Was skeptical about the place, after all, it was in the middle of no-where asian, so to speak. After having lunch there today, I would have to give it thumbs up. Having the "Shanghanese Dim Sum" around my work area, and knowing that it is done correctly is awesome. The other thing they do here is they serve fresh hand made noodles. I haven't had a chance to try this, but the people I were with said that they were goodl I would definately recommend this place.

Everyone these days seem to be down for dim sum on Sundays. So if you want to find out whether that girl you're with is actually cool, or just hoping on the dim sum bandwagon because it's popular like sushi rolls, best way to do it is to change it up and take her to a Chinese breakfast place. It's not as popular as dim sum, but just as delicious. See the size of those youtiaos?! Greasy and crispy. I honestly think they're among the best in the metro Vancouver area. If she's up for having something this heavy for breakfast, you know she can hang. You can get away with being prissy with food at the dim sum place, but not here. The warm soy milk tastes great, the baos are delicious. The noodles are solid, they won't knock you off your feet but nothing that'll leave you disappointed. It's a small restaurant, but they make the basics top notch. They don't speak Cantonese here, even though the area has a large Cantonese community. You either have to speak Mandarin or hope they can somewhat get what you want to order with a combination of English and you pointing at stuff. It's not a big place, usually they only have 1-2 servers so ordering can be trouble if you don't know what you want. They serve fast though, and service is friendly (you can tell they're trying which isn't the case at a lot of Chinese restaurants). I like these type of places more than dim sum or iHop for if you're hungover. These places tend to be less loud than dim sum joints, and you can get your food quicker. I'd give them a 5, but I'd reserve that for Ningtu on Kingsway which also excels at making their own fancy dishes for dinner along with the breakfast basics. Lucky Gate's more a great neighbourhood breakfast place to take your girl out to on a lazy morning.

Lucky Gate doesn't look all that appealing on the outside but it's pretty good. Outside looks kind of old and dirty but inside even it's old ish they keep it tidy and clean. Nice service and good food at reasonable price. Lots of options and love that they explain a little of their perspective of Chinese food and it's cultural background. Very thoughtful, educational, and interesting. Not usually crowded but do get busy thought the noon to afternoon time. Good for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No reservation needed and a few different sits. A parking lot in the front and a smaller one at the back and it's not too hard to find.

The family was craving for some chinese food for dinner. Checked out Yelp to see where the closest chinese restaurant was to our location and 2 min later we found ourselves at Lucky Gate. We ordered 4 items from the menu:. Small hot and sour soup, yeung chow fried rice, seafood and beef tendon noodle, and the house special pork dumplings. Overall, I found the food very tasty and prices to be quite reasonable. Hot and sour soup was probably one of the best ones I've had...a perfect balance of the hot chilli and vinegar with ample slices of tofu and bamboo shoots mixed in with some parsley. However, the yeung chow fried rice was a big disappointment. From what I could see, the chef only used three ingredients in the fried rice:. Eggs, spam, and shrimp. Not what you call an authentic version of this dish. The seafood and beef noodle was above average but literally you can count the number of beef tendons and shrimp in the dish. The star in the dish was definitely the noodles as it was made from scratch. We saw the chef take out a big block of dough and slicing it directly in to a pot of boiling water. The noodles had a very chewy texture to it which I really enjoyed. The dumplings were just okay. The dumpling skin was too thick for my liking but the pork and soup made up for it as it tasted pretty good with the vinegar sauce. Where this restaurant lost points was in the cleaniness. As soon as we were seated at our table I saw strands of hair all over the ripped table cloth. The restaurant also had a strong odor like what you would smell in a hockey changing room after a game. Couldn't pinpoint where the odor was coming from but it could be from one of the customers. Parking lot is small for a complex with 2 other businesses. Restaurant only accepts cash and debit. Would I come back? Likely not because of the cleanliness but might consider take out especially for the hot and sour soup.

Their beef stew and noodles horrible. The only thing worth trying is their stir fry chicken and fried fish.

Their steamed pork dumplings are delicious and of generous size. The lady owner recommended shaved noodles stir fry with lamb was excellent.

I barely come to this area but I had an appointment nearby today. Searching the restaurants nearby…read moreand this place's rating is too high that I had to give it a try. It's small but has quite many seats, the lady is very friendly. She gave me a photo album to order from which is so fun and I have never seen anything like this before and every restaurant should 10000000% do the same. I ordered the 酸辣肥肠粉 pork intestine sour spicy noodle(added an egg) and potato shreds cold stir凉拌土豆丝 Ok I have to to say, the potato dish is THE BEST i have had in canada and it is a very very high compliment from me, since I order that whenever I can. It's soooo good and I ate the whole plate in a few mins. The pork intestine noodle is so so, I wish there are more pork intestine, I had 4-5 pieces and they r quite small, the egg tho, is sooooo good, it's worth it to add one to the noodle. They also add a ton of peanuts so if u have allergies u need to tell them, they wont ask u. She also gave me a small ice jelly dessert for free in the end, it tastes so good??!!! I am so full at this point otherwise I would ask if I can eat a full portion one lol Overall I will come back!

This place is tiny, as in it can seat about 20 people, and every table had people and had piping hot food on each. Both me and my friend needed to wait a few minutes till someone left, and when we got seated, they gave us their regular menu, and later on gave us a picture book.. and if you guessed it.... everything on their menu with a separate picture. My friend ordered his bowl of spicy pork chop glass noodles in soup, and I had a dry version of spicy noodles with pork. We also ordered their deep fried tofu, deep fried chicken, and a plate of spicy cucumber. Every dish was done just right, and what I mean by that is that every hot dish seemed to be made to order, and it was confirmed when we spoke to the lady there. The spicy cucumber dish came out, and you can tell they use fresh ingredients, the cucumber, although the chili oil used was spicy, due to the freshness of the cucumber, was sweet too. The deep fried tofu had a nice hard outer deep fried shell, and yet the inside was soft and really hot, the chicken took the longest, but this was worth waiting for, with the thin deep fried batter, I don't think I have ever had chicken this hot in temperature, and it was great. Both noodle dishes were huge, and I wondered how my friend ended up eating all of his, I had to take 1/3 of mine home as it was too much. We also ordered a plum drink and a hawthorne drink and at the end was served complimentary jelly as dessert. This was a great meal and if you are in the area, I would recommend you try this place out.

I have been to Legend House several times in the past and it was decent, but it has gone down hill…read morerecently. I would say sometime after mid 2024 the quality has dropped significantly. The hot and sour soup was excessively sour, the fried rice cakes was too sweet and the Dan Dan noodles was excessively salty. The buns (Xiao Long Bao and san ji Bao) were okay but the wrapping was on the thick side. Furthermore, the ingredients don't taste fresh and dishes such as the Dan Dan noodles are missing key ingredients like cucumbers and carrots. Service is good, and there are robots as well. Price is cheap, but the taste is just not good.

For the good news: very generous portion of the thick and flavourful Sweet Corn & Chicken Soup; the wonderful surprise of biting into the dumplings and getting both the authentic taste of the pork filling and the burst of the well seasoned broth Shanghai "Xiao Long Bao" Soup Dumplings; the properly cooked with the right amount of garlic and spice Salt & Pepper Squid and; the ever reliable FR "Yang-Zhou" Style. Unfortunately, we didn't fare so well with the rest of our meal. I've always wanted to try the Dan-Dan Noodles and I even opted for the Blade-Sheared Noodles. The noodles were overdone and so soft and slimy. It also didn't help that the extremely oily peanut sauce tasted like melted store-bought peanut butter with a smattering of minced pork. It wasn't even spicy as described. We also ordered the ironically dry and plain Green Onion Beef with Black Pepper Sauce. Not sure if the sauce spilled or evaporated but the container was devoid of any liquid. If it wasn't for the wonderful baos, my revised rating would have been 2 stars. If we ever go back to Legend House, it's probably just for the dim sums otherwise I'll pass.

This place has been here since I was a kid. Glad to see it's still here and I'm visiting again…read moreafter 20+ years. All I remember was that I liked their hot and sour soup. Not really an authentic Szechuan restaurant. 30 years ago, most chinese cuisines were cooked by hong kongers or south chinese people. So, most of these dishes are going to be a southern take on it. Hot and sour soup - price is awesome. $11 enough for at least 6 bowls. Souo base is missing a bit of flavor but it is jam packed with ingredients. Drunken chicken - it was ok. Little on the salty side. Shanghainese pan fried pork buns - these were probably the worst I've had. Not made in house and not properly pan fried. No juice, super dry, no fried bottom crust. Bean curd wrapped pork dim sum - surprisingly this came out last. At least 20 min has passed. This is a steamed dish but it came out with dried edges like it was sitting on a dry heater. Taste was ok. Mapo tofu - asked for extra spicy and extra numbing. Numbing was there but nowhere near real szechuan numbing. Was not spicy at all. Sauce was more oily than saucey. The price point reflects the quality. Things are either mediocre or a complete miss. Would come again to try only the better stuff. Staff was friendly. Came to try to refill the tea way more times than normal. The iron goddess tea tastes much better than a lot of dim sum places elsewhere.
