I've only tried them through Grubhub & was very impressed with their packaging of all items. The bubble tea came in this great cup with a punch card & in its own bag. I would not get it again though. The boba is hard. I'll stick to a boba place for this. The side of bbq chicken was generous. It was tender & juicy. Super impressed & appreciate being able to try more proteins in a smaller portion. Well priced as well! The musubis were huge! More rice an anything but they were soft & flavorful. Nice soy based sauce with it. The Gravy Fries were ordered with the gravy on the side just incase they don't already package them like that. The fries are basic, most likely frozen fries but the gravy is flavorful with a tiny kick to it!. Wow. It ain't fancy, and even the menu is not particularly beguiling, but the basic descriptions you read on it turn out to be amazing food. We stopped in for a snack. Hah! Baby K got sugar donuts. Simple, right, and small? I figured 3 or 4. Nope, a dozen or so, big ones (well, like big donut holes) filling up a large takeout box. She maybe ate half, loved them. Big puffy things, hot, soft, sugary. We'll have the rest for breakfast. I have a buddy who grew up in Hawaii and has told me about the food; when poke places started opening in town I would have some, and grab him spam musubi. They were good, maybe 1x2 inches, succulent and tasty. When I saw it on the menu here I had to have it, and they have katsu and Hawaiian BBQ ones so I had one of each. And each was about 2x3, and thick. Three was a meal, essentially. Loads of rice, yards of seaweed, and lots of tender flavorful meats in each. The katsu was big and crispy. Yum. The BBQ chicken was tender, a little sweet, so good. And the spam was huge, soft, salty, with a little sauce, amazing. Service was friendly and efficient. The wait wasn't long (we ordered at the counter; again, dropping in for a "snack" that turned into a meal.) They do a steady carryout business. With their big menu full of stuff I want to try, we will be back. Oh, and a cooler full of a few pops and a ton of Hawaiian juices. Most are passionfruit mixed with something. I've had Ohana and wanted to try this spot for comparison! It's also called #1 Hawaiian. They opened in the same spot Thai 2 Go used to be in. They've got about the same options as Ohana, except a few variations, like the Mochiko chicken. I decided to do a half and half with the Mochiko and the teriyaki chicken. It also comes with sauce on the side! I also added seaweed salad to add some greenery to my meal. Delicious food! It was a lot and lasted me a couple days. A lot of rice! Used to be Thai 2 Go and replaced into #1 Hawaiian BBQ. Personally, I am not quite familiar with Hawaiian food and get excited to explore. The store is tidy and small, however, able to fit a couple table for dine in. The menu have a variety of appetizers, Musubi, combo plate, and more... If you get the combo plate, you can select with mini or regular size. It also come with a side of macaroni salad and rice. I got the BBQ Mix combo plate, which have BBQ beef, short rib and chicken. I love the chicken they most as it is super juicy and tender. The beef and short rib is slightly dry. The side of macaroni salad is also my favorite as well. I also try Musubi for the first time. I do like this combination of spam, seaweed and rice, along with the sauce which is slightly sweet. read more

Excellent food! Everything was so tasty! I did not grow up in Hawaii, but I did grow up eating spam, so that was nostalgic. I ordered the bbq bento specifically because I saw the spam on there with a variety of other meats. The we ordered a spam musubi, too, for an authentic Hawaiian experience. The bbq beef and chicken were both tender and tasty. The fried mahi mahi fish was perfect with the tartar sauce. I also tried a bite of my husband's order: the loco moco with egg. A bed of rice, hamburger, gravy, with fried egg on top. Sounds odd, actually IS kind of odd, but also an oddly satisfying combination. Each meal comes with a macaroni salad and a sweet soy sauce for your rice. And what a nice surprise to find out that Friday through Sunday each meal comes with a sugar donut. A nice touch. It is an unassuming restaurant. I've been frequenting this restaurant for over 1 year now and it has provided consistently great quality chicken teriyaki, spam misubis, boba teas and also I love the spicy popcorn chicken that is on the menu - it is SO delish at medium heat level, not oily, not powdered overtly such that it is messy when eating but with a perfect CRUNCH! Only reason for the mark down in stars is that I wish the ratios on the combo plates included less rice and cabbage and more of the meat. But the food itself is delicious of what you do get! Service is always prompt and accurate. I always take to go and things are properly packed to not spill. Solid overall. read more

Looking for a place that has spam masubi and found #1 Hawaiian Barbecue. This is a tiny little establishment off of High Street. There are a couple tables to dine in. We ate at the restaurant but it looks like many of their orders were to go. They were pretty busy while we were there. The masubi was good. I would have preferred to have thicker spam instead of the thicker rice bed but they were still yummy. The bbq chicken was delicious as well, and they give you a lot of food. We ordered the mini meals and still had leftovers to enjoy the next day. This is definitely a place to go for some delicious Hawaiian barbecue. read more

I was born and raised in Hawaii, but unfortunately, I moved to Ohio a few years ago. One of the items I've missed most about home is the food. So I could literally not contain my excitement when I heard about this place opening up. The menu is very much like an L&L Hawaiian Barbeque, which is super awesome! We ordered the chicken katsu plate regular size, which was served like I'm used to with two scoops of rice and one scoop of mac salad. I was so stoked to see that they served the same katsu sauce as the L&L I frequented back home! We also ordered the curry katsu plate regular size, which my boyfriend said "smacked." Additionally, we ordered the loco moco plate and some spam musubis. All in all, the food was very nostalgic of the plate lunches in Hawaii. I was so excited to try Hawaiian Barbecue, but sadly it was pretty disappointing :( We ordered the BBQ Beef plate and Mochiko Chicken, never having either. We loved the taste -- it's sweet and soft, like Filipino grilled meats -- but it was sooo so salty. The sauce it comes with is sweet and salty, complementing the flavors but impossible to eat it with because it was already so salty. As a Filipino I love rice and salt, but I had to eat a 5:1 rice to meat ratio, which I did not love. We saved over half of it for leftovers because of the unbearable salt. The macaroni salad was also not very impressive; very bland and greasy. At least it wasn't salty though. I trust the reviews and reputation of this place and would love to support a Hawaiian business, so I do plan to try again and hopefully post a more positive updated review. This little shop was the perfect stop after a tough doctors appointment. It gave me a little taste of home with its delicious yet simple Mac salad (with tuna!) and plate lunches. For $13-15, you get a lot of food! The #41 BBQ Mix Plate contained two pieces of bbq chicken, two strips of beef short ribs (kalbi), strips of bbq beef, and lots of rice on a bed of cabbage. The ginger soy dipping sauce was really good - they should marinate the bbq chicken in it! The short ribs were fatty but had a really great flavor and the meat was really tender. That's tough to find especially for the cost. The bbq meat was good as well - pretty typical teriyaki marinade that could use more garlic and green onions to make it taste like authentic Hawaiian bbq. But overall this place is really good if you're wanting a Hawaiian BBQ plate lunch! The seating area is very small - maybe 10 people max - but the customer service was really nice and they offered us more sauce and Mac salad. They have a small selection of canned/bottled drinks but no complimentary water. The employee did tell me that they decided to purchase the location so they'll be open 7 days a week soon! read more

Moved to Columbus from the west coast recently, and we realized quickly there was no hawaiian BBQ here... Until we found this place. The food is great, and I'm pretty certain its the only ACTUAL hawaiian BBQ restaurant in Columbus at this time. I would say its better than the L&L hawaiian BBQ chain we had in California. The BBQ chicken and curry katsu were both great. Portions for regular plates are very large, so come hungry and be prepared to take food home. Our plates came with flavorful hawaiian BBQ sauce and katsu sauce. They also included some free beignet type donuts for us. I often avoid places that have #1 in the restaurant name, but since they really may be the only hawaiian bbq in Columbus and they are quite good, I guess it makes sense and is truthful. Two small food related improvement suggestions: use of sticky rice instead of the drier, long grain rice. Made the musubi fall apart. This is a casual takeout place with limited dine in seating. You order at the front register with the menu on the wall. There is not a public restroom. I first have to say the food is of Hawaiian flavor and I'm used to more of a Japanese style flair on these same entrees. Spam pineapple fried rice - a bit dry and lacking flavor. I would cut the spam, onion and pineapple in smaller chunks and fry spam until a bit crispy. Needs more soy sauce/ sesame sauce something Both masubi's were good but could use a tad more sauce. Rice was a tad dry but seaweed wrapping was fresh and had a nice bite to it. Bento chicken very flavorful and moist. My favorite item. Beef very flavorful but a bit chewy. Macaroni salad was very good. I think it has maybe tuna flakes. Not sure. But I enjoyed it. Seaweed salad perfectly chilled with just the right crunch. Though there is not a waitress per se they did give us French fries and sugar coated donuts while we waited for our food. Both were very fresh and yummy and a very nice gesture. There is not a fountain mach so you have to buy bottled water or various canned Hawaiian drinks. Lots of choices to chose from but fun $2 a can. I'd probably go back if In the area. I ordered the combo platter with bbq beef and hamburger steak, specifically asking for any sauces or gravy on the side as I am a dipper. The restaurant called me and said they were out of hamburger steak, no big deal I asked for chicken katsu curry instead. When I got my order, I opened the box and noticed that I got chicken bbq instead of beef and the curry sauce was poured all over the chicken and rice. I got the kahlua pork and it was so dry, the "bbq" they provide you is so watery and not flavorful. I got the side of Hawaiian bbq chicken too and that was better. Just don't get the pork lol. Stopped by this place for lunch while traveling between Huron and Columbus. First impression was not great as my kids had to use the bathroom and we were told no restroom available. After wandering down to the Pho place to use the restroom and get half our lunch there my son and I wandered back to sample their lunch offerings. We tried the BBQ Chicken, Chicken Kastu Curry, and BBQ beef over white rice with a side of Mac salad. The half and half is a good way to go if you want to try multiple dishes. Hands down our favorite was the BBQ chicken. Katsu didn't have much in the way of curry but I actually liked the portion better without it. The sauces are tasty, the rice is bland and dry. The mac salad was ok but not memorable. Definitely the place is sparsely decorated, seems like they want you to order and get out. If you want to eat there don't drink too much! read more
