Pistachio brittle/toffee cookie (3/5)-- wasn't a fan of this one, as the taste was a bit off (either a little bitter or maybe artificial tasting?) and the brittle chunks were super hard, super sweet , and super sticky (like butterfinger filling but less melty!). Cafe in the Pines is open for breakfast and lunch until 2pm and fish buffet on Thursday evening. The buffet is "until we run out." So glad we found it in time. The food was the closest to my mama's good home cooking that I've had since she went into a nursing home. So yummy. We had melt in your mouth smothered pork loin, chicken & dumplings, greens, navy beans, corn. And, the salad with nice big bowl had crisp lettuce leaves, cucumbers, boiled eggs, tomatoes and more. And ... a yeast roll. When we finished, a daughter asked,"would you like a piece of cake?" It was chocolate. :-) The glass of iced tea was tall. I told my husband, "This tastes like it was made with love." Indeed, I heard a farewell "Have a blessed day." The food and service did not disappoint us. Our waitress was very efficient and friendly. We ordered a Club Sandwich with sweet potato fries and a BLT with one trip to the salad bar. Both were tasty and we left them with clean plates. The coffee was hot and fresh and our waitress continued to refill them throughout the meal. Restaurant was clean as were the rest rooms. Vintage decor and pictures give the place an old fashioned appearance. We will certainly return when we can and highly recommend it when you are in town.
