Arcata Countertops

Arcata Countertops

(1 review)

I recently purchased new quartz countertops from Arcata Countertops. Ultimately I am happy with the…read morepurchase and the way they look. They are beautiful, done with much craftsmanship and ended up being completed in a timely manner. However, and there's a big however here......I had multiple issues with the customer service at this place, which ended up affecting the finished product (aka my countertops). 1) First and foremost, the countertop sample I reviewed looked NOTHING like the countertops I actually received. The sample I thought I would receive in a bigger version was one with small, modest veins in the countertop themselves. I, however, received countertops that had wide veins, very prominently part of the countertops. I inquired about this with the business and they said, which I had heard while I was selecting countertops that the actual quartz I would receive could look different than the sample I choose because each large stone is unique. And I totally get that. BUT...the actual countertops I received looked so dramatically different then the sample I chose. It looked like a completely different product. Long story short, the owner wouldn't credit me anything, the front desk person who actually made my order was totally aloof about the whole thing and didn't put an ounce of effort into trying to make things better. I spent over $3500 for the countertops I WANTED and to not be 100% satisfied seems ridiculous. A good business would do the right thing to make sure their client was satisfied - whatever that might look like. I asked for some sort of concession, modest discount. The front desk person told me that after speaking to his boss, the owner, no discount would be given. 2) Secondly, the customer service at this place borders on horrible. They pushed back the date for my countertops installation, actually tried to push the date back twice, until I refused. They said they had staff shortages. I was empathetic with that so I agreed, but they asked a second time to push the date back, noting the same staff shortages, and I said no way. Had I not refused, it would have been over 3 weeks from the original date, until my countertops would be installed. And in the contract, it outlines how WE, THE CLIENTS, cannot push back dates and how they have the right to push back dates within reason. This would not have been reason. Not to mention, other aspects of my house remodeling would have been affected. Other crappy customer service instances included lying about not having the original sample when I wanted to discuss my discrepancy, saying it was "checked out" when the sample was there in plain sight; not communicating effectively, including not asking questions of me that would have been helpful in determining options for my purchase. It seems fairly common sense that someone working in this trade should know how to talk to someone completely ignorant of this trade. And those questions and guiding thoughts would have really aided in my decision-making. And in general, it seemed like pulling teeth to get answers for any questions I had, like I was bothering them. And when he did answer, he only gave me bare minimum information, with no follow up questions to help guide my decision. Please use caution when/if working with this company. There are only a few countertop places of business in this area and at least this one feels they can treat customers anyway they want to b/c of the limited choices for business.

Prices are really affordable and the employees are courteous. It's pretty convenient, with pre-loaded, pre-priced cartloads of wood. You can get anything from a cartload of irregular chunks of wood for $15 up to a $35 cart of oak. Additionally you can purchase pallets of wood onsite or for delivery. My complaint is that a lot of the wood I've bought there lately is hissing and sputtering, taking a lot more time to get started, and not throwing much heat out. By contrast, a more expensive bundle of seasoned campfire wood bought anywhere else will be burning quicker and hotter in a fraction of the time. With that in mind, the savings and convenience of buying here are countered by the fact that a lot of the wood doesn't seem properly seasoned. Additionally, brief internet research indicates that wetter wood causes more rapid creosote buildup in the chimney or stovepipe, which can be a hazard over time.
