Finally got a chance to try their pizza and we ordered the large Pitbull Pizza for takeout -- it tasted great. As someone who puts chili on almost everything, this one really hit the spot. Yes, it's spicy, so don't order it if you can't handle heat! I especially liked the salami and the mix of meats; they complemented the spicy sauce really well. We were looking for a place that would accommodate my friend's dog and lost dog cafe not only was happy to have Milo (doggo) and us, they treated him like family. Our server went out of his way to make sure Milo had a bowl of water right away and gave him plenty of head scratches throughout our stay. We sat outside on the patio and were comfortable with an umbrella and plenty of space. The pizza was good, the bbq chicken had a nice strong flavor. The crust flopped a little so I had a bit of trouble folding it like a New York slice but the flavor was exceptional. Perfect pit stop for a warm day. read more

I live right by this place and never thought to try it but I'm glad I did! Our server was so nice and loved our dogs which was a plus. The menu is humongous so it may take awhile to make a decision but their pizzas are absolutely amazing! They have so many options to choose from but the crust was perfectly crisp and fluffy. I'm not going to lie; the reason why I wanted to go was because the name of the place was Lost Dog and reminded me of Lazy Dog. When you're hungry and in a rush for a quick bite and in the area, this is a fair spot to get a loaded sandwich. The Mighty Dog was loaded with ham, Turkey, and bacon; I don't love bacon but I fumbled and forgot to say that at the register so that's my bad. Overall, pretty standard quality. The chili was also fine and hits the spot on a cold day. :) The reason for the 3 stars: I would say service is really nice! The girl up at the front was friendly and helped me quickly. She was very warm and welcoming and given that they seemed short on staff, she was working tirelessly. :) The atmosphere is very casual and a bit too dimly lit to my liking, but it seems like a nice place to sit and enjoy a quick lunch. At the suggestion of a manager, I tried the Kujo Pie. It took longer to come out than you would think but that was totally okay as I was there for the game and their wonderful draft selection. I prefer the lighter, crispier taste of Mama's Little Yella Pils® Pilsner - Czech which went together perfectly with a hot pizza pie. The combination of these specific ingredients in the Kujo Pie was a win however, the Chicken, the star of the pie, was on the drier side. You simply cannot have everything you want in this world but you sure cannot go wrong with good food, beer and other civil customers. Not sure if this was the same visit but someone played Adventure Club's Crave You. I love that song. I should remember to take a picture next time and maybe order an extra Dog Collars to take home. read more

First off kudos on the service here. Every visit have felt welcome, and they have super employees. They hire well and it shows. This is often a dating spot for me, to determine if a single lady is sane or otherwise. The one with gang ties, definitely was glad to pay the check and clear out. A clean restaurant too, and that's of vital importance. This is a place you can go, and just unwind a bit. The food is pretty darn good. They have a nice menu, and the burgers and sandwiches work for me. I do hope they will add a few new things though. It is a little expensive, but who isn't these days? tl;dr - the food here was really not great... I came here with a few folks for lunch a couple days ago. It took us awhile to decide what to order because the menu was just so... extensive. It seems like their specialties are their sandwiches, pizzas, and pastas, but there were at least 10-20 options for each category. Not to mention, about half of their menu were highlighted as a "Lost Dog favorite" -- which means, they either have a lot of favorites or that says something negative about the menu items that aren't their favorites, haha. We decided to get a couple appetizers to share along with our own entrees. It took a while to choose what to order because there were so many options. ITALIAN FRIES - 5.95 Pretty standard waffle fries with a good amount of seasoning to keep me eating them. They were fresh and crispy and enjoyed with most folks at our table. GREEN DOG DIP - 8.95 We were excited about this because spinach and artichoke dip is delicious. However, it was also topped with pico de gallo, which was confusing. We could barely tell it was spinach and artichoke because the pico de gallo took up most of the space on top and even then, the flavors were unbalanced and everywhere. I thought the dip was pretty boring in terms of flavors, greasy with not much else to offer. It was also confusing that they had both pita and multi-colored tortilla chips. This appetizer was definitely a lot, and not in a great way. CUP CHICKEN CORN CHOWDER - 5.95 There were lots of chicken, corn, onions, and green onions in the soup and definitely was a chowder. However, that was the only plus. The chowder was really bland and weak, which made the whole thing unenjoyable. CREATE YOUR OWN & CLASSICS: TURKEY BREAST - 10.95 Because the menu had so many sandwich choices, I knew I could not finish reading and comprehending all the options before I had the chance to order, so I just created my own sandwich. I requested a sub roll + turkey + muenster cheese + lettuce + tomato + avocado, so a very simple sandwich. The sub was super thick and it looked incredibly (and tasted) dry, and the presentation was sloppy and unappetizing. This sandwich was crafted in a way where it was impossible for a person with a normal mouth size to eat. There was no way to fold it -- because the part where the sub folds ripped in half when I took my first bite. Someone at our table described it as a "maze" and "good luck trying to figure out where to start eating". The turkey was just salty. There was a thin slice of tomato and a couple slices of avocado. This sandwich was definitely not worth what they charged. Truly disappointing. I'm personally not the biggest fan of the food here, but it seems like a popular lunch spot for a lot of folks. read more

If I could leave a 0 star review, I would! My partner and I have enjoyed eating at other locations, but the location in Mclean was a disappointment. We went to go eat with our dogs to spend some time with them and our waiter was incredibly rude. Our dog had barked a couple times and we had apologized multiple times until we got our dog to settle down. However, our waiter had "sighed" at us multiple times and I continued to apologize for our dogs since I know some people aren't comfortable with dogs. Additionally, he handed us our food, but never came back to our table, so we had to ask another server for silverware. Our waiter proceeded to give checks to every other table that was near us and never gave us ours. We had to go inside and wait for our check. I was already pretty frustrated, but we still decided to take our food home. While finishing our leftover food, my partner had found a piece of glass in his pizza that was given to him. Service is always pretty good ,interior and exterior seating is okay/not the most comfortable. Bottom line is the food is good, though not outstanding.....however they support a super awesome cause for dogs. Gotta love that!! Lost Dog has solid food and a great selection of craft beers, which is pretty much what it takes to keep me happy. The menu here hasn't changed too much in years, and that's part of what I like about it. If I'm looking for a sandwich or a pizza with a side of fries, slaw, or onion rings, I know this place won't fail to satiate my hunger. They have been making gourmet-style pizzas with fun toppings since before it became trendy (and then became not trendy again). This location has a very relaxed, local vibe, and it is tucked at the end of a strip mall next to a huge Safeway supermarket. The interior has a bunch of cool murals that I couldn't stop staring at on my last visit. And there is lots of parking. Finally, the beers. Huge selection of bottles, cans, and taps. I was starving. I never should have ordered a Cheesesteak from here. It was basically Roast Beef heated up on a toasted bun. When they put it on the table I almost blurted what the hell is that. But I was starving. So I took a bite. It tasted way better than it looked.. Definitely not worth the price of admission. $13 bucks for a Cheesesteak and $6 for fries and $3 for a sweet tea.. Amazingly HUGE menu of sandwich and pizza option plus build your own.... also salads and pastas... options for all including lots of gluten free options from bread on the sandwiches to the pizza crust (no comments on taste as I didn't order) Couple of negatives right off.... it's a Pepsi shop and I prefer Coke products.... also while they found Tabasco for my hubby they are switching over to Cholula... this is a major issue down the road as things like chili for us we want Tabasco.... we like other hot sauces but they taste different so if you want Tabasco or Coke bring your own Hubby ordered the chili over spaghetti with cheddar cheese... it's a baked pasta and he said next time he would ask for it not to be baked if that was possible. Plus he added Tabasco (See paragraph 2) I had the pit bull pizza (See pic for ingredients) super tasty... glad they have a individual size on the pizzas as a option For drinks I ended up with a bottled diet root beer... hubby did both a strawberry malt and a chocolate shake... he thought the shake was thin and the malt was a nice thickness but needed more strawberry. Our fav strawberry malts are still Buger 21 out in Sterling. We ended up here cause our friend STEVE Smith was singing.... they have a lot of live music at night which is nice.... Visited here thanks to some help from my bank. Decent food, actually quite surprised how their food tasted. I got a milkshake and a Whippet Pizza and both tasted really good for what I paid! Would I come here again? Maybe. The live music was a bit annoying, I waited longer than average for my food to come out, and I did find the staff quite standoff-ish. The bartender was the only friendly guy. One positive was that I saw they deliver. So I'll give them a try using that venue and then maybe things will change. I also found the menu to be very big and redundant. I mean, how many ways can you make a roast beef sandwich before it is NOT roast beef? Same goes for the pizza. I at least thought they'd make a Cuban or Nashville chicken, but they do not. Cue the sad trombone. Anyway, I'll try ordering for delivery and if that works, I'll use that way from now on. read more

Worth dropping in! Admittedly, was a little reluctant to come here given the previous mixed reviews, but having moved nearby, figured I would give it a shot and it did not disappoint. Had "The Bird" (their version of a chicken parm sub), the waffle fries, and "The Good Dog A La Mode" (brownie sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream). The food was very good (although the waffle fries were slightly overdone). The bartender was solid, the atmosphere was laid back, and all in all, I'll be back as a result. This is the closest location to my house. Love the vibes and decor at this location. My husband and I enjoyed the Italian fries, dog collars and creamsicle shakes. All were outstanding. I ordered the Jammin' Jamie and was very disappointed. The Brie was very strong and not the mild creamy Brie that I prefer. Despite my protests that we didn't need to say anything, my husband told the waiter that I didn't like my order, he very nicely brought me another menu and offered to bring me something else. I then tried the El Paso Pup which was delightful. My only complaint is that the chicken breast pieces used on the sandwiches were a bit over cooked and dry. However the sandwich was a nice size, I was able to eat the other half for lunch the next day. I recommend creating your own sandwich, it's the best way to make sure you love it. As the marketing literature says, it's a funky, family-oriented type place. Parents get to enjoy beers while the kids chow down and look at the doggie murals. We tend to cycle through the same pizzas and sandwiches which are usually pretty solid. Stay away from the waffle fries and onion rings (aka "dog collars") which are inconsistent and often burnt. I am not sure how this location is still in business. The service was horrendous and the food is about as good as my college cafeteria's. Pizzas are not authentic pizza. Sandwiches are innovative but the execution is not there. Overall, I expect subpar food at American restaurants like this. But that comes with a trade off for an expectation of good service. The waiters come after 5 minutes of you twiddling your thumbs and then they get your drink orders. Maybe you'll be lucky and get your water in 5 minutes. Then the food will come out in 30 minutes. Don't expect to get your appetizers ahead of your entrees because the kitchen doesn't know how to time the dishes. Also don't expect for your server to ever show their face while you're eating. Definitely expect to be done eating your meal and for frustration levels to be raising as you wait for at least 15 minutes before you get your bill. The indigestion will sink in right around then too!! I recommend going to the Safeway next door and getting food there instead. Cheaper and faster! Lots of parking, excellent pizzas, lots of sandwiches, and a delightful corn chowder which is slightly sweet and quite delicious! I love being surprised, and certainly felt that when I wasn't that hungry but was out and just got a cup of the chowder. Even my finicky 3 year old nephew loved it and for those of you with kids, that is quite an endorsement. As for Pizzas, the Pit Bull is delicious, a little spicy, and quite salty due to the plethora of meats. For a more traditional and less salty option, the Italian is a very good choice. I used to love this place but coming back into town, it is really badly managed now. The beer selection for takeaway purchase is 1/3 of what it was. I stopped by Lost Dog cafe largely because it was one of the few places that is reasonably near Wolf Trap that takes Eat24. Of course, the animal-friendly concept behind it is always good. For a quick bite, it exceeded my expectations. They offer a variety of pizzas, pastas, and sandwiches, and are quite customizable and friendly to dietary concerns. The grilled cheese sandwich I got was quite nice for the price and let me select some nice toppings without upcharging, and there were quite a few options to build it, including Daiya and gluten-free bread, for those so inclined. Their waffle fries came with ketchup, a condiment that I do not understand. Fries should be good enough to eat without ketchup; if they need ketchup they're not that good. These fries were, however, good enough to eat alone. Ketchup discarded. The surprise was really their root beer on tap, which is kind of expensive for root beer but also very nuanced and complex in flavor. Definitely a winner there. It looked like a nice place to eat with outdoor seating as well, and reasonably easy to get to by car or Metro. For a generic American restaurant, it was quite good. If I needed something to eat out this way again, I would definitely consider another visit; and there are a couple of other Lost Dogs out there in the Virginia suburbs. read more

My other daughter had the pita pizza which was pretty bland. My salad had a lot of liquid in it like they put very wet lettuce. Dog collars were also soggy and looked leftover as well. #23 was pretty good and fresh but to add fries or onion rings they charge you for an entire appetizer making a single sandwich and fries or onion rings over $20. Pleasant atmosphere. Wait staff harried. A BLT? Disaster. (1). Ordering I was told I couldn't order it as a BLT (even though on the menu). OK I ordered bread, bacon, lettuce and tomato w NO mayo. I was asked if i wanted bacon on it. Remember the BLT was on the menu. Later I was charged extra for the bacon and didn't notice any extra. Still, those are the little things that often come with the biz. (2) When the sandwich came with mayo slathered on it I asked for one without mayo. The server apologized and while checking his order computer mumbled something about kitchen error. Ok that happens. (3) Ten minutes after the others' food had arrived I got a BLT w no mayo. I've never had one with the bottom bread soggy wet all the way through Given the way a BLT is built I took it as an FU from the kitchen. Made it a point to visit this place when traveling on biz from Ohio to Fairfax. Great, clean little joint with fabulous artwork on the walls. The staff is great - they even helped me get back to the hotel avoiding construction traffic. Veggie chili nachos was ok - nothing special and a little soupy. Unlike another review, there were plenty of chips. I had the Great Pyrenees - White pizza on whole wheat dough with sliced portabella mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, smothered with fontina and mozzarella cheeses topped with fresh basil. Delish. The marinara sauce is homemade and not to be missed. I ordered a side for dipping the bones - it was an extra $1 but mostly worth it. Good people, good fun.
