The service and vibe are great. Definitely try their collaboration IPA with Solace if they have it. However the food was not good. I had the Philly chicken cheesesteak and my daughter the grilled cheese. The cheese on the grilled cheese was dry and not melted through. The chicken on the cheesesteak seemed precooked and sliced as if they use it on multiple sandwiches. The cheese was simply wilted on top. This was not the gooey cheesesteak that you normally expect. We love the idea of lost dog and even adopted our dog from here. I want to like the food too but they need to step up there game. read more

Got a tuna sandwich and side of homemade house pasta salad to go. The sandwich was enjoyable but the pasta was some penna noodles with parmascean cheese sprinkled on it maybe one tomato and a sliver of onion. I called in spoke to the manager and she said that was the owners recipe and they stand by it. She said she would give them the feedback and apologized. Some years ago, my family had dinner at the original Lost Dog and it was very good. We were in McLean last night and decided to get some pizza from Lost Dog. To sum it up, the pizza was average and the service was terrible. Also, and I realize that we are talking only about pizza, but they really skimp on the extras. My kid's pepperoni pizza had like, three pieces of pepperoni. The extra toppings my wife and I ordered were nonexistent. We had placed our order on line and were given a time to pick it up. When we arrived at the appointed time, the pizza was not ready and we had to wait in the parking lot for about 1/2 hour. We never received texts advising that the food was delayed. When we did finally get the pizza, the staff gave a bunch of lame excuses. No apologies, yada yada. $44 for one small and one large pizza is a rip off. If you have time and money to waste, this is great place to go. There are lot's of other places where the food simply is better and is a better value. read more

The pizza's are respectable - and you can create your own masterpiece without investing a fortune. The beer selection is outstanding - diverse and tasty!!! I came here for the first time yesterday to weather the storm that was the giant oil tanker 495 traffic apocalypse of 2019. Needless to say a lot of other people had the same idea and the place was packed. I arrived at 5:55 pm and the bartender promptly rang in a beer and pizza for me so I could get happy hour prices by 6. They have a lot of beers on tap local and regional. The personal pizza was good size and the crust was good. I ordered a bacon pineapple pizza. The bacon was smoky in a good way. I finished the whole thing and was full but not stuffed to the point of no return. Service was friendly and attentive even during the unexpected rush. The salad was good, although could have used a little more dressing. Will ask for extra next time and watch out for olive pits. Real let down. Ordered online and the sandwich wasn't made. I ordered around 1:30 for a 2pm pick up. I arrived late, 2:40ish. Waited 15-20 minutes for them to make it while there. I ordered a cold sandwich because I knew I might be late and I didn't want it to congeal. And of course, when I got to my destination and opened the stapled bag, the sandwich was not as I ordered. I ordered it cold because I knew I had a ways to go before I ate it and, as mentioned before, I might fall behind the pick up window. But they made it hot, so upon opening it, I have a barely warm, chewy, unpleasant mess. And they didn't even cut the sandwich in half. Pleasant staff but zero attention to detail. Beer selection is just okay but overpriced. FYI Manager sent me a message offering me a refund, a gift card, and an apology. The apology is all I received. So they still have organization and follow through problems. This location is Antonio approved as it is on the far end of the remodeled McLean Safeway and close enuff for frequent visits by yours truly. Being the newest Lost Dog location, the inside is brand spanking new and still has the fresh scent of new lacquer and paint. Unlike the Washington Blvd location, the McLean 'Dog is slightly smaller but has reserved plenty of space for two large beer coolers. Walking into this Lost Dog (which will now become MY watering hole of choice), I was promptly greeted by the staff with a very cheerful "Welcome to the Lost Dog!". Words can't describe how HAPPY I was to hear this welcome and to learn that this location has finally opened! I've been a Lost Dog fan for Y-E-A-R-S and truly love this local business! I promptly scanned the menu, settled on the Irish Gyro and proceeded to snap up some pictures for this business listing. As soon as I received my food, I quickly stuffed my face and then hurried back to work with a happy skip and a jump as I held on tightly to my groceries. Not their best location, and not just because the four tables outside are only good for people-watching a grocery store parking lot. Service was fine but the food was just okay: waffle fries were better than the onion rings, K-9 featured a very depressing croissant, and the Kujo pizza had a floppy crust. My girlfriend and I like completely different types of beer so this has saved us both. I recommend you look over their menu before your visit, or you will be overwhelmed. They have maybe 40 different sandwiches.... I come here from time to time for their beer selection. The food and service is always consistent. I like that they have many bottled beers, but also change their taps VERY regularly. For example if you enjoy a beer one day, a week later they may have a newer beer on tap. One of the few places in NOVA that has my Favorite beer, unibroue la fin du monde. I usually get the Phoenix it is my favorite sandwich. My only complaint is that they over do the lettuce on their sandwiches, they gotta pull it back. I don't know if it is to make the sandwich seem bigger but they have to stop with the lettuce. Another small complaint i have is the price. A sandwich is priced at $8.50. I think for what you get it should be closer to about $7. Although it fills you up, i do not see why it is that pricey. Usually a couple beers and a sandwich runs about $25 with tip. That is pricey for a place like this. Only reason i look past it and justify my spending is the variety of both beer and sandwiches in one place. I have also had their pizza and their fried and dog collars (onion rings). All are pretty good, my favorite is their Italian waffle fries. Not many places have good waffle fries. I also like that the owner makes sure the bartenders have beer knowledge. One in particular AJ, and i talked about different beers and he gave me quite a few recommendations on what to try based on what i liked. I have to give the service here (atleast in my experiences) a 5/5. MY FAVORITE part of this place is that they sell craft beer to go. I don't go to Lost Dog Cafe very much. I'm not sure why. It's within walking distance of my apartment. And I always enjoy going. Last time I was there was St. Patrick's Day. They had a live singer, who was pretty fun to listen to. I had a sandwich (the coyote) that was yummy and my mother enjoyed hers as well. She was disappointed by the potato salad. Their house root beer is very good. I want one of their pizzas. They really look good there. But every time I am there, I get distracted from the large pizza menu by the equally large sandwich menu. The decor is pretty nifty. The history of the area as illustrated by families of anthropomorphic dogs. The restaurant is always clean. In fact, my only real criticism or suggestion for improvement would be that there isn't a lot of seating, so only so many people can sit inside. For my part, I noticed that they have trivia on Tuesdays. I love trivia. I'm recovering from a surgery and I need to get out of the house. That sounds to me like an excuse to stop by more often. Had a Santa fe type salad which was big. The chicken on it was dry and not good. The salad was very plain tasting even with the dressing which didn't add much. My kids got a pepperoni pizza which was the same poor quality as something you would find in a school cafeteria. The waffle fries were soggy, flimsy and disgusting. If you know anyone who's been to the Lost Dog and DIDN'T enjoy their experience, then you are hanging out with the wrong crowd. The restaurant has been open a few months now at the Mclean location, and everytime I have enjoyed lunch here with my coworkers, it has been incredible. Pick a sandwich...any sandwich. I have yet to be disappointed by any choice I have made. And if you didn't like a particular part of any sandwich, then craft your own from scratch! Ditto on the pizzas. They're equally satisfying. My favorite dish at the Cafe, aside from the sandwiches and pizza is the black bean dip appetizer. With chips or Pita bread or both, this is maybe the best black bean dip I've ever had. Oh and did I mention beer? Yeah, there's about 3457635793 different bottles of beer that you can order from all over the world. The only minor drawback about the restaurant is that it's so delicious, and so inviting, and so wonderful an experience...that during prime dining hours, there's generally a wait. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with a group of friends with a few kids in tow. Ordered two large pizzas, fries, and chips with dip. The only disappointment was with the chips and dip. I guess we were expecting more of a big dish full of tortilla chips and toppings considering the price. Instead we got a big bowl of dip (good) with literally what seemed like one handful of chips (bad). It just seemed rather disproportionate. I'd highly recommend adding more chips. The menu is huge! Lot's of sandwich's and pizza's. There were so many choices I couldn't choose. The group decided to get the Lost Dog Dip for an appetizer. The dip consists of 7-layers starting with homemade chili, cheddar cheese, guacamole, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, green onions and black olives served with tortilla chips. We were pretty hungry so we were expecting a huge tray of the delicious 7-layer dip for almost $8. To our disappointment, it was small that we finished it within seconds. The dip was not warm but room temperature.. not sure if it was suppose to be warm or not. The gang decided to share a large pizza of pepperoni and pineapple. The pizza alone deserves five stars! It was hot and delicious. The cheese was gooey and melted just right. The toppings were a decent amount that ever every bite was pineapple and pepperoni. Yummy! For dessert, I ordered a warm Blondie and the rest of the group got milkshakes. The Blondie is big enough to share for two but since I love desserts I ate the whole thing myself. It was filled with walnuts and melted chocolate chips. The milkshakes seemed pretty decent and nobody had complaints. The place isn't bad at all. Bumping my review back down to three stars. The food has always been consistently good here. We opted for the fiesta dog salad to start with, and it was surprisingly good, especially the dressing. The Catahoula pizza was very good as usual. But the service still needs to improve, again... After being seated quickly, we waited for a good ten minutes before a server finally took our drink orders. My wife ordered a soda which came right away, but my beer never came. Finally a second server came over and told me their cooler was broken, and I would need to choose a beer on tap if I wanted one. So after looking at the menu I picked one out, but again no sever was in sight for another ten minutes. The servers were friendly enough, but it was obvious they were understaffed and just couldn't handle the dinner crowd. I've only had the sandwiches at Lost Dog. More specifically, I've had the chicken philly and chicken parm sandwich (can't remember what Lost Dog calls them). They're were solid 3 star sandwich. Nice cuts of quality chicken on a crunchy hoagie roll. For $9, I thought they were a too small and I was still hungry after eating them. The McLean LD is a conveniently located near my apartment, otherwise, I probably wouldn't go out of my way for their sandwiches. However, the beer selection is excellent. They stock hard to find season beers and the prices are reasonable. Overall, I would give them 3.5 stars when factoring in the beer selection but since .5 stars aren't allowed, 4 stars it is. read more
