Today was a day for selfcare and so I thought I would visit the nail shop that is a mile from my home. I called first to see if they took walk-in clients and the website also says that they do. To my surprise when I walked in, I was not greeted warmly. So I stood and waited and the nail tech finally said can I help you? I said yes do you take walkins. I was told no. Quick reminder: I called first and checked the website. So I quickly picked up that my melanated presence was not welcomed in the establishment. However, I continued to ask questions. I asked how do you go about making an appointment. Silence ensued. So I asked and said do I need to visit the website, is there a form I need to complete? I was told to call at least 1 1/2 weeks in advance. I wasn't told goodbye, I wasn't told see you later, just given a look of disgust. I will spend my money elsewhere. read more

They were able to get me in the same day, and I didn't feel rushed at all, like you typically would at a lot of nail salons I've been to. The tech gave a great massage, and was very thorough and sanitary, as well as preforming a great mani and pedi! Additional Covid protocols made me feel safe, temperature checks, socially distanced, and divider between client and technicians. Very nice nail salon with lots of options. We all opted for a Mani-Pedi which the salon staff were able to accommodate us for this. Since the salon is very busy I highly recommend making reservations if possible. We were lucky to get an especially with four of us. We just happen to catch them on a day where they were not busy. But seeing how wonderful their Service is. Definitely make reservations. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the finished product for all of us. I opted for French manicure, One got pink, another one got white and black, and the last one got designs which included blue yellow and green. We didn't have a good experience here. Took my 12-year-old for gel manicures before vacation. We were told that they didn't have time (we didn't have an appointment, so that's fair), then we were told that they would take us. My daughter got sat at one station, I was at another. One tech started filing off my old polish, got partway through one nail, and got up and walked away. Then I was told by an employee to get up and move to another station. ??? I did move, was seated with another tech, and she wrapped my nails to soak off the polish. She rushed through my manicure, nicked cuticles on both hands badly enough that they were bleeding freely, and basically slapped two coats of polish on. Polish looked rough and uneven, ridges, smudges, are visible on all ten nails. Less than two weeks later, polish is chipping off and two nails have broken. My daughter agreed that the tech was rough with her and her polish looks bad as well. All staff were much too busy socializing with customers waiting to spend much time on our manicures. We would have been fine with making an appointment and coming back if I'd known how much they'd rush through our manicures and how little quality they'd put into the process. As it is, I'm paying someone else to fix both manicures. Very disappointed. read more

Got a shellac mani done this week. Called in the morning for an afternoon appointment. Got in at lunchtime. I was in and out within 40 minutes. They did a wonderful job. Really took care of my cuticles well! Shellac has been on for a few days now with no issues. Very impressed with this salon. I will definitely return. The shellac mani was only $28. This is my third time coming to Luminous Nails. And the first 4 times I had a wonderful experience. I'd never had their pedicures, but I knew my sister wanted one, so I recommended her to there. I also my self went and got some Acrylics (which they insist is gel, but its obviously monomer and powder). So to start off, the place itself was super packed, even though I had originally made an appointment. Im used to waiting a little time, as I know staff is kind of tight. Right as me and my sister walked in the door. We were shouted at, by the owner (Don?) Which was more than rude. But I understood that he was busy, so decided to ignore it. My sister got her pedicure started right away. And then I personally waited a bit more. He was constantly bombarded by phone calls, and he took each one, and proceeded to have conversations with other customers he's known longer. Which once again was fine. When it came time for him to put the acrylic on, he did it quick and with ease. And just a bit too quickly, that the acrylic is bumpy on one side, on my right thumb nail, and uneven on the pointer finger, and some nails are less thicker than others (but not horribly so, but enough to be pissed about it). He also, did not file done the nail bed area where he did a sloppy job with the gel. There are also bubbles in the gel nails because none of the people that work there. I had to go home a reshape some nails, and file out my nail bed more. Like seriously? Just do better. It's not hard to say no to extra business. read more

We've been here twice to get a manicure and then a pedicure on a different days. We had great service both times. It's run by a really lovely family and I like the small neighborhood feel. For pedicures, they have a kids chair that is perfect for my 4 year old. Kim did a great job with her and even gave her little flowers on her big toes which she obviously loved! When my daughter was finished and I was only half done, my daughter was then entertained by the owners very sweet daughters! It was nice not to have to worry if she was getting bored. It's just a mile from my house which makes it super convenient and doesn't feel like I have to go "into town". And it was pretty quiet when we came in which helped make it more relaxing. The quality of the manicure and pedicure were both great, this for sure will be our go to spot! read more

I went for my 1st pedicure since the Covid and felt very safe. Everything was very clean and sanitized, they check your temp when you come in, have lots of sanitizer, and plexiglass between you and your nail tech. Safety aside, this is my go-to place for manicures and pedicures. I love Kim and Eric, they do an exceptional job with everything. 10/10 recommend! read more

So sad about results because the tech and his family were all very nice. I went in for a dip removal and basic manicure. The dip was not fully removed from my mail before the tech started the manicure. He broke my nails while filing and didn't fix them. The paint was applied a little sloppy and didn't fully cover the tips of the nails or the sides depending on the finger. read more

I am so glad I randomly stopped at Luminous Nails last week. I was on my way home from a very stressful day and decided I needed to get a pedicure to do something for myself. Luminous Nails is located in a small plaza across from Wedel's Garden Center in Portage. From the look of the inside, it is a fairly new salon. The interior was clean and very fresh looking. They had workstations set up for nails and 8 chairs for pedicures, plus a cute one for little girls. I had just a short wait before someone was available to do my pedicure. Kim was very nice and had did a great job on the whole process. I felt so relaxed when I left. I made an appointment to have a dip manicure, plus one acrylic tip removed. It took from start to finish about an hour but they did a great job (and really the time and effort it took to remove is why I'd rather not ever get a dip manicure again). I didn't want any color after my nails were cleaned and trimmed up. They gave me a strengthening and clear coat before sending me on my way. Great service, nice people. Took every possible precaution for COVID. Definitely be back again! One thing: make sure you have cash for tips. read more

Moved from GR and have been on the hunt for a good nail salon. I've tried almost every one in this town and was disappointed in all of them. Gel nails are always peeling, chips & discoloration within a week. It was bad enough the price is higher here but the quality was awful. I finally tried Luminous and will be a loyal customer. I'm on week three and have to get them done due to grow out. The owner and staff is friendly, they know their customers by first name, the place is clean and they have the cutest children's chair in the world. Kudos to you! read more
