My husband always gets into a discussion about the previous year's wood and we always get great recommendations. He likes to change it up. I've been an Olson firewood cust6 for 25 years. Have always been very happy with them, until recently that is. Over the last year they've nearly doubled their prices ($200) for a quarter cord that I drive there to pick up . There is no excuse for this. They also don't give you as much wood. A quarter cord used to be a full truck load. Now it's about 3/4 full. Going to shop around next. read more

This place is a great local place that's reputable and friendly. Their hours are somewhat limited (being open only a few hours on Saturday), but I go out of my way to get firewood from them. They have a massive selection to choose from, and they are very helpful. You can order 1/4, 1/2, or full cord -- or if you don't have a truck and/or much space at home like me, you can order by the wheelbarrow. I get a wheelbarrow of mixed soft/hard wood (avocado and eucalyptus) for $35, and it's enough to fill the trunk of my Honda Civic. That includes about 60 pieces or so. They were also able to accommodate my request for 16" chunks for my small fireplace. Each chunk is a good size, too -- unlike the uber-expensive bundles of small, fast-burning wood that you find at the grocery store. I was interested in some cooking wood for my infrared grill (which only cooks meat for 30 minutes, not hours like with a smoker), but they only sell by wood chunks. My needs are for a handful of wood chips at a time, so for this, I'll keep ordering smoker wood chips from Amazon. The place is not difficult to find, but there is no big sign that says "Olson Firewood". You have to look for the mailbox with its clearly-marked numbers. Each of the 3 times I've picked up firewood, the gate was locked, and I had to call the office to open the gate. EDIT 11/19/12: I've reduced my rating down to 3 stars, for the following reasons: - The last time I picked up firewood from them, several pieces had white, chalky mold on them. (This is VERY bad!! You don't want to introduce mold into your home.) I didn't notice when I loaded it but noticed when I got home. I had to throw those pieces out, and this firewood isn't cheap. - I live in a condo with a smaller-than-average fireplace. At its narrowest, it's 16", and at the widest, 18". Two times ago, I purposely asked for 16" pieces to fit my fireplace, and they obliged. However, on my recent visit, I insisted to get 16" pieces numerous times, but the office worker didn't convey this request. She insisted that all pieces are 14-16". So I took her word for it, and now I regret it. She was wrong; most pieces are 16-18", and some even bigger. While that's not typically a big concern for most people, it is a concern for me, because now, many of my logs are unusable unless I go somewhere to cut them. It's causing a lot of undue trouble, especially when she should've simply conveyed my request to the worker from the beginning. read more

I have to give a shout out to Olson Firewood because I'm just so impressed with the quality of the wood. I have been smoking/grilling meat for a while, even once owning a BBQ Catering business and the wood here is top notch. I got a couple of bags of the cooking wood, which is smaller split wood with the bark removed. FANTASTIC! Nice and dry, and without the bark which really makes a difference in the flavor of the smoke. I tried the Hickory and the Apple, two of my favorites. Perfect size for my back yard BBQ smoker. If I was still in the BBQ biz, I would easily go here for my large size wood. The lady I talked to was very knowledgeable about the product, and very friendly. I just wish I lived closer! read more

I have been buying firewood for years and found Olsen several years ago. They have been great and the service they have given me is superior. I recommend 1/2 a cord of eucalyptus and 1/2 a cord of avocado. The avocado is great as a starter and then the eucalyptus to burn hot and keep the fire going.
