My daughter requested her birthday dinner here, rude waitress got miffed because I asked for my pork well done (the pork is usually very pink* here although fully cooked) my request was simple and I told her I'd requested it that way 10 times before with no problem, she still insisted on asking the cook, came back saying "We'll try" what do you mean you'll try? I'm telling her I don't want my pork pink and to fry it longer the way they always do* she ruined my daughters birthday instead of just providing a basic request, which the cooks have no problem with! She was rude & initially going back and forth on how they cook food there. Never going back. Staff needs to check how they treat customers. I would love the owner to reach out.
Back AGAIN because we're obsessed. MATCHA YUZU ADE: 4/5. A little sweet, but super refreshing. DONKATSU: 5/5. Just look at it. Tender, juicy, deep-fried perfection. CUCUMBER SALAD: 3/5. Acidic, almost too vinegar-forward. There were moments that the sesame oil cut through, which was pleasant.
A few days ago, we decided to try a new place. We usually go to a katsu restaurant, but this was our first time visiting this one. It was clean, and the menu had a good variety. The interior was neat and modern, and even the dishes looked nicer. The food we ordered was good and had a clean, well-balanced taste. There were both outdoor and indoor tables. It seemed like there was only one server, so they looked very busy, and I felt a bit bad asking for anything.
Everything was pretty average overall. We tried the omurice and the tonkatsu meal. The omurice was okay, but the curry wasn't the typical Japanese style curry I was expecting, instead it had a strong tomato flavor. For the tonkatsu meal, the katsu was soft on the bottom even though we dined in, so it really shouldn't have been soggy. The katsu itself was just alright and not very juicy. The interior is simple, and there's an ordering device at each table so you can place your order yourself, which was convenient. The food came out relatively fast. One downside was that they had the door open, so it didn't feel like there was strong AC inside. Overall, it was just an average experience, and I probably wouldn't come back.
Small family owned katsu restaurant in Whittier. Heard about this place and have been meaning to stop by for 7 months now. Was a bit of a drive but don't regret the trip. Just wish I could have come sooner. Inside, both bar and table seatings are available. Also, option for outdoor dining if desired (believe there were two tables outdoors). You order at the table using an iPad which I felt was more convenient as you can take the time to look through the menu and decide at your pace. Ordered the omurice (my favorite) and we also tried the hire katsu meal. The omurice was fantastic just the way my mom use to make it growing up. Fried rice on the inside (but not too dry) with a generous egg sheet wrapped over it making it into what I would describe as a softball. Growing up, we used to put ketchup on the outside but most of the restaurants that make this dish now often use curry (Japanese way). At Lucky pig, however it was a ketchup flavored sauce which was phenomenal and brought me back to the 90s when I was sitting in my mom's kitchen. It was so good. You have to try this. We also ordered the Katsu meal. Now this Katsu was perfectly breaded with a crispy shell. Inside they use lean pork and cooked to perfection. They also serve it with a green chili on side which was phenomenal. This place a gem and a must try.

I have a constant craving for cabbage salad and when I found out that Lucky Pig not only perfect the cabbage salad but helped elevate each dish, I was in love. I immediately landed on the cheese Katu and omurice. It was to my surprised that when everything came out, your meal was presented in such a way that was pleasing to the eye and flavorful and dare i say just as good as being in Japan? I would def recommend Lucky Pig to all the katsu lovers, the menu is small and perfected and never misses.

Since I was in the area, I decided to patronize the shop this weekend. Credit Card: They're accepted. Restroom: It's available Location/Parking: Located at the Whittwood Town Center. Shared parking is available in the center. Ambiance/Decor: Neat little shop with with modern furnishings to sit and eat on. They also have couple of tables outside of the shop. Depending on the time you go, please dress accordingly. It can be cold at night. Order Of Operations 1) Get seated 2) Order through the tablet 3) Wait for your food to come and start eating. 4) Last, pay for your meal with a staffer. Service: Overall, service was decent. The staffers were friendly and offered some great insight on the food items that I was curious about. Food Of Choice: Curry Hire Katsu: It came two hire and 1 katsu ball. Thought the dish was good. Please note that the katsu ball is slightly pink inside, but totally safe to eat. It's due to the way it is being cooked using a precise low-temperature, extended-frying method. It is cooked gently to a safe internal temperature around 140 to 150 degrees. The myoglobin is the source of the pink or red color in meat. Mmmmmm... Japanse curry burps! Lucky Pig For Thought: Wouldn't mind coming back to try their other items on the menu.
Tried this place with my fiancé for date night and it was such a pleasant surprise! Lucky Pig. It's a small but cozy atmosphere. We ordered the tonkatsu set and it was so good. The dish was crispy and light, and the pork was juicy, not dry at all. The egg dipping sauce really elevated it. We also got the omurice, which was flavorful and comforting, and the gravy was delicious. Overall, really good experience. Would definitely recommend, and we would definitely come back.

I found this place after looking for an omurice restaurant nearby my area. It's a small restaurant with enough seating for dine in. We were promptly seated and placed our order on the tablet at the table. The food came out relatively fast. Presentation was good and the food was tasty. However, the egg was different one than what I was expecting. Because the way it was cooked, it came out not as runny; however, it still tasted good with the sauce and the fried rice. The pork katsu was yummy dipped in the katsu sauce and goes well with the pickled peppers.

We arrived right before their break time, but the staff kindly helped us place a to-go order, and we enjoyed it right away at the outdoor tables in front of the restaurant. Since it's located inside a safe shopping center, it was such a pleasant place to sit outside and enjoy our meal. The staff are always friendly, and the food is consistently amazing. I've been to many katsu restaurants, but this one stands out--the food feels fresh, the oil tastes clean, and everything is incredibly delicious. They never disappoint me no matter how many times I visit. If I could give them 10 out of 10, I absolutely would. Highly recommended! read more

I've been here multiple times and every single menu item I've tried has been delicious Today I had the shrimp katsu and it was amazing! The kitchen is open, so you can really tell how clean and well-maintained everything is, which made me trust the place even more. The fried food tastes super fresh and crispy too. This place is SOOO good. It falls on the top 3 of my fave katsu places ever. I got the Kare Katsu and it was very juicy and full of good flavor. I never really go for pork katsu but I would say this is the best I've had. Perfect portions and they were generous with the salad. My friend ordered the omurice and I would've ordered this if there wasn't katsu on the menu. I am obsessed. Need to get this when I return. read more
Lucky Pig is a funny name for this place, because it's not so lucky for the pig that the chefs can turn them into something so delicious! Though Korean-owned, this place serves Japanese-style tonkatsu, which really gives us the best of both worlds. Their katsu set meals include a thick slab of breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet served on top of a wire grate (so the bottom doesn't get soggy), along with miso soup, rice, kizami wasabi (the REAL stuff), and a metric ton of shredded cabbage. The "don katsu" is fattier than the "hire katsu," but the hire katsu comes from the tenderloin so it's leaner and meatier. Up to you which you prefer, but I prefer the don katsu. Note that the don katsu is sliced into strips whereas the hire katsu is served as three individual medallions. Both are roughly the same amount of food, with the hire katsu being around $1 more in price. For something extra-luxurious, if available, you can add an onsen tamago (Japanese soft-boiled egg) for a few extra bucks, which can be used as an alternative dipping sauce or, as I like to do it, put it directly on rice and eat it (meat, rice, egg) all together. We've tried the omurice once and have no notes. It's good, but we definitely come here for the tonkatsu these days. Lastly, their yuzu panna cotta is worth getting! We don't always go for dessert, but we do love a cold dessert with bright citrus flavors to finish off such a heavy meal. read more
A delicious Korean katsu restaurant! Their main entrees are katsu/curry/omurice. They also have other Korean dishes like udon, bibim noodles, and tteokbokki that I would be curious to try next time. The service is very friendly and welcoming. They checked in on us often and offered extra salad dressing without us having to request it. 5/5 - Curry katsu, really interesting that they put finely chopped mushrooms in the sauce! You can't taste them so don't be worried if you don't lik them. The portion is large and sauce was really good with the kstsu. 4/5 - Omurice, the tomato sauce was too punchy. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce but the meatball and omelette were really good! 5/5 - Cabbage salad, thinly sliced and delicious with the toasted sesame sauce. A must have side for your katsu. 3/5 - Tamago Sando, the bread is soo soft/fluffy and they put in a lot of egg filling! But the mayo base flavoring is too sweet for my personal preference, I didn't like this as much. read more

This has quickly become my new favorite spot for curry and katsu! The restaurant is on the smaller side, but it feels incredibly cozy and welcoming. The flavors immediately reminded me of the meals I had in Japan--comforting, authentic, and thoughtfully prepared. I ordered the Hire Katsu, onsen tamago, and the yuzu panna cotta for dessert. Everything was delicious. The katsu was fried to absolute perfection with a crisp exterior and tender interior, and the curry was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The yuzu panna cotta was a standout; the panna cotta was silky and creamy, and the bright yuzu on top added the perfect refreshing touch. I would definitely add this place to my list of go-to spots and can't wait to come back. read more

Visited on 11/11/25 Cheese Katsu ($18) - 8/10: Super yummy! It comes with curry, rice, pork katsu meatball, and egg. I just wish there was a bit more katsu, but overall it was still a satisfying and comforting meal. Matcha Yuzu-ade ($5) - 9/10: Refreshing and unique! It was the perfect balance of earthy matcha and citrusy yuzu. Definitely something I'll be craving again. My favorite item of the visit! Omurice ($13) - 6/10: The sauce was a bit too acidic and overpowering, and the omurice itself was a little lackluster compared to what I'm used to. The dining space was adorable! I'm a huge fan of cute things, so I absolutely loved all the little pig-themed decorations. The attention to detail made the atmosphere really fun and cozy without feeling overdone. Even the bathroom was clean and nicely kept! The servers were super friendly and attentive, and I felt really well taken care of throughout my visit. While I genuinely enjoyed my meal, I do wish the portions were a bit bigger, especially given the slightly higher prices. Still, overall a lovely spot with great vibes! read more
5/3/26 - I've been here a couple times before over a year ago but this is my first time reviewing. We came at the beginning of dinner time on a weekday and were seated immediately. In the past I remember ordering with the server but now you order through a tablet on the table. I ordered the Cheese Katsu meal. The katsu is filled with monterey jack cheese and lined with a thin pork loin. The meal also comes with a shredded cabbage salad with sesame dressing, miso soup, rice, and a side of katsu sauce. It's a good portion of food and very filling. My sister doesn't eat pork and we thought she would only be able to order the udon or the ebi (shrimp) katsu but we were pleasantly surprised to find they now have a sasami (chicken) katsu option. I find that most Asian food places in Whittier tend to not actually be good despite people rating them to be. However Lucky Pig is one of the few Asian food places in the city that actually has good food and is accurate to their ratings. read more
I went to lucky pig for the first time after a friend took me and it was pretty solid. I ordered the cheese katsu and it came with a salad, miso soup, curry salt powder, katsu sauce, and a bowl of rice. The reason why I rated it 4/5 stars was because it came with this yuzu thing on top of the cheese katsu and if i'm gonna be honest, I wasn't really a fan of that. But the katsu itself was pretty tender and juicy. The service was pretty good, the workers were very consistent in making sure that we were content with our meal, and they worked pretty quickly. The restaurant itself was clean and was super homey. I was definitely come back again! read more
Omg what is this hidden treasure box of true Japanese food in the middle of Whittier? As someone who's been to Japan and absolutely loved the food, it brought me back! Absolutely loved! The tamago sando was just like the 7-11 version albeit more expensive) the katsu plate was amazing.it was so crispy and fresh! Cabbage salad so finely shredded with a delicious tangy dressing. A little rice, some seasoned salt, soup with a little tofu a dipping sauce and grated pepper rounds out the plate. Literally all of it tasted so good together. Not shown was my order of cucumber that was crunchy and cool. This was an unexpectedly tasty meal that is going to keep me coming back! Came here on a Saturday around opening with a family of 5. == FOOD == We actually ordered a lot of food and shared it all, family-style. We got the egg sando, katsu sando, ebi curry, 2 onsen eggs, cheese cutlet meal, a katsu don, and the cucumber side dish. I can say my favorite was the onsen egg, because it had some truffle flavors. I added some rice and mixed it and it was delicious!!! == SERVICE == We came a bit early, around 4 min before opening, but the waitress still seated us. She told us it was a self-service order on the tablet. It was very easy to order and she always came by asking if we wanted more water or needed anything else. == AMBIANCE == Can I just say, the bathroom looks really nice. Of course the restaurant itself is nice too. There were lots of seating, both tables and at the bar stools. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for months and it did not disappoint. Came in on a Wednesday night, all tables were full but got some very comfortable seating at the bar right away. You self-order on the kiosk. Ordered the tonkatsu, curry tonkatsu, & omurice, total came out to $52. Food came out in 15-18 minutes, and everything was great. It's definitely the best katsu I've had yet. Everything was flavorful and delicious. Service was quick and attentive throughout the experience. The location itself is very bright and relaxing. I hope to see them open for extended hours, they were very busy for a Wednesday night read more
My Grading scale: 1-2 star - Avoid 3 - Everything in my meal was average 4 - Most things were average, 1 or 2 things were above average, if you're local to it then I'd recommend to go there. 5 - Everything was great, go out of your way for it. I ordered the Curry Ton Katsu and Cucumber Salad The cucumber salad was pretty good, it had nice flavor and every piece tasted fresh. The quantity of this was good as well, I would recommend to get this. The Curry Ton Katsu overall was an okay plate. I wish the Curry itself was a bit hotter but the flavor was good. The Katsu itself was just okay, the breading lacked the crunch and overal tasted pretty dry and flavorless, but thankfully the curry made of for the lack of flavor. The Rice and Egg both tasted great, no complaints. The ambiance is really casual with very friendly staff, my whole meal was $28 before tip. Overall, everything was pretty average and it is not cheap. I don't see myself making another visit unfortunately. read more

Lucky Pig in Whittier is a small restaurant, from outside it looks like a hidden gem for anyone who loves Japanese fried pork cutlets, but it's not hidden anymore, it's always a line outside during lunch/dinner hours. Although the chef comes from a Korean background, the restaurant delivers some of the best, most authentic tasting Japanese katsu around, with the bonus of some Korean dishes that add variety to the menu. We ordered the Tonkatsu (pork loin katsu), and it was excellent. The cutlet had a strong, meaty flavor, neither overly juicy nor dry, balanced perfectly with its light, crispy coating. The set included rice, miso soup, shredded cabbage salad, and a tangy yuzu chili dipping sauce, which really elevated the experience. The Omurice was another standout. The soft, liquid style egg draped over rice and topped with a savory meat sauce was comforting and delicious. We also tried a few Korean inspired dishes, including the kimchi pancake and buta kimchi bibim udon. While they were tasty, they didn't shine quite as brightly as the katsu. Despite being packed during weekend lunch hours, the service was attentive, and we appreciated the complimentary cold cucumber starter, which was refreshing and set a nice tone for the meal. After seeing comments on TikTok saying this place was slept on i decided I wanted to try it. And I'm so glad I have faith in random people because I was not disappointed! I enjoyed almost every dish. The kimchi buta bibim udon was so flavorful, creamy and the perfect flavor of kimchi that wasn't overpowering. The Ebi katsu was so plump n crispy. The Hire katsu was perfectly cooked still juicy with a nice outter crunch. I loved the green chili they gave along with the katsu, I had to ask for more bc I liked it so much, I've never had that anywhere else!! The Matcha Yuzu-ace was carbonated so it was extra refreshing. The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the Omurice. The sauce was a little too acidic and a strong on the tomato base for my liking, and the egg wasn't as wet as I'd liked. My friends and I came here on a Sunday afternoon and decided to order family style so we could try a little bit of everything. We started with the katsu ball, which was basically a meatball rolled in crispy panko. It came with a homemade tomato sauce that was absolutely delicious and honestly one of my favorite bites of the day. We also got the Ebi (shrimp) katsu, which was light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. For mains, we ordered the katsu don, the butta kimchi bibim udon, and added an extra onsen egg for the udon (not realizing it already came with one). The tteok-boki was unique, the fish cake that came with it was fried strips instead of simmered in the sauce. The udon was rich, flavorful, and had a nice kick from the kimchi. The katsu don was our least favorite, not because of the flavor or meat, which were both solid, but because the rice ended up a bit too soggy from being over sauced. For drinks, we all tried the matcha yuzuade. It is matcha with yuzu and sprite, and it was so refreshing, sweet, citrusy, and a perfect balance with the food. Parking was ample with a free lot shared with other businesses, which made it really convenient. The ambiance had a cute mom and pop feel with touches of modern décor, making it comfortable but still stylish. Service was exceptional, attentive, friendly, and made us feel very well taken care of the whole time. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal here. Some dishes stood out more than others, but the flavors were bold and unique. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu. read more

Lucky Pig is on the top of my list for katsu, I've been meaning to come back but I'm never in the area. The price has definitely gone up since the last time I visited, but the quality is still great. Food****// seriously good compares to other places I tried, its juicy and coating is just the right thickness and fluffy. We ordered curry but portion is small for $5 so watch for it Service***//okay service they brought water after I tried to get it myself. The lady serves plates in different directions then try to turn it every time which is confusing but overall was ok experience Ambiance****// clean, cozy with lots of natural colors which reminds you the small shops in Japan. I lucked up on this place. I was in the Neighborhood and wanted something new. So here we go... I ordered the sasami katsu, cucumber salad and a Coke Zero. The food was cooked to order and was plentiful. I could only eat half of the order. The cucumber salad was so good and there was a lot of it for $5. Me and my wife could eat the sasami katsu. 4 large pieces of chicken, a Cole slaw type salad and soup. The server was very attentive and she came around about 5x during my time there to inquire about my experience and to refill my water. Great experience!! read more
