Stopped for lunch on our way through Cold Springs, glad we did. We ordered a BLT with fries and a large Mediterranean Salad. Both were excellent. The server was pleasant but somewhat inattentive. We had to seek her out to get refills for our coffee. The decor is a little tired and could use a refresher but the restaurant was clean. We will certainly stop again and if we get there before 2pm, we may even try the hot food line or salad bar. read more

Catfish weren't biting on Lake Livingston but we found this place!! Catfish from Mississippi.... Clean and sweet! Fried in clean grease, no after taste and fried okra done RIGHT! Thumbs Up: The restaurant opens earlier than most other local spots. Thumbs Up: Most of the food is good, especially the chicken fried steak. Thumbs Up: The bread is excellent--light and airy biscuits, and surprisingly great toast. They probably use salted butter, which adds flavor. Thumbs Down: The omelets are more like egg scrambles. Thumbs Down: The hashbrowns are awful and taste like how an old mobile home smells. Neutral: Service can be a bit slow, and the kitchen might need more help. Thumbs Up: The staff is polite and friendly. Thumbs Up: They've removed the smoking section, so we don't leave smelling like cigarettes anymore--even when we used to get to-go orders. Neutral: I won't eat in the former smoking section because I doubt they've cleaned it well enough to remove the risk of 3rd-hand smoke (it's a thing). Neutral: To-go orders were unavailable for a while, and I'm not sure if they've resumed them due to previous business losses. Thumbs Up: You can get your drink to go. Thumbs Up: The men's restroom has some funny decorations (see the picture), so watch your aim! Thumbs Down: Be cautious about sitting at the tables with tablecloths. They're not cleaned properly, and your clothes can end up stained with kitchen grease. It took our waitress forever to get our food out. When it was delivered you could tell the Food sat in the window under the lights and was cold, my steak was well done , but I ordered it medium rare ,and cold, the potatoes sat so long the cheese congealed because and was an orange greasy blob, the brown gravy was lumpy and old, then the waitress finally brought out my cup of gumbo after I had finished. This is a regular go to Forrest for our to-go. Very small town field Café with a great lunch special. We love their ribeye steaks, fried shrimp, and pie. They have buttermilk pie and chocolate pie and both are wonderful. Side vegetables are really good, we enjoy the greens, fried okra, mashed potatoes, all like grandma used to make. read more

This was our first visit to the Paradise Grill. We went for lunch on a Thursday. The parking lot was nearly full, and the dining room was busy with the locals. We were seated right away. We chose to partake in the steam table lunch special for $8.99. We had our choice of chicken fried steak, fried chicken, or chicken strips, plus two sides and dessert (or sub one side for a trip to the salad bar. We opted for the fried chicken, which was excellent. The sides were of average quality, and the peach cobbler was very good. The salad bar was well-stocked with a fresh and plentiful assortment. Wife & I ordered the special -hamburger steak, gravy, green beans & mashed potato's. Wife's plate was delivered but waitress put mine on another ticket & said would be another 5 min. Was that OK? What should I say? Food was awful. Wish I had saved my $$ and bought some bologna and white bread. At end of meal most servers will ask if everything was OK but not this one. Worst service ever and mediocre food! Waited an hour for our food then waitress dropped the whole tray (she had just dropped another table's food not even five minutes prior). We had to wait again for our food then two of our four meals came out wrong! The waitress also dropped several of my dads onion rings on the floor as she put his plate down and was like, oh well. Manage never came to table to address the situation and was fully aware of all of the mishaps. Waitresses were sh*t talking about our table because I had expressed my concerns and advised that i had never received such bad service (ive beed a server). I then had to approach the kitchen staff to get my food since my waitress was too busy sh*t talking to correct my order, and the waitress ran her mouth telling me to get away from the kitchen and interrupted me several times while i was speaking to the cook. I had finally had enough and told her to shut up. Then the cook threatened me that I would not get my food and I told him then they wont get paid! I asked for the manager/owner who then came out and defended the waitress! I proceeded to tell him our food was dropped, then it came out wrong and at this point it had been 1.5 hours! He did not give a sh*t, it was clear by his rude tone and continued defense of the waitress. The restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for the lack of good service or rudeness. My family and i have spent thousands of dollars over the years at this restaurant and were treated like this was our fault! No apology or acknowledgement of responsibility for the crappy service or messed up order. The same waitress then proceeded to drop more trays and other items! What a sh*t show! Manager/owner was rude, and unprofessional. Food was not good! Service was horrible. When we went to check out the manager/owner then decided to offer to comp our food and I refused. He said it was traumatic for his waitress and again failed to acknowledge any inconvenience or discomfort it caused us, the customers! I told him that I was not arguing with him and just wanted to pay the bill and we would not be back. He then apologized. I told him too late. We wont ever be back! EVER! read more

We've been visiting Cold spring for about a month now, and this is our first visit into this little restaurant, which I feel is the only restaurant in town according to yelp. Other than the subway which does not even count. So glad we stopped in for breakfast. Love the small town atmosphere, everyone knows each other, no masks required. And I haven't heard the 'F' word once! Wtg paradise grille! Lots of choices for a small restaurant, and different ones as well. We shared an order of SOS, and I added some grits and bacon. The SOS were delicious, the home style potatoes were cooked perfect. We chose Texas toast as our bread. Great choice. The portion was big enough to share. Notice I didn't say split. We share. Mike eats way more so I just eat some of his and I'm good. , Plus I did have my yummy grits. So yes, big kudos to this restaurant for the menu and food. Friendly and attentive staff. I've done breakfast only but it's been good portions for the money. Eggs could use a little work but still fair. The biscuits are so good and large.
