This place has got to be one of the most wasteful restaurants on the planet. Just like another reviewer, I had high hopes for this place as it had great reviews and the fact that it was near public transit (assuming it gets high foot traffic). We went here after our flight landed in Chicago - instant regret. I ordered the chicken gyro, which, for some odd reason came with a quarter of white onion chunks, a whole Roma tomato, lots of lettuce, and a whole vat of tzatziki sauce. I requested feta, as that is pretty typical in a chicken gyro. I was told it would be an extra cost, to which I agreed. Yet imagine my surprise when I received not one, not two, but three entire sticks of whole feta. Not crumbled on top of my pita like I was expecting. Additionally these three blocks of feta ended up being $5. That's on me. If I had known to check the menu for whole feta sticks, I would have known better. Aside from that, the pita was almost completely inedible, as it was just coated and lathered in the tzatziki sauce. It came to me on a flat pita, completely impossible to pick up. I ended up requesting just a plain side pita to just construct my own. Wayyyy too much stuff wasted on one pita. Cook could have made a whole second pita from the very mid ingredients - would have made it more worth the price and excessive amount of feta. The side pita was reasonably priced. Just like the other hopeful reviewer, our fries were overcooked and practically hollow. Additionally, we each got a "side of fries" and that was practically a BASKET of fries. So...two baskets of too many overcooked fries. Another waste. I wanted to do more than pay and leave, but God did we have a rough flight. Was not expecting to be so disappointed upon stepping into what seems like a "Mom 'n Pop" kinda place. Jefferson Park Grill has been here as long as I can remember. It's kind of difficult to find parking as it's right in the bus turn around @ Jefferson Park. If your lucky you may find parking on the Milwaukee Ave right alongside but it's metered & very limited number of spaces. I finally stopped by as there was 'A' metered spot on Milwaukee. Jefferson Park Grill has a fairly large choice of items but my heart & stomach had already decided on The hobo skillet. The Hobo Skillet has hash browns, onions, sausage, bacon, cheese & 2 eggs on top over east. Delicious cardiac city. read more

My apologies for being the bearer of bad news, but this restaurant is not a 4-star-plus establishment. This location is near an enormous and active transit hub, which led me to believe that the rating cannot be incorrect as a variety of people would have eaten here and the wisdom of the crowd would provide a good overall recommendation. The wisdom of crowds was wrong, unfortunately. Wanting some Chicago comfort food I ordered the gyro and fries. The gyro meat was burnt, hard to the bite, and not good at all. The fries were also overcooked. If the chef would have thrown away the burnt gyro meat on the front of the meat slab, I probably would have had an edible meal. The tomatoes and other produce in my meal wasn't good, kind of weird. Perhaps it was prepped a few days prior and refrigerated? Since moving to the area, I stumbled across this GEM of a "diner". Just steps away from the Jefferson Park Blue Line stop, this is definitely worth a detour on your journey to and from the city! Upon entering the owners? are extremely pleasant and professional with taking your order. No matter what time of day you choose to visit, they are eager to help and serve you. The food is "diner" style comfort foods that includes a wide variety of breakfast foods and sandwiches/burgers. Everything I have tried so far is absolutely delicious and is presented in VERY generous portions. Personally the "Hillbilly Skillet" is my absolute favorite. I'm not sure that I've had a better breakfast dish anywhere. It is PERFECT! The only thing about this place that makes me sad, is that I've very often the only or one of two people inside. A place this amazing needs to be busy! I'm terrified that they will not make it and Jefferson Park will lose this amazing place. Please visit them often and see what you're missing. The word "diner" does not capture the humble nature of this place (think plastic eating utensils and no ice water) but the service is friendly in a Chicago/Polish kind of way. As for food, do not get too adventurous with the menu, but the Polish sausage is indeed excellent, and they have a strong hand on a hot deep fryer, so the french fries, chicken tenders, and things like that will not disappoint. The owner Mike, his wife, and staff are always friendly and take pride in serving you breakfast, lunch or dinner. Today I had the Chicken Breast, fries, and drink. When I say the sandwich was huge and the portion of fries is large I'm not kidding. The chicken breast is cooked on the grill and has lettuce,tomato,onion and mayo on a bun with a pickle on the side. Very tasty and very filling. I'll put this chicken sandwich up against Popeye's any time. The gyro plate is another go to if your taste buds are saying feed me gyros today. This place is a great simple, no-frills spot to grab a quick breakfast. We stopped by Jefferson Park Grill on a Saturday morning while we were staying in the area (first time visiting). We saw the great reviews online but were surprised to step into a rather smallish but tidy little restaurant right off the Jefferson Park 'L' stop, but proceeded to order at the register (from a very sweet host) and wait at a table for our food and coffee which arrived fairly quickly and with clean, excellent quality. We each got coffee, I got eggs over medium w/ bacon (offered tender or crispy, chose crispy), and hashbrowns. My partner got the country breakfast plate (eggs, sausage patty, biscuits and gravy). My food was great -- exactly what I wanted, and I was pleasantly surprised by how un-greasy/not-oily it was compared to most breakfast places, which I really appreciated. My partner said his food was good, and he cleared his plate as well :). Coffee was fine, nothing special or fancy, but perfectly palatable and nice and hot. Chef came out to relax when no orders were pending and asked after our meal. Both he and the hostess were very kind. This is a very welcoming spot. read more

Great little diner feel right off the Jefferson Park Blue Line stop and a couple stops away from O'Hare airport. Such large portions for the cheap prices. My bf and I were looking for a quick and hearty lunch place coming from the airport, and this one seemed like a good choice based on reviews and location. Some of the dishes were hit or miss, and I'll get the misses out of the way first. We were not fans of the fries, which tasted like they were drenched in oil. The garlic bread did not taste great; the bread was fine, but the seasoning/spread on top of the bread was very strong and not appetizing. Hamburger A good hamburger. Warm, toasty, a juicy patty, and all-around inviting burger. Good job Jefferson Park Grill! Chicken Salad Oh my goodness, the freshest salad I've had in the longest time at a restaurant. With iceberg lettuce, sliced beefsteak tomatoes, cucumber, green bell peppers, goiled eggs, and a heaping load of chicken, this salad was so worth the money. The chicken was a little dry, but it was seasoned with herbs quite well. Chicken Soup (their soups are apparently amazing) The shining star of their menu selection: their soups. As some of the other reviews have alluded to, their soups are just like homemade soups that fill you up and warm your soul. This one had chicken, carrots, celery, and orzo in a chicken broth. I usually just get it delivered and it's always fresh and fast but when we were driving to Big Top for breakfast we found out they are permanently closed, we decided to head here for a sit down. Now, I ordered the Maxwell Street sausage and left generous tips, was trying to cheer her up a little. Her face expression didn't show nothing. I asked to pour me a glass of water and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds to make it lukewarm. The girl refused to do that, saying that hard plastic cup is not microwave safe... My fucking god, you kidding me??? I didn't give up easily but my god.. she was like a robot. I even explained, I need that for my sore throat.. I pass by this place everyday on my way to work and it reminds me of those dives you'd see in rough neighborhoods which always brings back fond memories of me ordering food next to crackheads and drug dealers, overhearing funny (usually very vulgar) conversations and watching the constant fights break out. Each time I walked by Jefferson Park Grill I etched into my mind that I'd eventually venture forth through that door, chatting up the patrons and possibly getting into a fight. One day after work, the time was ripe since I got off earlier. I came in around 7:00 waving to the lady smoking on the steps outside, we shared a momentary smile. As I walked in I noticed it was small, quaint space, maybe 1-2 people working the kitchen, but the cashier was nowhere to be found. I hear an "excuse me baby" and as I step aside the woman that was smoking on the steps passes by and hops up to the cash register to my surprise. Looking at the menu I got hungry for a good Philly cheese steak and a pizza puff with some OJ. The cashier was nice and worked it so that she replaced the drink that came with my pizza puff combo with the higher priced OJ without charging me extra for the OJ. She then asked me where I was going to sit and brought me my juice. I took the time to look around while I was there. There are a few wooden tables, a tv, atm, with some pictures on the wall of celebrities that I assumed visited before. The place was clean as a whistle and the only customers inside were me and another guy (who was also dressed in a suit like myself which prompted some glaring.) After waiting around 10 minutes she brought my sandwich, fries and pizza puff. To my delight this Philly steak looked freaking amazing with perfectly melted cheese blended with peppers and nicely toasted bread. It's almost as if they prepared it for a commercial shoot. The pizza puff made me ecstatic as well since it's not your typical crappy frozen puff you get at most restaurants. The puff they serve is full of meat, cheese, sauce, and bigger than the usual ones along with being cooked perfectly as well. Everything tasted great. The Philly disappointed me a bit because they didn't prepare it like a usual Philly (no mayo or anything extra, just cheese and peppers.) So it didn't have that unique Philly taste. The cashier stopped by frequently checking in and making sure everything was good with me, even bringing me ketchup and telling me I was the best dressed customer she'd ever seen (which prompted the other guy to leave in what I can only assume was a fit of jealousy.) The cook stepped out for a bit and went outside the back door to wash a bucket. Meanwhile the cashier opened the bathroom door to find a half naked crackhead doing god knows what inside there. He came out a few minutes later, starting chatting and causing a small scene with all his twitching and barely intelligible speech while trying to order a sandwich that wasn't even on the menu. Eventually he settled on an egg and sausage sandwich coupled with a coffee before he made his way to Jefferson Park station to beg for money. Fun times. Overall a good place to visit. I'd say expect a good presentation and not your usual spin on things. Good food, great prices. Don't settle for Dunkin Donuts, Mcdonalds, etc. when you can visit this place. *This place is CASH ONLY. This new grill opened up in the Jefferson Park bus terminal. I saw it in the local paper. I had the hot dog special. Two hot dogs and an order of fries. The hot dogs were good. I didn't care so much for the pickle, it was the sweeter type. The fries were good. They are your typical frozen fries. I did enjoy them. The place is clean inside and had about 7 tables. Nice little food place in Jeff Park buss terminal. They have great prices and the young lady whom takes your order is very nice. ( Mary). Tgey have everything from eggs to steak to pork chops,hot dogs,burgers ect. They will be undergoibg a face lift soon so will be closed temporarily from Aug 31st to Sept. Something. My only complaint is that when I order my eggs over easy,I want them over easy. More times than not they come over med. However its not a deal breaker because their prices and abundant portions are well worth it. All in all a great lil neighborhood stomp. read more

Perfect spot being so close to the Jefferson park blue line. The inside is clean and classic diner looking with a few photos on the wall of the old jefferson park train stop. You order by the door (cash only) and then find yourself a seat and wait. I thought they would call my order but they bring it out to you and even filled my fountain drink for me (literally never had that done for me before), talk about service! I'm pretty sure it's family run, and that the family is the nicest family ever. Food was pretty good, classic diner dishes. I ordered the 3 eggs and corned beef hash. Came with the largest side of potatoes ever. I wish I got a little more hash and less potatoes, but besides that it was amazing. They do put a decent amount of butter on their toast so if that's not your thing, be sure to ask for no butter or butter on the side when you order. read more

This place and the people who run it are gems. I work close to here and come about once if not twice a week for lunch. I am a meatloaf fanatic so I decided to try it one day. It was very salty and I did not eat it, I just ate the mashed potatoes. Unbeknownst (like that big word, dontcha?) to me, they had noticed that I didn't eat it. So the next morning my co-worker went in to pick up her breakfast and they told her to tell me to come back for lunch and it was on them. I thought that was so nice and I didn't expect it. Wow! This is what we needed in Jefferson park! Finally a place that has good food with lots of variety! And very affordable! It deserves 5 stars based on cleanliness all on its own! Friendly staff that remembers you and chats with you every time you return, like they are welcoming you into their own home. Dine in or carry out!
