This review is for an old visit, but I wanted to recommend Arlene & give her a lil shoutout for her great attitude & exceptional service. I made an appointment for a cut & color a while back. Like most salons, they don't quote a price for color over the phone because it can vary. The stylist needs to see your hair & determine cost based on what you want. I spent more than planned, but I am reminded of the old saying... You get what you pay for. Upon entering Lux Aveda, I was immediately greeted by beautiful, calming scents & an enchanting visual display... it was like entering a rainforest! I was greeted, checked in, & offered this delicious tea that I'm now addicted to. Yup, I bought a package to take home & am loving it. My consultation with Arlene went very smoothly. I could easily book the session online, was checked in right away upon arrival, the salon was really nice, clean, and had a great scent and vibe. Alex was very cordial and attentive, gave me exactly the cut I was looking for along with a relaxing scalp and hands massage, and took time to walk me through the coloring process and realistic outcomes. I've been skeptical about lifting my dark hair to a lighter color for years now, but felt comfortable enough to schedule a session with her in the next few days. I was fortunate enough to schedule a last minute massage with Mayra for Saturday morning. I sent a text and the staff were able to set up account and get me booked right away. Upon arrival, I was greeted and shown to the salon area. The store front is very cool and the auroras are fantastic as you walk by. Now for the massage... I had a 60 minute with Mayra and let me tell you, her hands are God sent. I play a lot of sports so I have a lot of tension areas throughout my body. She was able to quickly get through my body and hit all the major areas I needed. It was a deep tissue massage and it hurt so good. She is very attentive and adjusts the massage towards your needs. I came for the pain so I let her do her thing. I feel fantastic and ready to take in the day. 12 out of 10 recommended. read more

I got toner done here on 12/9/23 I think that the pricing is high for what it is but Aveda is usually higher price in general so it makes sense. And I loved the results of the toner. I was told by the stylist that she wanted to blow out and straighten my hair. I was fine with this as I like wearing my hair straight. Towards the end she said that if I wanted it straightened she'll charge me $50 extra. I didn't ask for that to begin with (it was offered to be complementary), so now that it would be an extra charge I said no. She offered it then said she'll charge me for it which was odd. I also said my hair is super thick and curly before I booked so they knew to book extra time and even charge me accordingly. Towards the end it felt like the stylist was rushing and as she brushed my hair very fast while it was wet, it hurt me so so badly. She wasn't holding my hair properly to make sure she didn't hurt me with the tangles. I really hope one day I find a salon that understands how to work with thick and curly hair. I left feeling kind of bad that I have thick hair, however I did let them know ahead of time.... I like how my hair looked afterwards I just wish that I wasn't told that they'd style my hair then say they'll charge me $50 for it. Then I wish that it didn't hurt so much. I was told my hair was their workout for the day which I also understand because I have a ton of hair. I could tell she was rushing towards the end and I totally understand if there was another appointment after me but I would have even left with wet hair for a discounted price to save them time and efforts if thick hair was not something they had time for or could handle. I also got a cut. There was one piece missed and was super long so I had to cut it myself when I got home. Mistakes happen... I'm not sure if I'll go back. I need to find a place that can handle thicker hair and not hurt me. The parking was difficult for me to find. It was all taken when I got there and the parking lot is a church where you can't park, so I would suggest coming early to find a spot in order to be on time. The front desk is kind. Everyone is professional and they walk around to make sure you have water or tea if you need it. The salon is clean and they have a spa as well if you do want that as an option for massage or facials. read more

I had been needing a haircut for so long and kept putting it off because I really didn't know where to go. I was disappointed over and over again with the cuts I'd been getting and wanted to find someplace new. Fortunately, after searching online and reading reviews, I found Lux Salon. When I called for an appointment, I knew right away they were the right choice. The receptionist that took my call listened to my concerns, and seemed to understand right away what I was looking for. She suggested one of their stylists, Mercedes, whom she thought would give me just the right cut. When I arrived, everyone was very friendly and made me feel at ease. Since I am a "senior citizen" I was afraid of feeling awkward, but I didn't! Then I met Mercedes and she was wonderful. She gave me some suggestions about the cut and what she thought would work for my challenging type of hair. She was completely on the mark and gave me a fabulous cut! Highly recommended this salon. I have seen Josh, Mercedes and most recently Jennifer and they have all done excellent. My recent visit w Jennifer was fantastic. First time w her and she gave me the best bouncy haircut that I have ever had. I feel fresh faced and young. I also had balayage/highlights done mostly on the front because I requested to feel lighter. She foiled my hair for about and hour and the results were fantastic. Price is not cheap but the service is top notch. They do provide quotes for services and u can go from there to adjust within your budget. I'm a long time customer and don't foresee switching salons anytime soon. read more

I am basing my review on a consultation and haircut, as well as the cutting of my daughter's bangs. A few general things: - very nice front area with products arranged in an appealing way; smells great! Tea and water available - front desk was efficient, and making/confirming the appointment was easy via the website and texting - a variety of services are available including massage and extensions appointments along with typical salon services - the back area where treatments and cuts are done was clean and looked cared for; the overall salon was small but nicely appointed -parking downtown can be rough but there's a lot behind the salon, so there was no issue for me The experience: Alyssa was wonderful for many reasons! - She is very personable but not overly talkative; she works at a good pace - She spends time getting to know you and your hair, as well as your needs during the consultation portion; she both gives suggestions as well as leaves the decisions to you. She set it up so you know what's going to happen and then checks in to show you what she's done. I really appreciated this. If you want more length cut or more shape, she will accommodate. - I brought my 11 year old daughter with me, and not only was she great with her, but she cut bangs for her and taught her how to style them--for free! She also consulted with my daughter on her opinions throughout my service and went with her preferences. - Alyssa gave lots of tips and it was a (quick) educational experience. She explained things in clear, replicable ways. - She never pressured us to purchase products. She stated what she was using and why she used those particular things she chose, and I ended up buying several things. But it was not because I felt pressured, but because I trusted her recommendations. - I ended chemo about 3 years ago, and my hair has been a sensitive spot for me (since it used to be very nice and then grew back very different). I would like to update that the owner did send me a full refund for the kindle and I'm extremely grateful. I have also been refunded for the color job as stated in the post. The conflicting stories about where the kindle was and is no longer were not the owner's fault because I never met him and he didn't even know about it. I went to see Josh. The first time was great. He did root color and a slight snip of my ends. He didn't charge for the snip bcuz as he put it "it was a dusting up" not a hair cut. 2nd appointment same service, but I had a few extensions I brought. Sadly I brought the wrong ones, but twice he said he could make it work and twice I declined, but he kept insisting, so fine he trimmed 3 extension pieces, didn't touch my actual hair, no "dusting up ends." He then billed me over $100 for trimming the wrong extension pieces. He apologized and refunded a day later. I also forgot my kindle oasis on the 2nd visit. Josh texted me that he put it up and I said I would pick it up at my next appointment. Two months later I go in for color and Josh left me with lots of grey hair showing around my face, didn't style my hair and I went directly from chair to bathroom to pull it back. I asked for my kindle and was told the owners were on vacation and that he couldn't get into the safe. After showing them pics of the terrible color job they gave me a refund. Today they told me owners are back, Kindle is gone and they're not responsible. What kind of a salon, that charges this kind of money, treats their customers so poorly? I had to get my root's redone while on vacation because they were that bad. And I didn't get a total refund, they kept $30. And now my kindle oasis is GONE from their safe?! ** UPDATE ** The owner of Lux Salon personally called me. He was troubled to learn that I had a "not so great " experience at Lux salon. He carefully listen to my experience and wanted to do everything to insure that my experience would never again be repeated. I felt he truly felt bad and wanted to make it right!. Cost definitely minus some stars. The color did not last longer and I felt no major impact from it. Outside of the cost. My cut was not good it was very uneven. We surrender hard earned money sometimes with very disappointing results. And this was one of those times. I get it Aveda is for profit however product pushing is torture and the items of good will sell themselves. For color beyond basic I did see gorgeous shades and cuts. I absolutely love Lux Aveda and my amazing stylist Carley (follow her insta at @carleyschair)! I had always been afraid of visiting hair salons, since I have very curly hair and did not want to take the risk of ruining it. Growing up I never colored my hair, and I even would cut it at home for a curly style. But, last year I decided to go lighter with my hair color and came to Aveda to see if they could help. I met with Carley, who was extremely attentive, caring, and enthusiastic about the hair change I wanted. She reassured me that my curls would be safe in the process and took the lightening steps slowly, which I am eternally grateful for. I've gone in now three times to really achieve the ashy-light streaks that I originally wanted, and my curls look better than before. Each treatment was about 3 hours, and I usually spend my time studying or chatting with Carley while the treatment sits. Plus, Carley has always been great with making sure I use the right products on my hair outside the salon. This way it stays healthy and styles better than before! The salon has made a few necessary changes regarding the current pandemic, and I admire the staff's flexibility and perseverance! There is no other place, or person, to trust your hair with. I came in unsure of what I wanted but Carley helped guide my hair transformation and I could not be happier with the results! I bought their Groupon ($50 for $100) which also comes with $10 towards Aveda products which is a great deal for anyone who wants to try out quality plant-based products! Making an appointment was simple enough. I texted their phone number and I assume a robot let me know that they were closed and to try again during normal business hours. So I did. Set and confirmed within five minutes. Limited parking is available in the back behind the building. If you are a first-time client, prepare to spend 2-3 hours here to fully soak in the experience of consultation and trust the process. It was relaxing to have my hair washed with something besides Tresame and Head & Shoulders 2-in-1, and I enjoyed the deep conditioning treatment. Very charming and modern salon. Friendly stylists and a warm, aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, you can smell the aveda incense going, such a nice relaxing touch. I've bought many items here from their front store, like grapefruit candles, essential oils, and a repair mask. The products are high quality. Prior to coming here, I had never been to an aveda salon. I asked for someone who had knowledge of curly/ frizzy hair and they paired me with a new talent or studio stylist Janessa. (funny cause we have the same name!) I'm not too sure how the tiers work, but I think there are a few tiers that go up based on expertise, which also increase the price. First time, just got my hair cut. Nice experience and they offer a neck and arm massage! :) Second time, got my hair highlighted and toned (walked out the door around 215 or so) Third time, I got my hair toned because the highlights were a little on the brassy side, but Janessa was super nice and was able to fix it right up!! Overall, Love the salon. My one critic would be to not double book appointments. I set time aside and can feel the pressure if I know there is someone else waiting. read more

I am only giving 3 stars for the hair designer who did a good job on my hair cut. The salon gets none. I've been going to Lux Aveda for some time now but this one just sent me over the edge. I bought a gift card to help out the local business during COVID19. It was $100 for a $125 gift card and a free hand cream. I booked an appointment right after they re-opened without using the GC i purchased. Why? Because It wouldn't let me use the GC for the $30 deposit. Okay... whatever. Got my hair cut, all was good and when I went to pay, the cashier told me my overall balance is $65. Em.. I paid $30 on the website to book the appointment with my credit card so the remaining should only be $40. Not $65. The confirmation email said my total is $70. She told me that the prices increased $20 due to COVID19. And an additional charge of $5 was for a treatment I did not ask for. I have never been charged an extra $5 for the same treatment I always received while making a visit to this hair salon prior to COVID19. Oh, btw they are not doing the neck massage B/C of COVID19 and yet they increased their prices. So does this mean the prices will drop once COVID is over? Doubt it. So.. the free hand cream I received, I technically paid full price for it. If you think you got a deal for the $125 for $100 you did not. Do not be fooled. I hate how they played this game. Rather not get the hand cream and pay the regular price. I wonder how much the cost is to give out the hand cream for free. $2? $5?. Its a win and win for Aveda and not for the customer. I even have the confirmation email saying that my appointment total is $70 not $90. This is false advertisement and technically I can report this for overcharging. But I won't. I am going to let it go but I would like to spread awareness regarding this game they play. Not sure if I am going to return to a place like this that plays tricks on their customers. One word: Joseph. I've been eyeballin' the groupons this locations offers and finally committed because I wanted to come back to Aveda and also wanted to find a new salon that I liked. I'm a transplant from Static and needed a new home. Pretty sure I've found one. I came in with the worst hair. The color had grown out, my whites were showing and I had lofty expectations of an "ashy" look. Joseph was kind enough to listen but also polite enough to say "hey, that might not work but here are some alternatives that'll also look great and make you look amazing - just like you wanted." Then I let him work his magic. If you want someone chatty, Joseph isn't really that guy. He confirms with you on what you want and then just basically does his thing. He explained how he'd fix the mess I had made and he did. I'll admit, when it all washed out, I wasn't really impressed. I couldn't see the "wow" factor and I almost wanted to cry. It all just looked black. Where was the red and everything else we talked about? Then it dried, he let it style, and bam there it was! Joseph literally took 10 years off my face and I've been getting non-stop compliments on my look since I walked out. Will I be back? Of course. Should you pay a visit? Yes. read more

Apparently, their website has that disclaimer that they can only do touchups and whatnot a week after the service has been provided. their manager reached out to me and offered a lower price (like 2/3 the price of the color job) to add on more colors to my hair. I am so glad I came back again. Color: I came in for a redo of a previous color treatment. The literal color (from before) was great it just didn't include the ombré I had envisioned. After discussing and looking over photos in greater detail this time, Ria did her thing. 2.5 hours later, this time I can genuinely say I'm happy with the final result. YAAAAASSSS Service: From entering the door I was instantly greeted and given complimentary water and tea. They provide a changing room to change into a robe. Ria made sure we were on the same page this time. We looked through so many photos and talked out technique and everything. The scalp, hand and forearm, neck and shoulder massages put me in such a relaxed mood. All I needed was a delicious gelato to top it off. I was undoubtedly in my happy place, dozing off during the massages. Overall: I'd come back! I'd recommend showing plenty of pictures of the look that you're going for. Less is not more. The place was very clean inside and had enough room for everyone to move around BUT I was quoted $565 for a basic balayage. I have really thin hair and I know I don't take as much product as other people but that wasn't considered. They will charge you hourly on top of all the other things that you also have to pay for. I have been going to this salon for many years, I was so bummed to hear that Clair moved on. I was offered two complementary services, this was there attempt to have me stay at Lux. Well if something's sounds too good to be true.... it usually is!!! I was matched with Liz for hair color and what a disappointment that was. My hair was ruined, the color was so far from what was requested and as Liz attempted to fix it she only damages my hair even more. I never received a follow up phone call from Wade as I had requested (he originally called and personally assured me if I stayed at Lux he would find someone as good as Clair~ NOT!! I called Clair at her new salon (Salon Techniques- Fullerton) and she fit me into her busy schedule and saved the day!!!!!
