This is one of the most gorgeous Vietnamese restaurants I have ever been to. Love the modern chic bright orange chairs and colorful murals. Nothing excites me more than Vietnamese cuisine that is serving items that are not just pho and spring rolls. Our attentive, fun and awesome server, Michelle, gets a special shout-out. She gave us her full attention and was patient with all of our questions. She came by often to make sure we were enjoying our food and drinks. Personally, I think we lucked out and got the best server. We tried many dishes here but here are a few that are worth mentioning. - Sizzling Filet Mignon Steak with double running eggs and pate. - Grilled Beef in Piper Lolot Leaves (beef was crazy juicy and tasty) I've been seeing the Egg Coffee trending in more upscale Vietnamese restaurants. I was excited to try it here and it's a must order. I decided not to mix the three layers and drink it as is. The egg cream on top (whipped egg yolk with sweetened condensed milk custard) did it for me. Ohhhh, how can a drink be this ridiculously yummy? As I took a first full sip, I tried savoring the taste in my mouth. Sorry boba, I think I found my new love. Coconut Ube Coffee, I'll be ordering you on my next visit. We finished our meal with two of the desserts on their menu. Their Jiggie Tofu Pudding is surprisingly refreshing. It's weird for me to describe it this way but as you eat it, it's like a burst of cool water bursting in your mouth. Yes, you definitely want to get Jiggie with it, one of the best tofu puddings I have ever had. I recommend their Boba Coffee Flan as well. The boba in both these desserts is more like a jelly texture. Whoever is in charge of the music has got it going on!!! I had to ask Siri what one of the tracks was and I've been listening to it since..."Just an Illusion" by Eve St. Jones (Ronan Remix). It got me grooving in my chair. We came on a Friday afternoon were a little weary when we walked in because the restaurant seemed a bit fancier than most Vietnamese restaurants, and none of the waiting staff were Vietnamese. We were reassured when we saw an older Vietnamese couple coming out of the kitchen. We ordered summer roll, the seafood pho and the vegetable pho. Our summer rolls came out quickly. The peanut sauce was quite sweet and the rolls were very thin. The shrimp in them was dried out and hard. The seafood pho came out next, and 5 minutes later, the vegetable. I wish they timed it so they came out together. The oyster sauce and sriracha sauce are in little covered containers to the side, with spoons to spoon them out. They didn't have sauce bowls so we used our appetizer plates. It was quite messy and honestly, probably less sanitary than using bottles. The seafood pho was a little lacking in seafood, but it tasted like pho. The vegetable pho had lots of vegetables but lacked in the spices that pho taste of. The Pho was a large portion bowl filled with a good mix of proteins - filet mignon, brisket, tendon, beef ball, and tripe. Broth was flavorful and great. 3.5 stars Lua is a newly opened contemporary Vietnamese restaurant in the new building at Festival Plaza in Edison. The decor is very nice and overall the vibe is very "clean." I loved the ambiance, but considering the hefty price tag, I thought it was just ok. The food is decent. It's nothing special. I got the bo ne, which came in a cast iron skillet and served with a Vietnamese-style baguette. The dish barely filled the pan, and it was incredibly sweet. I usually enjoy sweet food, but it made me feel kind of sick of eating it. It was also pretty pricey so I expected more. My friends (they ordered pho/bun bo hue) also didn't seem to have too much to say about their food. Overall, it was decent but I don't think it's worth it considering how expensive it was. The Food might be pricey compared to other viet restaurants around but the rice plater is a humongous portion so it's worth! However the pho doesn't taste that great, especially the broth. Bún chả Hà Nội was good. Flavor was just right and they give you a pretty good sized portion. Honestly, thank you for not serving me cold noodles. I enjoyed that very much. The Wagyu bò lá lốt was dry. Need improvement. I don't know why everything have to be "wagyu" now. However, being that it is wagyu, it was ironically... pretty dry. It was also lacking in flavor. I'm pretty sure it needed some lemon grass and additional spices. All I got was minced onion...it's not a standard meat ball by any means. Just because you use Wagyu, it does not mean that you can skip out on other Bò lá lốt ingredients. Definitely could have also benefited from diced pork fat. In the swath of businesses that have opened in this shopping plaza you'd think it couldn't get more exciting. You'd be mistaken. Right next to Kura is a sweet surprise specializing in Vietnamese fare. We ordered the bo bun hue and bo ne with bone marrow. Both were fantastic, the bo ne came out just perfect while dipping in the bread loaf. The egg, filet steak and pate all combined into a rich, velvety dipping sauce that was potent and filling. We had a slight hiccup with our bone marrow not coming out and we asked for it a couple of times. Management took care of us for the inconvenience. The bo bun hue had deep flavor with ample spice. The rice noodles had the perfect texture along with the pig feet. Highly recommend both dishes. On the side we ordered mini savory pancakes, the fried sticky rice with spicy mayo, pork floss and salmon (not pictured) and the egg coffee. The pancakes were good, the sticky rice was bomb. Found this restaurant while shopping at Hmart and it's newly opened. The ambiance is very welcoming with vibrant colors and modern design. We were a table of four and all ordered different dishes. The pork chop pho and rice was good but very salty. We also felt the pork chop was on the smaller side. My friend got the variety meat pho Lua and she enjoyed it with the exception of the oxtail which wasn't tender enough. The appetizers were much better than the main course. New and neat viet spot in the Edison area. Nice decor, great presentation, and prices weren't too much higher than other more local viet restaurants. Personal faves are the bun Cha and bo ne. Bun Cha was relatively on par to what you find in Hanoi. Bo ne was done well flavorwise, and the steak had great texture. Even the viet baguette was fresh out of the oven and fluffy. Banh cuon was ok, slightly chewier rice noodle, could have used more filling. The two noodle soups was just ok. The pho broth was lacking the beef punch- definitely a lot of quantity though. Let's start by saying the place is really nice beautifully decorated. Staff almost acts as of they don't want to be here. We were seated at a table with one set of utensils. I will have to say this is not your typical Vietnamese spot that you might be used to. It's boujee !! Prices are a bit high so check out the menu before you come. Was here on Saturday evening during the dinner rush. You have to hunt the host down to put down your name to wait for an available table. The host asked for a number to reach, and it would take 20 to 25 minutes. I requested a booth since I have a baby with me and a party of 5. Waiting outside and when that time near. The host never called my name or gave me a call. Like, what's the point of asking the customer phone number if you are never planning on reaching out. Plus, the host doesn't even go outside to call out the customer name if they are not inside. The host will look inside, and whoever is inside the host will give you the table. (The entrance was crowded by so many people waiting, so that why I just waited outside.) When I checked for an update, the host realized the mistake and tried to see what's the next available booth was. The place is very nice with decorations and it's also clean. Once seated, the waiter asked if anyone wanted to order drinks. Ordered 5 waters. It basically took about 20 mins to receive the waters. Another waiter takes the orders. The orders: S1 (Bánh Tráng Cuốn Nóng) - it's a decent portion. The veggies and herbs are fresh. The steamed rice paper is soft, easy to cut through with a chopstick. With ground pork and wood ear itself is decent. Wish they added 2 more of the pork loaf instead of just 6 slices. S3 (Bò Né) - Filet mignon is not overcooked, which is good. The suace is good, especially dipping with the bread. The bread is crispy on the outside and very soft inside. S4 (Cơm LÚA) - Very nice presentation. The pork chop is lightly marinated and nicely cooked. The egg quiche is flavorful. The dish itself is good. P1 (Phở Lúa) - The broth is average. But it has a decent amount of toppings and meat to it. (These drinks came when we're about 75% done with the meals) I saw only one person doing all the drinks orders behind the counter. D3 (Vietname Iced Milk Coffee) - it's a strong coffee, but it's not worth $7 to me. It's in a flute glass (slim glassware). You basically get about less than 8 sips. It's 75% ice in there. D5 (Sugar Cane Juice) - The glassware is a little bigger than the D3. The sugar cane is sweet, but the drink itself felt diluted with all that ice.  The service is not that great at the moment. It did take a while to hunt down someone to get the bill. Since it's a newly open restaurant. They do have a lot to learn. It's on a pricy side. I'm planning on returning to this place in a couple of months when they are well organized. There are other dishes I want to try from their menu. read more

They had their soft opening for a few weeks now, but didn't stop by as other reviews indicated the food was pricey and just average. We stopped by yesterday for it's official grand opening, figuring they probably got all their kinks out. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with what we ordered. We ordered their signature braised beef stew with rice noodle and grilled pork chop pho and crispy spring rolls as our appetizer. The braised beef was nicely cook but unfortunately it had no taste. The beef broth wasn't too bad, but wish the beef had some flavor to it. It was the same with the pork chop, it looked good from appearance but once you bite into it, it was just bland. The broth was ok, nothing to rave about. The spring rolls was alright, also a bit flavorless but the hot sauce fixed it. As for service, our waiter was nice but not very attentive. I have keep asking for things, like knife for my pork chop, water refills, etc. Again, nice guy but could be more attentive. Lua is really nice inside, but honestly, I'm there for the food, not how great it looks inside. Will probably not be heading back any time soon. read more

It's my first time trying this restaurant. I really love their food here. Their banh mi is actually very good. I like how their bread is soft and not hard to bite. The pork inside the sandwich tasted fresh. I also have to talk about their bowl of Pho noodles. It's fresh and a big portion with a lot of noodles and meat(beef). The beef tastes very tender. After reading the ratings, we decided to give this place a try. We were immediately seated after checking in. The restaurant is large and elaborately decorated, with a large tree standing off to the side and paintings on the walls. The booths and chairs are bright orange, and fancy lamps hang over the tables. The largest table can seat up to 12 people. Dark brown decorative partitions stand on medium-height walls that surround some of the tables and various Asian decorations adorn the counters. I had (D1) "Ha Not" Style Egg coffee. I was craving this because I had it in California and liked it a lot. Daughter had this with me and thought it was amazing and it reminded her of California as well. We ordered (A11) banh khot, which is Vietnamese mini savory pancakes with ground pork, shrimp, rice flour, coconut milk, onion, herbs. Daughter thought it was delicious and that it was extremely soft. She loved the coconut flavor and thought it was pretty good. I was very happy that this place serves banh khot because it's hard to find this in the East coast. We, first, had this in LA and was looking for it in NYC. This was the main reason why I came here. Daughter had the (R5) Vietnamese Shaking Beef (filet mignon) with rice. She liked it but thought the filet mignon was a little bit overdone and not as soft as she expected it to be. Hubs ordered (S4) Bun Bo Hue Spicy Beef and Pork Noodle Soup, which has beef, pork, chili oil, rice noodle and herb. He liked it but he thought it could use more blood pudding. LOL I ordered (B3) Bun Cha Gio, which is spring roll on rice vermicelli and had it without peanuts. It was pretty good. I haven't had this for a long time and was craving it. This entree did not disappoint. Hubs was also missing California and was hoping to find garlic noodles on the menu. He was disappointed because this entree is also hard to find in the East coast, which is surprising because it's easy to make. He thought this place was a little pricey compared to other local Vietnamese places, but he justified it by saying that the ambience was a little nicer. Service was good. Lua was the warm home-feeling we all needed !! My brother lives in Somerset, so he's designated Lua to be the best place to celebrate Mother's Day (a day early). We were greeted and seated in the beautiful element of modern oasis; you feel like you're entering a rainforest- perfectly designed and refreshing color scheme. We were starving**- appetizers and drinks were ordered almost telepathically; Avocado Summer Rolls, Cha Gio, Goi Cuon Chay- delicious , fresh, clean and quickly served. Coconut ube coffee and iced milk coffee; addicting!!! And sorted out our sweet tooth- so no, we didn't order dessert. Will go back to try some of those in the near future ; stay tuned. The entrées consisted of A5 wagyu pho, vegetarian pho and grilled pork chops. Every order came at a perfect time, joyfully placed on each respective plates and equally delightful!! Very delicious, upscale Vietnamese food. My husband and I came around 8 at night on a Saturday. It was a little busy with a 15 minute wait. We ordered three dishes. The wagyu pho, bo ne and the banh khot. The wagyu pho came out sizzling and still hot on the cast iron pot. As you eat the wagyu pho it doesn't get cold, but hot with the sizzling cast iron. The Bo ne is very delicious with bread as the accompaniment. The bone marrow and short rib combined w the fried egg is so delicious. The banh khot was a sharing dish made out like a little pancake with shrimp in the middle. It was cute and the taste was so flavorful. We thought we couldn't finish all three dishes but we did. The place is very hip and the interior decorating is on point. The details with the tablescape like the plate and the chopsticks are very thought of as well. read more

Incredibly delicious dinner! My husband and I plan on visiting Vietnam later this year and wanted to give Vietnamese food a try. We looked up restaurants in the area and Lau came up. We came for dinner and had a fantastic meal. Our kind and patient waiter helped us pick a variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes to try. Every dish was so flavorful, fresh and comforting. Lua is located in the new building in the HMart complex. Plenty of parking in the main complex area. The decor is gorgeous and inviting, and the food was great! We got the spring rolls (A1 cha gio), the Hanoi style grilled pork over rice vermicelli (B1), and the special combo banh mi (C1) all to share between two people. The spring rolls were amazing - crispy and flavorful with a yummy sauce. The B1 was so big the two of us that split it could not eat the banh mi after and took it home. The rice vermicelli dish was also very flavorful and the pork was tender. I honestly did not care for the banh mi. I took it home and it was left out for a bit so it might have been my mistake. Just fyi that C1 has pork rolls (it's said in the menu - kinda like deli meat style instead of the typical chunks of meat). Service was fine. Dined in on a Sunday with a 4 month old baby and the servers were so accommodating! The interior is very spacious, lots of greenery, and feels cool and trendy. The menu is quite expansive and pricier than the usual pho spots in the area but it's worth it! We got S2 and S4 and they came out beautifully with a good portion size. The meatballs in S2 are DELICIOUS. super flavorful. the variety of foods in S4 is worth trying, but I didn't really care for most of them except the broth and pork chop. I have to say, I was really excited to come here but once I looked at the menu I was slightly disappointed with how limited the options were. I thought it was going to be another one of those nice looking places that don't taste great but I was so surprised with how each dish we had had so much flavor. In the past, I had the Com Lua- the pork chop was well flavored but the shredded pork skin and egg quiche did not taste fresh to me. Great service- friendly and efficient workers.
