I've been in the service industry for 7 years so I'm used to some of the weird things that can occur at a restaurant. I wish I could give this restaurant a great review because the food & drinks were actually pretty killer ! BUT the service from Jason at the bar was simply horrendous. He was rude and snappy back to every customer that he spoke to... I waved my hand and said "hey sir we're ready to order" after no one checking on us for a 30 minute period. His response back was "yeah so are a lot of people" and those antics just continued throughout the night. Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Houston. We have been back several times to enjoy the great food and service. On entering we were greeted by the sweetest hostesses. Our server was very personable and attentive. They start you with chips, salsa, and the best beans. The Margarita's were great! I ordered a combo plate with a chicken taco and 2 chicken enchiladas. It was truly enough for 2 people. The taco was stuffed with tender chicken, lettuce, and tomato. My enchiladas were covered in a green sauce and delicious. We tried Lupe Tortilla in Atascocita when they first opened and it was terrible, so we have not been back for years. However, our friends invited us here for brunch on Saturday. So glad we went back, as our opinion is completely changed! Our server was Kyle and he did an awesome job with a table full of ladies! The brunch menu (Saturday & Sunday only) is amazing! I ordered Benedict eggs with gravy, and it was quite tasty! Would order again! The manager stopped by to check on us after the food came to make sure everything was satisfactory. I had never tried this restaurant before, I was very excited about it. It had just recently opened, the one in Kingwood, so I knew things were not gonna flow as smoothly as usual. I was completely okay with that. As a Texan, I judge a Mexican food place by their chip and salsa first. The red salsa was warm, spicy and in my opinion, not good. Then, they also bring you what looks like nothing but charro beans? Maybe thats what it is? But, I didnt understand the concept, and was not impressed. Next, I asked if they had green "Verde" sauce. They brought that, it was served hot and not good either. I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas, they were OKAY. Nothing to write home about. Went on a Friday night about 630pm. Had to wait about 10 mins for a table of 2. Server was good. My Michelada with dos xx was excellent. Ordered a large queso and it was plenty for two of us and had leftovers. The chicken and steak fajitas were delicious. I typically get amazing service at Lupe and the food is excellent, not tonight. Took my two boys in for a boys dinner night. Ordered drinks, Queso, and meals (one kid crunchy, two kid al carbon tacos, and 2 beef fajita puffy tacos). Waitress mentioned there is an up charge for the beef fajita and I said that's fine. What came first was the Queso before the drinks...waiting almost 10 minutes for chips and drinks. Once the drinks did come I asked for sweetener. Food comes, kids is fine...I take a bite into mine and it is regular beef. Waitress comes by about 10 minutes later and I mentioned it was wrong, she said do you want me to get you new ones? I said yes please and also can I get some sweetener. 15 minutes pass and my kids have been done so I asked to close me out and take the tacos off. Manager was bringing tacos as I was about to get the check, just a "oh I'm sorry, we can box them up." I real liked the location and it's set up. I love the bars location in the middle of the restaurant. Service: Our server was Tony and he was great and super attentive. Management checked on us a couple of times. I appreciated the teams tentativeness. New: I enjoyed the new drinks menu. Came to dine with friends and was helped by Mikayla. She was very sweet and fun. Made great recommendations as we couldn't figure out what we wanted. We started with queso while she went through the menu. She recommended beef n shrimp fajitas which did not disappoint. Overwhelming amount of food, w behaved ourselves and only ate half. The food was mediocre and the waiter was good, then we went to the manager to complain about our to-go order taking ONE HOUR. The waiter kept updating us and apologizing, and I've been a waitress so I know it's not completely his fault, but then I went to ask the manager if it's normal to wait more than 45 minutes for a to-go order and he immediately threw the waiter under the bus and said that it's just been sitting there, BUT they are still waiting for the chicken breast portion. How is that ready to go and just sitting there? Who knows.... I continued by telling him how great out waiter was and that I know it's not his fault be I've worked in the industry before. I also told him how the manager I worked for would have comped at least one item and he was not even apologetic in any kind of way and even rolled his eyes! The food was absolutely amazing and our waiter was very hospitable! So this Lupe experience was pretty nice. I visited on a cool afternoon and they had all their doors open so that the cool air could pass through the restaurant. I decided to eat on their patio al fresco and how nice that was especially since the weather was ideal at a cool 68 degrees. Our server asked if it was our first time there and it was (at that particular location of course) and after answering Yes I swear that it lead to the top notch food and dining experience. Our chips came out nice and warm and then the manager brought out a sample of their best fajita meat. So yummy, marinated in lime and all the right seasoning. Perfect starter to our actual meal. My drink was really good. Yes it was early in the day but you can't have good Tex mex without a good margarita. It's like trying to eat a hotdog without a bun or condiments--it doesn't make sense!. Well to me it doesn't. Back to the food and service. I ordered the fajita meal for two and got a combo of beef and chicken. The beef is just the way it was the first time I ate at Lupe. Tender, great lime marinade and not too salty. You can enjoy it all on it's own. The chicken was alright kind of bland for my taste but ok once you mixed with all the trimmings. So I don't want to loose hope on Lupe and believe that their food and service is excellent and I really do hope that it wasn't just because it was my first time at that location. Sat at the bar on sunday for brunch and the bartenders were terrible and seem to be put out by any requests . Food and drinks were good, but service was the worst I've ever seen at this Atascocita location. Gave em a pass and my wife and her friends went today for Thirsty Thursday after work and the bar table service was once again sub par.
