James came out last week and gave us an estimate and we were impressed ... smart, personable guy. We asked about whether we should have a pine tree laced or trimmed and while he could have made more money by doing it, he recommended against it. Today James came out with his crew (Michael & Cole) and got to work trimming our ~20 palm trees of varying heights with an extension pole or a ladder and even climbing. Nice hardworking guys! The most amazing thing compared to our last tree trimmers - no visible damage to our palm trees (they go on a ladder as high as they can) and as he promised, they cleaned up so nicely that you would have never known they were here. James was a great pleasure to work with. He was recommended by our neighbor when we were getting estimates for a Mexican Palm removal. James was very professional and charged a reasonable price. We could not grind the stump, but he was very flexible and accommodated our request. His clean cut took it down to about 4" of the ground, which was way lower than we expected. I had a number of guys come out to give estimates on trimming 11 palms, a Chinese elm and an ash tree. Right off the bat I like the honesty that the owner James had. He was straight up about the price and he heard our concerns and what exactly we wanted. My parents really love this Chinese elm in their back yard and James and his men really took their time with this tree and made it look really beautiful. They were able to complete the job in one day and James made sure to have this work done in time as we had a deadline to meet which was really super helpful. This is the 3rd time we have used Laan's Tree Service for removal and trimming. As before, James and his crew did an absolutely outstsnding job. With the winds we have been getting, we were getting worried about an extremely tall and large pine in our backyard that was leaning toward our house possibly falling as we have had 2 large trees fall since the fires we had up here in Alpine burned about 2\3 of our property, and a few trees. The pine we had them cut today also had grown\split into two very large "trunks" that were about 20 feet above the base of the tree. They showed up this morning at 8am and got right to work. They finished the job and left around 3:30pm. I cannot say enough what great work they have done for us each time we have had them out. They are very friendly, and do a great clean-up job when they are finished I highly recommend, and continue to recommend Laan's to others that have asked me about tree work they are looking to have done. This company is amazing! They came last week and gave me the estimate (which took less than 15 minutes) to remove two dead Mexican fan palm trees from my back yard. The trees were on a hill and surrounded by dirt, rock and fence on one side and concrete on the other. They removed both trees and the stumps in under three hours. They even cleaned everything up! They also helped me put part of my fence back up that i had to take down to enable them to bring in the stump grinder. Overall experience, nothing short of amazing! I had put out a mass request on whatever Angie's List became. James responded almost immediately. I sent him pictures of what I needed done. He sent over what I thought was a very fair quote and we scheduled a time. He had some mechanical difficulties & called to let me know asap...we might need to reschedule. He then followed up with a "we have to reschedule". No problem. He was right on time, super nice and super helpful. One of the things that I most appreciated was that I have an orchid tree in bloom. It was one of the things scheduled to be dealt with. We talked it thru...he was concerned that if we trim the tree while it's in bloom that it could potentially die and that we should reschedule for the fall when it's done blooming. I very much appreciated his honesty & integrity. A lot of folks would have just trimmed the tree regardless. He's a hard worker, a good businessman...and he's just good people. James Laan's Tree Care came out today to remove two trees that were growing right next to the slab and starting to damage gutters, concrete slab, etc. Within 3 hours of our first contact, he and his crew had the job finished, including cleaning the roof where years of organic material had accumulated. We have a couple of mature trees that we wanted to have topped in order to get them to grow wider. That is what the nursery that we bought them from told us anyway. We had received several different bids for trimming from pictures that we sent and Laan's was one of the best prices, although he wasn't sure it was necessary. He went out of his way to fit us into his schedule and it turned out that we didn't need the trees trimmed after all, as it was too soon. James and his guys were all very knowledgeable and helpful, gave us great advice, and didn't even charge us for coming out.
