Old school Italian with a Greek Twist ! I had been wanting to try for some time and had the pleasure of meeting one of the third generation owners. The Italian sausage lasagna with Italian sausage was deconstructed and a must when you go. We ordered a small pizza to go and it was equally solid. The service is second to none and they treat you like beloved family ! The ambiance is old school Italian - where I was expecting my Nonna to come tuck a dish towel in my shirt to avoid red sauce stains :). I love this place for sooo many reasons. The vibe, nostalgia, service, and that it has so much history. Having said that, the portions are small. My pasta dish was gone in less than 10 bites. We went to Luigi's for our anniversary and we were glad we did! Service was friendly and unrushed, the place was intimate and lively, and everything we ate was delicious! Established in 1949, Luigi's is family owned and serves Italian and Greek fare. Everything tasted homemade and the seasonings were clearly family recipes. We started off with Spanakopita which arrived hot and tasty. This was followed by sharing a cup of Avgolemono Soup. The soup had a unique flair and was delightful. With our soup, we also had their Italian toast, which was fantastic. We both ordered the Chicken Parmigiana. This too was wonderful. The sauce on the pasta was so unusual and refreshing. The chicken was not smothered with cheese and the batter and chicken shone through and through. The portions were just right, even with appetizers. For dessert, we had Tiramisu. This too was clearly a family recipe. It was sweet, light, and enjoyable! Luigi's was definitely a highlight of our visit to Augusta. They know what good food and hospitality are all about. I want to mention the especially delicious marinara. Loved the garlicky marinara sauce this go round! I just had to get some extra on the side to dip my warm bread. Tonight was extra delicious. Everything was cooked to perfections... albeit, remind me to get romaine versus iceberg lettuce... Get a caesar salad and ask for tomatoes... And ask...so they have anchovies?! My Greek pork was grilled to perfection moist and tastily balanced sauce of lemon pepper and olive oil tonight. I wanted to lick my plate! This was my first visit. It won't be the last. They took our number so we could walk around downtown while we waited for our table. We get the call and we're off. We get seated and the server came by to let us know she would be right with us. She spoke with us about different bar offerings (only downside- no bar menu). We order our drinks; we order our meals. We walked in expecting great family owned Italian food. The 1950s ambience is wonderful except the food was mediocre. If you have an Italian restaurant you need to have a great marinara sauce ; This is too sweet. The pasta was mushy overcooked and chicken parmigiana had a coating so thick it could float. The Greek chicken was meh and the rice it came with had a weird taste. You are much better off learning to cook Italian cuisine yourself. read more

If you want an amazing Greek-Italian fusion meal, with a classic ambiance and friendly atmosphere, look no further. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Augusta. When we eat here- we don't speak, but only because the food is so good. To drink, try the basket wine, it's a delicious red that comes by the bottle and is perfect to share. Try anything on the menu, but if you want some recs, here's what we get: baked Greek chicken with rice pilaf (You will dream about this chicken which is the granddaddy of rotisserie. You get half a chicken which is marinated for hours and fall off the bone delicious.) , and a Luigi's combo pizza. We usually split the 2 dishes so we get a taste of each. We have a nut allergy so the only dessert we have tried is the tiramisu, but it was the perfect finisher. read more

I grew up in Augusta and remember Luigi's not being super delicious but decided to give it another shot this past weekend. It is absolutely worse than I recalled. Their sauce, which I heard my server tell another table isn't very good by saying "I don't care for our red sauce very much," is like the Italian version of sweet tea. There has to be 3 cups of sugar per batch. It's horrendous. We started with the "toasted ravioli," which were an abomination. I LOOOOVE toasted ravioli. Top 10 dish in my book. These were not that. Whereas a proper toasted ravioli is egg washed and dipped in seasoned breadcrumbs before frying, this was apparently dipped in pancake batter. Topped with that sweet sauce, it was inedible. We had 4 diners and 5 ravioli. Never in my life have I seen people try to convince others at the table to eat the last toasted ravioli. It was sent back to the kitchen. Unfortunately, the "pizzas" were no more of an improvement. I can't quite describe the crust, but it was crunchy with zero flavor. Someone at the table put it best by saying "this is like bowling alley pizza." The sauce and low grade parmesan did not help at all. As for the decor, let's just say the carpet looks a minimum of 6 years old and the place seemingly has received no love at all in the last 30 years. I would be terrified to see the state of the kitchen and walk-ins. It's not good people. Just because something is old, doesn't mean it's a classic. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant on a rainy, weeknight while in town for an event at the Miller Theater. What a treat! I loved the ambiance and am glad that they haven't "modernized " this restaurant. It has a warmth. The service was excellent and the staff was hopping as every seat in the place filled! Granted is not a large place, but there was a wait line at 6:00 PM. We have been on a quest to find the "best" pizza. We ordered the Luigi's combo and was not disappointed. We would definitely eat this one again! We also had salads which were good. The house vinaigrette was delicious. I'm so glad that I didn't read reviews before we found ourselves at their door! I would have missed a memorable experience. read more

I'm glad I finally have opportunity to dine at this Augusta institution! We went on Friday night about 7 o'clock, and the restaurant was busy but not slammed. Our party of three did not have to wait for a table. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful with menu choices. We had the Veal Parmigiana the chicken Parmigiana and the Greek pork chops. The portion sizes were very generous! I had the potato wedges with my pork chops, and they were delicious! We were all very happy with our food. Luigi's has such a great vibe. It is definitely an old school dive type atmosphere. I plan on heading back soon, because I've got to try the delicious looking pizza that I saw on other diners' tables! read more

I think the only thing thing this place has going for it is a little history. It smells old and musty. The booths are small and cramped. Food was mediocre. Service was also average at best. Finally got to check out this unexpected gem smack dab in the middle of the seedy part of Broad Street. Please don't let location keep you away! The service was excellent and the food tasty. Greek salad was marginal, tired iceberg lettuce, four tomato wedges, good Kalamata olives, generous amount of feta crumbles. Post#2 (because my other is filtered for some reason) This place is rude, unfriendly, and unaccommodating. I went there about two weeks ago (the second time I was there. The first I had pizza, and it was an in and out experience) The staff seemed like I was bothering them, more than doing them a favor by giving them business and tips. All I wanted that day was some good chicken Alfredo, and figured this "authentic Italian" rest. would do the trick. Not. First it is situated between two disgusting strips clubs in a run down part of Broad Street in Augusta. I asked the server if I could have mahi mahi (just a piece of fish!!) on my Alfredo instead of chicken (because they offered it on another entree). She was very stuffy about the request, said no immediately, and waited for my answer. I asked her to ask the owner. He said only if I paid for the entree it was served on (15.00 platter) PLUS the Alfredo fett. cost (8.00). Mind you, adding a piece of chicken was only 2.00, but 15.00 for just one piece of mahi. No thanks. I am sorry but most restaurants will accommodate you, especially if they have the ability to make something not offered on the menu. I found this very rude and settled for the chicken Alfredo. The food came out and was bland as ever! I added so much salt, pepper, and parm cheese that it looked totally different. It still was not that cheesy, and I only ate it because I was so hungry. The staff was very unenthusiastic and I was extremely disappointed. I will not be going back there, ever. I had lunch here with some co-workers. I was not impressed. I ordered the moussaka because I am in love with Greek food. It was very under seasoned and eggy. We had a large party and we were made to sit in the middle on this very small restaurant with the door inches from us and our table. I don't see how this restaurant has stayed in business this long. The food is terrible, it's unreal how long it took to get "Greek spaghetti" (butter with spaghetti noodles + Italian sausage--that was cold), and a personal/10" pepperoni pizza. The pizza is somewhere between Chuck E. Cheese and Costco quality. My family and I have lived overseas and traveled many times to various places in Italy and Greece, nowhere did we have similar cuisine to what was served at Luigi's. The Greek salad was 1/6 of a head of yellow lettuce, 4 thin slices of tomatoes, 2 banana peppers, and 4 Kalamata olives. The vinaigrette dressing was not edible. The service was terrible, from our waitress, although I will say there were other staff that seemed to be related that was serving their guests promptly and courteously. Our waitress seemed to be stressed and didn't want to be there, recommend she not be in the service industry if she can't be pleasant. The recent interview about this place is what made us think to try it out. I'm not sure if the news crew actually ate there or not, but the ambiance described as "cozy" and family friendly is misleading. First off the place is next to Vegas Girls, around the corner where we had to park, with a sign that highlights how they have maximum exposure. Next door there is a bar with people outside smoking and drinking. Inside the restaurant, it is outdated, to include the non-working jukebox machine at the front entrance and at every table. The booths are very likely the same installed in 1949, as they were small and uncomfortable. My family is an active family, runners, so we are not large or overweight people. The HVAC should also be looked at as the ceiling vent had black residue all around it--can't be good to be breathing this in! I would give this place a 0/5 if possible and wouldn't even recommend, if the meal was free. read more

One of the worst dining experience I've ever had. Should have thought twice after I called for reservations on NYE. Told in harsh voice "we don't take reservations, just come in" and phone slammed down. Walk in, seated, gave a menu, waitress appears in a minute ready to take order. Comes out over dressed, swimming in tasteless dressing with a basket of crackers and butter. When dinner arrives, fish is white fish- looks like Gordon's precut fish over salty rice, and lemon juice. My dinner is a side of canned tomato sauce with over cooked spaghetti and fried chicken livers like you would get at a meat and three. Will say livers were cooked good, but for $12 not that good. Ask for bread, out comes one Kroger bake and serve roll, cut in half with finger indentation from who ever cut in. Not even warm. Order a baklava for dessert. Dropped off with check, no offer of coffee. Tried cutting, couldn't get through it. Call waitress over, telling her it is dry and tough. Picks it up,telling" no it's not". I'll take it off your bill. No check presenter, just a scribbled oRder pad check. Lay out credit card to pay and told just bring it to the cashier $55 for 3 glasses of wine,2 salads and 2 entrees. Tell cashier/ manager that food wasn't very good and told " we've been here over 60 years, you don't know good food" I was in hospitality industry for over 23 years, so I have a good idea about food. We read reviews and said let's go! Family of 6, 4 kids 17 to 5 years and every single one loved everything. Veal Parmesan with their homemade meat sauce was amazing. My husband loves Italian and it's one of the best he has had! Chicken fettuccine, baked spaghetti with meat balls, and pizza was also so good.
