We booked a reservation 2 weeks ago for Valentine's Day for a party of 4. We got there and were placed in a hidden corner outside. There were tons of available space inside but were told we couldn't sit there. It took the server, 20 min to even take a drink order, bring water, and take our order. While he was serving all the tables around us. Another 20 min goes by and a person in our party gets their appetizer from a the pre fixed menu. Another 20 min goes by another person gets their appetizer. So we ask to speak to the manager because we have been sitting there for over an hour now and received 2 appetizers for a party of 4, the waiter wouldn't come to the table while all other tables around us were served. We decided to speak to the manager again and he brushed it off with I'm sorry along with the host is with a move along attitude. Out of the whole restaurant, I was the only black person in the establishment and felt our service was denied due to that. It's really hard not to feel that way. The Food: The menu is serious and the kitchen up to the task demanded by Adephgia, the Mythological Goddess of over eating. Oh my, what to order? Here comes the Sunshine. Be advised, Feta Cheese shows up in many of the dishes. Greeks put it in everything including but not limited to Toothpaste, Tanning Lotion, Shaving Cream, and Soap and if those items are as tasty as all dishes I had with Feta here I'd eat that too. Spiritiki Salad had Whole Leaf Baby Gem Leaves stacked up like a new construction project. Add Cherry Tomatoes, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Strips, Barrel Aged Aged Feta, Golden Greek Pepper swaddled with a ladle of Feta Vinaigrette. What a great way to begin the culinary odyssey. Some Rustic Warm Sourdough Bread (with Feta Spread) appeared and made a fine sop for everything left behind which won't be much despite the portions which would please Hercules. Kalokithokeftedes was actually Zucchini Fritters which were Falafel-esque. Crispy little fritter critters that were greaseless, Herbal Cakes with Pickled Red Onions, Radish Coins, Dill, and Tzatziki and, yup, you guessed it, Feta. No crumb left behind from this dish. Brizola was a Medium-Rare 14oz NY Prime Steak sliced thick without a speck of fat or mystery chew. A nice knob of Tirokafteri (Spicy Feta Spread) was a welcome addition. If you're not on a strict Mediterranean Diet since your last arterial By-pass this is way too good to pass up. I thought Bzizola was like Breciole (Italian) or Matambre (Argentine) stuffed Beef with the meat folded over itself. The Brizola here is terrific and great in your Machaca in the morning. Ochi! Before you ask for take home boxes mop up all the juices with the heel of your Bread or your shirt tail. "Sunshine, what's the best Fish tonight?" "Fagri" he shot back. "It's White Snapper only found in Greek waters. I show you the head and tail and then carve to the filets in front of you". Served with Lemon, Capers so as not to overwhelm the delicate fish, this was brilliant. Spanokorizo was a great Side Dish. Sauteed Spinach, Rice, Green Onion Slivers, Lemon, Olive Oil, and all together now...Feta. Add that to breakfast if you don't clean your plate. Greek Shakshuka, thavmacios. (Wonderful). Dessert anyone? "Sunshine, any suggestions?" "Yes, of course, no to the Baklava. You can get that at any 7-11 in Tehranegles these days. Have the Golaktabouriko". "The whatiko?" Louká is one of those challenging restaurants to review because so much of it is wonderful and done tastefully yet there are crucial misses in the most important of things one reviews... weighing it all against the cost of a full meal there, the score is impacted. Let me explain... You walk in and are greeted, not only by a handsome, elderly maitre d in a well tailored suit but you are immediately made aware of the restaurant's warm and beautiful decor... the bar, the booths, what with their tasteful fabrics employed in their construction, the tasteful art hung in a salon style, the lighting and floral arrangements-- it all works and works very well, and maybe to some detriment of the restaurant because the careful execution therein supersedes that of the main entrees. Every main entree ordered at our table, from the lamb chops to the shrimp to the chicken, elicited some form of recommendation as to how it could be better by the patron it was intended for. I for one had the lamb chops and for $58, you only get three and they were quality meat, but somewhat lacking in the oomph flavors I was expecting. I felt they could use a little more seasoning and there should have been at least four of them... these are the kind of grumblings I heard throughout our fair host's birthday dinner. Mains garner a 3/5 by me. Now, as to the mezzes appetizers and salads, these were all EXCELLENT! I truly appreciated the quality of the vegetables and all the Greek plays on spiced eggplant baba ghanoush and hummus etc. Of note are the fried zucchini chips with dipping tzatziki sauce. Delicious stuff, beautifully arranged. So 5/5 here even if the portions of some left something to be desired. I'd return for these and a martini and sit at the bar, which features excellent liquors but is a true rape, price-wise... I mean, a pour of Weller Special Reserve is $65!?! That is a bottle that can be found in stores for $45. The Weller Antique 107 proof was something like $115 a pour and I pick up bottles of it for less than that... scandalous. So I find myself a bit conflicted when tasked to ascribe an overall rating to Louká as the stage was set for such a show but when the curtain rose? I was underwhelmed by the main attraction entrees. The service on the floor was excellent but the servicing in the kitchen? Could use a tune-up. It truly could have been an off night, as some dishes seemed limited by the fact that they didn't even have the ingredients to prepare them. As such, I'm generously giving Louká 4/5 stars. Absolute gem. Went here for date night and it had to be one of the coziest spots we've been to in the area. We were greeted warmly from beginning to end which made our entire experience magical. When you walk-in to louka, it doesn't feel you walk-in to a Greek restaurant. It feels like a nice and vintage restaurant but you don't get the Greek vibe; not even playing Greek music. The food is amazing and flavorful; but obviously they don't have all the Greek food options (they have mostly seafoods). The service is exceptional and friendly. I can't get past how bad the service was. Each couple ordered 3 dishes. Our second course came out, but there was no sign of our friends. Finally they brought out their second course and our third. Their third course was forgotten until we flagged someone down. Clearly they had forgotten about it. We ordered coffee with our dessert, but that never showed up either. No one ever stopped by to see if we were enjoying the food/experience. The maitre'd was running around, but wasn't gracious and was yelling at his over worked staff. I am usually not the person to leave a negative review for a restaurant, I am more of the "let me bring it to their attention before I leave" kind of guy because nobody is perfect, we all have our off days, but this was just plain awful. To begin with, we were 15 minutes late, yes, I know its valentines day, restaurants are packed with reservations, I totally understand. I had the common decency to call ahead of time and advise them we will be late due to traffic on Canon Drive. The gentleman who answered was very polite and appreciative that I called. Upon arrival, the hostess was nice up until she looked up our reservation and in a strange tone said, "you will have to order everything at the same time since you're late". Okay, fine, I understand, I guess...(don't forget about ordering all at once, because it gets better). We got seated and menu's were handed to us, dinner was a pre-fixed, 3 course meal set at $100.00 per person. When the waiter returned to take our order, he did not even introduce himself, did not ask one of the main important questions which I ALWAYS wait for, which my biggest concern was that no one asked about allergies before taking our order. We have a shellfish allergy at the table, and that could have been a serious issue. Any who, as our order for drinks were taken, cocktail selection was very limited, not the greatest options I would say, considering your in Beverly Hills, so we asked the waiter, a cocktail that is particularly sweet, no bitter taste, in which the waiter recommended one of their cocktails with Aperol. We received our cocktails and off the bat, one of our guests immediately did not like the cocktail. In any restaurant establishment, if you see your paying customer did not like their cocktail, you would ask for it to be swapped, but no. Our waiter did not, was VERY hesitant to even check in with us even though we were being rushed to give our full order all at once because "we were 15 minutes late". All of us ordered different appetizers as our first course as we would think to share, every single plate we ordered was worse than the other. I have been to many Greek restaurants, many in Beverly Hills, and let me tell you, nothing like this before. We of course did not say or even dare to complain as we already experienced the cocktail issue. Our second course arrived, most of us ordered the "branzino", actually 3 out of the four guests ordered fish and 1 ordered a filet. The branzino had NO flavor/taste what so ever, I was appalled. Not even a lemon was placed next to the fish as garnishment. During this time, we were not once checked in by the waiter to see "hey how is everything going? Can I bring you anything else?" Nothing, Nada. Forcefully ate and swallowed the second course because we were hungry to be honest. The bussers immediately cleaned up our plates as we finished, which they were the only respectful ones in this establishment I would say, and then we just sat there, sat there for over 20 minutes with nobody checking in on us. We had to flag down our busser and ask can we please get our dessert? Not even the waiter stopped by our table. After a long 20-25 minutes, our dessert arrived, which was probably the only tasteful thing we ordered. We finished within 10 minutes, and look who pops out, our waiter, our dearest sweet, kind, waiter. Hands the check at a whopping $700.00 balance. $700.00 for a 3 pre-fixed course meal, and 4 cocktails(actually 5 I am assuming because they never took off the horrific tasting cocktail from the start), and then proceeded to kick us out because "there is a line of people waiting". Our table was a round table which sat 4-5 people. The 3 guests who were waiting were parties of 2... Moral of the story, the grand total could have been $1,000.00 or whatever, its not about the money, its about the service, its about making your paying customers feel welcomed, feel like they are family, feel like they are at home. This was by far one of the WORST experiences I could have ever encountered at a "fine dining restaurant". I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to ANYONE. Take your money and go to another actual fine dining establishment on Canon Drive because let me tell you, there ARE MANY other places better than Louka Beverly Hills. Do Better, respect your paying customers and most importantly, if you claim to be a professional dining service, your staff should be properly trained in standard service etiquette. read more

We shared appetizers, and a bottle of wine, recommended by the staff. We shared an entire fish, seabass, as well as side dishes. Finally, we shared desserts! First time at Louká--and I'll admit, as a San Franciscan, I usually avoid the glitzy Beverly Hills scene. Places where "see and be seen" is more important than seasoning. But this spot surprised me in the best way. Walked in and immediately got into some playful banter with the host (I think his name was Martin--charming, welcoming, and patient with all my "where did the lamb grow up?" questions). He seated us at a beautiful booth that was slightly too low, but the team rallied with pillows and napkins to build me a makeshift throne. Major points for creative problem-solving. I'm picky with cocktails, but Sologo, the bartender, was on it. She nailed my overly complicated drink order with grace and zero eye rolls. Food? Incredible. The Greek salad was so fresh we questioned why we even asked for dressing on the side. The spanakopita was good--could've been better--but we still polished it off like champs. Okay. Lots of fantastic things to say about this place. First of all, the chef here is truely putting a lot of love into this food, chef highlights the use of quality ingredients, seasoned perfectly. I ordered the Greek salad and recognised a lot of the vegetables in my salad from the Santa Monica farmers market. I love when a restaurant takes advantage of the incredible produce we have in California. I will say, this greek salad was exceptional one of the best I've ever had, featuring a variety of in season tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, and a bright, lemony oregano dressing. The service is fine, as is the food. A lot of the plates we had were a bit on the dry and dull side, but the grape leaves and fig flatbread were very good. The room is beautiful and the location is prime, which is why they can get away with the stiff prices. In another location, I would be annoyed to pay even half what they charge for dishes that are generally mediocre. Not great or poor eating - it's adequate Mediterranean cuisine served in a place where you get to see and be seen. I won't likely return unless I'm with shallows friends or folks from out of town. If you want a better than average meal, look elsewhere. PS, the corkage policy is abusive and inflexible, but the wine list has quality selections at reasonable prices. read more

We stopped here for dinner while visiting relatives in LA. My brother likes the lunch specials at Avra, but we were too late for that. The outdoor outdoor seating area is cozy and charming and welcomes dogs. Our waiter was snooty in a partly comical, partly critical way since my 80 year-old brother had a lot of questions about Greek food. We had eaten a late lunch and our appetite were small so we shared entrées. The $32 house salad was delicious but quite small, especially in light of the price winds by the glass were extremely pricey. We decided to share a glass of Greek wine, which was over $25 which meant about 2 ounces each. However, the wine had so much sediment and we could only enjoy about half of that amount. The sommelier didn't reappear to check and see how we liked the wine anyway. Saganaki appetizer and the traditional moussaka were well executed. A bread basket was brought to our table which we hadn't ordered so we assumed it was complementary, but we got our bill we saw they charged five dollars for the boring baguette slices and some dried up pita. Compared to Kokkari, which is the premier elegant Greek restaurant in San Francisco this place doesn't cut the mustard and is less friendly, more expensive, and less inviting in ambience. read more

I understand fine dining and how certain food is so decadent that it requires only a bite. But this I did not quite understand. For four people, we ordered three appetizers (octopus, lamb, grilled vegetables) and the sea bass to share (they told us it was four pounds and could serve four, but it was four pounds RAW and could really serve 1-2). The appetizers were so small that we each got literally bite of each. So for ~ $200 we each got about 5 bites of food and nothing was particularly special or decadent. We would have ordered more, but at that portion size it would have meant ordering a significant amount of more dishes to reach non-hunger level... so instead, we went to Chik Fil A on the way home. Wanted to try a new restaurant and made a reservation for this fancy Greek restaurant! The staff were all experts, explained dishes well and knew about wines to pair and answered our questions. We ordered a bottle of moschofilero and enjoyed the wine we chose. The white wine went well with the longostino appetizer - which was perfectly seasoned and the perfect amount for the two of us. We actually enjoyed the seafood more than our entrees. Although the moussaka and filet mignon were good, they weren't anything I would crave or order here again (I crave many foods, but I often think about a delicious moussaka from a small Greek spot in Santa Monica). If I came back, I would like to try the Greek salad and seabass. They seemed to be favorites. It got busy after 6 pm with people waiting on the side-walk area and although the tables had plastic dividers it was still cramped there.
