At some point he gave us some early 2000's rap and we lost it. The last song he played was an early 90s classic and he even got on the dance floor with us. I kept saying, okay once he starts playing music I don't jive with as much, I'll leave and call it an early night. But that never happened! A place to go with friends where we can still hear each other talk, have drinks and of course listen to Jazz. Orlando has so many genres or music and experiences, however, Jazz was a missing piece. We came early and were greeted by the venue manager who was amazing. He explained that each table has a QR Code where you can order a Pizza from the new pizza place downstairs that replaced the Robinson Coffee shop. This really came in handy as we got lost in the vibe, were hungry but didn't want to leave. The pizza was a super thin crust, quality pepperoni, and just overall really hit the spot. For drinks, they have a happy hour Thursday - Sunday from 7pm-10pm with half off all of their cocktails. My choice was the Tequila Mockingbird, a playful play on words for the book "To Kill A Mockingbird". It's Tequila, Aperol, Passionfruit, Lemon and Vanilla. Incredibly tasty and dangerous because it goes down so easy. We had an amazing evening with friends, talking, laughing and celebrating my husband for his birthday. The live Jazz starts at 10pm and they close at 1am, which is great because I don't want to be downtown when all of the other bars and venues are closing anyways. I'm really happy The Phoenix Jazz Club is an option for night life and look forward to coming back in the future.

I went on a Saturday night, but the experience was very different from what I expected. The music was more in the style of 1920s/1930s traditional jazz--slower, classic, and more suited as background ambiance rather than something you'd sing or dance along to. It wasn't the modern, upbeat, or R&B-infused jazz vibe I had anticipated, so for me, it fell flat in terms of energy. The aesthetic, though, is stunning. The space feels like a speakeasy, complete with a hidden bookshelf entrance, and the decor is unique and perfect for Instagrammable moments. It's definitely a place where you could get some amazing photos, and I'd honestly consider coming back during the day for a shoot. Service-wise, my experience was mixed. We waited at the bar for a while with no acknowledgment from the male bartender, even as he poured drinks right in front of us. It wasn't until we moved to the other side where the female bartender immediately greeted us and kindly said she'd be right with us. I really appreciated her hospitality, but it did leave a sour taste that we were ignored at first. Overall, if you're looking for a lively night out with interactive music you can vibe with, this may not be the spot. But if you enjoy classic 1920s jazz in a beautifully designed space--or if you're looking for a unique backdrop for photos--then Phoenix Jazz Club might be worth checking out.

I wouldn't recommend section C - they had those tall metal chairs that look uncomfortable in that section. I honestly wish I'd got section A, but those shows sell out so quickly that it seems harder to snag those. The sound was amazing & the band was really talented. The look/vibe is really great too! The doors don't open till right before showtime, but there's covered tables & chairs to sit & wait. Parking was a bit tight. The doormen were very fast & efficient. Everyone was friendly too! Overall I really like The Abbey & am going back again in a few weeks, Oh - pro tip - there's an absolutely OUTSTANDING sushi restaurant around the corner & they were very accommodating when we said we were in a hurry to get to the show on time. I got the…read morechance to attend a poetry play here this past weekend on a date night in support of a fellow peer - who was performing. And my oh my, what a show it was and what a little local gem this truly is! On arrival, parking was a tad confusing as it is behind the school in the neighborhood it is located in. However, there is park parking - which is ultimately where we parked. It is in a residential neighborhood and can be a bit hard to catch if you are not paying attention to the building numbers. But we found our way nonetheless. Once parked, we walked down Timucua Arts and were immediately transported into this mini eclectic oasis. The pathway is adorned with beautiful plants and flowers decorated with little knick-knacks and garden decor. There's also a seating area with a table off to the right just before you enter. Once we entered, we were immediately greeted by the hosts, given our program, and directed into the main theatre space. We found our seats and waited for the show to start. The theatre has this awesome wooden pitched ceiling (roof) that carries the sound throughout the space very well. There is also a spiral staircase that climbs up two additional levels where additional seating can be found. After a quick wait time, the play/performance began, and we were fully engulfed in the wonders of "Into the Eye: A Sacred Storm." The performance was OUTSTANDING! Bravo to all! I am so happy we attended this performance because not only did we get to support local talent, but we also got to support a local business like Timucua! What a wonderful evening it turned out to be. I am looking forward to future shows and events here!
