New nail salon in Bowie. I've driven by this place a few times and decided to try it out today. The salon is very clean and doesn't smell like your typical nail salon! The tools used had been sterilized. They use plastic liners to line the pedicure bowls, which is a plus! The staff are very welcoming and polite. I got a gel pedicure by Daniel. Daniel was very personable and makes me want to become a regular client. The decor is very modern and clean. I plan on returning here for my next pedicure! Wednesday 05/29, I came to Mavana Nails at my mother's recommendation and purchased the Groupon for a gel mani and paid out of pocket for a gel pedi. It went downhill fast: the color I picked apparently was old. It was sticky and there was not much polish left in the bottle. Rather than telling me before applying the color to my nails, he applied the color anyway. Of course, like old polish is known to do, it applied in patches and did not offer full coverage. It also did not self level the way it should have. It became really bad once a few coats were applied-- patches galore. I mentioned it was applying poorly and was told it was because the color was too light and that topcoat would fix it. They fixed it as much as they could with an additional coat and applying more polish to the patchy areas. Eventually, he confessed the polish was old and that's why it didn't apply well. He covered it up as best as he could and I really needed a pedicure so I said it was fine. Another manicurist took the polish back when it came time for my manicure. The manicure was fine. The polish had been chilled -- or maybe something added to it -- before application and was much wetter this time. Application was normal and not rushed through. The polish was very thick on my nails because of the number of coats needed though. Even though I had not had the best experience there I was willing to give them another shot with a fresher polish. However, I have changed my mind. I am writing my review because 2 days later I am experiencing peeling, chipping along the edges, and denting. I am not very active and have been at home since the manicure. No reason for this kind of damage within two days. I have attached a photo of the nail that had begun peeling. You can see a bubble of sorts in the peeled area-- where the gel is not adhering to itself and created a pocket. I think this is the cause of the denting I see on other nails. If I press lightly with my finger nail, I can see a clear outline that fades away with time. I have been getting gel for at least two years and this is not normal. Something was seriously wrong with the polish. I also have curing flaws along the edges of my nails. Not a happy experience. I will be calling them and seeing what they can do to fix this. I just paid almost a $100 for these nails only two day ago and they are already falling apart and peeling. I have a big event tomorrow and unfortunately have to go with peeling nails. read more

Clean, calming, relaxing. Eye brow waxing ($10) and the paraffin spa pedi ($48) was both amazing. My feet and legs feel so smooth and rejuvenated. Had no redness from the waxing at all. The pedi baths are lined each use; so no harsh chemicals are used to clean them while you are sitting in the chair. Lots of colors to pick from and sorted out to make choosing easier. I do not recommend them at all! My first and last time going! My French gel manicure was janky! I have all these bubbles that continued to appear on the clear and white part of my nails. There are visible paint brush lines. And it's as though Kim didn't go over the white with a 2nd coat so you can kinda see through it. My lines aren't even either. This place has seriously gone downhill. I enjoyed this place the first few times that I came in, but the last two times that I have gone in, it's definitely lacked in every aspect. The first thing I'll say is, as soon as I didn't choose to upgrade to a gel manicure or one of the more expensive manicure/pedicure options, they blatantly treated me different- on two of the most recent occasions. Second, they have a van outside with a large sign that says 20% off one service. They did not apply this offer and I didn't notice until after I left. Third, the man who did my nails the last time I came in did an awful job. My toe nails have ragged corners and there is polish everywhere except evenly on my toenails. I cringed when he took a Dremel to my fingernails but didn't say anything, now I realize I should have spoken up because when I washed my hands my nails felt flimsy and thin, and I'm certain they will be cracking/ breaking in the next day or two. My cuticles are sticking up and some are painted over, and for the amount of time that it took, I could have stayed home and done them myself and saved $60. Normally I don't write bad reviews. In fact, this might be the first one. If I don't like a place I will usually just stop giving them my business, but in this case, since this place has such high reviews, I felt that some other opinions needed to be expressed. The employees may have said 15 words to me the entire time I was in there. It was completely empty, and there was absolutely no enthusiasm in the entire salon. Hopefully they were having an off day or two and maybe these experiences aren't normal, but I won't be returning. Considering that there is a new nail salon opening across the street, they need to get it together if they want to stay in business. I'm so confused as to whom is writing these reviews because my experience here was the ABSOLUTE WORST! I requested Danny per one of the raving reviews and I will begin by saying...the person who wrote it must enjoy pain and discomfort more than an incredibly relaxing service. I guess I'll begin by stating that as Danny was applying the nails for my full set, the very first nail was crooked. Upon mentioning this to him, he decides the smartest thing to do would be to rip it off...of course I let him have it in the nicest way. Next, his drilling/filing is EXTREMELY painful and uncomfortable. I mentioned that to his as well, and instead of altering his method to appease me, the customer, he chooses to continue being rough. Lastly, I showed Danny a specific picture of how I wanted my nails to look; a basic coffin shape, not too long. Let's just say, I have regular shaped nails, all different lengths. Nice modern California style nail salon in Bowie. Staff was very friendly and greeted me when I arrived and took very good care of my while I was there. I had an appointment, so when I got there she made sure that my station was ready. I got a pedicure and an manicure. I'm not the biggest fan of manicures but I have to say this one was nice and I was able to find a nice neutral color. I love the bowls they had for pedicures. The seats have outlets so you can charge your devices while you are being helped. The foot massage was amazing! They have a nice color selection and the salon also does SMS. Come in Monday-Wednesday and get a Gel manicure for $25 (which I plan to take advantage of). read more

I cannot enough explain how mad I am with this "professional" powder dip manicure. I picked a pretty light sky blue powder. I should have known the tech was very rough and cut me on 5/10 fingers and burned me with the drill on 4/10 fingers. I am assuming that someone used the clear polish to do the layers with a red powder well it made the clear have a pink tint making my blue into a purple. I asked if that was correct and he said yes that my nails would be blue in the end. I said "ok I trust you" worst decision of my life. The color is see through and when I asked about it he said well it's because you picked a light color...... NO. it's because the layers are not even and part of the nail is thicker. I have gotten powder manicures in the past and I loved them never had an issue so I am going to say terrible tech and terrible products! When he would put the clear layer on the powder you can see the streaks of polish... there were holes and missing spots of polish. My nails are crooked and the powder is so THICK! if I wanted thick nails I would have gotten acrylic. I cannot express enough DO NOT GO HERE read more

I came here based on the yelp reviews. When I arrived I was greeted and I was looking forward to a good experience. However my nail technician was cold. When I had inquired about my nails during the process he would try to dismiss all questions and go about working without responding to my concerns. I got a pedicure and dip manicure. I came in and asked for a Toe Nail Polish Change, they sat me in a chair and someone started taking polish off my toes however when a woman came in that was getting a pedicure, the technician taking the polish off, stopped completely with me and went over to service her. No he didn't say anything about why he was stopping or when someone would be over to complete my service. That left a bad taste in my mouth and in my personal opinion was highly unprofessional. The guy who appeared to be the owner was beside me doing someone else's toes and seemed amused by the entire situation. When the owner was finished his client he came over and picked up on my toes where this other guy had left off. Never did he say anything about what the guy had done or apologized for it even happening. I'm one that today won't make a fuss unnecessarily but I work hard for my money so I'm real serious about where I spend it. I wont patronize their business again and the lack of respect they showed me, lets me know they don't care for me to either. And my polish started chipping that evening, they need to up their polish game on top of all of that. read more

There was excellent service, I had a great experience. Lots of great deals right now. Daya took care of me, she was really sweet and was very easy to talk to and very friendly and genuine. Sunny took care of my grandmother, she's fluent in Korean which was perfect because my grandma could sit and talk to her. Lots of great deals so call and ask! The only positive thing that I have to say about this salon is that it is clean. THE ONLY THING! I received services here on 6/27 and it was by far the worst service that I have ever received at a nail salon. The services that the tech rendered was very painful. On several occasions she pinched the bed under my nails by trimming them too low and causing my cuticles to bleed when using the electric filer. She applied too much gel causing my nails to be so thick and unable to manage. When I voiced that I was unhappy she displayed an attitude and passed me on to the guy who corrected the shape but was unable to fix the thickness of the nails. He also made my cuticle bleed and each time that I tried to voice my frustration he would talk over me to try to hush me. This process took about 2 hours and I was still unsatisfied when I left. I decided to return the next day to have the nails taken off and request my money back and they gave me a hard time stating that they could not take them off because the acetone would burn my open wounds (that they caused) from my cuticles being ripped to shreds. After about 5 minutes of going back and forth I left the shop with no intentions of ever returning. They are very unskilled, inconsiderate, and not worth the pricey services. read more

Horrible experience. I typically go to a salon closer to my house, but decided to come here after my classes. While the ambiance and staff are nice, it was a waste of money. Went in for a fill with gel polish and pedicure. The gentleman who serviced me was slow and inexperienced. My toes were painted messy, I had to go home, take the polish off and repaint them. Then we get to the fill; he did an ok job on that but the paint job was HORRIBLE. I came back five minutes later to have a nail fixed that wasn't painted all of the way. A woman, who I assume was the manager, ended up fixing them all so clearly she felt the same way I did. She told me to come back and see her next time and apologized, but I will not be returning to this salon. My left thumb nail chips less than a week later and basically peels off. A day later my right thumb is doing the same. I'm taking the rest of gel polish off as I am writing this review annoyed at the time and money I spent at this establishment. It is also overpriced. I spent about $90 in total including the tip. I'm assuming they have five stars because I saw a sign that said you get a $10 gift card if you write a review. Not a good experience. read more

Yup, I'll be back. Peaceful place with relaxing music. More current magazines, perhaps, not from a salon in Rockville would be nice. I was a bit surprised by the up-charge of $5 for removing dry skin on my heels and the bottom of my feet. Clean, sterilized equipment is well worth it. read more
