I am a Tiburon native and in many my years of dining in the Bay Area I can honestly say this was one of the best dining experiences I have had in my life, anywhere, and one of the best Italian dining experiences I have had in a category with actual great restaurants in Italy. What makes this restaurant so special? Not only can you sit outside directly overlooking the San Francisco Bay, the Tiburon harbor and the city itself, nicely sheltered by a new and perfectly constructed awning, but the food is beyond delightful. Flavor and creativity, variety in the menu and normal reasonable pricing make this a restaurant not to be missed. I ordered the sole crusted with almonds and my gosh I have never tasted a fish so delectable - it was like a pastry, it was a new flavor and perfect. My friend ordered a wonderful butternut squash soup and a salad with figs so original he and I couldn't stop making happy, excited sounds as we ate. The owner of the restaurant is planning a breakfast restaurant too where the old Mexican place was on Ark Row. My only request, if they read this review, is to include eggs Benedict on grilled cornbread (my favorite)! So, friends, make a reservation at this little Italian oasis as soon as possible! read more

We wanted to like this restaurant, the interior decor and deck are very casual and comfortable. The staff seemed friendly. The food was horrible. We had hiked into Tiburon and were really hungry. My friend ordered a caesar salad with chicken, and asked if there was another dressing they could use, as the caesar dressing is usually too heavy and garlicky. The romaine lettuce looked as if it came out of a plastic bag from Safeway, and it was very bland and uninteresting to look at. The chicken was overcooked and dry. The worst part was the dressing which we couldnt quite identify, and later the waitress confirmed that it had melted butter in it....ok, a salad with melted butter? Ugh, inedible. My dish was an appetizer portion of tuna tartare. It could have been ok, but the home made potatoe chips which one is to use to scoop the tartare were old, not fresh, not crispy, bland and chewy. The Tartare itself tasted ok, nothing great. My friend and I complained about her dish, and she did not eat much except a little lettuce. Then the hostess came and apologized and showed us a butter patty, trying to excuse the use of butter I guess. We fully expected the check would reflect the aweful salad, and there would be no charge. It was crazy that they charged us. Very poor customer relations. We have both lived in Marin for 30 plus years and dine out often with husbands and friends. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I want to start by saying we didn't eat here so I cannot comment on the food. It seemed delightfully charming. However, they really are tiny. Because we saw that in the reviews we booked a patio table a day in advance and brought jackets just in case they didn't keep it quite warm enough for us. They had reserved a very tiny table for us (really the size of a cocktail table for two) and there were three of us on the reservation. We toyed with trying to make it work, but we were treating someone to dinner after a special afternoon event -and it was just way too small and uncomfortable. They could not give us a bigger table. I have to say that I'm a bit peeved when restaurants try to use a "european" vibe to excuse away some common sense items like a table that three people can actually sit at. I've been to Europe many times and never been asked to squish three folks into a table like the one we got. That said, based on all the other reviews - I'd say give it a try. It's a sweet setting, the food looked good and the patio was warm enough. Just make clear what you need to be comfortable and see if they can provide it. read more

We went for lunch on a busy Sunday. New decor is nice. Waiters were a bit clumsy and forgot a few things. Linguini with clams too heavy with butter, lobster ravioli could give you a heart attack. Calamari was a bit undercooked. Pasta was fresh and homemade. I hope they can "lighten" things up a bit, and work out the kinks in the service. Nice atmosphere. Unfortunately we had a waiter that acted as if he didn't want to be there. It took too long for him to come to our table at first. Then he didn't even look us in the eyes when we were asking him questions or while giving him our orders. And quite honestly, all the other waiters seemed really good. I just got served up this guy. My husband said the linguini with white clam sauce was very good. We had the appetizer of the fresh burrata cheese on a crostini with truffle oil. That was very good. My vegetable soup was awful. It literally tasted like water with carrots and celery. Also, it seemed as if the hostess/owner had her local favorites and schmoozed up to them; when we were totally new to the place wouldn't you come up to us and see how are meal is going? The waiter really just ruined it for us. He acted as if we were an inconvenience and so were our questions about the menu. Why be in the customer service business then? Also, he had a very thick accent so besides not giving us eye contact he was very hard to understand. You don't have to know a lick of English but memorize the menu for God's sake. read more

In addition to great Sicilian seafood, this restaurant offers delicious and authentic afternoon English tea, a nod to the co-owner, Crystal, who is British. You need to call and make reservations ahead of time for them to prepare it for you. Comes complete with a 3-tier tower consisting of an assortment of tea sandwiches, home made scones with jam and clotted cream, and fresh fruit squeezers. A great selection of caffeinated and herbal teas in individual pots rounds it out. You can make a whole meal of it. We invited a friend to join us and sat at a table right at the entrance. The beautiful display, English china, and gorgeous table top flowers made everyone who came in wish they were having tea with us! read more

Luna Blu is wonderful family run restaurant. We have been eating here since it opened and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent and the food always fantastic. The most romantic place ever!!!!! Full bar & outstanding wine selection. Been there at least 3 X. The owners are the cutest multinational married couple: The hostess is from Great Britain and always welcomes you with kindness and smiles, while her Executive Chef husband is from Sicily and can be found in the aromatic kitchen. Before I go into how fantastic the food is, you should know it will never be just a meal here! From the tables you see beautiful lights from docked vessels, like you're eating next to them. That made the candlelit dinners with my hubby all the more romantic. Collectively we've enjoyed; Insalate: 'Salmone' and 'Gamberetti'----Outstanding!!! Panini: 'con Granchio'-for me, and 'Portobello' and 'Prosciutto & Mozzarella'- for my vegetarian hubby, have always satisfied. The Minestrone and Zuppe Di'lentiche soups...Amazing! They serve traditional Sicilian dishes with multiple courses. I fell in love with multiple le salade dishes. The crabcakes and the Cioppino are also to die for!!! Hubby loves the daily croissants and evolving vegi pasta dishes. We aren't big dessert eaters, but what I saw looked yummy. They have a ways to go before they can command consistent customer loyalty. The service was remarkably (and annoyingly) slow--and they were less than 50% capacity--the waiter was clueless about the wine, which reflected an unsophisticated attitude towards wine, and the food, while good, was not distinguished. (On a micro note, I never like the little packages of butter. Where is the olive oil?) The hours schedule on the cover of the menu is confusing and needs some prompt editing. This is clearly a work in progress. The ambience is nice and the place comfortable, and as Tiburon resident, I want them to turn the corner and succeed. Tiny kitchen couldn't keep up even though not a full house. We waited for over 40 minutes between the salad and the entree. When the entrees came the "trout" looked and tasted very much like salmon. At least it was cooked properly. Very nice patio over the water. read more

I am flummoxed. I have never seen more positive reviews for any restaurant, yet our experience was so negative. We had no quarrel with the service, in fact when I squawked about my lunch, the waitress immediately said she would take it off our bill, which was nice. However I was surprised that she didn't acknowledge how really unacceptable my food was. Yes, the deck is nice, but on a cold day, the place is kinda cramped and stuffy inside. They charged $17 for a ceasar salad made of lettuce cut with a knife into tiny pieces, virtually no dressing, and that is all that was on the plate. The pasta that my friend ordered was also undistinguished. We had an appetizer and two coffees for lunch and the bill was $47 (that's with just one entre). I'm amazed that so many reviewers raved about this place, because our experience was so different. read more

So on my anniversary we went to Muir beach and on into Tiburon . We looked up restaurants in the area with good reviews as we hadn't been here before. It was a Saturday night very early. Upon entering we stated that we had no reservation but they said we could eat out back as long as we do it in one hour? How long does it take to prepare the food my wife asks? So we order and have a nice salad appetizer, pay for some bread and out comes the fish . My bass was ok but my wife's halibut is so over cooked it is shattering as she puts a fork to it. Dry and hard fish! As the waiter comes back how is the fish tasting he asks and she informs him of the fish. Now the dilemma starts . He takes the fish back to the cooks. Now he explains we are running out of time so we can either move somewhere else or ? We're ok with going to another restaurant and pay fo my dinner. It is now our problem they burnt the fish ! After some discussing they say we can stay put and they will recook the halibut. Ten minutes later he comes back with a fish cooked like it should have been the first try. Clock ticking and they say no rush but we feel rushed I can't wait to get out of here and will NEVER come back . Nobody was waiting to come in out in the front , no pressure for tables as it was generally slow in the whole Main Street Area . So I learned don't always trust Yelp ratings . Rushed dinner no desert and bad overall experience. Staff needs upgrade in my opinion . Two stars because of nice view of the boats and the City. read more

My husband took me to Tiburon for two nights to celebrate my birthday - we had my birthday dinner at Luna Blu and thoroughly enjoyed it! We chose Luna Blu based on the Yelp reviews that we read and we were very happy with our choice. The place is small and quaint and my only criticism would be that the tables outside on the deck are so close together that it makes it difficult to get in and out. Our service was perfect, the waiter was very personable and informative without hovering and he met our every need. We started with the Fried Calamari and Zuchinni appetizer which was served with a hot marinara sauce. It was done perfectly and we loved it. I chose the Tortelloni with short rib meat as my entree and my husband had the Mezzalune ravioli with spinach and ricotta. We shared a side of the roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta. All of the dishes were well-prepared and delicious! It was the perfect amount of food for the two of us. We chose not to have dessert but the ones we saw on other tables looked delicious. This was a lovely place to celebrate my birthday - small enough to be romantic and special with very good Italian food that made the night perfect! read more

We had a fabulous meal here over the weekend. We started out inside, which is intimate and comfortable, and ended up on the patio, after me drooling over how nice it looked. We had a great time talking with Crystal, who is a very warm and helpful owner. She shows pride in her restaurant and the results of her hard work are a beautiful place with delicious food, good for a romantic meal or a family get-together. We will definitely be back! We celebrated my mom's 80th birthday at the restaurant. The owners went beyond imaginable to accommodate all our requests, to set all beautifully for the party of 10 and even put up a birthday banner which was a total surprise. They made an absolutely delicious desert that we did not expect, which my family continues to rave about. The food was excellent. This is our new favorite restaurant. Cute place and decent food, just not over the top amazing like most of the reviews make it out to be. Our waiter forgot to bring our water after we asked and then we had to ask again after our appetizers came out. He acted as if it was our first time asking. I had the cioppino which was good, but unfortunately my wife's chicken with asparagus was totally over cooked and really dry. My side (the garlic spinach was good) but again her Brussels sprouts were really dry with no flavor. Location is pretty cool if you sit outside but we walked away less than excited about the overall experience. read more

We took our French foodie cousins to dinner at Luna Blu on a rainy stormy night and they were blown away by the superb food, service and ambience. The reviews are right on about Luna Blu--it is a wonderful experience on all counts. We were warmly greeted at the door and shown to our table where our waiter expertly explained the menu. What I appreciated was the genuine desire to please. Being unfamiliar with the menu, we had many questions which he patiently answered without a hint of attitude. He was able to make a plate of pasta appear almost instantly which kept our 2 1/2 year old guest occupied through most of dinner. Our selections included crab bisque, burrata, eggplant, linguine vongole and steak, all of which were uniformly superb. We can't wait to go back! read more

Walking in, the hostess was extremely nice, and we were tended too quickly. The calamari as a starter was breaded perfectly, but the sauce didn't have the spice that was described on the menu. Still very good. The Caesar salad was a typical salad, but they romaine lettuce was very crunchy, which was nice. My family seemed to enjoy their pastas as an entree and the linguine with clams was great in taste, but the portions were a little small. There was an unfortunately large number of sand grains in the clams so chew slowly if you do order it. The restaurant's look was very nice though and it had a beautiful view of downtown SF, and the service was great. I would recommend if you are looking for good Italian food with a nice atmosphere. read more

I hate to leave this review - but we had a really bad dinner here. The high point was the owner. She is so sweet and comped the meals we did not eat - but it was truly bad. Except the salads - The star one for them and the other for the owner. My advice would be to simplify the menu - that little kitchen and the staff are going crazy trying to get the food out...ask you can see when you go to the restroom. This place was great when it first opened... I hope it gets better again! read more

We had a great experience at Luna Blu. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The Risotto came fully wrapped in prosciutto and was full of shrimp. The burrata appetizer was rich and so good. Service was personal, attentive and friendly. We sat outside on a day that was bit chilly but it was comfortable and great views. Really enjoyed it. My sea bass was very flavorful (though a little on the cool side when served) and my wife's cioppino was excellent. Make sure you eat out on the back patio as the view of SF is awesome! We had a great server in Elvin and also had a chance to meet the chef and his wife.
