I was so excited to try this place after reading about how friendly they were to accommodate food allergies. I am intolerant to both gluten and dairy and was super excited to try their vegan and gluten free pizzas. However, by the time I paid what started out as an innocently priced pizza ($17.50) the damage amounted to $40. I blankly stared at the numbers for a while double checking the math. It was a good pizza yes, a little soggy, yes, but ultimately flavorful. However, I was sort of confused how how accommodating my food allergies amounted to a total of $40 (including a $5 drink). While the ambiance is cute and eclectic and the cocktail was fantastic - the prices are simply not worth it on a college budget. read more

Came here last night with a friend. Wasn't too busy but hey, got sat down at the back by the men making the pizza. I was talking to my friend for a while, then the waiter FINALLY came after probably 25 minutes of talking. We both had asked him what pizza to pick, what good sides were, etc. you know. We thought he would talk about the menu a little more because it was our first time and we were excited to try it because it was our first time. Nope. He never once checked up on us. I feel like because my friend and I only got a salad and pizza to share he wouldn't want to waste his time asking us how the food was. Well, the pizza was delicious after the fact we waited 30 MORE minutes for it. The people sitting next to us got served before us even though they had just ordered. I was frustrated. I got the Norma pizza with eggplant and the arugula salad. Overall I am giving 2 stars because the pizza was amazing but the service was appalling. Waiting, waiting, waiting. No servers anywhere. The only people I saw were two men making the pizzas and a guy standing there cutting them. That's it. Took another 30 minutes for the bill to come and we actually paid at the front because our server forgot about us. Again, we were both frustrated and wanted to leave. I will not be back having a sit down meal, I hope the service improves before I think about eating out at Lucia's again. read more

We had a great lunch experience here today - the pizza was delicious and service was great! I was told that they use almond wood to supply their wood oven. It's a small spot, so there may be a wait if you don't have a reservation. Their menu is smaller for lunch, and I was told the pizzas are also bigger in size on the dinner menu. Overall, a nice place to visit, the only thing holding me back from returning is the pricing's a little high for what you get, so I'll probably go back to Jupiter's for pizza instead. read more

If I could give negative stars, I'd rate this place -5 for terrible food and service: overly salty pie, dry pasta, and a waiter with unwarranted attitude. After requesting to send back the undercooked pasta, the waiter returned to say, "and by the way, WE tasted the pasta and it was fine." First off, that information was unnecessary; secondly, why would he and the other staff taste the pasta that has been picked on already? Gross if true, but it seemed more like unprofessionalism. Don't get fooled with all the "suggestions" ether, because you'll notice that they're all higher-priced options. And why wouldn't it make sense for the waiter to suggest the more expensive food options when there is a 20% mandatory service charge even for a party of one. It's no wonder they can afford to be rude. read more

Fun surprise! Found Lucia's as we were looking for an Italian spot with gluten free options. Boy did this hit the spot! My son (GF) had delicious pasta. So good - he had 2 entrees. (Growing boy.) my husband had a delicious pizza and my daughter had the pasta with clams. Everyone was a member of the clean plate club. Good size portions, delicious flavor and great service. I was visiting from New York and went with my son and daughter-in-law as per their suggestion. As soon as you walk in you can see a grand pizza over in the rear with a cool bar you can eat at as well. Greeted by a friendly waiter who gave us some very good suggestions. Very spacious spot with great energy! We started w some fried calamari that was scrumptious along with some Rosemary fries. We shared two pies, white sausage party pie and a red, soppresatta pie with a honey drizzle! Both were as equally delicious! My girlfriend and I went here with high expectations based on the reviews and are leaving disappointed. I ordered the pasta with clams ($19) and the sauce was lackluster, leaving the dish largely flavorless. We requested parmesan cheese to help spice things up but their parm was really also not that good. Disappointed, I actually sent the dish back in favor of what my girlfriend ordered - the Bolognese pasta. This one was good but nothing to write home about. Their portion sizes are a bit small for the price, even for the half carafe of Pinot grigio. It just felt like they went cheap on ingredients and portions rendering the experience less enjoyable. The service was ok, but I will say I wasn't wowed by any means by the simple exchange of the dish (rather than comping it entirely). Would not visit again. read more

My husband ordered the linguini with clam sauce and while the quality was good (nothing exceptional) the portion was very small; lunch size for $19.00. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana special which was accompanied by sautéd spinach. It tasted like overdone eggplant mush; overpriced for $20.00. I gave this 2 stars because the arugula salad was very good and nicely presented. The waiter seemed overwhelmed with serving others, and we were in a hurry to get to the theater and so we didn't voice a complaint. It seems that most people in the restaurant ordered pizza. Best pizza I have had in Berkeley so far (and that includes Sliver). It is a Neapolitan style, with a wood-fired crust that has a bit of chewiness to it. If you have lived in San Diego, it is a lot like the Cucina Caprese food truck pizza that I bought there. I have had the pizza regina and the pizza with arugula and prosciutto, and both are excellent. Only disappointment was that when I tried to order a pizza for dinner this past Sunday, they were (according to the menu posted on the web site) out of everything. Hopefully this is a temporary condition related to the economy reopening after the pandemic. read more

This is my new favorite East Bay pizza place, and quite possibly the best pizza spot in the Bay Area. The owners are from Italy and they bring the real Italian recipes! Excellent New York style, wood fire pizza right here in the Bay. Due to COVID, I ordered delivery on DoorDash and it arrived well packaged and still quite warm. (Note: They also provide really helpful reheat instructions to ensure you still experience the great taste despite delivery delays). Soft, chewy, thin crust. Ingredients tasted really fresh. The wild arugula salad was delicious and perfectly balanced in terms of savory, sweet, and tart flavors (loved the combination of pomegranate seeds and fennel). I am very happy with Lucia. It was my husband and I's first time since the remodeling, change of ownership etc. We had lovely service from the get go (hostess and wait staff: attentive and efficient). We had the meatballs as appetizers, I had a fabulous pasta bolognese, my husband ate all his pizza margerita by himself: all very good. We were only sorry we had to rush to a movie, which prevented us from eating a dessert -for lack of time. We shall be back for dessert soon, I expect! The decor is so so, but the restaurant was wonderfully warm, and they kept the door closed to the cold outside. Very authentic Neapolitan pizza--according to my Italian husband. Since the shelter in place order, our weekly treat has been Lucia's take out every Friday. I'd been too lazy to rewarm it as they recommend until now. It's definitely worth the few extra minutes to do a quick reheat in the pan--crisps up the crust and melts the cheese. The prosciutto + rucola and spudsy pancetta are my two favorites and particularly yummy.
