Returned from Italy with my acrylic nails needing to be cleaned up as they had grown out. Walked in at 6 p.m. with no appointment and place was empty yet they are open until 7. I was obviously not a regular customer and they asked how they could help. They said they are only by appointment now, (Covid pandemic change) but had no appointment so they would help. Husband did manicure. Wife sat to the side. Had a great conversation and learned as many children of business owners "I'm never going to work there!", he graduated from a local HS, received his engineering degree intending to go into the auto industry but graduated during the 2008 recession to no available jobs. Family offered him to join business "Meet lots of cute girls.", they said. So he did and while going from auto engineering to nail salon, and his former classmates making fun, he had the upper hand, making more money than their unemployment check. So, he won in the end! I went here to get my nails done for spring break. I'm a college student and moneys a little tight, but I figured that I would treat myself. I paid $55 for tips and dip. At first, they looked decent - a little flawed in some areas - but I figured overall they were okay. A week later, I noticed that they were cracking and coming up on the ends. A few days after I noticed this, one fell off as a opened my car door. I went in and they fixed it for free, but a few days later another one came off. Nice people, but do not go here if you want your nails to stay on for more than a week and a half. read more

UPDATE: New full set started lifting after only 3 weeks!!! Had to go buy nail glue... Not even time for a fill yet! Been here twice. Each time I felt that their prices were too high. $27 for a regular pedicure with color and $50 for a full set with gel, not shellac... When I was puzzled about why my full set cost so much I was given some long explanation about the gel powder and the shellac... Very confusing.. If a full set gel is $30 where is the extra $20 coming from? There are bubbles in my gel polish.. Definitely not worth $50. I gave them another chance and still not satisfied. Located in the same plaza as the SOS, right across from Bilbo's. We did a walk-in and only had to wait a couple of minutes on a Tuesday afternoon. There was a good selection of nail colors in the back, and I also like that there was swatches for each color so you can test on your nail before committing. An was very nice and did one of the best pedicures I had. She was gentle yet effective and made sure to check in frequently. I'm not a huge fan of small chatter so I appreciated that she didn't force a lot of conversion. I also opted for a gel manicure, and again it was done very well. It was $50 for both services. Gave four stars instead of five only due to the fact there were several walk-ins whom needed to wait longer than we did due to lack of staff. Nice casual and clean place! read more

Been here several times for pedicures, and they have always done a great job. It is a very clean spa, which is nice. They have so many gel colors that it often takes a while for me to decide. I usually get one of the owners, but today, I had a new technician. She was very nice, my feet feel awesome, & look the same. The price is on par for with other local nail spas. Note, they are often busy because they do such a nice job. If you don't have a while to sit & wait, make an appt & don't be late. Or if you are late, accept it is your fault and you will have to wait with other walk ins. I love their late policy...it gets me in faster when I forget to make an appt. haha read more

Doan and An always do a beautiful job on my nails, plus they're just really awesome and nice people. They're running a great business with this shop--friendly and excellent customer service. This is my mom's go-to nail salon, and whenever I'm in town, I go too. I appreciate that they always take such good care of my mom there! Seriously, the manicures are always flawless and when I get gel, it lasts for a really long time without lifting. The salon is always very clean, they have a great selection of colors, and good prices. Def call and make an appointment--it's usually just the two of them holding down the fort, so if you don't get on the schedule in advance, you probably will have a long wait. read more

I absolutely adore this place. The couple who own it are very nice and understanding. My first appointment I was 20 minutes late and they took me anyway. An did an amazing job on my nails and toes. I got a fill and a pedicure with designs on both and I was done in an hour and a half. The second time I went was today and she surprised me again with her nail art and attention to detail. The price is perfect for the service they provide and I LOVE the fact that they use gel powder as well. They don't have a ton of colors for gel powder so if you would like a specific color, I would suggest bringing your own or using the million shellac colors they have there instead. I would say absolutely make your appointment a few days in advance in you need to be seen on a weekend. They are super busy and it is just the two of them there right now. read more

Tried to get a walk in appointment today but was unable to. Which is totally understandable when there are aren't enough openings and is not really the issue. Walked in trying to get three people in for a pedicure and seeing a near empty nail salon, and getting a short reply of "no only one" is disappointing customer service. We were more than willing to wait or come back later. This was not even offered. We did how ever go to Le family nail and spa across the street... They were very busy but still managed to provide good customer service and offer us the option to wait comfortably. read more

I had a great experience here the other day after deciding to go in 2018 with a nice set of gels. I'd had some bad luck with another nail salon in town and Phoenix nails had been recommended by a friend. I wasn't disappointed. The facility is clean and well cared for. I went on a Thursday morning around 10 and got right in. They have a huge selection of colors to choose from. My manicurist was very friendly, conversational, and she was patient with me when I couldn't make up my mind on what color I wanted to ring in the new year. My only issue is that she seemed a bit new and so it took a little longer than expected and my nail polish wasn't quite as tidy on a finger or two. Those issues are nitpicky though, so I would happily return! read more

Went here to "treat" myself & was disappointed. I wanted stiletto nails that weren't extremely pointy (because not all stilletto shaped nails are alike some appear razor sharp at the tip) but more of a soft point. Walked out with nails that were more of an almond shape and several nails aren't even shaped like the others. I felt like I have wasted my $28 and should have just did them myself at home. read more

I really liked this place but I had an appointment at 10 AM and I was late by 10 minutes, which is my fault I understand, totally misjudged how long it'd take to get there with the roads. But I walked in, said sorry I was late and was going to wait for them to finish the 2 people they were working on. They had a sign that said they now have a policy that if you're late by 5 minutes that your appointment is void. They didn't inform me of this policy when I called to make the appointment or else I would have called to say I was going to be late. They then asked if I could come back at 12, which I couldn't and this was the only time I had for the rest of the week. Instead of working with me, they just said "we have other appointments" then looked away from me and I just walked out then since they didn't seem to want to work something out with me. In the past, even if I was a little late, they just let me wait until they finished their current clients but never have I just been kicked off their list entirely. I recognize it was my fault that I was late, I just didn't appreciate their lack of care with wanting to work with me to see if I could still get in. read more

But I gave them a 4 star because they are super clean and very well lit. They have an amazing selection of polish to chose from. I had gone to Phoenix a few times and was disappointed about a couple things. One time I asked for my toe nails to be cut and the young man just clipped straight across with no filing to smooth the edges. Also, the "cheese grater" method of removing dead/dry foot skin is rather rough and the LAST time I went, he actually CUT my foot while "grating it" very roughly. I went back and told him about my bloody foot, and that I would not be back again. The ladies that work there do a better job. read more

Straight up, they're racist. While I was getting my nails done a group of young black girls came in to get a nail fixed since it broke the day after she got them done there. Her friends wanted to get pedicures while they were there, too, but they were told that there was no room at all for them today. They were so unbelievably rude to these girls, it was terrible. They reluctantly fixed the girl's nail but would not allow her friend to sit in the empty chair next to her because it was "for paying customers only." The salon was empty and there's no reason why the girls wouldn't sit next to each other. More so than that, multiple white women walked in and the staff was more than willing to fit them in even though the black girls, who were told that there was no time at all for them, were literally still there in the salon. Don't give them your business, go to Nail Care instead. They do a much better job and aren't assholes! read more

Hi Doan, thanks for your reply. I was satisfied to get my nail polished the next day and polish change on my toes to match my nails and not walk around with what I had. However, I was still charged the design fee even though it was evident it was not done correctly. The design was replaced with simple polish. Also, if there was no time for my design I would have rather been told that instead of rushing and getting unsatisfactory results. There were many ways to have remedied the situation, as I stated in my review beginning with an apology for my wait and an offer to simply come back and redo. Also, I was not late for my appointment, so it was therefore not VOID but I still waited long but patiently. If tardiness were the case, why wasn't I informed of that? So, that was not the problem. Maybe it is a problem to " try and fit people in". The fact you would write a long statement attempting to justify the poor service I received, with excuses of closing time, changing my mind (which was also not the case) and not arriving on time, let me know I made the right choice in finding a new manicurist. I should be given the amount of time to get what I want done; I walked in with the picture of what I wanted. Not only did I return trying to give a chance for redemption, but also paid in full with tip. So yeah, I did return the next morning so I could get my nail fixed and that will be the last time I ever return for any service from your salon. read more

The quality of work in this salon has gone down hill rapidly. The girl that used to do my nails is no longer there. A couple of weeks ago, the owners wife did my nails. I tried several time to make her understand I wanted them to look "natural". She put so much acrylic on my fingers that the ends looked deformed. After two weeks, I removed the polish and reshaped them myself. A week later I went for a fill-in and this time the husband did my nails. I've been visiting Phoenix Nails since September and it has been hands down the best nail salon in Kalamazoo! I've done shellac, acrylic nails, dip powder, and I've never been disappointed with the job done. The owners, Doan and Ann, are amazing and mostly the only two that work daily. Therefore, it's necessary to call in the morning and make an appointment. Many people become upset because they are unable to get serviced upon walking in. I've never had a problem getting an appointment at the day and time I want it as long as I call. My nails have never come out crappy, have lasted as long as expected, and the prices are extremely competitive. Do yourself a favor and make this your nail salon!! You will never be disappointed !! Now that I have moved away from Kalamazoo, I have extremely high expectations for wherever my new place will be. I will always miss Phoenix Nails and will for sure be visiting next time I'm in town!! I went here today for the second time.... the first time which was done by a young women my nails were wonderful they were absolutely BEAUTIFUL I couldn't have ask for a better job... but this time they were done by the only man in the shop and I'm extremely disappointed my middle nail is SHORTER then ALL the rest of my nails also I ask and paid for a specific shape AND my nail looks NOTHING like the shape I paid EXTRA for...uuugggghhh im sooo upset I guess this is what happens when you step out on your usual designer....
