We had a bizarre and extremely unpleasant shopping experience here leading to this very long, detailed review. The short version is they refused to accept insurance even though they are in-network -- AFTER they confirmed our coverage, AFTER they pulled authorizations, AFTER we shopped, AFTER they rang us up with the insurance deduction. Very rude about it as well. My insurance company tried to intervene without success & Lunette never even responded after I filled out their own online customer service form. I will never return to this shop and I hope that no one else has such an awful experience at this chain. Lunette got me in the door as an in network VSP provider. But, I am not paying cash for something that I know, Lunette knows, and the insurance company knows is covered. If you don't like the contract reimbursement rate, please don't sign on to become an in-network VSP provider. Don't pretend that you can't take my insurance to get cash instead. Shame on Lunette. Full details ... I went in to look for sunglasses for my husband & daughter who do not need prescription glasses. Lunette is in network for VSP insurance & we have coverage which allows us to use our frame allowance for nonprescription blue light glasses or non prescription sunglasses (it's called LightCare and it's part of our regular VSP policy). A woman with glasses and short white blond hair (later found out named Jennifer) took my husband's and daughter's info from me and looked up our VSP insurance coverage on Lunette's computer system. She confirmed each of their benefit for non prescription sunglasses under our plan, as expected. I then called my husband & daughter to come join me from a nearby store to try on some pairs. They both shopped for about 15-20 minutes, picked out their sunglasses and left so I could pay and they could shop elsewhere. Jennifer seemed frosty to us while they shopped -- flat, no smiling -- but I didn't take this personally because anyone can have an off day. After they left, Jennifer once again confirmed that our selections were within our coverage and then she rang me up, deducting our insurance. I went to hand her my card to pay but asked about the balance -- it was slightly higher than expected. My questioning seemed to annoy her as it had to do with the taxes, co-pay, etc but said she needed to call her manager to find out. AND she said ... I don't even think we can take this insurance anyway. What? Yes, please call your manager because I'm certain this is covered and I'll call VSP. Jennifer went in the back, came out shortly and said my manager said we can't take your insurance! No apology. She was just rude, like she did not care at all that she wasted our time and would not take the insurance. In fact, she seemed smugly satisfied. I was in shock. AFTER confirming the coverage? AFTER ringing us up? AFTER pulling authorizations? AFTER actually deducting the insurance? I did not know what to say. They wanted me to pay fully out of pocket for something that was covered by my insurance?! No thank you. I was very confused and upset and just left the store. Meanwhile, I got through on my call to VSP. Heidi F. at VSP confirmed our coverage for these sunglass purchases ($200 allowance + 20% for anything additional) AND could see that Lunette had open authorizations. Heidi at VSP stepped in and called the store directly thinking it was just a simple mistake of not understanding how to complete the transaction. Nope -- not a mistake. She spoke to Jennifer, who did not budge. Heidi's hands were tied and she said we should absolutely shop elsewhere and use the insurance. She closed the Lunette authorizations and opened a VSP grievance. Again, shame on Lunette. So sketchy, dishonest, and under-handed. (Fortunately for us, after the Lunette debacle we ended up at Market Square Optical in Newburyport. It was a breath of fresh air. Adorable shop with a great selection of frames. We purchased the same 2 pairs of sunglasses and they happily accepted our insurance, nicely explaining the small out of pocket balance. They prove that an upscale eyewear boutique can also be friendly and professional, and treat customers with respect and kindness. Stopped in yesterday to look for some green Lindbergh glasses and my daughter saw some Ray Bans that she'd seen at Macy's Burlington for about $212. She asked the price and they quoted her $500 "if she didn't want them to take the pink mirrored lenses out! WTF? Just because they're in Lynnfield doesn't mean the price more than doubles when you cross the town line! Not to mention their selection of Lindbergh, Oliver Peoples & Ici Berlin was stale and uninteresting. No reason to go here anymore, overpriced and lacking anything worth paying extra for anymore. read more

Jennifer and her team offer exceptional customer service. I've driven two hours each way on two occasions now specifically to buy Limited edition designer frames from the store. I wasn't able to find these exquisite frames anywhere else. She takes time with you and doesn't try to upsell you on anything and it's a no pressure shopping experience. A few months ago one of my lenses developed a small blister and she was more than happy to replace it under the two-year warranty and was kind enough to handle it all through the mail so I didn't have to drive there and back. I'm sure I'll be back in another two years when my brand of frames comes out with a new version and I'm sure she'll be there greeting me with bells on! Thanks, Jen! read more

I was a customer at a very reputable competitor from the 90's until about 2016. I wanted to switch back to rimless frames and they just didn't have anything I liked. I visited the Lynnfield store and immediately found an excellent pair of Lindberg titanium rimless frames, and, excellent service, and superior quality. When it came time to purchase sunglasses I returned to the north shore competitor and didn't realize they had been purchased by the Mr. Eye Doctor chain. My experience was AWFUL. Repetitively. I spent over $1,000 for a pair of very nice Oliver Peoples frames with progressive lenses. Defective lenses, awful adjustments, repeated returns, long waits. They were so sorry they gave me a free pair of regular glasses. They messed those up, too. Back to Lunette. I explained the issues I had with the competitor I had worked with for years and they never said one bad word about them, they just helped me fix the problems with the glasses I purchased elsewhere. When I broke my Lindberg frames (and this is about six years after purchasing them at Lunette), they sent them back to the manufacturer (I think they are in Denmark), and found that they would still stand behind them! They were repaired at no charge! THAT is the mark of a relationship between Lunette and Lindberg. Last summer I had cataract surgery in both eyes which completely changed my prescription. Lunette advised me on how long I needed to wait to refill prescriptions, and gave me other incredibly helpful advice on how to get through the transition period. When it was time to replace all of my lenses, Lunette aced it again and again. It doesn't matter who you work with there....everyone is incredibly professional, friendly, knowledgeable, honest, and chill. Never any pressure. Can you go to places that cost a little less? Probably. But eyesight is one of the senses we rely on more than any other. You see through your eyes from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep. I have found a company that has it's you know what together (and kept it that way for years) and has earned my business repeatedly. Not budging.... PS I have visited the stores in Boston's financial district and Hingham for adjustments over the years and been equally impressed (but Lynnfield will remain my home store!). read more

I came by hear to get an eye exam, since I was overdue for one and had been putting it off due to the pandemic. I was glad to see that they carefully controlled the number of people in the office and I was able to wear a mask for the whole appointment. While it turns out that I didn't need new glasses because my prescription didn't change, it was a good experience, and easy to get an appointment relative to other places that I'd looked. I've been a customer at Lunette Optic (both the Boston and Lynnfield locations) since 2012. I've always had a wonderful experience. The front desk staff and my optometrist area always very friendly and caring. I also appreciate they carry a wide variety of brands and even ones that are about to be discontinued - I remember earlier this year they went out of their way to get me the glasses I wanted from a brand that was discontinuing that style. During this pandemic, I had to visit Lunette because my contacts prescription expired. And even though I moved a good distance, they were able to take me in when other places around me were heavily booked into the fall. I appreciated their policies and response to COVID and felt very safe during my visit. Even though I'm farther away, Lunette will always be my optometrist of choice. read more

I have now had two unpleasant visits at lunette optics. The first visit was for in our exam which I would normally get from Dr. Joe over at my local Costco, but due to Dr. Joe being so well liked he is booked out for a month and a half. Upon getting my eye exam he had put some sort of eyedrops in my eyes leaving my eyes irritated for the last several months. I was offered a trial pair of contacts lenses which I excepted and made an appointment To have them fitted and a quick training. I showed up a few minutes late and was told to wait while they notify the doctor. I then waited for ten minutes just to be told he now didn't have enough time for my appointment. I feel as if I wasn't made to wait for 10 minutes in the lobby that we would've had plenty of time for the quick training. The doctor was very condescending; Not sure why, I am only speculating but maybe it was because I was in my work attire. No sweat off my brow. I would however recommend that you go into Dr. Joe at Costco on Newburyport street in Danvers. He is worth the wait. read more

Wow! No wonder Lunette Optic has won so many Best of Boston awards. Great selection of chic glasses and the service is outstanding! I'm used to aimlessly walking around optical shops, trying on random pair of glasses on my own and not getting much feedback. Several times, I have bought glasses that are the wrong size and/or inappropriate for my low nose bridge. Last month I visited two different Lunette Optic branches and had a wonderful experience both times. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. They listened carefully to the style of glasses I like and then hand picked several glasses for me to try on. They also gave me their honest opinion on which glasses they thought were most flattering for my face. They have the coolest frames around, including a wide selection of Face a Face and Anne et Valentin that you won't find elsewhere. I usually go to the Lynnfield location. Service is exceptional. I had a pair of glasses made recently at Lunette, using an incorrect prescription I'd received from one of those big chain optical stores. Lunette's optometrist then gave me a more thorough and accurate prescription, and Lunette remade eyeglasses at no additional cost. They're the best! read more

bought glasses there a couple months ago, amazing experience. The employee who helped me, helped me sort through dozens of grams that were basically the same but just a little different haha. Ended up finding the perfect pair for me. I got a discount because I work in the Plaza, which is always a nice surprise. I wish I could select ZERO stars for this practice, but that is not an option....sorry for length of post! I booked appt. for an annual exam, new glasses, new contacts. I explained that I just ran out of contacts unexpectedly. I thought I had 1 more box to go before running out, but was mistaken. They explained the doc was only in a few days per week, and also going on vacation. Upon exam the doctor was very judgemental about me having worn the lenses past the allotted time. I was surprised, and explained that was why I was there- to get a fresh exam and Rx for new contacts. She told me she didn't think I was a good candidate for the daily lenses I had worn for years as I wasn't "managing them well." I explained I knew that- that was why I was there! She begrudgingly agreed to keep Rx as dailies, & gave me a few samples. When I inquired "So, do I order the contacts up front?" She said NO, you have to come back for another appt. I have never had to do this in 20 yrs. of contacts. I was unsure of why this was necessary, maybe to bill insurance again, or make me pay another copay? I ordered glasses, resigned that I just had to wait for the follow up appointment for contacts. Unfortunately, due to a sick child, I had to reschedule that appointment. At the time I was rescheduling I requested to be allowed to order contacts, as now the samples were old. They said NO. I went in for the glasses I ordered, thinking I could just wear those. When I put them on, they were WRONG. I explained these cannot be the right RX, it is *totally* blurry. The woman assured me it was because I had just taken my (old, sample) contacts out, the glasses were fine.That seemed like BS. I had to leave to get children from daycare, so couldn't stay to ask for refund, etc. The glasses-not shockingly-remained incorrect. Then, my eye became infected. I called for an emergency appointment. When I went in, the doctor chastised me for wearing OLD LENSES and that was why my eye was now infected. Very politely I explained that my eye was infected BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT GIVE ME MY RX to order more lenses! I asked NOW can I order contacts? She said....NO. You need to come back again. At this point I was getting pretty fed up. A few days later (still waiting on an appointment with the doc) I called and said please-I need a copy of the Rx (guess what they said) or more samples to get me to this NEXT appointment. They said come in and get more samples. When I went in to pick up the samples, the woman at the front desk looked me up in the computer, and said- one minute- and went in back. The doctor came out, and told me "it was in her best interest that she did not continue providing my eye care." And that no, I could not have more samples. I said- but you told me I could, & I am leaving on a trip TONIGHT. I have NO GLASSES, because the ones you made me are totally wrong, very old sample lenses, and NO RX to order new ones because you won't give it to me!!! She said I was abusing my eyes by wearing old lenses. I thought my head was going to pop off, since the only reason i was wearing old lenses was because she had been holding my Rx hostage for months! I said...OK. and quietly walked out, because there was nothing I could do... After consulting a few people, I found out she is required by LAW to give me my Rx. So... I called the doctor AGAIN and asked for my Rx, Doc said (you guessed it) NO. I explained it is the law, and promptly emailed her the document that stated as such. She continued to refuse to give me Rx, saying I was wearing old lenses way too long- to which I kept saying "but it is because you will not give me my Rx!!!" THEN....she said- "I am not giving it to you because I never performed a contact lens fitting on you. Only a regular eye exam." Which is total BS. I asked her- "Ok, then why did you bill my insurance for a contact lens exam?" Stunned silence. I said if you gave me the exam, then you are required by law to give me the Rx. And if you DIDN'T give me the exam, but billed my insurance for it, then you have committed INSURANCE FRAUD. She stammered and sputtered, and then said "I didn't do a contact lens exam." I said "but you billed my insurance for it." She said- "I was just doing what we usually do with that". I asked- "So it is common Lunette Optic practice to bill for exams you HAVEN'T performed?" She said... "YES!!!!!!" I almost fell on the floor! I said "So you are telling me YOU OFTEN COMMIT INSURANCE FRAUD THEN?!?!??!" She said- I am not talking to you anymore, talk to head Lunett doc, gave the head doc's name and hung up. I immediately called my insurance, who informed me that she had not only billed for reg. eye exam, but also CONTACT LENS EXAM and...wait for it... CONTACTS. She billed them as though she had sold me contacts!!!! HOLY SHIT. Then my insurance told me they were reinstating all my benefits, as if I never used them, and looking into this matter "separately" with Lunette. DO NOT GO THERE!! EVER!!!! read more

The only times I go and write reviews is when I have had an exceptional experience. I myself work as a retail manager and can appreciate great client service. For months I walked by this location at Market Street and fell in love with a pair of Prada glasses in the window. When I decided to purchase these glasses the sales associates were friendly, and got my frames and processed my order timely and I was so happy. I returned three months later due to a manufactures malfunction with my frame and this is where the store manager Kristin stepped in and made my experience even better. She did everything to rectify the issue making many phone calls to ensure I walked out of the store with a new pair of glasses. I remember thinking how easy, smooth, and pleasant the whole visit was. I can't say enough about Kristin and how client focused she was and I will definitely return to this location. It is a rare thing to have an entire store that is friendly and overly willing to help. I highly recommend this location. The store is also immaculate and you can tell they pride themselves on that:) Hope this helps anyone looking to visit! read more

This place may be new, but there is no excuse for how disorganized it is. I went in for a standard eye exam because it's closer to where I live than my normal eye doctor. I'm going to start with the one good thing about this place: the gentleman working the front desk was personable. The rest of my experience was enough to pull my hair out. My first appointment was scheduled for 10:30, but when I got there at 10:30 the door was shut and locked. I called confused and left a voicemail asking someone to call me back with an explanation. Turns out they opened late that day, but nobody called me to reschedule my appointment. Instead they insisted my appointment was for 11:30 (even though they had previously confirmed 10:30 and there was another woman outside when I showed up that also had a 10:30 appointment and was not contacted) They called me back and rescheduled my appointment for 3:30 that day. I got there for 3:30, and filled out all necessary paperwork, which was 3 pages and took quite some time. After that was done they advised me that they hadn't run my appointment through insurance yet (even though I called previously and provided all insurance info so we could avoid this issue, I work at a pharmacy and know how long it can take sometimes). This should have been done before I even got there, but they could have at least started working on it while I was filling out the necessary paperwork. After another 45 minutes or so of trying to run it through my insurance they insisted I wasn't contracted. I brought up my benefits online to show that I was indeed contracted. At that point they asked me to call my insurance company and confirm everything that I had already confirmed, again. At that point I was so frustrated the last thing I wanted to do was call my insurance company. So at the end of all of that I didn't even get to be seen. I will definitely be driving the extra distance to see my usual eye doctor. read more

Had an issue with my glasses and could not read signs at a distance of more than 25 feet. The staff proceeded to bend my frame, which I paid $900.00 for, back and forth at the bridge to correct. I questioned her about damaging my frames, and her reply was that she was a professional. The frames had a stress mark on them. I requested new frames. Lunette merely buffed the metal at the bridge of the nose. Now the frames are a different color at the bridge of the nose. They told me that they got new frames when they adjusted the prescription. They lied. Only the lenses were sent out. Will never purchase fro them again. read more
