Not sure of the name of the young man who gave me my pedicure, but did not speak or understand English. I requested before he even started NOT to clip my big toenails as I've had multiple ingrown nails, please just file. He proceeded to clip the corners of my left toe, and after asking him 2 or 4 more times to not do this, he acknowledged and then did the same on my right toe. Never assumed he just didn't get it. So now I'm battling the same ingrown problem again, as the short edges start to grow out. Never again will I come again to this salon. I should have walked out before he could do any more damage, but wanted to give him a chance. read more

Star Nails & Spa - Corners clipped off! - Nail Salons Near Me - Kalamazoo, Michigan

I went to Star Nails once for a pedicure and had a good experience so I decided to go on 7/5 for a pedicure and full set (acrylic) they had a pretty long wait time but everyone was working and they were busy so I was trying to be patient. My pedicure was rushed and I did not get square cut like I asked. My nails looked ok so I paid and left. Once I got home and really looked, I was disappointed with the shape and look of my nails. It is now 7/7 and my thumb nail is lifted underneath and I have a bunch of hardened acrylic under my nails on both hands. I was there for over three hours and did not receive satisfactory service. So I went in today (7/7) and politely asked for a refund. They insisted on fixing my nails and I said did not want them to fix it. That I did not have a good experience and would prefer to just have a refund. They refused. When I asked why I could not get a refund they said they don't do that. There is no sign up that says no refund. They could see and agreed that my nails were not looking good but still refused a refund. So I left. read more

Nice and clean salon. Friendly service and a variety of nail colors and styles to select from. I always request a specific style or design based on a Pinterest image and the staff are always happy to fulfill my request. I have been coming here for over a year now and have no complaints. I never schedule an appointment and just drop in during the day and have never had to wait too long for service. I highly recommend this salon. read more

The staff is semi-friendly, just depends on who you get. I used to go regularly (bi-weekly) for months and never had an issue! Obviously there will be the ones that break a little too easily or one starts to lift early, but other than that I've always been satisfied! Not to mention they're cheaper than some other salons and the work is most often better! In my option this is a very dependable nail salon! read more

Star Nails & Spa - Not super talkative staff but did great work! - Nail Salons Near Me - Kalamazoo, Michigan

The lady that did my nails was extremely rude. Not only did she mess up my nails. I stopped her before she got to the designs and I paid and just left. I was so upset. Not only did she ruin my full set but she burned my foot and laughed about it when she told me to go sit down for my pedicure. Then continued gaslighting me and saying that it was my fault. I told her that it would have been nice for her to say something about the water being scorching hot before I sat down and put my foot in after she told me to! She was so rude and I didn't even bother arguing. I paid the $108 for the crappiest service I've ever experienced at a nail salon. Then the other nail lady at the salon tried to justify her actions by saying "oh she doesn't speak much English"... um? She spoke enough English to tell me it was my fault I burnt my foot and that I should have known it was boiling hot! Don't go here. This place is an absolute joke and disgusting. Go to Paris nails. They took me in and fixed my nails. I'm going to post the inspo picture that I showed the salon and what they did. Then I'll post my after, when I got it fixed by Paris nail salon. read more

I have been here multiple times and it's either ok or horrible. My recent experience was terrible. I walked in and even though they were just opening had to wait 20 min for a pedicure. The pedicure was std issue , but after realized my nails were uneven , paint job was unacceptable and my toes that I specifically called out to please remove ingrown , still hurt after. read more

Always perfect, when I am in town, this is my go to for gel manicure and pedicure. Wendy, Steve and staff ate great!

Wendy the owner, is absolutely awesome! Every customers entering into the salon is greeted with kindness, respect and courtesy. She suggests different polish color choices and listens to what nail shape and length you want. I'm so appreciative of her work, I can't say thank you enough. read more

DON'T GO HERE! We walked in and should have walked right back out. The girl that did my nails was rude, and she messed my nails up. Very disappointed and I will not be going back. read more

this is the actual worst nail place I've ever been to. They had no idea what they were doing and it hurt so bad to the point I almost cried. I told her it hurt and she proceeded to do exactly what she was just doing. Not only this but I left with the worst nails I've ever gotten. I got a fill and it's so bumpy and uneven I'm shocked she let me leave like that. read more

Star Nails & Spa - So bumpy and uneven and this is after everything was finished. Terrible! - Nail Salons Near Me - Kalamazoo, Michigan

They do not honor appointments. I tried this establishment back in June for a mani-pedi for my birthday, and I had made an appointment ahead of time. Unfortunately I was not started until roughly 20-30 minutes after my original appointment time, and when moved to start soaking for my pedi, was left soaking for another probably 10ish minutes. I gave myself ample time to enjoy myself because I had another appointment following this, but it turned into a 50 minute (for mani AND pedi) rushed event, leaving me more stressed than relaxed. They didn't do a bad job with the nails themselves, but the experience wasn't great. It was busy back then with re-opening, so that's why this week, I tried them out again as I'm trying to find a new consistent place. Folks, I was not helped until 30 minutes past my appointment time, leaving me in the same predicament as above. I am not 100% sure on this, because they did not communicate at all, but either they overbooked or took a walk-in before my scheduled appointment. I really needed my nails done, so I stuck it out. When I told them I needed a mani done in 45 minutes because of this issue, I was given a half-apology and an excuse of being low on nail techs. I would've been way more understanding if this info was given to me when I walked in. Maybe this is a good thing, but they did start being more communicative with people who walked in after me. However, they offered no discount or anything. I was disappointed, again. I gave this review 2 stars because the mani itself wasn't done super bad with it having to be rushed; there are a couple nit picky things like some nail length being uneven and the colors being slightly off due to powder. But it's safe to say I will not be returning. I wish I had listened to the other reviews before deciding to try it out again. read more

They always do a great job. Things are clean and my nails last a long time. Love Steve and his entire crew!

I really enjoy coming to Star Nails, I always go to Wendy to get my dip done and they look fantastic. Another young lad Freeman, is always there to put a smile on my face when I get my pedicure done! read more

The one thing that will always stand out to me is that one of the female technicians tried to bounce me from her chair during a full set to take one of her usual's. She had put the nails on and clipped them somewhat to my liking then told me to move to another station and wait for the other technician to be done with someone else. I could not believe it! Her usual customer was like no, I'll go get a tan first and come back, you can finish up. If her customer wasn't so observant and polite, I think I would have walked out without even paying for my pedicure. YOU DO NOT DO THAT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. I was so frustrated with her that I didn't even want to look at her face. I almost wanted to cry even. I've been through a lot with my father recently dying and was just trying to relax and take care of myself. I've been here a few times before and had a good experience. Especially with the male technician. However, I will NEVER go back her because of how I was treated. PS: I think nail salons in Kalamazoo can be a little racist sometimes or more willing to take money from white women over women of color (It's all green honey and I'm a great tipper IF you treat me well and have skill). Not sure if this is what happened, but it's something I've noticed throughout the years of living in Michigan. I'm from California, where it's more culturally diverse and find this behavior unacceptable and appalling. read more

I have gone to this salon a couple times. They always do good. But today I met Kevin who did a wonderful job on my nails. I didn't feel like I was rushed to get my nails done not felt like I was asking to much. He constantly asked me if I liked them and was very knowledgeable about my nails. Definitely coming back here on a regular customer. read more

Done with this nail salon. No need making an appointment here, they don't keep it. I just spoke to Steve an hour and a half ago. Made an appointment with Kim. I walk in 5 minutes early and Kim is 5 minutes into another manicure. They will tell you it's only 15 minute wait (this time I was told 25 minutes) it's always longer. Ridiculous. On top of that my favorite technicians have moved on to another salon. read more

I rarely write reviews, but this occasion left a bad taste in my mouth. I came in this past Friday with my sisters for a fun day of mani/pedis the day before my sister's wedding. She had scheduled an appointment the day prior. When I called that afternoon to confirm, I was told they had no such appointment on their books, but it wouldn't be a problem. We show up, and it's fairly busy, but no big shocker. They seat us in the pedicure chairs, and then quickly pull my SIL to the mani chair.. while my sister and I are still getting pedis. Next goes my sister. Suddenly, I'm all alone at the spa, as they both finished up over an hour before I did. We went there for an experience, with champagne, to celebrate this occasion. Not only were we spilt up, but my nails were done terribly. I never get manicures, but was convinced the dip was the way to go... and now I'm staring at this absurdly thick, uneven, poorly shaped situation on my hands. I've heard great things about this place and most of the women in my family go here, so perhaps it was an isolated incident.. but something that was supposed to be a ton of fun for the bride to be and her sisters was just an expensive mess. As an update. I have now spent the last HOUR with my nails soaking in acetone, after a 20 minute cotton ball/foil wrap, and this WILL NOT COME OFF MY NAILS. I don't doubt they're "usually" good, but they rushed through my manicure, must have missed a step, and have literally destroyed my nails. read more

Don't go here. I can't stress this enough. They had great ratings and I had high hopes. I went in for a full set of almond shape acrylics. My acrylics were uneven and bumpy and the shape was completely wrong (I asked for almond, she said "what?") I had to go to another nail salon (Radiance in Richland, amazing work) to get my nails fixed. He was able to smooth out the acrylic and shape my nails as I had requested and shown to the woman at Star. I'm seriously disappointed and will not be returning. read more

you make an appointment with them they're always behind. I've been going to this place for 10 years and every single time I've made an appointment time in the last year I've gone in and they told me that somebody else needs to do my nails or I have to wait I'm done going there. I would not recommend them to anybody and my nails always breaking fall off every single time I get them done here. read more

I actually give this place 0 stars it was terrible! I went in for a pedicure and the lady ripped skin off the entire side if my foot causing it to bleed because she started scrubbing it so hard. They were very rude when i pointed it out and said they would give me a $5 discount. Even after demanding the service be free they tried telling me my foot was cut before I came in which it definitely was not. I will NEVER use this place again! Also, specifically asked the price before starting and they said with Shelac and a deluxe pedi the price was $45 and then tried to tell me it was $60 after the hack job on my foot. So i guess getting a cut costs a little extra. read more

I've been getting nails done since 1998. I have had good experiences and bad experiences, even at my favorite places. The thing about Star Nails, first of all, is the atmosphere..... The owner Steve takes great pride in making it a calming and pleasurable environment. Someone criticized that they try to talk you into a more expensive pedicure ....they offer a deluxe pedicure, it is a service they offer you don't have to accept it. For those who complain about the wait .... become a regular customer, they will treat you like a gem!
