Gel polish pooled over cuticles. Polish totally lifted and flaked off on this nail - within 24 hours of nails being done.

I began a review a 2 days ago on this place & entered photos. If interested in them, please scroll down to see. That post was too long as-is, so I'll finish everything here. It PAINS me to write this review. The owner of Lovely Nail, Don, is the nicest guy you'll meet. If you go into the salon and he's there, you'll find him greeting everyone - many by name - & meandering about engaging with everyone there. He makes sure everything goes well. If Don is there, there will be no issues. I know. I've gone to the salon for about ten years. While the only two stellar nail techs are Tina & Gigi, the rest of them are good enough - especially for the price. It's been really rare that the nails were done super well. But nothing to complain about, you know? I mean, really? At that $? But truth be told, it's also been rare that terrible things have happened. Again, when Don is there. Once I had a lady darn near burn my hands. We were taking nails off. I've had that done before. They stick aluminum foil wraps around your fingers. This woman put my hands straight into acetone & kept them there for SEVERAL min. My hands began to itch. I told her. She was curt. She told me to keep my hands in. No care in the world to my itching hands. The hands - after more time - began to feel like they were on fire. They began to swell. I told her. Repeatedly. Nicely. She ignored me & was rude. At some point, I had enough & raised my voice. It's not okay to put a customer into that type of position where she has to raise her voice to be heard. But I did. Don was there. Handled everything immediately & appropriately. I've had a couple of other situations. Again, Don was there & handled them. Were Don always there - a feat no one can manage - I'd rate the place a four. Could never give it a five as the place isn't really as clean as it should be. For exp, there are only two nail brushes at the sink for everyone in the salon that day to use to wash their nails during a gel paint job. You heard that right. Only two. They're never put into the Barbicide solution that every other salon I've been to uses to disinfect such things - even in MEXICO where I've spent much time. I've never seen the instruments sterilized either - just wiped off. That said, I'm assuming - hopefully - they do something more than I've seen at night. The floors always look like they need a deep clean. The stations are clean enough, depending upon whose station you're at. Yeah, if you're a clean freak, not the place for you. That said, it's not filthy. I mean, I went for ten years on and off, right? :) The problem is that when Don isn't there & Wendy is in charge the place goes to hell. Wendy is bar none the rudest person I've met in business. When I got my nails done & saw - in the natural light - just how bad they were, I went right back into the salon & told them. Didn't even leave the parking lot. At no time did anyone even ask to see the nails. Not good. They offered to touch them up. Touch them up? They needed to be totally redone. I had to go to work. I didn't ask for $ back. I just wanted them to see the work and asked them to be more careful. Again, they never saw the work as they never asked to see the work. I was going to let it go & just never see that tech again. But then, within 24 hours, the gel polish started PEELING off my nails?! I had to work two back-to-back ten hour days & then leave to go to Boston. I didn't have time to get them redone. I called. Asked to speak to Don. Politely for the first five times. YES, I politely asked to speak to Don 5 times. Each time I was asked rudely by some guy, "What do you want?" Finally I wasn't so polite. I told the guy I'd asked politely 5 times to speak to Don & couldn't understand why a polite request wasn't being granted. He told me there were two Dons & that the owner wasn't there that day. This is an exp of really poor customer service. There was no need to agitate a customer here. "Ma'am, which Don did you need to speak with, because the owner isn't here." That's all that needed to be said when I asked the 1st time. They put Wendy on the phone. I tried, politely at first, to tell her the issue. No apology for the situation. No decency, actually. Just beyond rude. I needed to come back - & get this - WAIT my turn after everyone else to get them redone. No, I couldn't make an appt. That wouldn't be fair to those waiting. WHAT? Lady, I have already waited my turn. You go to the post office and they make you step out of line to finish the packaging. But then they let you get back to the front of the line. Deference needs to be paid to folks you've wronged? You're wasting MY time because nails were done atrociously. Let's not get this twisted? She was so rude that, frankly, I was none too polite at the end. Went & got my $ back. She never even came to speak to me. No one looked at my nails. A worker was sent to ask me not to return. Like I ever would.

Man O Man this is a hard one for me because I've been coming here on and off for years and with all due respect to Don but damn. How I spend 50$ for this shit! Lee press ons look better I'm actually embarrassed. What I wanted in shape is an almond look and aside from Pictures I shared with my Tech I got her work on my hands alright. Upset beyond belief. Been getting my nails done for a long time now! 25 years! This is probably worse than something I got in the 90s. Sorry but I will never come back! On top of that you get way over charged by length here ain't no 35$ gel full set. I got charged 15$ extra dollars for this baby length like nah. N gave me the discount price for the nails not mentioning the discount was already added to that price so what discount? 50 for this mess! I'm good

This is my nail lifting up and this is just one of them.

I went to go get my nails done here on the 4th of July, the next day my gel pedicure was already gone off of one toe. As a couple days go by the gel polish on my hands are lifting and are getting caught in my hair. The young lady who did my pedicure cut my toe while doing my cuticles. When I came back to get it fixed on July 12th, because I work and am school for nursing, they told me that it cannot be fixed and that it's time to get it done all over again anyway. I will not be returning here because this is the second time I came here and had a terrible experience. The manager was of no help and did not apologize for the experience or the inconvenience. I do not recommend coming here at all, they take your money and do not care about the experience or accommodating for the inconvenience.

I always L O V E my nails when I leave this salon. These ones are due for a fill but safe to say I've been going here for a couple months now and have yet to be disappointed. Fair prices too. I drive an hour just to go to this salon. That should say something.

BOMB service! My friends and I went in here on a Sunday AFTER it was closed and they still took us and stayed late to make sure we were happy. All of the nail techs in there know how to file and it may seem as if they are rushing, but that's just how they work, fast! Don (the owner) is sooooo sweet and made all of us feel welcomed! They also have discounts if you come Mon-Thur and pay with cash. It was definitely a win win and my friends and I will definitely be back!

I kid you not...this is a picture of my nails after just leaving the Lovely Nail Salon, Oxon Hill, MD.

Never again! I requested a regular manicure. 3 coats later of "DND" Polish, which I wonder if it is manufactured for gel manicures, I ended up with clumps of polish on my nails. The young guy who did my nails barely touched my cuticles. His technique was off. He applied the polish on my nails as if he was applying gel, patting and not stroking the polish on, therefore causing clumps. I have to wonder if a lamp would have helped with drying as opposed to a fan. My brows weren't done well. Wendy rushed through them. The owner seems nice. I won't be back. The service is totally lacking!

Nasty salon they refuse to wash hands and clean behind switching customer

I've been a customer at lovely nails for a few yrs now.... Recently I started getting my lashes done there as well..... long story short I have very sensitive skin So I always asked that before we start my lashes if they could wash their hands, well evidently!!!! that was a problem!!!! Each time Wendy the owners wife would refused to wash her hands after servicing a customer before me I'm not a picky customer and I'm not hard to get along with I just have very sensitive skin but I'm very disappointed that they would turn down business to avoid washing her hand I've spent thousands of dollars there and sent plenty of customers but I'm so unsatisfied with my service today I will never return again

Came to this spot twice and haven't been disappointed yet. I can't remember the name of the lady that did my nails the first time. But Tina did a beautiful job on my nails today for my bday weekend. So I will be going to her for now on.

I told the nail tech please don't use the drill on my nails, for my nails are very brittle from other techs shaving them down. My nail beds hurt. My nails are transparent. She caught an attitude, did a very sloppy job. I got nail dip. It's very hard to mess that up. I've had my nails short and shorter than they are now and look 100% better. I won't be back. Why is it so hard to find a good nail tech. My nails should look as good underneath and on top period. I'm not a happy customer at all. My nails look like little potatoes. Very bulky and cuticles are grossly undone.

I am in DC temporarily for cancer treatment so I wanted to find a place to get my lashes done…read morebecause it's the one (vain) thing that makes me feel better right now. This place got good reviews so I booked an appointment at the Eastern Market location since it's near the place I'm staying. The night prior, they called and asked if I'd be willing to go to the Dupont Circle location instead so that the technician could fit in more appointments. It was annoying, but not a huge deal. I was getting lash removal & a new set of classic/hybrid lashes. I've been getting eyelash extensions for 13 years and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. They were thin, whispy, pre-made fans that were poorly glued onto only some of my lashes. They started falling off almost immediately, and there were visible white clumps of glue that a friend pointed out because she thought I had crumbs on my eyes. One week later when I went to another eyelash studio, they couldn't even tell I had any extensions on until they put me under the lights. I would've been better off just curling my own lashes & using mascara because mine are thicker & longer than whatever they used. I've never had such poor quality.
