My love and I stumbled upon Lucky Grill Restaurant one Saturday afternoon after some window shopping in the 'hood. This Lucky Grill is part of a strip mall on Milwaukee Avenue (there is a second location further northwest in the city). It was pretty busy with the brunch and lunch crowd, but we received pretty good service overall (other than not getting our water glasses refilled). As you can imagine with a diner such as this, there is a sprawling menu and admittedly it took me a few minutes to make my choice. I went with the British Breakfast, a dish with two eggs (scrambled), two pieces of sausage, hash browns, American cheese, and two mini waffles. I'm not sure what was the "British" part of this breakfast (hey - American cheese!), but it was a tasty and filling meal. My love ordered a cheeseburger which came with onion rings, a cup of cole slaw, pickle and tomato, and a bowl of soup. your average breakfast place, definitely not revolutionary but still pretty good for what you pay. the vibe is like a little diner and had plenty of booths and tables to meet the need for a Sunday morning brunch. the vegetarian omelette was pretty good and had a good mix of veggies in it, it lacked a bit of flavor but with some hot sauce it's pretty decent. hash browns were kinda mushed together but the crunch on the outside was the perfect balance to the mush. the toast wasn't really toasted but it was warm and the butter on it was melted nicely. service was really good, our server was really attentive and kind, really made our experience great! read more

The bad reviews are strange to me...we had good food and good service. Restaurant is a basic diner and met our expectations of the place. It's an older business and could definitely use some updates but whatever...appeared clean and service was quick along with food to table. Would definitely come back. I had the Popeye skillet for $12. Large portion of food...skillet cooked perfectly...even eggs...and packed with ingredients. Arrived with pancakes...2 super fluffy ones. Came here for breakfast and the food and service were on point. I ordered the Lucky Grill skillet and it was just what I was looking for. A little bit of meat with sausage and bacon along with veggies. It came with a side of pancakes which was okay. The pancakes seemed to break apart more than usual when I tried to cut into it, if that makes any sense. Nonetheless, it was still good. The server we had was awesome. She was very attentive from the get go and also very funny and personable. The prices also weren't bad at all. $22 for both my hubby and I. I'm new to the neighborhood and happy to discover this gem. It's not fancy and sure the decor could be updated. Nonetheless, I feel like good food, good service and good value are hard to find nowadays so I am going a full five for this place. I was very excited to find a good old fashioned hot open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy (aka a hot brown). The serving was HUGE and the food was delish. I met a coworker here for breakfast and specifically asked for "Rosie" because I wanted to see how bad this waitress was. (Based on another's review.) Service is my hot button so I wanted to check it out. There were only two servers, Frankie and Rose, so they gave me Rose. And she must not be the same as the "Rosie" waitress who got one star because Rose was pleasant and very attentive. We ordered a variety of food. Got it quickly. Went here recently, looks like they've been in business for a long time. The food was ok. The staff is great. Our hash browns weren't browned. They were cooked but soft and limp, so I think you might need to request browned crispy hash browns. read more

Ordered online the other day. Asked for two items: a deluxe burger with fries and a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. The deluxe burger arrived without onion, as requested. It also arrived with no mayo, mustard or ketchup--no ketchup or salt for the fries either. I was out of condiments and this was really irritating. You couldn't have tossed one packet of ketchup in the bag after I paid for the food, delivery and tip? The BLT hardly had any mayo on it either, but the bacon was crisp as requested. Came here for breakfast about two weeks ago, and the food and service was great! The menu had a large (almost overwhelmingly so) variety of breakfast/lunch/dinner combinations, and if memory serves correctly, anything could be served at any time. The service was very cordial and the food arrived in an appropriate amount of time. I had an omelette, and it was delightful; the eggs were fluffy and light while the hash browns and pancakes were seasoned wonderfully. The prices were very fair as well! I love me a diner just about as much as a tablecloth restaurant , and today I was sure hoping that Lucky Grill was going to be a hot ticket. It wasn't . I ordered the Chefs Omelette with well done/ crispy ( as in brown ) hash browns . Omelette was OD'd (dry). Hash browns were cold. Server took the potatoes and asked kitchen to serve me some crispy/hot ones. What came back (see attached pic) was at least hot , (a hot mess ) but there was nothing "brown" about them . I love this place. It's a great diner!! You walk in you see ppl sitting sipping coffee in a l- shaped counter watching the cooks flip pancakes and mini wadfles. Which u can get with any order. They also have plenty of tables. The waitress had purple hair and looked like a pin up girl. Real cool looking, it fit the personality. Right when you call you receive the nastiest tone of voice from her, and the attitude is beyond disgusting. Not only did this happen once but it happens every time we call. I been to lucky grills more then I can remember. The food is decent the astmoshphere is moderate but comfortable if you are looking for a decent meal it would be here. My father has come her longer then me and he always get the chilly. The coffee is always food and fresh orange juice. The reason I have it four stars was because today wasn't as good as the other days. I had a Greek salad that had alot of onions and it was a bit to salty plus the cheese was cut in cubes then actually sprinkled on such took away the flavor. My father had the double cheese burger with fries with chicken soup that tasted over cooked. Only two serves and not alot of people but it is usually crowed on Sunday and it does have it regular guest. The price for all that was 21.50 so two full meals for a good price read more

Walking into the doors of Lucky Grill for the first time today I expected to have an at least a standard dining experience, but sadly my experience was subpar. The waitress didn't greet me, neglected my table while excitingly servicing others around me, and was very rude to me when I inquired on details concerning the bill. When I used the restroom the facilities had menstrual blood on the toilet rim and the floor. I was utterly disgusted and appalled. I expected more. Gone here a few times and never had a bad experience. The food is good, the price is right and I never leave hungry. Their Reuben sandwich does not disappoint! Parking can be a bit tricky even though they have a fairly large parking lot, but ive just learned to not go during peek hours. read more

We had an awful experience at Lucky Grill last weekend. My 13 year old son has Type 1 diabetes which requires insulin before eating any food with carbs. About 40 minutes after ordering, our food had still not arrived. I asked the server if she could at least bring out my son's toast. I explained the situation to the server that my son's blood sugar was dropping rapidly and he needed some carbs. About 5 minutes later she had still not brought out the toast. My husband asked another server, who had overheard the conversation about my son, and asked him if he could get the toast. The man replied "it's coming". My husband told him again about the situation and asked if he could at least just grab some bread or orange juice. The server replied "This isn't McDonald's". I was literally stunned that anyone in the service industry could be so cruel, uncaring, and rude. We weren't complaining that the food was taking forever (restaurant was not crowded) we were simply asking to bring bread, toast or oj to help stabilize our son's blood sugar. I had to get up myself to get my son o.j. I was heartbroken for my son that he witnessed someone who was so ignorant, rude and frankly a complete asshole about his medical condition. We left the restaurant immediately after that and I will never return. read more

I've been here four times. First three times, I was unimpressed with the waiters and how they treated me. They were, at best, seemingly disappointed at having to do a job. Then yesterday happened. I wanted to take my boyfriend out for his birthday lunch and chose this place out of convenience. We sat down, and the bus seemed irritated at the thought of getting us water. No eye contact. No smile. Just toss us our waters. A few minutes later, the waitress comes. No eye contact. No smile. "You guys ready." She stated as she looked outside into the world she so wished she could be in instead of serving us two @$$holes. Alright. Well, that seals it. We took our leave and will never return. I have never been treated with such disregard and disrespect in any food establishment. I don't know if they don't like Hispanics, if they don't like black clothes, if they don't couples, Saturdays, being servers, being alive, whatever. Fourth time is obviously not the charm. My daughter and I were headed to our appointment at No Chip Queen around the corner from this establishment. We had time left before our appointment and my daughter was hungry. Decided to eat here. It was the most UNlucky decision I made! Waitress took my order. She brought me the food in less than 10 minutes. She never came back to check in our table until she was handing me the bill. My eggs were overcooked. My hash browns were burned to a crisp. My daugther had pancakes and she barely ate it. I took a bite and understood why.
