Air Conditioning was welcome on this HOT day at the lake. Food- This Diner has lots of selection, including Daily Specials. On Tuesday it was 3 tacos for $9.50. Lots of lground beef, lettuce, tomato , salsa- sour cream was in a package to add as you wish. Sweet Tea, perfect late lunch. Hubby had combo pizza- hot, flavorful, lots of veggies and meats too. Big meal, so I grabbed a slice. Yum. Service- order at the counter, and it was brought to our booth as it came up. That was nice since tacos were faster than pizza. I think it is usual to get your own food at the counter when it's busy. This is a BIG dining area, with counter stools too. Decor- Great! 1950s theme, black n white floor tiles, Movie star and Rock n roll legends on the walls, Route 66 memorial. Lots to look at, well done and fun. Kids could learn a lot here by asking questions of the Grands (that's us) Servers were nice and fun to chat with, fast moving and helpful. This place is Great... was in the area needed lunch and place to sit.... got the double cheese burger and 1/2 order of the onion rings. (More than enough w the burger.) I've been living in coldspring for seven years. Everybody knows the hop everybody knows the staff! we also know the staff are assholes with no respect, or they're sweeter than pie. the high school Studebts esp don't have respect for other high school girls including myself. The atmosphere is tight and honestly agressive with some staff. I don't go in when I see specific staff members working Because of just the dirty looks. when things get to busy and they tell you to pull into parking that's when you know you ain't getting your damn food! They flat won't take it out until you come in then they suddenly decide "oh let's go take out their food now!!" It's down right ridiculous and everybody sick of the shit. now don't get me wrong there's one highschool girl she's got black hair shes the sweetest thing I've ever met, anytime you see her she got a smile on her face she's sweeter than my mamas baking. but seriously they gotta upper they're performlance or everybody gon get sicker than sht. read more

I hate to give a bad review to this place because there or so few places in this area. It had a neat theme and the staff was friendly, but let's face it you go there to eat. The patty on the burger was so thin, it was barely thicker than the pickle. I took mine apart, removed the bottom bun, and folded it together just to try to taste the burger. I got the weekend special which came with the burger, crinkle cut fries and a drink. The fries really had no flavor except that of old cooking oil. I placed a to go order for someone else, and chose the chicken sandwich and onion rings knowing that the burger was not good. They said the chicken was rubbery and seemed like it was steamed or boiled, and not grilled. The onion rings on the other hand were delicious. This place has so much potential and I really wish them the best. read more

I really did not enjoy the food from here. That being said, I would love to see them improve as they are one of the only places to get food around the area and are locally owned and operated. Using fresher ingredients and seasoning said ingredients, as well as the meats, fried items, batters, etc. would make loads of a difference. Everything is just sad, wet, soggy, and smells like old fryer oil. I will say- they whip up a fantastic milk shake. I did a peanut butter-oreo small milkshake and wished I had gotten the large! Otherwise cute and clean interior, I always enjoy a 50s-esque diner. Service was decent, nothing to write home about at all. We moved to Coldspring about 2 months ago and found this great burger joint that was highly recommended as having great food. We tried it out and sure enough, the burgers are really enjoyable. The challenge has been one of the employees that since day one has given my wife and I a nasty attitude every single time we go there. Today I just had enough of being treated nasty for no reason and spoke to Renne the manager about it right in front of the employee. I hope this gets taken care of and if it does I will revise my review. I have passed by the hop several times over the past two years, and finally decided to stop there. You know those small town burger joints that serve amazing food, and have the best milkshakes in the world? This wasn't one of those places. The burger patty was rubbery, the fries were unsalted and tasted like they were fried in oil that had not been changed in months, and while the milkshake wasn't terrible, they made a chocolate shake with chocolate ice cream, now I know not everybody understands this, but the best chocolate shakes are made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, I would expect a place like this to know that. On top of all this the staff was very slow and it felt like they'd rather be anywhere else in the world. This was a pretty major let down because I love the feel of these types of restaurants but they badly missed the mark here. read more

So most people are aware I go EVERYWHERE.. for my clients...on the rare occasion duty calls me to the lakefront community of Livingston.I get a little giddy inside...I know I'm going to be passing through the one horse town called Coldspring. I then plan my stop to this little roadside gem called The Hop. Its unassuming tiny and half the time you can't even tell if its open. The walls are peppered with 50's nostalgia...complete with the black and white checkered floors...the staff is ridiculously friendly. But THE FOOD Y'ALL. The burgers are great. Perfectly toasted buns. Everything is fresh....nothing crazy about the burgers...just good. Get a double if you are super hungry, But the star of the show...the headliner....the cherry on top....THE ONION RINGS. Now total disclaimer...I am not an onion ring fan. I rarely get them, Mostly because most people don't do them right. Too much batter...too thick of a ring...no seasoning...batter comes off when you take a bite.. the list goes on, but these are a work of art. The lightest most angelicly crisp batter with a crunch heard around the room. The perfect sized ring with the thinnest onion possible. Every bite melts in your mouth and ZERO BATTER comes off these rings. Perfect bite every time. I'm telling you its worth the drive. Now if you've saved a little room they do have all your malt shop favorites and a good assortment of shake flavors, or a rootbeer float. Best part is they are CHEAP! Kids...its hard to feed four kids and myself with desserts under $50. Enjoy...and let me know if you go. I'd love to hear your experience. read more

We were camping and decided not to cook so we picked up food from this place. The service was good but they didn't get my burger order correct. On a side note if you accidentally leave your wallet there , you will get it back , however make sure to cancel your credit cards because you might not get them back. read more

The burgers here are great and they value is just the added cherry on top! We like to come here when we go up to the lake to visit family and this place does really have some good burgers. We tried the cheeseburger basket that comes with crinkle fries! Let me tell you, these burgers are good and juicy! We had a shake and a ice cream cone and they were HUGE! Definitely shareable items! The customer service is also great! The young ladies working the window and counter are always very helpful and attentive. I recommend visiting this place if you are in Coldspring! read more

So I saw a lot of different reviews. Some people said this place was absolutely great and others would give them less than a star if they could. So we went in there a little skeptical but willing to try. It is a little '50s decorated diner. I hate to use the word diner because that's a little bit more upscale than what this place is. This is just a few tables and a few booths again, decorated 50s style. You place your order at the counter, there is a menu board basic burgers hot sandwiches I think I heard somebody order a steak finger basket patty melts etc. They do have little personal size pizzas and a wide variety of drinks. The onion rings looked really good on other people's reviews so we did go ahead and order some onion rings a patty melt the double bacon cheeseburger and a Philly cheese steak. We got our food quickly and the prices weren't bad and service wasn't bad. And the food was decent. there was absolutely nothing outstanding about the place nor was there anything wrong about the place. The only issue I had was from a group of teenagers that came in that were loud and obnoxious. I would guess that this is perhaps a local teen type Hangout. So, did we like it? Yes. Would we go back? Probably not for the food but maybe for one of their shakes or malts. Would we recommend? This is a hard one. I do not think I would recommend just because even though the food was tasty, in a greasy spoon sort of way,, the cheeseburgers were very thin and did not fit the bread. The meat on the Philly cheese steak was not near enough what it should have been. The fries and the onion rings were good. But I cannot in all honesty recommend. I'm going to give it just three stars because I can't bring myself to give it four. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat and a lot of pictures of Elvis and 50 nostalgia type items, sure go here. We like to go here after camping at Lake Livingston State Park and it's becoming a tradition. Their burgers are really good, kind of remind me of Whataburger, their fries are a bit generic. Stand out are their shakes, the strawberry is a family favorite with the chunks of strawberries. Next time we're in Lake Livingston we'll definitely make the trip to the Hop. read more

I got their double hamburger and a side of onion rings to go. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak with fries. We ordered everything to-go, during Covid. Given both of those factors, the food was definitely delicious and good bang for your buck. The double hamburger was a little dry but over all, the ingredients seemed fresh. The onion rings were MY FAVORITE part of the meal!!! Even though we ordered to go and ate 20 minutes after getting the food, they were still crispy and delicious. Very flavorful, not too much batter not too much onion - the perfect balance. My husband LOVED his Philly cheesesteak and he is a pretty picky eater. Horrible service and concession stand food. Walked in and elderly couple was waiting on their food, we waited at least 30+min for 2 hamburgers and a grilled chicken sandwich. The elderly couple was never even served their food. They requested a refund and walked out after being ignored for apx 1hr. The staff didn't even act bothered. Shameful! How in the world does this happen when there's only 2 sets of customers?! Our food was cold, and seemed like it had been sitting around. Not sure what's going on, but they might want to hire an adult or two - to run the kids they have working there! I'd advise to keep driving! I have no complaints about the food or service. However, when we were there, the booth next to us had about 6 people. Two of them had NO shoes or socks and their feet were disgustingly black. I asked the girl behind the counter if this was allowed and her response was "I don't know". Found out that she was the sister to the people, and the woman that had no shoes and black feet was walking around wiping tables. Another lady behind the counter even went to their table talking to them. This was disgusting. The burgers are absolutely delicious and so are the onion rings!! The french fries are decent but nowhere as good as the onion rings. If you are vegan or strictly watching your weight dont waste your time or the staffs time, go to an actual health food restaurant. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and taste. Expect large but not huge burgers. The staff is polite but have a reasonable amount of patience with the waitresses they are fairly young and while sweet, a bit ditsy. I stood at the counter for about 10 minutes waiting to get my card back after the cashier just wandered off to whisper with her friends. Overall a nice family friendly restaurant with great burgers. Have yet to eat here. 1st try they were out of all items we asked for. Tonight we stood at the counter, waiting while the two girls talked/giggled at the ice cream machine. When the one girl finally came to take our order, she said it would be 20 minutes then went there the kitchen returning saying "it's going to be an hour there are 7 people ahead of you so do you still want your order?".
