    Traditional Ethiopian coffee

This place is so unique and truly a treasure! I don't know much about Ethiopian culture or food but after having the coffee here, I am excited to learn more! The traditional Ethiopian coffee is very strong but has a different kind of spiced flavor that is different from American coffee. You get a bowl of sweet popcorn, a pot of coffee served with some delicious smelling herb/incense all for around $5! The lady at the desk was very friendly and the patrons sitting in the front were even friendly too. I can't stress enough the cozy ambience of this place too! It smells like incense and the decorations are cool too. Come here!

Delightful experience at Lucy Ethiopian Coffee. I ordered a cup of the Ethiopian Coffee with Rue. It is served in a small cup but it comes on a tray with incense, popcorn, sugar, and a little wooden pitcher with more coffee in it. You can get it with or without rue, I'm not sure if it adds flavor to the coffee - the coffee is strong! It was all nice, the flavor is good. I don't normally have sugar in hot coffee but it seemed appropriate to add it to this. The popcorn is nice and a little bit sweet. At $4.99, I feel like this is a great value. I also ordered the fetira with honey. It looks like a tortilla but also is like a pastry. It was very nice. I want to come back and try some other Ethiopian breakfast items on the menu. The space is comfortable and welcoming. The owner is sweet and described the menu items for me. Ethiopian music is playing, not too loud. Had a nice conversation with my friend and I definitely became more talkative as I refilled the small coffee cup! Good stuff! My friend had an Americano, she said it was delicious and had a bit of cinnamon taste. There is a traditional "coffee service" for groups and I will absolutely be coming back to do this.

Iced Caramel Coffee with whipped cream

Meran (forgive me for the spelling) was the one who helped me out today and she was very apologetic and kind. They serve Ethiopian sourced coffee as well as baked goods/sweets. They also have hardy breakfast options such as a cheese omelet or avocado toast. Customer service was lovely, and I just think this spot should have more visitors buzzing in the morning. My iced coffee was so tasty, it's just as good as anywhere else, but better pricing.

Get the coffee ceremony- trust me on this one. From the roasting of the coffee in front of you on an open flame to the incense to the delightful coffee itself, it is quite the experience. You can have up to 6 people in your party. It takes about an hour but is well worth it. Tracey K and I also enjoyed a slice of baklava; a perfect compliment to the coffee. In addition, they have your regular coffee selections here including Cafe mocha, latte, Americano, etc as well as some food selections, both traditional and non-traditional items You can get it to go or hang out here. I'll definitely be back to Lucy's when I need to get my coffee fix!

Roasting our coffee beans for the Ethiopian coffee experience.

My husband and I came to Lucy's on a Saturday morning for the coffee experience. The owner, Berhan, was a delightful hostess. She brought us fresh popcorn and then sat down with us to roast the beans for our coffee. She then did full coffee service and sat and enjoyed coffee with us. We had the baklava, delicious, and enjoyed interesting conversation. I encourage coffee lovers, especially those that like black coffee, to visit Berhan and try her coffee.

My daughter found out this place opened on instagram, so of course, our coffee loving selves had to go check it out! It is convieniently located across the Ethiopian restaurant right off of saddle creek road. There is a parking lot there, so tons of parking! Once you walk in, you can smell the coffee! I ordered an espresso and my daughter ordered a smoothie. We also got some treats for the little guy to eat as well. The espresso was so good! Unlike any other kind of espresso, it tastes as if it has some spices in there to make it taste different. I highly recommend if you come here, to try the espresso! If you want to, you can also experience an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony. We didn't do that when we went, but we did see one happening and it seems pretty interesting! We will definitely come back to try it for sure!

Delightful experience. I was not anticipating the popcorn but it was delicious and we ate it all. The coffee was smooth and not bitter. The presentation and care that went into the coffee was nice. Served with the burning sage makes it unique. We want to go back for a breakfast!

The location on 204th Street in Gretna is clean, open, inviting ... but noisy. It's one of those warehouse-type settings where you really have to work at having a private conversation. Seating is expecially comfortable in the big chairs, but then you have to schootch them close together and lean in so you can hear each other, which is unfortunate. Granted, tables are set far apart, but this should be in addition to. Coffee was delicious, but the beignet bites were just so-so. Granted, one should not expect New Orleans beignets outside of New Orleans, but these little donut puffs had only a light dusting of powdered sugar (which I actually was thankful for because I wore black pants!), and there was a not-overly-pleasant surprise inside with an indistinguishable creamy substance that was sort of like the inside of a brown sugar cinnamon poptart, only less so. I hadn't been expecting that. The yogurt parfait was substantial and delicious. (The staff was friendly and helpful when making selections, but it didn't occur to me to ask about fillings.) I might visit again, but maybe at one of the other locations, if acoustics were more promising.

Let me lead off with the fact that this is probably the best multi-roaster shop I've ever been to…read more I've loved specialty coffee since before it was cool to love specialty coffee, and I've hit hundreds--if not thousands--of coffee shops all across North America looking for golden pourovers. This place is absolutely IT. They have a rotating selection of specialty roasters such as DAK and B&W, and the experience and expertise to do them justice. The ambiance is warm and amazing, and I feel incredibly welcome here. If you're looking for an amazing place to get a true cup of specialty coffee, and you happen to be in Omaha, you don't need to read anything else--just give them a try. However, if you aren't really sure what I mean when I say "specialty coffee," or why this is such a big deal for me ("It's just a cup of joe!?"), please read on. WARNING: Coffee geek out ahead! "Coffee" is a berry, much like a large, firm cherry, that grows in equatorial climates. The seed of this berry, when the "meat" is removed, is dried, stored, shipped, roasted, and ground; water of the appropriate temperature is introduced for an appropriate amount of time to achieve a partial extraction of the acids and oils that make up the structure of the seed. Every step of that process, from the nutrients in the soil of the growing region to the precise duration of the pour / the partiality of the extraction changes the flavor substantially. Coffee, roasted until it dries and its proteins have just begun to undergo the mailliard reaction, ground evenly to a consistency somewhere between table salt and ground pepper, combined with 94-95°C water at about a 17:1 ratio by weight, and then filtered to remove the partially-extracted ground coffee, will yield a cup with remarkably wild flavors--berries, flowers, and explosion of floral aroma. It can taste like strawberries and cream, or blueberries, or caramel and peach, depending on any or all of the factors above. As a crop highly subject to the variation of its growing season, however, sometimes those flavors can trend to less pleasant, or not mix well in milk, or dominate a beverage that they're mixed into. Further, the coffee harvest season is not a single time of year--you need to follow the coffee calendar around the world to know what's in season at any given time. For large coffee shops, or roasters that specialize in "coffee beverages," or even specialty shops that exist in a market that requires them to maintain a consistent base espresso or blend for their regular, non-specialty customers, or who are subject to a pricing cap that rotating lots will exceed, that level of variation is often undesirable, and the cup results will likely be unappreciated by the body of the clientelé. So it can be desirable to "unify" that wildness to focus on round, caramel notes and big body. The one thing that unifies the flavor of coffee, more than any other single factor, is the roasting process. When you want to use coffee as a beverage base with a "generic coffee flavor," you want to reduce the wildness of the flavors and enhance the body flavor, and so you subject the seeds to a more prolonged roasting process that results in the evulsion of oils, and gives you a body that milk settles into for that "roasty toasty bold rich" flavor. People like me, who are looking for those wild, sweet, floral, mind-altering cups refer to all of these as "over roasted," although we can appreciate roast variation and coffee blending for espresso beverages. With the preamble out of the way, 99.9% of coffee in North America is what specialty coffee enthusiasts refer to as "bad." That includes Dunks, Folgers, Horties, Chock full, and so on, ad nauseam. Worse than that, for us, is what we consider "gross"--Starbucks, Peet's, Philz, and so on, that is roasted so dark that it tastes, at its best, like bitter, undrinkable char. If you like any or all of these coffee brands, that's totally ok--I enjoy the "bad' coffee as a nice, warm beverage with milk and sugar. (I can't drink the "gross" coffee, though). And as I said, it's almost certain that, despite the exhortations of people you know about how "good" their favorite coffee is, that you've never had true specialty coffee. That's something I'd like to help change--even if people try it and find that they prefer sweetened milk drinks, I think everyone owes it to themselves to try a pourover from an epic coffee shop. Astute is such a shop. These guys absolutely rule.

I really wanted to love this spot. Astute Coffee is absolutely beautiful inside -- clean, warm,…read morethoughtfully designed, and somewhere you actually want to linger. The branding and overall vibe feel intentional, and I genuinely appreciate their mission and what they're trying to build in Omaha. That part really stands out. That said, the coffee itself didn't quite hit for me. I ordered a seasonal latte and was excited for something distinctive, but the flavor felt pretty muted. It tasted more like a standard latte than something seasonal or layered. Not bad by any means -- just not memorable. I'd still come back to try something else because the space and concept are strong. I just hope the drinks lean a little more bold next time.
