If you are a wine lover, wine enthusiast or wine connoisseur you MUST make Lumiere Winery a stop on your Temecula Valley wine trip. The wine is Phenomenal, but make sure that you really appreciate wine as these wines here are not to be trifled with. They are full body and Bordeaux style. There are a couple whites that are very good for those in your party that cannot handle Red Wine. The scenery is so serene and tranquil. You are up on top of a hill looking over the vineyards. It is so quiet and peaceful that you are truly enjoying the wine. You are able to bring outside food and snacks with you to enjoy on the patio. The pricing of the flights is unbeatable for Temecula and honestly better than any winery or tasting room my wife and I have been to in California. The bottle prices are truly fair as well. I had a lovely visit as part of a group wine tasting with 10 women on a recent Friday afternoon. Lumiere is a small boutique family-owned and managed winery located at the top of a hill on Calle Contento off Rancho California Road. All their wines are estate grown. The original vines, all Sauvignon Blanc, were planted in 1980 on the 21 acre vineyard. The current owners, the Kleiner family, purchased the property in 1987 and started growing grapes which they originally sold to local wineries. Their focus is on Bordeaux wines. They kept 6 acres of the original Sauv Blanc vines and added vines of the 5 "Noble Grapes of Bordeaux" - Merlot, Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cab Franc. Construction of the winery started in 2006, tasting room offerings began in late 2010 and the official opening was in 2014. Andrew Kleiner is the winemaker and his mother, Martha serves up wine, as well as fascinating stories about Temecula Valley wine history. She is charming, kind and very knowledgeable. She welcomes visitors to Lumiere and makes you feel right at home. Her love of the wine and all the history surrounding this special place shines through - Lumiere is so fortunate to have her there! We had such a wonderful time tasting and learning. Lumiere has a small indoor tasting room and although it was a warm day, there was a delightful breeze coming through and we were perfectly comfortable sitting outside on the covered patio. Tastings are very reasonably priced, with options for premium ($15 for 6 tastes) or reserve ($25 for 5 tastes), as well as $10 for 3 tastes of all premium red or all white. Add $5 and you go home with a logo wine glass! I opted for the reserve tasting and especially enjoyed the 2012 Cab Franc. Martha was gracious enough to also give us tastes of their two Sauv Blancs - 2006 late harvest and 2013 Fashionably Late. The late harvest SB was a bit sweet for my taste with 4.5% residual sugar, but I loved the Fashionably Late - both the name and the wine! They're open Thursday-Monday 11am-6pm, are kid and pet-friendly, and invite you to bring outside food in to enjoy with your wine. This is a special little winery that might otherwise get overlooked as you make plans to go wine tasting in Temecula. But I'd encourage anyone visiting (or living in the area as I do!) to pack a little picnic basket with some cheese/crackers, nuts and dark chocolate and head out to Lumiere! read more

Had visited this amazing winery on a Sunday afternoon. It was very quiet, but actually nice. Had the whole winery to myself. Martha the owner was so sweet! Her company kept me occupied throughout my tastings. We had a great time sitting and chatting while she tells me about her winery. The wines were all delivered with exquisite tastes. There's no kitchen at this property, so you can bring your own food. Great view from the top overlooking the vineyards and other wineries. Good spot to bring your kids as well. Truly a hidden gem. We stopped by Lumiere Winery when the winery we wanted to visit was closed. I read the great reviews here on yelp and was impressed. Some reviews mention that the winery is beautiful, but at least from what I saw from the small tasting room, it appeared a bit run down. We were greeted by a woman who was very nice and personable. She told us that her son was the owner and she enthusiastically told us about their wines. My husband and I decided to have the Cab Franc and sit outside. I love a smaller winery. Beautiful stone archways with the long driveway up the mountain. This was one of the original wineries in Temecula Planted in 1980. Originally the family used to work the Winery with the kids, but turned it over to management when the kids went off to school . After the son finished with a degree in accounting He returned home to see the growth and development. Having a business background, and working in the winery as a young boy . He decided to let go of management, and take over But not before returning to to UC Davis to study viticulture and enology. After that, he refurbished the winery. To the glory it is today. I'm not sure how we came across this tiny winery when we were looking for a spot to check out on our drive home to San Diego from Palm Springs but the name immediately made my Disney loving brain think about Beauty and the Beast and I was hooked. We went to this winery because I prefer smaller, family owned wineries with less people. The sommelier who is the owners mom is incredible. She is so kind and makes you feel like at home. I've been to about 30 wineries in Temecula and she is one of my favorite sommelier's ever. For wine I had their white red and it was a very nice balance between not too sweet and sweet. Located on a branch of road off the main street in Temecula, this winery sits atop a hill overlooking countless rows of grapevines facing the northwest and northeast. There is a quaint tasting room for those who like to be at the bar and about 7 tables outside in a covered patio. Because Lumiere Winery isn't on the main road, I feel that they don't get lots of traffic. Meaning that there is more attention paid to the patron. That's exactly what happened today. For some odd reason my wife and I must've missed weekend rush. We got here at 11am and stayed for about 2.5 hours and had the whole place to ourselves. It was spectacular! The tastings are $15 per person for 7 wines on the pre-set menu with wine glass included. Although, I do think we got more like 9 pours, which is definitely fine by me. Martha was great and we had time to chit-chat with her about the winery and the business and wines that were being produced. Stephanie was totally awesome, she schooled us on the scientific aspects of the grapes, harvest, and production of the wines themselves. Thanks for such a great time Martha and Stephanie. Small boutique winery on a hot summer day (sitting where the breeze hits makes a huge difference). I got the premium wine tasting ($15) and my boyfriend got the reserve ($25). The premium had alright wines but the reserve had the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc we've ever had, hands down. We would come back just for those wines. Martha, the owner who's son is the winemaker, is super nice and even gave me an extra tasting of a Sauvignon blanc off menu. No available crackers/bread due to a kitchen staff shortage, but Martha said we could bring any outside foods we want to have with the wines. read more

I am so, so confused by the rating here (and a little sad that I didn't experience the same quaint and delicious tasting that apparently others did?) I love wine, but my friends and I are not pretentious about it in any way. We came in in the early afternoon on a Saturday for a reds-only tasting after seeing the rave reviews on Yelp. The grounds are lovely, though the tasting room is small and stark, like a recently-remodeled garage. Our first warning should have been that the wine appeared to be DEEPLY discounted, as advertised by a "3 bottles for $33!" chalkboard and a man who was chased down after he managed to spend $100 to be sure he received his free bonus gift...another bottle of wine. The fresh bread we were provided was a thoughtful touch, but was almost certainly a frozen breadstick that had been baked that morning and sliced into razor-thin communion-wafer-style slices. (Delicious all the same.) Now for the wines. Ohhhh, the wines. The sweet, sweet boy behind the counter poured our first glass and described it. The taste was...earthy. And nearly 50% sediment, which was frightening. The sweet boy returned with the next bottle, started at the sight of our mulch-filled glasses, and retrieved a bowl and water to wash them out, mumbling something about sediment or filtration, and proceeded to give us the tasting notes for our second pour. The second glass was almost certainly rancid, but there was no dump vessel. We were eager to try the third wine, (Le Cirque, maybe?) which boasted a $90+ price tag per bottle, and it was FINE. Really and truly just fine. Two stars. Exasperated, three of our 5-person group put out cash and left, leaving their glasses on the counter. It was then that the manager (Martha?) approached and kindly asked what tasting we were on, ready to engage us. I tried to shrug it off, saying "oh, no, that was #3. We're done, thank you". Incredulous, Martha looked at us, at the glasses of wine left on the counter, and said "but...there's still wine here?" My compatriot and I looked at each other, awkwardly said "yeahhhhhh..." signed our checks and noped out of there. Not a favorite, Lumiere. Not a favorite. read more

When it comes to wineries I try to avoid crowds and drink good wine....we stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and we were the only customers so that was kind of neat. This winery has not got a big following nor do they have a wine club. Martha, the owner, tells us the reason for no wine club is simple.....they are a micro boutique winery and maybe produce 150 cases of each varietal. The wines are all produced from estate grapes which means they were grown on site....no imported grapes. We did a tasting that cost $15 and you get six tastes. There was a good variety in the tasting....sweet white, to Sauvignon blanc (very good) to cab franc and a couple more reds which were goid and then a finish with a sparking wine which I'm personally not a fan of myself. The cab franc, cab Sauvignon and romantic fantasy were my personal faves. They make fresh bread daily which is offered with the tasting at no charge. They also offer salads, cheese boards and can whip out a few different sandwiches. Very nice little gem and somewhat undiscovered winery....give them a try if think you'll like them. read more

One of my favorite wineries in the area! Lumiere Winery is definitely on the smaller side when compared to the other wineries in the area, but that's what I like about it! When we arrived, the wine pourer was able to help us right away. We got 1 tasting to share and a small cheese platter. We sat outside at their barrel table, which was really cute. We brought our dog with us and she was able to roam around the winery. The wines here were really good! I really liked the White Merlot and we ended up getting 2 bottles of it. This is a very small, quaint winery with none of the pretentiousness or high prices of its surrounding neighbors. We were driving thru the area and wanted a little reprieve from our drive. And, hey, wine! We went to two other wineries before this one. The first one we didn't get out of the car as it was packed. The second one was packed but we decided to give it a go. The wines were okay, but it was far too trendy and the service wasn't great during our tasting. So, I saw that while Lumiere had much less ratings, they were very good ratings, so we decided to check it out. We were greeted outside and went in. It's a very small tasting room and it was clean, airy, and felt very casual. The girl that did our tasting session was nice and fun, & we liked a number of wines we tried. We ordered the hummus plate (so good!), and sat down outside to eat that while enjoying our last tasting wine (the dessert one). The outside seating area is nice, there's a pretty view, and it's got plenty of trees to keep it cool and enjoyable. We bought 3 bottles (I think $36?) of the Sauvignon Blancs. Two were the "fashionably late" and one was the regular, and left after spending about an hour there. One thing I have to say is that this place is really the winery experience I love. I don't like the fancy buildings or overly pretentious ambiance of some wineries. This place was modest, allowing the wines and your experience here to speak for itself. Lumiere Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the Temecula Valley. The tasting room was forgettable, and they only had one employee in there who made sure to tell us she was the only employee in there. The aged their whites which I found strange. But their reds. Oh my goodness. Everything they produce is grown on site, a far cry from what Peltzer was selling. We had a Cab that was 10 years old and retailing for $160/bottle and is a fantastic. We ended up going home with a Cab/Merlot blend that should age for another 5 years or so. This is the most underrated winery in Temecula for sure. We pulled up on a rainy Saturday morning and it was just us and Martha in the entire place.
