2 Eggs with Cheese Turkey Sausage Breakfast Sandwich

If you're from Middlesex county or New Jersey in general then you already know how much of an institution the "grease trucks" were/are. Gone from the days of an actual food truck in a parking lot, RU Hungry is now an established brick and mortar restaurant on the same site as the former lot. Come famished, with a few friends and likely drunk but then leave thoroughly satiated and with great stories and memories. The nationwide famous sandwich Fat Darrel, Fat Moon, of the ever popular Fat Beach( B*tch) you simply cannot go wrong with these all in between a roll delicacies. The nostalgia is flowing here from the original tables and bench's to the pics on the wall. Forever a Rutgers campus legend from the 1970s until present. I'm clearly biased so it's 5 stars for me! Also do not expect pork products here as it's always been strictly halal.

NEW BRUNSWICK: being alumni of Rutgers University, we still crave the famous fat sandwiches of the grease trucks. Although the trucks are long gone, RU Hungry Rutgers has a storefront to meet the needs of hungry college students and customers with a huge menu of these famous sandwiches. For those of you that do not know, a fat sandwich is a sub roll stuffed with all the ingredients. Even what you would consider a side dish is loaded into the roll! The Fat Darrell was ranked the #1 sandwich in the country in 2004 by Maxim magazine and is still a favorite over 2 decades later. It is filled with chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, french fries, and marinara sauce. There are 33 meaty sandwiches to choose from and an additional 6 as vegetarian options. The menu also includes buffalo wings, greek/mediterranean options, wraps, salads, quesadillas, cheesesteaks, breakfast sandwiches, and SO MUCH MORE! The prices are very reasonable too with most fat sandwiches being under $12, and it can fill you for 2 meals! There are a couple of dog friendly tables outside overlooking the Rutgers campus right in "The Yard" at corner of Hamilton St. and College Ave. Fun fact: Adam Richman of Man vs. Food visited RU Hungry in 2009 to try and beat the challenge of eating 5 fat sandwiches in 45 minutes. Spoiler alert, he lost. You can take the challenge too and if you win, you can create your own sandwich that will be featured on the menu, just like Darrell did.

I had the breakfast western omelette sandwich. Very reasonable price. They still serve breakfast after 12 pm. Ordered from there a couple of years ago. Had one of the fat sandwiches. It burst my stomach.

This type of spot screamed my name. Researched as part of annual summer food road trip. Appreciated that the menu had numbers on them but arrived at counter and they weren't up there, making things a bit hard to find. Ordered the Filipino which had steak, gyro, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, fries, and white sauce. Enjoyed it. It's not going to win a beauty contest by any means and every ingredient was your standard frozen vibe. But the flavors blended nicely and they were cooked well. The one feedback that I think would make this go from "cheap looking frozen products" to a bit more vibrant would be fresh cut fries. They were very soft and the sandwich was screaming for some crunch from at least one of the ingredients. Glad I got to channel my inner fat kid.

The one and only - FAT MOJO!!! - Sub with French Fries, Chicken Fingers, Mozzarella Sticks, Honey Mustard

FAT MOJO!!! Just saying it brings a smile to my face ;) Let's take it back to the grease truck days, shall we! It was 2008, freshman year. I come across the "grease trucks". Had 0 clue what they were and how large a part of RU tradition they made up. All I knew was...OMG...they have a sub called the "FAT MOJO" and it's filled to the brim with the best of fried foods: - CHICKEN FINGERS - MOZZARELLA STICKS - FRENCH FRIES - Topped with HONEY MUSTARD This is not for someone looking for a heart healthy meal kk...I mean...it was in the name..."grease trucks"... and it's probably not the best meal to eat every day BUT I think you should try it out at least once, especially if you're an RU grad in the making. There's an option for anyone...they even have salads / veggie items - none of which I've personally tried, but if the fat sandwich isn't calling to you, it doesn't mean you can't try something different. Grease trucks / RU hungry are a big part of my RU experience, they take me back to that time and who doesn't love a lil visit down memory lane...with a FAT MOJO :)

Tastes just like how I remember, just not outside. Though, they do have some of the original outdoor tables and chairs, which are a bit grimy. One fat sandwich can comfortably fill two stomachs, leaving a little room for dessert. A perfect ratio of lettuce, fries, chicken and sauciness.

They given plastic bags. Very rare in NJ since no one given bags these days

Fat SandwichNice busy sandwich place in the heart of Rutgers land. This is definitely for every one but you might find yourself in the mist of the younger crowd. Parking is all street. And not easy to find since in the middle of a small block. If you happen to go and find parking in front consider yourself lucky and blessed and at a great time. There's a lot to pick from on the big menu as you walk in. Today I got the number 1 Fat Cat and number 5 Fat Kono. The number 1 is 1. Fat Cat (The First. the Only. the Original)Double cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, French fries, and ketchup. $10.79 And the #5 5. Fat kono. Which is Cheesesteak, Mozzarella sticks, French fries, marinara sauce. $10.79. Great portion for the price. Taste good but nothing to beat about. Burgers were a little on the dry side. Fries were fresh, hot and very good. The bread was soft and good as well. Because of the location. I don't see myself getting there often because of the parking. But it be a decent place to go and try other sandwiches on the menu. Would have to take someone with me and they run in and I circle the block. Best way.

This was a fun experience. Food is made fresh to order and is affordable. There were tons of options to choose from. Many were vegetarian. You will have to wait a while to receive your food because they literally begin cooking as you order. The place is small and only a few places to sit inside. It's worth the experience.

The food was amazing!!! Was looking for a late night spot to grab something to eat and this did not disappoint at all!!!

Pretty big, but wish there was more meat instead of fries
    Aakash S.

The fat sandwiches were good, but kind of light on the meat and a lot more French fries. I used to go to the original trucks back in the early 2000's and these just weren't the same as they used to be. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious and I enjoyed it, but I wish they wouldn't included more cheesesteak (only 1 thin slice) and mozzarella sticks (only 2) compared to the originals that's used to load them up.

First, staff is super -super nice!! helpful when trying to decide what to order. Mini Me and I both chose three tacos carne asada with the smokey roja sauce. Hubby had the same but as a burrito. For the sides we had chips and guacamole and the Mexican street corn. Drink were Horchata (Obviously). Tacos and burrito were stuffed, and absolutely delish. They have a self serve salsa bar with the three salsa, the smokey roja, salsa verde and habanero. Let me just say I tried all three- fantastic heat to flavour ration and I poured the habanero on my tacos so good! in fact the smokey roja with the salsa verde is a great combination !! Seating area outside is much larger than inside, we sat inside at a table that had just become available- they do a super brisk take out business and we didn't wait very long for our food to be ready. In fact, my husband and Mini-Me - all three of us, agreed we would for sure make the drive again to have tacos here!! If you are in the area or at school near by- you have to come here at least once, to try the food. I paid for my hubby since he was not my +1 and his meal was about $16. so that in itself is very very reasonable for the amount of food you get. We were very pleased with the food, service and price point.

I "pity the fool" that gets in his way. And Mr D's is... well, it's also illegal. But it might be lots of fun. However, Mr C's is something different entirely. Something very fattening. Something very nomtastic. What to get: Fat Darrell, Fat B**ch, Fat Anything. These are the only sandwiches in America whose names are more offensive than my reviews. What else: The current most popular Yelper in NJ (or Hawaii), Louis R, has gotten here before me (that happens with sandwiches, but only with sandwiches). I'm not really into tasting Fella... fellas in general really. But I'm totally all about each to their own. I find the Grease Trucks sandwiches to be 4 out of 5 sandwiches. I've tried them from a couple of different trucks. Mr C's was the very first one I tried, years ago. This was before I knew that R U Hungry was the original (and best). I was impressed by the legacy and legend and uniqueness, but not really by the food. They were just okay. They tasted good, but not amazing. So I give them all a 4, except for R U Hungry which gets a 5 for being the first. However I don't remember which other ones I've tried... just the first time (Mr C's) and then the more recent times (R U Hungry) so those are the only two I'm reviewing. I've been to the Grease Trucks 5 times. First was to see what all the fuss was about. I went to the wrong truck, which was this one. Then I found out that in fact, of the 5 trucks, a different one is the original and best. I returned for an encore and sought out "R U Hungry?" Well yes I was. I loved it. The 3rd, 4th and 5th time I visited the Grease Trucks was to bring other people here. I think one of them may have had a Mr C's but mostly we went to R U Hungry. I may be the only person other than Louis and Avi who has ever actually eaten at Mr C's (jk). This isn't the sort of food I crave (it's very American and collegey, putting stuff like deep fried mozarella sticks and mac n cheese on subs), but it does taste good. So when I bring friends here (2 girls, 1 boy so far) they inevitably seem to really get off on it. On the sandwich I mean. Not on me. That usually comes later. So to speak. I was last here in Fall 2014 and was glad to see that even though they've forced all the trucks to move off campus, they are all still in existence and peddling their wares around Brunswick town. And Jimmy's Truck has gone one better and opened an actual store, which I ate at, and enjoyed. Would I seek them out when in Jersey? No. I'd grab Mamoun's or Ibby's Falafel, I'd try some hot dogs, I'd go down to the Jersey Shore and get some Rita's Custard. But would I enjoy one if anyone ever said "I wanna try that fat sandwich thing that Adam Richman tried in Jersey", yes of course I would. It's a novelty and it's a fun and enjoyable novelty. They're pretty cheap and they're kind of, sort of, somehow worth the hype. But I'd probably take people to R-U-H instead of here because, well... it's the original. The service is pretty good at both trucks though. So next time someone asks you for a Fat B**ch, know that they may not be confessing their love of extremely curvy women with a mean streak (or men, as the case may be), but might actually just want a sandwich from Rutgers. And if they ask for a Fat Darrell, well inform them that the better looking half of Hall & Oates (as in the one with no weird moustache) is actually not particularly overweight, not compared to the majority of America anyway. And the majority of Yelp for that matter. The trucks are strewn all over the city now. The inferior alternatives are nearby. There may now be more than 5. They may be multiplying. I have contacted the CDC about this issue. They will get back to me. Right after they are finished playing Monopoly with real money, with the FEMA people. Which will inevitably end in an all-out sausagefest. And by that I mean they'll all come down here and order a bunch of Fat sandwiches with sausages in them. Or at the very least they'll order something else and put sausages in them. Use your imagination. Or use your emoji-nation since it was just world emoji day. And we love emojis. And in that sense we are an emoji-nation. Amirite? Ruhungry? Now do you wanna know why they really call me Mr. C's?
