I'm a sucker for good coffee shops, and this place did not disappoint. I got the black island- it has like a pandan/coconut/charcoal profile- SO GOOD. It's a really unique drink and I would highly recommend it, especially if you like pandan! The other drink featured is the Spanish Latte. The flavor is really similar to Vietnamese coffee with strong, rich flavors. I would recommend getting 50% as the full sweetness can be a bit too sweet. My boyfriend and I also shared a jalapeno and cheese croissant, and let me just put you on it now because that was DELICIOUS. There was so much melted cheese inside, the sausage was flavored well, and the croissant was flaky and had cheese baked on top of it as well. I'm in love. Overall, 10/10 place, the only thing I wish they had was bigger studying tables because the tables were a bit small for studying. It probably could fit you and your friend's computer perfectly with no additional room for books/other study materials. read more

What a nice little surprise to find inside of H-E-B! I need to make a quick run to the store and saw that. They also had this cute shop tucked inside. What are the entrances. I got my items on my way out. The space is so cute. They have merchandise and coffee beans for purchase. I love their little Polaroid wall that has all the drinks. I was stuck between two different drinks, but ultimately ended up with the black island iced latte (4/5) and the ham and cheese croissant (3/5). The ham and cheese croissant was hardy! It was packed with ham. The croissant was nice and soft, and had crunching all the right places. It's a little pricey, but nothing that turned me away. They only had one person working when I arrived but a few minutes later, and another person showed up. There was a bit of a way as they were quite busy, but I didn't mind. Good things take time! The only downside is that you actually have to park and come inside. Maybe this will just be a treat for me anytime I have to stop by this H-E-B location. Coffee is okay. The real disappointment is there is no customer satisfaction guarantee. My fiancé was really in the mood for an iced latte, but was persuaded to get a vanilla iced latte by the cashier. My fiancé doesn't like sweet drinks but was assured it wasn't "super sweet". After one sip she couldn't handle it and wanted her original order. The cashier made no attempt to rectify the recommendation and chose to charge my fiancé again... I used to work customer service for years back in college where I managed a juice bar and also a coffee shop. I always made it a point to make sure the customer was happy and wanted to come back. The drinks were fine. I was actually impressed about the espresso. Delicious. Maybe next time I'm just going to make my own concoction. The charcoal wasn't as amazing as I've been reading. And the pandan was a bit too strong. The thing that annoyed me the most was the staff. Trust me. I've heard it all about luce. I've loved the other locations. Amazing everything. I wanted to be in love with this place. But the staff kinda pissed me off. They started to get annoyed while I was asking questions about there drinks. I felt like I was being pushed to hurry. And when I tried to customize my drink there was a bit of resistance on what I could do. When presenting me the drink, they did not get my drink right. And they really did not want to remake the drink. Which I understand, but they didn't even pour my espresso shots in my drink yet.... So basically they refused to remake my milk and vanilla... Luce is the type of coffee shop that I could see myself coming to sit down & work at in the future. It is spacious and well-decorated with lots of seating upstairs. I decided to be kinda fancy and ordered the montblanc, which is "charcoal powder, cacao nib, vanilla, milk, & shots." I'm not going to pretend that I know a ton about coffee, but this one was really really good. I loved how smooth it was! Of course I also had to remove the lid for a sec to appreciate the color from the charcoal powder. My boyfriend ordered a hazelnut latte, and he thought it was about average. We shared a pecan roll while sitting at a table upstairs, and it was very fresh & went well with our drinks. Our only real complaint was the price - with our total being $16.08 (before tip), I would have expected much larger coffees. I will probably end up browsing the menu for something cheaper next time. As more of a treat, I plan to try the iced montblanc in the future! read more

This may have ruined other coffee drinks for me - the americano coffee base was so smooth, and whatever the cream part of may be the best thing I've ever tasted. I love Luce Ave Coffee Roasters, so I was really excited when I heard about this location!! Exterior: This location shares a little plaza with some other restaurants, offices, etc. The parking lot is large enough to provide plenty of parking. I like the concept of the baristas being in the middle on the 1st floor and the 2nd floor is the seating area for enjoying your coffee or studying. The ambience is very busy but not too loud, in my opinion. It's very busy as in lots of customers are coming in to order drinks. But it seemed like the majority of the people were grabbing their drinks to-go. I came here on a Saturday morning with my friends and it was pretty busy, as expected on weekend morning. We had heard about the charcoal add in some of their iced coffees, and we really wanted to try it. I saw that they also offer breakfast burritos from Tacos A Go-Go. They also offer pastries like sausage croissants, almond croissants, and a variety of muffins. We tried the Black Long Island Iced Coffee and Montblanc Iced Coffee. We're not sure how they taste hot, but I definitely recommend them iced if you generally prefer your coffees/lattes iced. Montblanc Iced Coffee (5/5): It has vanilla in it and kind of reminds me of an elevated vanilla iced latte. It was really cool seeing the charcoal mixed in there. Black Long Island Iced Coffee (4/5): It has the pandan flavor and coconut milk in there, that reminds me of a Vietnamese dessert. Sausage Croissant (3/5): It was just your standard croissant with sausage in it. It's great for a quick on-the-go breakfast. Probably a little bit pricier compared to your average sausage croissants. Heard about this trendy spot because of their Black Mamba drink. I wasn't a huge fan of it because the texture is grainy. So is their matcha drink. I've had their other signature drinks and it's just okay. I gave it another try with their Cream Americano. It's too sweet so I now add one or two espresso shots. Luce is a whole chill vibe and I'm here for it! Definitely adding to my coffee shop rotation. I ventured here on a Sunday to do class work. I knew it was going to be my day because I landed the first spot right in front of the store. The customer service was good, the guy was patient and answering my questions. I asked for recommendations, weighed my options then ended up asking him to choose for me. I can't remember what it was but it was good. There were no empty tables upstairs when I first got there, only the bar like sitting around the inside perimeter. When I landed a table, I was there for hours and hours and was very productive. And that's even as I forgot my headphones to drone out other people. The restroom was busy busy busy and that's my only complaint. Parking was ample, the space inside was industrial and inviting and the baristas there were so sweet and helpful. The barista recommended a few drinks to me and I ultimately went with their seasonal drink which was essentially a London fog with a shot of espresso. But better. She did recommend it's better hit but I decided to ice it -only because someone left the gates of hell open in Texas. Luces is a popular houston coffeeshop known for their unique black label series aka the aesthetic charcoal powder drinks! This place is great because there's 2 stories with lots of space and seating to study or get work done. Their drinks are also super delicious, high quality, and has a strong espresso flavor (note: their syrups run on the sweeter side for me). We tried the island latte which is a pandan flavored latte and has a nice coconut flavor -- overall super yummy. The spanish latte is also really strong and reminds me of Vietnamese iced coffee but I'd recommend going for 50% sugar or less. It's always crowded on weekends and I can see why people really love this place! One of my favorite Houston coffee places and will definitely be back for more! Parking is super easy as there is a huge lot with spaces but can easily get crowded as there's surrounding stores and restaurants next to it.
