically she told me to deal with it, that there is nothing they can do about how it shows up! I said that the color is not dark and that is wasn't what I picked, Ive had this color before and it's been darker. The lady doing my nails said, "I'll do another coat". I said yes, please. The manager lady began to speak another language. Smiling and rolling her eyes while the lady she was talking to was looking at me. At that point I was so aggravated because wether she was or was not talking about me, I felt very uncomfortable, that was extremely unprofessional of them. Finally, when the lady finished, my nails were darker but it was sloppy, I just wanted to get out of there. When I paid my $40 (which probably included the manicure I never got!) no one said bye to me. I stormed out of there and headed to work. Never had I been to a place where I had such a bad experience. If I could give this place no stars I would. I've gone to this salon three different times . The first time I got a new set. The set was amazing . Lisa did a great job. Second time I got a fill and a pedicure. The pedicure was terrible for the the price you pay honestly. 40 dollars to literally get a massage and to paint my toes. As far as the fill I received. George did my fill because Lisa was busy doing my best friends nails . The fill itself was horrible. I asked him to do a V shaped French he stated that he couldn't do it .which was alittle mind blowing sense it's not the hard to do but I settled for a color instead. My nails were lumping and the next day I ended having my thumb nail break. I couldn't get it fixed because I was on going on a trip. I came in after my trip hoping that Lisa would be free to do my fill because she was the one who did my nails perfectly the first time. No! I got George again. I told him what happened the last time he did my nails and said it was my fault my nail broke and all he did was fill it. I told him I want my nails shorter do to the fact that I don't want to break anymore nails. I showed him a picture of the shape and length that I wanted. He said okay and proceeded to take my gel polish off. After taking off all my polish he asked me how short I wanted them so I showed him the picture as he started to drill he says I can't do that. Mind you the shape was the almond shape. This is a nail salon wtf!!? Why can't you do a almond shape? That's pretty common. So I told him if you can't do it then stop I'll take my business elsewhere. Out of the 15 years I've been getting my nails down all over the United States I've never experienced a nail salon who couldn't do basic things... that's terrible customer service and if you can't do basic nails then you shouldn't be doing nails at all! So long story short, it's very upity... for a mani with gel it was $30, a regular mani was I think $14? Pedi was in the 20s with gel... I was here with my son because he's out of school and I just wanted to make sure that he takes time out to care about himself you know? I was dressed in yoga pants and a black shirt, my son was in basketball shorts with a white t-shirt. There was no customer service what so ever. No one said hi asked me for anything and they just told me to have a seat. I waited 45minutes and just got up and left. Customer service was poor, and it may have just been that day. But come on now, at least ask me what I would like to get done so I feel like y'all know I'm there. But, I felt better leaving because for how expensive the service was listed for, I would like my mani and pedi to last 24hours. (Based on other reviews this salon doesn't do a very good job with how long their pedis and manis last.) read more

Don't ever go here to get your eyebrows down I asked for a clean up around my eyebrows, mind you I have thick eyebrows that have a good shape. She then continues to make my eyebrows thin and then on top of that one eyebrow is thinner than the other. read more

I really really wanted to give a good review. I came in. Asked for an acrylic set. I picked a color all standard. When I go to pay, it all cost more than I thought. I go back inside for clarification and they say it's because I got gel. I never asked for gel. They added the gel themselves without asking me. I thought regular acrylic was standard. He said I have to tell them specifically I don't want gel. He said they applied gel at the end. I thought it was a clear top coat. And then I put my hands under the heat to dry as she painted. It's very manipulative. Then, to add insult to injury, he said that he can remove all of my nails and redo them and I can for 15 minutes under the dryer and he will return to me my $10. It wasn't worth it. I just said okay and left. I was ready to tell everyone I know to go there and get their nails done but after they added gel without me knowing and charging me extra for getting the color on 3/4 of my nail instead of the whole nail, I won't be back and I'll leave this review. I'm used to getting color and a clear top coat. If you want gel, you pick out a special gel polish. I didn't do that yet somehow ended up with gel on my nails. I still left a 20% tip. So $63 in total. I'm very disappointed in this experience. read more

I'm new to the area and haven't really established my go to nail salon. I thought I would give this one a try. I wanted to treat myself to dip nails and a pedicure for my birthday. Pedicure was first and it was decent. The lady that did my nails however acting like dip powder was brand new and she didn't know how to use it. She legitimately treated it like it was acrylic powder. I wanted a glitter ombré look and after she did whatever it was that she did to my nails she acted dumb founded when the dip powder didn't stick to my nail. She didn't even use the base for dip. Then she grabbed gel glitter polish and said she was going to use that. I told her first of all you did the dip wrong from the start and if I wanted gel polish I would have asked for it. She said "that's just how I do it"... umm no that's not how this works. Then she attempted to fix her botched work by adding layers of dip powder on top. Which all of a sudden she knew how to do. It made my nails thick and uneven plus they looked awful! At this point I had been there for over two hours and didn't really want to spend my whole birthday away from my family. I told her to just take off the new layers she added and clean it up and I would leave and find someone else later to fix her botched work. I will never go back! They seem like friendly people but they have no idea what they are doing or maybe I just got unlucky with my person. read more

Came in for the first time today with my bestie for pedicures and we both had a great experience. This place has such cute decor and furniture! I love their pedicure/massage chairs, its so relaxing and easy to use. I also would like to add that this place is CLEAN. They have liners in their pedi bowls which is nice and I noticed their nail tools were in sterile processing packages. Most importantly the price of our pedicure was very reasonable. I love this salon. It's in a new plaza building so everything is very clean and well maintained. I came with my 4yo daughter to get mani and pedis for the both of us. They were very nice and so accommodating, my daughter was pretty much splashing around in their pedi foot bowl and got water all over. My favorite about this place is that they use a plastic liner on their pedi bowls! It's very hard to find a place that does this in the Chesapeake area. It helps prevent the spread of everyone else's nasty foot gunk. The prices are average prices, $35 for a mani and pedi. Which I don't think is bad at all. We will definitely be regulars here! read more

This is hands down one of the best nail salons I've been to. I got an acrylic overlay with gel polish. The nail tech took his time with each nail and did an amazing job. The prices are great. It sucks that I was just visiting Chesapeake because I found a great salon. I can't wait to go back this summer and get my nails done again! Oh and they have a cell phone charging station. I have been coming here for years but today they lost my business for good. I came in for a quick color change which I called ahead for - but they asked if I wanted to do a pedicure when I got there. I thought, ok sure why not. I had a little over an hour to kill before I had to be somewhere. The guy that did my pedicure was new and the pedicure took over an hour - which really I did not mind - I appreciated that he was being meticulous, but I was running out of time. I told the gentleman that I was sorry but I need to get to an appointment and that I would have to come back after. I was not complaining at all, and was actually apologizing to him for needing to run out. Well the owner got pissed and yelled at me in front of other customers saying I should not have agreed to a pedicure if I didn't have time. First of all, I have NEVER had a pedicure last over an hour so I genuinely thought I had time, and secondly, I was NOT complaining, nor was I being rude in any way. The fact that she was so nasty to me in over the situation and in front of her customers was it for me. I will never go back. read more

My daughter and I went and each got a full set of acrylics nails, hers with a gel nail polish and mine with the clear gel French style nails. I saw George and my daughter saw the other gentleman. Honestly I'd just consider this place to be a major sigh or shoulder shrug. Nothing special but not the worst either. My gel manicure felt rushed and there's streaks and some spots that appear patchy. My nails aren't filed evenly either and there are places that feel like they'll be easily snagged on clothing, etc. When I mentioned this, they weren't fixed. this is my first yelp review. i'm only making this review because of how absurd this salon is. Went into the shop today because my normal nail. tech was really booked. came in with three of my friends, all of us getting acrylic sets. everything was going fine at first and the women with glasses doing my friends nails made a mistake and my friend called her out on it and the woman got mad and said my friend made the mistake not her and then charged her for two sets of gel nail when she never even did gel yet on the first one. All of our nails were all uneven and bulky looking I asked for a certain shape and did not get it instead I got these blocky short nails when I wanted long coffin shaped nails like I usually get. I asked for a glossy black nail polish and he was doing that at first then he said he was going to at least something special at the end and before I realize that when I pulled my hand out from under the heat he made my nails matte after I specifically asked for glossy nails. I wanted to like this place in the staff but after the two men doing our nails got comfortable they made unprofessional jokes. at the end total and then it up being $245.... i'll never go back, neither will my friends. read more
