From the initial consultation, the staff were friendly, patient and understanding of my nerves. On the day of my surgery, Dr. Giles was great and made me feel comfortable the entire time. The procedure took less than 20 minutes and was painless. After the procedure I experienced very little discomfort and after a few days, any discomfort I did have completely went away. I experienced dry eyes for the first week, but since then that has also gone away. Being able to see is the greatest gift and I am beyond grateful to TLC for giving me the gift of eyesight. If you are nervous to get LASIK, know that I was too, but wish I hadn't been so nervous because in the end I had such a positive experience.

Upon arrival for my appointment, they informed me that they are out of network for VSP. I mentioned that the person that scheduled my appointment assured me that they take VSP, they said then said that they do. They told me to pay for the appointment then and they would give me a receipt that could be submitted to VSP and VSP might reimburse some portion of the visit. Obviously, they are out of network and don't take VSP. What a waste of time. Not fun getting jerked around either...

He wrote a prescription without talking to me about astigmatism. I can't wear my glasses without getting dizzy. When checking out, the desk staff was pretty rude. Then I got a reminder to attend my follow up? For what? They automatically scheduled me for two appointments without checking my schedule or asking me to attend. It feels very paternalistic, doesn't feel like I was involved as a participant in my care. I didn't feel comfortable there and won't go back. Why should my insurance (or a patient) pay for appointments every three months if there's no ongoing treatment?

I prepped myself for this surgery by stumbling around my house blindfolded while asking "Could I live like this?" Even with that answer being a resounding "NO," I decided to finally take the plunge before my 40th birthday. In sum, so far it's one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I strongly regret not doing it a decade ago. The experience at Clear Advantage is streamlined and professional. You quickly feel like you are in great hands and that nothing can go wrong. From the front desk, to the initial assessments with the techs, everyone is extraordinarily friendly while also emanating an air of "chill out dude, we do this all the time." And really, that's all I needed to accept the frightening proposition of lasers slicing my eyes open. The surgery itself is quick and painless. Doctor Peters calmly explains the process, you're in the chair for maybe 10 minutes, and the laser is more fascinating than terrifying. I entered the operation legally blind. Immediately afterwards my vision was still blurry, but much clearer than before. After a 2 hour, Valium-induced nap, I awoke to 20/15 vision. I only had 20/20 with contact lenses. It was a revelation. You must avoid all tv/phone screens during the first day and are on a strict prescription and lubricated eyedrops routine for the next month. It's a nuisance, but easily worth it. I live nearly an hour from Clear Advantage and chose them after a recommendation from my local eye doctor. I strongly feel like they must be the best in the region. Doctor Peters and the entire staff make the process clear, casual and pain-free. It's been nearly 30 years since I've had vision like this without contacts/glasses. Don't make my mistake and rule out this operation from fear.

I was so impressed with the kindness and thoroughness of the process and staff. I initially wanted to get both eyes done but after reviewing one of my eyes they denied it due to some scarring from a previous ulcer. They noted that their practice is conservative with the patients they take and let's be honest, that is EXACTLY what you want when you're going to have a procedure affecting your eyesight. In terms of the procedure I definitely had some nerves but they truly put me at ease with explaining how quick and foolproof the technology is, if your eyes move, the laser moves. How cool? If anyone is on the fence about getting this procedure, I cannot stress enough how incredible Dr. Peters is as well as the whole staff at Clear Advantage. The 1-2 hours of discomfort after the numbing meds wore off is nothing compared to the feeling of waking up being able to see unassisted and without pain. I live a hour away and I am so happy I made the trek to Portsmouth to get this done. 10/10, do it.

Base on my personal experience from consultation to recovery:…read more Consultation appt was done in Milford closer to home. Location was great, staffs were really friendly, wait time can be long as it seemed that they were trying to fit in as many patients as possible. Dr Patel was pleasant and the assistants were all helpful and friendly. However, I felt rushed by my appointment. The following up email from the lasik team was always very efficient and helpful guidance to what to expect, videos of the procedure, the dos and don'ts for recovery and other additional information were sent out by email. The lasik team was able to answer questions via email. I felt a bit more at ease knowing what to expect from the surgery. A month before the surgery date, I was informed that my doctor won't be doing my surgery. I have had to reschedule my surgery. It was a bit unexpected since I have already taken those dates off from my workplace. Anyhow, I was able to get my surgery done a week before my original appointment. It was done by Dr Brenner instead. On Monday of my surgery week, I received my surgery time and more details by email. Parking can be a pain especially there isn't any designated parking lot for Boston Vision. Meters are everywhere so you can park on the street. Upon arrival, there was a bit of waiting time. Then more testings done. Met with Dr Brenner after one or two testings. They finalized and corrected something important in the contract regarding of my right eye being the distance eye and left eye to be the eye for reading since I was doing mono vision lasik. Dr Brenner was nice and easy to talk to. Answered a couple of my concerns and questions. From then on, they asked me to sit in the waiting area and to be called in for surgery. Then an assistant came back and ask me to re do one of the eye exams coz they didn't get the results or right readings. Went back to re do the test then I was being asked to sit in the lounge room to be called for the surgery. Snacks and water or drinks were provided. As I walked into the surgical room, lots of bright lights above me. I laid down on a flat bed and immediately the assistants put some numbing eye drops on my eyes. Everything kind of just went really fast. One after an other. My left eye definitely needed more numbing drops as I asked. So they went to my right eye and started there first. I could see the whole procedure. Tool to open my eye lids and kept them open. I think they said it took about 12 mins for both eyes. But the most traumatic experience I had was with the left eye, I could feel the pressure pressing against my eye, the blurred vision as they lifted up the flap, the smoking or burning smell of the lasik when I stared at the green dots or light, the tool they adjust the flap back on.... I could feel it all. But the right eye not so much, just the huge pressure and the blurry vision. After the procedure was over, I was guided to the other room, and out the waiting room already. I was given written instructions to follow up the day of, the day after to a week of what to avoid and what to do for recovery process. Eye drop medication to apply, Artificial tear drops, eye shields and protection sunglasses too all including in the take home kit. The first night was the hardest, no face wash and avoid water in the eyes. Slept with the eye shield and applied eye medication. I would recommend to stick with everything that they told you! It's been finally a week, my vision is still a bit blurry but 20/20 vision according to Dr Patel (from the one week follow up appt). Needs to be patient with the healing process. Overall, I am glad I did it despite the discomfort and inconvenience for a couple of weeks or months.

The receptionist is unbelievably nice and was able to answered all my concerning questions. And booked an appointment next day! Dr Grimm is gentle and took all the time we needed. He did not rush at all and a plus, he also gave my kid a quick eye exam (and happy to hear that her vision is still 20/20!). Polite, friendly staff really make a huge difference! The shop is conveniently located near the Wakefield commuter line (8 mins walk) and bus 137 is also nearby.
