Garlic Pizza with Pepperoni!
Vic E.

I decided to come down here on a whim since this is one of the few pizza places I have never been to despite the fact that they have been in operation for years and I drive by that spot regularly. Luigi's Pizza is located in a dilapidated strip mall off of Arctic Blvd. and International Airport Rd. next to a tanning salon and Lucky Market. It is impressive to see the business still going in contrast to the numerous empty storefronts that housed Villa Nova Restaurant and most recently Hong Kong Spirit Food. Now that new restrictions for bars and restaurants are in place for dining in, it is more important than ever to support small long-time establishments like this. I decided to try a small Garlic Pizza (garlic sauce base, onions, mushrooms, feta cheese, and chunks of garlic with pepperoni as an added request). The pizza was prepared in a short amount of time (about 20 minutes after calling ahead). This resulted in just a two minute wait by the time I came down to pick it up. The pizza was delicious with a generous amount of diced garlic (not the powder that some other places would add as a topping). The only setback was that the texture of the dough is a little firmer than I would like but it wasn't enough to take away from the enjoyment of the pizza overall. There are some really good promotional deals for anyone who places an order for pickup. A medium Pepperoni Pizza will only cost you $5.00, one of the best values from a pizzeria that is not part of a franchise and an XL two-topping pizza is only $12.99. These are promotional deals that run all day and not just for lunch. The Taco Supreme Pizza (taco meat, tortilla chips, sour cream, black olives, onions, spicy taco sauce, and a cheese blend) and the Chili Pizza (chili sauce, ground beef, onions, and cheese) are some of the more interesting selections to try on the next visit.

Large Extra Cheese and Mushrooms.

Chose to try the pizza here based off positive reviews from other people. I ordered the 2 large 2 topping special for $20 which is an amazing deal for Alaska standards. First pie had mushrooms-extra cheese and the second pepperoni-jalapenos. The cheese and toppings were tasty and they didn't use a lot of sauce. The crust was thin and had a buttery taste. Overall I was very pleased with the cost and taste. Definitely will be trying other menu items in the future.

Simply put, pizza at this price and quality cannot be beat. And yes, I'm referring to their daily $5 medium pizza deal. Not even Pizza Hut or Domino's offer pizzas at this price point. Mind you, I've only ever had their medium pepperoni and cheese pizzas. But I'd argue that this puts me in a better position to judge the quality of their ingredients. As such, I'd say their dough is one of the better-tasting ones in town. It's thin with a light crisp and chewy crumb along with a mild yeasty flavor. Baked to perfection. Their sauce is pretty standard but not too sweet like other places. I'm not sure what else to say to get you to try their pizzas. You only have $5 to lose and at best, you've had one of the best pies Anchorage has to offer. Do it.

Good pizza that's not aiming for another moose's tooth! They charge a bit much for a side of sauce but the rest is great!

The pies are very tasty, made quick, and you cannot beat the price. This is a delivery or pickup only place. Great for those on a budget.

Simply the best pizza in Anchorage. ‍ Highly recommend…read moreordering larger pies and splitting 1/2-1/2 toppings if you're a group of folks who want different things. My go to is the Jalapeño Business / veggie delight. This place is busy no matter what time and day you come, so prepare to wait if you hit peak hours. But on the upside - the beers are great too and fast to arrive, so you won't be thirsty while waiting. Noise level is usually low for being so busy, but it may depend on where you end up getting seated. Nice airy feel to the place, decorated in a style that I guess can only be described as...Alaskan? ‍ And yes, even if you stay downtown the drive over here is worth it.

They really missed the mark. For starters we got my husband's usual Chipotle steak pizza. Right off the bat I notice it's a weird oval kind of shape. It's not a circle and the pieces don't add up. I'm positive that the someone in the kitchen sliced out the middle the pizza and put it in the box like it wouldn't be noticed. Worst of all. I ordered a pound of their Korean style wings. I usually love these. I thought initially that these are so tiny it's a good thing it's by the weight, not quantity. Well. These were not fit for consumption. I managed to eat two wings that were on the crunchy side. The rest were unfit for consumption. We're talking chicken wing jerky. A bite cracks right through the bone, crunchy marrow, dry translucent meat. What a disappointment. This wouldn't even be something you could feed a dog. So bad. This experience was the worst I've had with Moose's Tooth. It was so disappointing and also weird. Do better.

Now, my first culinary experience with this restaurant was a good one, their cheese burger with honey and whipped Brie?!?!?!?!?! Is a masterpiece disguised as a cheese burger the tater tots on the side? Meh! Nothing to see there. The most mind-binding, disrespectful thing I came across at this establishment is them calling a glorified Little Caesar's quality cheese bread with a side of dipping sauce a "Pizza" if it wasn't enough that this cheese bread was marketed as a "Pizza" which it is not but to call it a Detroit style Deep dish? Unforgivable! I wanted to love this pizza so badly but I cannot allow anyone else to spend $28.00 on a dried out, over cooked order of cheese bread. The service was good until I was given Diet Coke instead of Coke Zero. I swear service recovery is such a lost art. C-

Yak burger anyone??? I was in beautiful Anchorage and…read morewanted to grab some lunch. 49th state brewing was perfect because it wasn't far from my hotel and because it was so cold outside, I didn't want my walk to exceed 15 minutes. I was really hungry so I got there right when they opened at 11 a.m. I was able to be seated immediately and opted to sit upstairs where the tables were lower as compared to downstairs where the tables were high tops. Off the bat the food is phenomenal. For starters I got their popular handmade Bavarian pretzel. It was perfectly seasoned with butter and salt and the pretzel itself was soft and fluffy. It came with a side of cheese which was just as tasty. I was a little nervous it would taste like the melted cheese you eat at an amusement park- but this cheese had fantastic quality. One really neat thing about this brewery is they make their own fountain drinks! I tried the raspberry one and as you can see they aren't shy about the portions! The drink was really good. It had a great flavor to it, and a nice balance. The raspberry wasn't overpowering which I'm grateful for. For my entree I had the Yak burger that came with a side of tater tots. My waiter recommended I get it cooked at medium to keep it juicy. Typically I'm a medium well to well done type of girl, but I decided to trust his judgement and he was right! The burger was huge, messy, and delicious. The medium was definitely a good call. It was juicy but not so red where it would be off putting! Overall, I had a really incredible dining experience at 49th state brewing. And the prices were unbelievably reasonable. My meal came out to about $52 (not including my tip). I would love to come back when it's a bit warmer and sit outside- the views from the restaurant are phenomenal. Also, shout out to my waiter! I didn't get his name but he was so kind and the service was excellent!
