They were loved by the community and their customer care was impeccable. Tommy could deal with anyone... even a few crabby dissatisfied customers but he was ALWAYS able to work with EVERYONE and he always took the high road. These reviews were well earned by HIM. The establishment was bought out by Christina and Enrico Palmerino several years ago now. They also own several other local Optical shops.. one is in Brooklyn New York. Since they took over in Newburyport the new business has received only 4 yelp reviews... 2 (5) star reviews and 2 (1) star reviews. Where I am from this is a significant red flag showing that this business needs improvement. It is also sad that Chrisina and Enrico did not wipe out Tommy's reviews because he and Dianne and several other employees worked very hard for those reviews! They should not be inherited they should be earned! My experience with the new owners has been rocky and unpleasant. The acting manager Clark Goodwin is a big part of the problem here at this business. Clark is moody, dismissive and he talks down to good customers. I returned 2 pairs of high end glasses three years ago and he was livid with me and he behaved unprofessionally towards me. Clark Goodwin sadly is the antithesis of what Tommy Collins was! I want to warn ALL of my disabled veteran friends , my healthcare friends ( retired RN here) and all the wonderful seniors in the area to take your business somewhere else. This company has no heart... they are a family of millionaires who could care less about customers and providing quality services to the residents of Newburyport. I really miss Tom Collins and his staff ... I just wish that Tom had screened the new owners more carefully. Buyer beware... this establishment is a greedy wolf in sheep's clothing. Do NOT trust Clark Goodwin with your money or your time. He should get out of the eye wear profession and maybe consider a new career in the Dept of Corrections. They have a fashion forward selection of frames, and the optical assistants will definitely help you to select a frame and offer advice on what looks best. (They wear a variety of fashionable frames themselves, which I think is a good sign!) They are also good at explaining certain technical details about what frames work and don't work for certain types of prescriptions. Also, I had a small problem with a lens in the glasses, and they were very helpful with troubleshooting it and correcting it. Note: Ocean Optical doesn't take VSP insurance, but I think they will help you to meet your price-point.

The lighting and modern feel to the place was different from what I am use to, but Laird the owner put me a easy and worked with me to find a pair of glasses that would fit my face and my price range. He was never pushy, but gave honest feedback on how various sunglasses looked on my face. The range and quality of the glasses is wonderful. Although I only bought sunglasses I know I will be back for when I need new glasses. What sold me over all was that he backup is work. Any time I have a problem I can go back and he'll fix them. The place is not cheap, but the overall quality and attentiveness makes shopping there worth while.

Sometimes they said they were closed and would get back to me (they didn't) sometimes these were times that were posted as open online. Other times it said they were with a patient and would get back to me they didn't There hours seem to be whatever they feel like . This week they were closed Monday open Tueday 2 to 6 closed Wed and Thursday Friday 2 to 6 and today Saturday they opened at 3:30 and now it's 4:46 and online says closing soon open Tuesday at 2 pm . Finally I've had to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission , the consumer division of the Mass Attorney General's office , and the customer service of my insurance company . I'm not exaggerating when I say this is my worst experience with a business

I tend to make and keep track of all medical appointments in our house. However, my husband is very hard on glasses. A few years ago he made his own appointment with a different eye doctor and purchased glasses that "looked similar" to what we had bought from David. The glasses didn't even make it a year. Eye Appeal has always been good about fixing his glasses. This company just looked at them and said "he'll need new ones. I took them home and bent the nose guard back into place. The little rubber piece was missing but he could wear them. I have now scheduled him an appointment for Eye Appeal as those glasses are now in two pieces and he's due for an eye exam.
