had been craving fried catfish all week. I was up in the Willis area for work and got on Yelp to find a restaurant that served fried catfish. I was a little uncertain when I saw the restrooms were on the outside of building, but boy was I in for a surprise when my plate was brought out. i chose the small catfish dinner. it came with 2 sides, hushpuppies, and Texas toast. 4 lightly breaded catfish filets fried to a golden brown, but not overcooked. I had fried okra and chose real potato French fries. I ate every bit of it and was stuffed to the gills. so sad I don't live closer. Will definitely go back when I am up in the area. read more

A fun trip back in time to old east Texas restaurants that were rather rustic but served delicious comfort food. This establishment seems to follow suit quite nostalgically. It greatly reminded me of late sixties early seventies places where you could get a delicious solid chicken fried steak, fried fish and shrimp with excellent sides and satisfying iced tea. They even offer liver and onions or fried chicken gizzards! Deserts vary daily so you need to ask your friendly server. My friends had the blueberry cobbler and loved it. I had a double cheeseburger and it fit the bill nicely. They are known for breakfasts so I will try them on my next trip. A fine family restaurant, a bit of a dive which I love. So on a road trip we stumbled on this Sunday morning. Pretty crowded and it appears a favorite of the locals. The decor is great, it's an older building, located near an RV park. It's the kinda place we love to run across in our travels. Wife had the grilled Pork Chop Country Boy Breakfast, eggs, toast and grits. The cook here knows how to do it right, Pork chop was juicy and most, not dried and over cooked! I had the Sunshine breakfast with eggs, grits a biscuit and gravy and ham. After hearing suggestions about how good the chicken fried steak was, my husband and I decided to try it while we were in town. The salad bar was yummy & fresh. The pasta salad at the salad bar was delicious! I got the chicken fried chicken and my husband got the chicken fried steak. Both were good, but not the best I've had. If we lived in town, this would probably be a regular place we'd visit, and will probably stop in again if we are out this way. We were also in and out within 40 minutes. Service was good. read more

If you have nothing but time and can wait over 40 minutes after you have ordered your meal then it's time to walk out.

We were excited about this place with a 4 1/2 star rating. We chose it over cheddars in Conroe. The food was good. We had a cheese-hamburger, chicken tenders, salad, mashed potatoes, liver & onions, onion rings & fries. They certainly know how to cook their food! The prices were about 40% higher than the menu on yelp so Cheddars would have definitely been cheaper. However, the restaurant itself made my allergies act up. The air vents were filthy with dust everywhere and the restrooms were atrocious. We had high hopes for this place - we have family that lives in this area and we thought we had found a jewel. Take our advice - head on down to cheddars in Conroe. read more

Very quaint restaurant. It is a step back in time to the 1960's. Restroom access is outside. Good people visit this place. The portions are huge. The prices are very affordable. I will definitely be back. We had the fried flounder which was excellent. We also had the chicken fried steak which was more than one person can eat normally. I had a second meal from it at home. We're never going to come back despite my husband's love for a fried food. It took them 20 minutes to take order, and that's because I called one of the waitresses and ask if she was going to take our order. then another FORTY to bring our food. One fried catfish platter, one seafood platter and 2 burger patties with friends fries, 3 tees and 1 water cost us guess how much??? $120+. You have to pay it on the way back and since they have a bathroom outside of the main building and it's so nasty by the way, I had to take kids to the bathroom and my husband stayed there to pay. After we took off and he told me how much he paid I was SHOCKED. I have no idea how that happened because our check was max $50-$55. I called them but they never returned any penny. That was our WORST restaurant experience. Do not recommend this place. read more
