A secret I'm assuming breakfast spot that's been here for over 60 years is what we got to enjoy this afternoon! In my quest to find places that still sell biscuits and gravy within the city this place meets the mark! Delicious, basic, and affordable. I can't count the number of times I've gone in the places that don't sell biscuits and gravy anymore. This place is worth a stop 100%. Great booths everywhere easy street parking on Cicero but then the side streets are all permit parking so stick to the main road. Delightful server named Linda took care of us, and the general small diner feel was in full effect. One man was sitting at the small counter when we arrived, one other man was sitting in the booth, and appeared that Linda knew both of these men. Sure they don't have any fresh squeeze juices, or locally sourced coffee advertised on the menu, but for a place that's been around for over 60 years must be doing something right. And it appears whatever comes out of the kitchen is delicious. We guessed that this place is busy earlier in the day, as we arrived at noon I've got to choose which booth we wanted. And I noticed there was a second server cleaning up silverware in the back of the restaurant. I also noticed the table that she was working at was long and generous probably if you had a large group this is a spot you get to sit at. This place is great. I recommend anybody who's dining at the more chain style restaurants in the area come here for a delicious experience. read more

This is a no frills, solid breakfast spot. We've dined in and also had it delivered and both were delicious. We've gotten the biscuits and gravy, omelets, French toast, pancakes and scrambled eggs with bacon. Their bacon is always deliciously crispy. Nick and his wife are incredibly sweet and make the experience in the restaurant an even better experience with their kindness. Highly recommend this neighborhood restaurant! read more

My family loved this place. We went today for breakfast and I think from now on this will be our place to go. The ambiance is nice, homey and clean. We all ordered something different, and everything was delicious. read more

This place just amazed me, a small diner-like restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I ordered biscuits and gravy with eggs on top and sausage patties. Biscuits and gravy are usually my go to at places like this and I have got to admit, these are by far the best I've ever had. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the patties were also amazing. The pancakes? Oh my. To die for. Best pancakes I've ever had in this city. Everything just tasted like a perfectly cooked home meal on a Sunday morning. The waitress never let me run out of coffee and made sure I had everything I needed before serving me my food. Amazing service and amazing food. Give this place a chance!! You will not be disappointed. read more

Solid neighborhood cafe. A great place for breakfast. Service can be a little slow when there is only one server, and they forgot a few items like toast and more coffee and cheese on my mother-in-law's omelet but they were very apologetic and fixed everything. I would definitely go back! The breakfast sandwiches are worth a try. read more

I loved this place! If I lived in Chicago, I would go here all the time. It's my kind of diner. There are tons of regulars who seem to come in every day and know the waitress and cook well. All of the dishes were cheap, delicious and hearty. You get a lot of good for the price. I'm not saying that this is the best breakfast food I've ever had but it was good, it was affordable and it felt like home. read more

No wonder this place got near perfect ratings! I ordered the all veggie skillet with a side of bacon. Their bacon is the type of bacon served in heaven. PERFECT. Cooked to a nice perfect crisp (As I cant stand soggy fatty bacon). The veggie skillet is exactly what I envisioned. The hubby ordered biscuits and gravy with two sunny side up eggs on too. He said it was good too. Great portions. VERY nice employees. My first but most definitely not my last time to eat from here! read more

Had friends in town and their Air B&B was close by. Read the reviews and knew we had to try it. We were not disappointed! Nick was very welcoming when we came through the door. We got the big table in the back and our server was attentive and very knowledgeable. I am a big fan of breakfast and this place does it up right. They also serve very large portions so come hungry. I will definitely be back! read more

I wanted to be impressed and possibly it's just what we had. I had the Reuben which was one of the worst I've ever had- paperthin meat and very dry. Boyfriend had the eggs with gyro meat-meat didn't come out for like 5-8 min after food. Had empty drinks and waitress repeatedly walked by and didn't fill. Service could have been much better along with food. In a city full of diners will check out another next time. read more

Awesome friendly atmosphere, the owner Nick is always there to shake hands and ensure your pleased with the quality of the food and the portion on your plate. Traditional small family American diner. Great service with a friendly smile. Had the Greek skillet and a coffee for breakfast. Skillet was full of gyro meat tomatoes, potatoes, feta and topped with scrambled eggs; it was the right balance of ingredients and I did not leave hungry. I love giving these kind of places a shot. Rather support a local family than suits around a boardroom table any day! read more

This place stole my heart last year when i got the skirt steak. Thaaat is goooooood eatin. Is it the most inviting place from the outside? No. But once you go inside and sit down the waitstaff are all oncredibly friendly and attentive. The food comes fast and its always good. So I see a 4.5 star Yelp review for a coffee shop , and I'm too excited for words. I love a good coffee shop. That many positive reviews are always a good sign , right? Answer.....not so much! I really wanted to love this place. The server ( might have been the owner ) was really very nice and raved about their daily homemade soups. So with that kind of hype, I had to try a bowl of their cream of mushroom. Out came the little basket of saltines ( which unfortunately were stale. ) Then came the lukewarm soup which was about as thick as wallpaper paste. The owner agreed that it was "off" and took It back. While waiting for my club sandwich, I decided to hit the men's room. Guess what? No heat in the bathroom and no paper towel on the roll to wipe your hands! The club sandwich was ok . The coffee was alright . Best thing were the crispy fries. But this guy needs more than crispy fries to give a 4.5 star rating ! It's a congenial neighborhood place that everyone wants in their neck of the woods . I get that everyone has their own idea about quality, but as far as I'm concerned , Nick's Hi Ho is nowhere close a 4.5 star Yelp rating. read more
