The work crew and I decided to get lunch from here yesterday, which we got as takeout. Everyone ordered a variety of different things and everyone seemed quite pleased with their options. The local group also were very excited to be getting their food, so sounds like definitely a winner to those in the know. I opted for the 2 meat and 2 side lunch. I went with the pulled pork and smoked turkey with regular bbq sauce plus collard greens and potato salad. The pork and the turkey were both rock solid. Not necessarily a ton of smoky flavor from either, but both were tender, juicy, and delicious. Unfortunately, the collards were not to my liking. I hail from western NY and I can count on one hand how many times I've had them before and only once from a true southern/soul food joint. In this instance, I found them slightly bitter with the stems still quite crunchy and the juices on the less than pleasant side. I very rarely don't finish food and I couldn't do it. However, my coworker who also got the collards said they were fantastic, so I guess it's a preference thing. The potato salad honestly wasn't my favorite either. It had like almost an acidity to it that was different and slightly interesting, but almost a little overpowering for what I normally find to be a pretty low key side (for mayo-based potato salads, anyways). This one I did finish despite it not being my all-time favorite. Overall, a pretty solid experience, especially in the meat department. Maybe I just had bad luck with the sides and need to try others next time, but that part is holding me back from this being a really solid culinary experience. read more

City BBQ has some of the best brisket you will ever have. I always end up getting the brisket sandwich with a side or two. This time around I got the brisket sandwich with collard greens. The brisket was cooked perfectly with still having a nice soft bark and amazing flavor. Service was amazing as the cashier was playful and having fun. Someone who truly enjoys talking with people and watch them struggle with all the great food options. Most City BBQ locations look similar however they stay true to the city they are located in. They go for the steel and wood look. Some locations have the smokers on the side and you can see and smell all the meat cooking. Most have local school team helmets and sport props. I love City Barbecue, let me tell you I am being dead serious when I say they have the best potato salad anywhere, it's SO GOOD! The pork and brisket were so nice and tender and had so much flavor. I'm a fan of the bushfire bbq sauce, it has a good kick to it. The banana pudding was so tasty! I came with a friend and she got the same thing and she was also raving about it. The service was amazing, the people who took my order were very nice, the wait time for the food was very good. And the place was very clean and seemed very organized. Stopped into the Powell, OH store today for lunch. Had my usual, Lolo's, fries and a Diet Dr. Pepper. Where else can I get a solid lunch for $15? Even under $20 these days. Sandwich was fantastic, pork had great smoke and char, and a very generous portion. I love plain pork, with a choice of sauces. Fries are hand cut, crispy and hot. Super friendly service staff. This is such a cool building with lots of history. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. My favorite is the 'bama chicken, but also can't go wrong with pulled pork with sweet bbq sauce, topped with cole slaw. Stopped by City BBQ for lunch. Unfortunately, didn't see a lunch menu so I went with a combo pulled pork and bbq chicken, cole slaw and potato salad. The pulled pork was moist and tasted ok. The bbq chicken was dry and really lacked taste. I had to pour bbq sauce on it to eat it. Potato salad, cole slaw, and toast were good. I think the pulled pork would have been better between two slices of bread. I should have gotten ribs instead of the chicken. A lot of food for lunch. Would not try this combo again. read more

I've been a customer here for years and hadn't been in in a while. The food is always superb whether it be the main entrées or the sides. Stopped in tonight to get dinner and was really surprised at the scant portions, most notably, the ribs. As with all things, the prices increased unbelievably were five ribs, one side and a glass of water costing over $18. However, the ribs were so small. It was a little more than a snack, rather than a dinner. Love this place, but can't in good conscience return very often if this is the value one receives. read more

Went to City BBQ today for some brisket because I've had some co-workers rave about how good it is. I had no idea what to expect but this was the best lunch ever. First off it was a super friendly and inviting place from the minute I walked in. The General Manager Kevin suggested I also try the turkey (you have to have both...he was right...wow). Ordered the six piece wings (smoked) and fries! Truly wish I would've just went to get the three dollar bacon Ater from Wendy's instead of paying almost $13. It was awful. No smoky flavor on the wings. They were cooked good though french fries were awful asked for them crispy. You wouldn't even know it and why do they only offer two sized teas? We went to City BBQ on Bethel Road on the 4th of July and it was a glorious experience. I had the turkey sandwich and it was delicious, the store was clean, but THE STAFF!! THE STAFF were all rock stars- cheerful, smart, informed, willing to help in any way! I've worked in the food industry for many years and I could see how on top of all they were. Five months into a pandemic was apparently when I REALLY needed some barbecue in my life, and City BBQ delivered. Well, I went to pick it up, but you know what I mean. The sampler had brisket, ribs, chicken and I believe pulled pork, and everything was really good. The brisket was probably my favorite. I got green beans and collard greens as my sides - the green beans were great, the collard greens would probably have been better fresh, not reheated the next day. The order also came with two mini cornbread loaves, which made for great breakfast with some butter and honey. Curbside pickup was super easy - they send texts, so you just check in with your license plate, and they'll put the bag in the trunk. The only thing that bothered me was that you don't seem to be able to tip via the app, and I didn't have cash for a tip. Making the whole transaction cashless would be super helpful. read more
