This place has great chicken livers! That makes it a winner in my book. The service was quick, and the cashier was quite helpful in making suggestions about what she thought was better ("Get the roll, not the biscuit", etc.). If you get the tenders, unless you don't like spice, order them spicy - the regular ones I found a tad bland, and definitely needed salt. On the whole, a good place to get fried chicken, and if you want livers, there's probably no better place nearby. read more

I went through the drive through so I can't speak to ambiance but the service in the drive thru was great. Really friendly and really fast. We got fried chicken and spicy tenders, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, gravy and biscuits. Biscuits were buttery and crispy outside with a soft inside. Chicken had great flavor and was super crispy. The people working there are underpaid and it shows. They take the orders and get it right, but they all seem exasperated just to be there. But if I were working fast food getting 8 bucks an hour, I'd be annoyed as well. The food is REALLY GOOD! Sure, it is frozen, and cooked, but they do a great job. Stopped here while traveling. My to go order was perfect. The food was hot. The food tasted delicious. I added the seasoning packets to my gravy, oh my, that was a good move. Most of the time the food is good and fresh occasionally the macaroni and cheese is a little mmmm. I went in with my grandparents today and first we had ordered a seven piece for the both of them and when it came out it was two pieces and one big one and we asked the manager if we could get more because we ordered SEVEN and he starred at the food for awhile made a huge hurumoh noise and said give me a minute and went back there and never came back out to give it to us . then seconds while we are sitting there he is screaming at his employees in not a professional nor nice appropriate manner which we could not bear to listen to so we got up abd left ! While I was eating I heard her address 3 different regulars by name as they walked in. She goes above and beyond to make you feel special. This place is good. The chicken (or catfish) is cooked to order. You do not get product cooked earlier that has been sitting under heat lamps. No, this is cooked after you order and it is very tasty. The mashed potatoes are, of course, instant, but the béchamel sauce is done properly...it is smooth and homogenized. Coleslaw is good. It is a similar formula to the KFC coleslaw, but better. It is not mayonnaise-loaded, either. I found the salinity of the food to be about right for me. Fries which my wife got were too salty. Rolls were very good. read more

For a fast food restaurant, they do a good job on their spicy tenders - better than any other options in the area including Chik-Fil-A across the street. However their sides have room for improvement. The mashed potatoes are pretty good but the corn is bland and the Mac and cheese you could eat with a straw it's so runny. Staff there are nice but need some Management training, after you provide the food through the window to a car and you realize they shouldn't have received a small cup of gravy with their order - you don't ask the customer to open the box and give you the gravy back - are you going to reuse a small container of gravy - breaks all good food handling rules and I'm sure a health code violation. read more

Instead, we opened it once home, 30 minutes away, where we discovered o my 9 pieces of chicken. Just left chicken express drive thru, had a issue with order. Manager Robin came to window, right off the bat attitude was not pleasant. What's the problem? Where her first words, never spoke. I ordered mash potatoes with the gravy on the side. That simply means don't put it on potatoes. She said she would have to charge me a $1.15 for that. I asked why? This is the best run Chicken Express in the entire chain. I have eaten at this chain all over Texas and the staff here are the best. If Buttercup ever leaves their sales will go down 30% or more. She knows every regular by name or nickname and never stops working. She motivates the rest to be better. Chicken Express - if you have a store struggling then you need to borrow her for a couple of weeks and she will straighten them out or hire new and train them right. Back to Livingston - the catfish is the best in town and the cream gravy for the tenders should be outlawed!!! Sweet tea and shaved ice bring rain! Best place in town! read more

Chicken Express opened several weeks ago, and has been jammed ever since. They feature fried chicken, tenders, catfish, livers/gizzards, and a wide variety of side orders. Our faves are the fried pickles, Mac n cheese, corn nuggets and green beans. Everything is served hot and fresh. Although the prices are a bit higher than the other chicken place in town, Chicken Express is worth a try. A quick suggestion: the crispy catfish fillets are tasty, but are overcooked. Since the pieces are cut thin, they need to be cooked a few minutes less so they won't be so dry. read more

I stopped in for the first time thinking that this looked like a good alternative to the fast food places. It is locally owned and operated. I asked for the popular pick and got the chicken tenders and fried pickles. To my disappointment, the chicken and the fried pickles were cold. The gravy and biscuit were lukewarm, I started not to say anything but figured good feedback would be appreciated. I told them what the problem was and the manager was going to come out. Well, I have been sitting here waiting for the manager for at least 15 minutes (while writing this review) and she still has not shown up. I won't be stopping in again as I guess the manager doesn't want to hear from me. I am the type that wound rather sit and suffer rather than say something and I did twice to the cashier. I was blown away by the service here by "buttercup"! food came out wonderful the lady that took our order brought out our food and used her manners very well. everytime she brought something she would apologize for reaching over the table. she asked if we needed any dipping sauces or ketchup and we needed ranch and ketchup. so she went and got plenty for us to take to our lakehouse. we bought sweet tea and cookies when we ordered food, she knew they were to go so she brought it out when she saw we were about to leave. very amazing country vibe! wish there were more locations like this and an actual store front in the woodlands area! read more

Chicken was good ... Skin was crispy. You get rolls and biscuits. Will definitely go back. My only disappointment was the Mac and cheese was very dry. But it could've been because it was 9:00 pm at night. They do have lots of sides. read more
