I have been periodically going to Escape for 8 years. We had a reservation for 5 people at 6:00pm and switched it to 3. Arrived at 6 but seated at 6:10. They did not run the foot bath for one person until 6:20. I asked about getting service for her twice and they said someone was coming. Once the tech arrived almost 30 minutes later, service was sporadic. The tech took a phone call to the back door, got up a couple of times. After the phone call, she stopped to place a bag in someone else's bath and two new customers came and were immediately met with technicians while she hadn't really started the one who had been there at 6. Unacceptable when we were told they had the capacity for 5 customers and could only service 2. My tech had the stones and paraffin too hot and his attention to my cuticles was painful twice. Perhaps they were just off, but the quality of the service was sub par. read more

I came to Xscape Nail Spa today for a basic pedicure, which is normally $35. I decided to upgrade to the deluxe pedicure for $40. I requested regular white polish, as I always do. While doing my pedicure, the technician asked if I wanted shellac polish. I told him no, just regular polish. He then said he would charge me the same price for shellac, so I agreed. However, when I went to the counter to pay, the total was $56 -- not $40. I asked why, and they told me it was because I received shellac polish. I explained the situation, and they called the technician over. They then took $5 off, bringing my total to $50. I asked again why it was still $50. They told me it was because I had shellac on my toes from a previous visit, and they charged me $10 to remove it. I've never been charged for shellac removal before. On top of that, the service itself was disappointing. He didn't do my cuticles, didn't shape my toenails, and barely used a file on my feet. My right toe still hurts a little, which shouldn't happen after a pedicure -- especially a deluxe one. I didn't ask for shellac, and I only agreed to it because I was told the price wouldn't change. I'm on a fixed income and came in just wanting a simple pedicure. I shouldn't have to pay more than expected or feel pressured into an upcharge. Unfortunately, I left feeling frustrated and taken advantage of. I hope they do better going forward by being more transparent about pricing and respecting customer requests. read more

I went to Escape Nails Spa Sunday afternoon and got a deluxe pedicure. I thought the guy did a great job until I got outside and realized he did not fully polish some of my toes, there were smears, etc. I was going to let it go and not post a review, but this morning when I got to work I noticed the polish was already gone from one of my toes. Today is Tuesday. I have never had a pedicure that lasted less than 2 days. I do not recommend Escape Nails Spa. read more

Waiter over an hour to get a full set when they said it would take 20-30 minutes for wait. I ended up leaving without my nails done.

We had a party of 4 for an appointment at 11am for pedicures. We waited 30 minutes. The man doing my pedi was very rough and did a terrible job. He was working on my callused feet and only concentrated on the one to the side of the big toe and i got to the point I yelled OUCH but he kept on going. He totally ignored the heel callouses. I would give this place Zero stars if I could. The nail application was subpar as well. I'll send a pic. I would never recommend this place. The prices were high too, compared to other salons I've visited that do an excellent job. read more

Unfortunately my sister and I received really painful pedicures yesterday. We both had gel on from previously coming here. My cuticles were cut multiple times, to the point of them bleeding during my pedicures. My sister also had the blue foot suds poured onto her foot and dyed her skin blue. I went to Escape nail spa on Sunday. What a mistake. The place was dirty, the place looked like it had not been cleaned in a week or more. For a pedicure you have to pay for extras like a sugar scrub. I had to ask if he was going to use a pumice stone, and a grater. This is something that does not have to be paid for by other salons. The dip experience was the worst. I went in with fairly long nails. After she applied the dip she filed my nails. The nail was filed crooked so she continued to file. My nails are now shorted then my finger tips. The dip looks bad and the nail color was filed away from sides of nails so all you see is clear dip. terrible experience. Very unhappy. Okay I've been going to Escape Nails since I lived at Sage Terrace Apartments in 2010 so I've been a loyal customer for over a decade. I booked a surprise double pedicure for my girlfriend's birthday. Was so excited to take her there to start our day. I called a week in advance to make the appointment. However, when we walked in they told us they couldn't accommodate because they were short staffed and their schedule was full, even though I was on their schedule. Literally, didn't offer a credit, a discount or try to reschedule us. They gave a half hearted sorry not sorry and just stared at us until we left. Definitely never going here again, customer service is horrible. *edit I ended up getting a last minute appointment right down the road at Star Nails & Spa. I'll be honest, Escape Nail never gave me that nice feeling. It's small, poorly decorated and not very clean. When I walked into Star Nail I thought all this time a place that looks like they care was right down the road. Service was great, pedicures were $5 more (who cares) and the place was spacious. I have had nothing but good experiences with this nail salon. So far I have only received manis. More than 4 different nail techs have done my nails and it has veen good every time. I didn't give a perfect score because in the name of remarkable service I just wish someone would've mentioned the reward program they had. Those are the amenities that set you apart. This is a friend's go to spot for mani/pedis. The employees were not very talkative, but our attention was focused on chatting to each other. This may be personal preference but my priority for a pedicure is the quality of how my feet and nails turn out, less on the conversation. And my nails looked great! I was impressed with how well my nails were shaped. My other priority is cleanliness. Escape opens their tools from packaging, ensuing that they are sterile. The water basin has a plastic lining that is replaced and the employees wear gloves. I had a good experience and would return. read more

The nail tech was friendly but the nails were not at all what I asked for unfortunately. Sloppy on the edges and nails were uneven, glitter bumps making the nail surface uneven/not smooth. All of my nails should have had gold glitter but only two nails on each hand got the design, she finished up before I could say anything. The under side of the nails also had left over acrylic. Not worth $55. My friends nails were also just as bad. I feel bad because the nail techs were nice and got us in sooner than we expected but their work was not worth the money. I have been going to Escape Nails for many years now and have always had a great pedicure until today. Nail tech was rude and did a terrible job. She did not trim around my nails nor push cuticles back and the paint job was horrendous. She spent more time taking a brush loaded with nail polish remover and going around each nail to correct her mistakes which just made a bigger mess. Had she prepared my nails properly to begin with may not have been a problem. I made a complaint to the lady in the front of the salon, she said I could stay and she would have someone redo but I didn't have time today. Will be returning for a redo. read more

I was gifted a gift certificate for Escape. I called to ask if I needed an appointment and I was told no, to just come on in.. Soooo, I drove 30 mins to go get my nails and done only to be told I needed an appointment and they couldn't get me in for another 2.5 hours. I asked for a refund for my gift certificate as I had plans and needed my nails done, so I was going to go elsewhere & they denied the refund. Bad business & poor customer service. read more

The person originally assigned to do my pedicure did an extremely poor job-he cut my big toenail too short and grabbed my leg roughly. When I complained, he did not seem to understand what I was saying. The owner gave me a new tech and all went well. Also, the receptionist was (Chi Chi) was very helpful. Worst mani/pedi I've had in the Kalamazoo area. Both nails and toes were left very rough on the edges and you can see all the rough file marks through the polish- not buffed/smooth at all. I asked for my nails to be slightly cut down- he clipped my nails down to the skin- way too short. All kinds of split skin at my nail base from the terrible cuticle cutting and filing my skin. I was too upset to say anything or have anything redone. Will defiantly not be returning. read more

I've visited many of the nail shops in Kalamazoo over the last couple of years and I cannot believe it took me that long to find this gem. The facilities are trendy, spacious, well organized, and best of all, CLEAN! Tasteful, unobtrusive music is piped through the shop while very friendly nail techs invite you to sign in if you don't already have an appointment. I walked in on a Friday and highly recommend making an appointment ahead of time on high-traffic days like the weekends. Although I had to wait a little while, I was seated at a spa chair asap where I was able to soak my feet while indulging in the massage chair while I waited. While I relaxed I noticed none of the catty chatter that you can experience at other nail shops. If the nail techs were not conversing directly with their clients they just worked quietly while their clients relaxed. I received the BEST french spa pedicure I have gotten since moving to Kalamazoo, thanks to my new go-to nail man, Troung. Not once during my entire visit did I feel rushed, not like other places who want to take your money and shoo you out as fast as they can. Troung took his time, kept checking in with me to make sure I was okay with the water temperature, nail length, this paint job, etc. I really appreciated the opportunity to make sure he was doing what I asked as other places have been sloppy in their hurry to give my seat to the next customer. The massage was just heavenly - it was just long enough at just the right pressure to make my tired feet and legs feel relaxed and energized. After my nails were painted I was directed to a nail drying area where you are asked to put your hands and/or feet under UV lights to help cure the polish. Troung graciously set the timer for me and welcomed me to use their variety of Bath and Body Works lotions that they keep on the counter, along with a few choice magazines. The only factor that prevents me from giving a full five stars is the price. I paid $30 for a french spa pedicure, which I feel is a little on the pricey side. However, I definitely plan on being a regular for the occasional splurge. I heart Escape Nails Spa! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One year later: I was so afraid that I would return to discover that this place had degraded to 3-star status. WRONG! Upgraded to FIVE full stars!! The staff is so friendly, the ambience so relaxing, I think I just might ask rent out one of the spa chairs to chill out for an hour every day after work. I've been to a lot of nail salons in a lot of different cities and I'm thankful that this one is at my home base. Prices are comparable to others across the country and the service level they provide is much better than most. When you arrive you are promptly escorted back to your chair and asked if you want anything to drink. They provide water, soda or coffee, whichever you fancy. I haven't EVER been to a nail salon, paying $35 for a mani/pedi and gotten a free bottle of water. There is a fountain back by the pedicure chairs, which adds a calming effect and they always play a hit music station in the background. I always go to Lisa, who does a great job and I would recommend but Steve is also good. 5 stars would require an update to the pedicure chairs as I've sat in quite a few of them and they sound like motor is about to die for the massage. I normally just get a regular mani/pedi and they are always trying to upgrade you to shellac, which gets annoying, but I can't blame them as I assume most times they are successful on the upsell. read more

What separates this salon from the rest is they have a lot of technicians. When they say walk ins are welcome, they are and most likely they have someone that can take you right away or very soon. They are reasonable priced, clean and friendly. I get the powder dip on my nails $40. In Texas Township I'm charged $50. I get shellac, that lasts forever, on my toes $40. They have a very nice selection of colors. They just remodeled and it looks great. read more

Beautiful, clean salon, very relaxing atmosphere, and friendly staff. My pedicure recently was a delightful, and lengthy process, which I loved because at other salons, they're rushing to the next customer. I truly feel I got a great deal for the service. I rarely have to wait long for a manicure or pedicure here so I dont make an appointment usually. The manicurists are all evenly talented, although a few speak very little English so conversing is sometimes in vain. They are all very sweet though and you can always count on a "What can we do for you, hun?" when you walk in the door. A manicure is only 12 dollars and if you just want to get your nails painted its only 5 bucks. I think they prefer cash but I have used credit there too. My only negative experience I have had there was when I got some acrylic nails removed and the lady who was removing them soaked my hands in nail polish remover and left for 20 minutes and didn't turn the fume sucker on so I almost passed out. Twice now I've gone here and gotten a pedicure and the paint started chipping within days. The first time I assumed I didn't wait long enough to let it dry, but the last time I sat under the fans for 30 minutes and wore sandals. The last french tip pedicure (at a different salon) I got lasted over 3 weeks because the tips didn't start chipping for a while, this pedicure the tips chipped after a day. ONE day. Me and my fiancé went for a pedicure and they said we both could get in with just a short wait. We go and sit in the chair and someone starts helping my fiancé as I sit there with my feet in the water. 20 minutes go by and I've seen three other customers sit and get their pedicure started while I'm just sitting. My fiancé asks if someone is coming to help me after half hour of waiting and they keep saying it will only be a little bit longer. I feel very angry and neglected by this business and am very disappointed with my time here. I would not recommend going here if you are a male because they will treat you differently. Once I finally did have someone help me, she was cutting at my cuticles on my toes and wasn't looking. I was afraid she was going to accidentally cut me since she wasn't paying attention. After leaving the salon, my shellac lasted less than a week. Most salons that I've gone to the shellac lasts around 3 weeks before it starts to chip.
