If you are ever around Livingston, seek this place out. It's a mom and pop place. Had some very good food. I had the chopped brisket plate. Wow! Some of the best I've had. Husband had the boudin links the spicy. Omg. They were just the right kind of spice. If we're ever back around we are definitely going back. So many antiques to look at as well. Takes ya back in time.

The wife and I stopped here to grab a bite for lunch. The decor could be called garage sale collectible. The wife of the owner answered all are questions and took our order. We had a chopped beef sandwich and fries. The portions were good, the beef was moist with a great smoked flavor. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the Center, just as we like them. As a first time customer the owner served us each a nice slice of homemade pumpkin pie, which was very good. We definitely will stop here again when in the area.

Fatty brisket. Mmmm.

It has been a few months since I was able to hunt for some good Texas BBQ. It is a bit of a tradition that my oldest daughter, Alli, and I enjoy. I'm not a hunter, so we aren't likely to go kill deer as we spend time together, but we have our own game we like to track down. We decided to have lunch at the Hitch-N-Post in Livingston, TX. It's 3 1/2 hours from home so we had time to work up an appetite. We both ordered untrimmed fatty brisket which in my estimation, is the best tasting meat. I usually try the sausage as well, but we are planning an early supper at another BBQ place and I don't want to gorge myself. The brisket, though cooked, could probably have used another four hours in the smoker to completely render the fat and make the meat fork tender. I actually had to use a knife to cut the meat. There was a beautiful smoke ring and a decent crust, but I was hoping for a denser crust. Then again, this ain't Lockhart. The beans were good, but they were punched up canned beans. The potato salad probably came from Brookshire Brothers, but I came for the meat. The sides are just a bonus. Apparently, the proprietor has a policy to give free cake to first time customers. He was a really nice BBQ enthusiast as he asked if I had tried Snow's in Lexington. Then he started showing me pictures of BBQ joints on his phone. The ambience was a schlockfest with old tricycles dangling from the ceiling and tiki umbrellas reminiscent of Gilligan's Island. It was enjoyable soaking it in while I soaked up sauce with my bread. The food was good. I would rate it a 3.0/5.0, but with the outstanding service and friendly atmosphere, I rate it a solid 3.5. Hitch-N-Post is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Mr: very homey, laid-back atmosphere. Disappointed the ribs were sold out. Brisket, beans, and potato salad were good. Sausage was too much like Eckrich to me. Chocolate cake was very good. Ms.: my favorite set-up of the BBQ joints on the Texas Monthly top 50 we have visited so far--very comfortable and easy on the eyes, homey, clean, family operated--a good representation of what I imagine when I thinkTexas BBQ. friendly, food good. Chocolate cake was a little on the sweet side for me. Good fried okra, fried perhaps just a few moments too long, but I much prefer a little too done over mushy insides any day.

Found this cute little spot after exploring Livingston state Park, and it was most definitely worth it! I got the bacon cheeseburger basket, a sweet tea and a brownie for $15 and it was delicious! Really cool atmosphere with unique signs and seating and of course a friendly little barn kittie to eat with! Definitely recommend stopping here if you're passing through Livingston!

We loved this bar b q ribs. Just delicious and the sauce was the best we ever had. Everyone there was so friendly. The owner even came in and sat down with us and welcomed us to his restaurant. We would defiantly go back. Also love Livingston Texas. Just love it. Thank you for the great lunch. We were just passing through. Won't forget this place.

Double meat with Onion rings. You must try and be hungry.

Wow, I can't believe there's no reviews here despite it being open for 4 years and recently inducted into the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ fo 2013. Good 'cue to be had here! This is probably one of the more quaint and folksy BBQ pits (or any restaurant for that matter) I've been to. There are signs, statues, curios plastered all over the cafe. Theres a counter where you can order from. There is a small patio with random tables and chairs scattered throughout and an area where you can eat inside again with random furniture to sit and relax to. The place looks more like somebody's house or a consignment store selling antique furniture. Very charming and classic Americana. I enjoyed just kicking back on the patio munching on a rib watching traffic drive by on the country road. Located in west Livingston, it's a nice detour if you're driving up 59 towards Lufkin and need a break or if you're fishing at Lake Livingston, great spot for some excellent BBQ. Opened since 09 by a former sheriff. People who work there are very nice. Back to the counter, there's lots of items you can order from their menu. Ranges from BBQ, burgers, boudin balls, and pie. I'm here to check off the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ list, so I was on a mission. Ordered a 3-meat plate to sample their goods. Food comes out quickly. 3 meats included brisket, ribs, and sausages. The sides that came with it included potato salad, pulled pork, bread, pickles, and onions. Starting off with the ribs, the meat was reasonably tender and juicy, but not quite fall off the bone. Probably because I ordered a plate, the ribs were somehow diced? As if you took a rack and cut out cubes of it via a chainsaw instead of pulling by hand rib-by-rib. I say this because the cut was straight but through the bone. Despite the odd way of serving it, the rib itself was tasty. The ribs were generously lathered with their BBQ sauce which was extremely sweet and dense. I'm not a big fan of their sauce and I think it detracted from the rib somewhat. The sausages were very good with a nice snap casing and a subtly sweet and spicy taste to it. The brisket here is tender, has a good smoke ring and decent bark. The potato salad was excellent! The pulled pork had more of that sweet BBQ sauce mixed with beans, yet it worked well as a side item (although it would've been fine as a 4th meat option). Ordered a triple-fudge chocolate cake per their recommendation as their dessert of the day. Cake was moist, delicious, and oh-so fine! BBQ doesn't seem right anymore without a good dessert and this place knows how to do it right! Good stuff here! I'd rank it 3.9 stars. Not necessarily worth driving here solely for the food, but definitely a great place to stop by if you're around Lake Livingston area. I'll probably swing by here again in a few months on my country back roads drives and order the meats separately instead of the platter next time.

Cajun Smokehouse Junction - Bbq sampler with bbq baked beans

Cajun Smokehouse Junction

This is a solid 3.5-star place…read more One thing that everyone should expect from any place that claims to be Cajun/Creole is an abundance of flavor. This place, nestled many miles away from downtown Livingston, is simply a building with a full working kitchen. I did not see a restroom at all. All I saw were refrigerators, stoves, fryers, and a microwave. I am comfortable giving this place 4 stars because the owner said he made everything himself. That would be homemade biscuits, sausages, and boudin. That also includes any sauces he gives you. Enough with all of that: Service is friendly and efficient. The menu isn't large, and the owner does make suggestions. Pricing is way below the area for anything smoked or barbecued. Taste wise, the item with the most flavor was the barbecue baked beans. It gave off a taste of a light smoky molasses. The brisket and ribs were moist and fell off the bones, respectively. Both meats could have used a tad bit more seasoning. The fried boudin jalapeño had good texture but lacked the most in the flavor department. The biscuit tasted homemade and is a smart choice over regular bread. The sausage has balanced flavor and bite. He maintained a juicy meat with his sausage (pause). Overall, if I'm in the area, I would not hesitate to go back to try more items. Be forewarned, get there soon, because he has plans on moving in 2025. One more thing: it's a big kitchen = no where for you to sit inside.

Don't hesitate to check it out! Not from the area and just looked on yelp for something close. The…read moreowner is super nice and the food was excellent! I'll be back next time I pass through
