It's impressive and has a variety of features, including a large koi pond, diverse houseplant section, cactus and succulent greenhouse, tropical house, and a striking statue and fountain area, making it a delightful place to explore and relax. We found ourselves strolling through the garden before we focused on the gift we were searching for. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and prices are fair for the quality. Unfortunately, they didn't have everything I needed this time, and I wish they carried more bulk packages in the hardware section--smaller hardware stores often have the 2-packs I was looking for. The staff here is usually helpful and patient even past closing. My partner and I where looking for a lamp that was out in display but was not in stock and staff was more than helpful to order one for us. I gave one less star b/c garden supply area is still unknown territory but I have experienced Christmas decor there in the past The people in the lumber area also appear to be very helpful and attentive but sometimes at the end of the day it can be lonely. read more

This store is much more than just a place that sells tools. Go there in Spring and Summer and their garden section is really bursting with color. They have every kind plant that thrives in the Eureka area. Christmas is really unbelievable. I've never seen so many Christmas decorations. And the upside down trees-whimsical and fun. They have an amazing collection of one of kind Christmas ornaments. Finally, they offer gift cards. Someone on my list receives them every Christmas and birthday. Love this place! read more

My husband and I are bungling our way through a fixer-upper house and the amount of times I've walked into Pierson's with either a half-formed idea, or a rough set of directions and a supply list I gleaned from a YouTube tutorial and had an employee not only let me talk through what I was hoping to attempt, but also send me on my way with some great tips and the correct products - it's fantastic. Yes, their prices are a slightly higher than chain stores (it's really less than a dollar more for most low-ticket items) and they don't always have the selection that you'd find online or at a bigger store. However, the service more than makes up for it and they'll continue to be my first choice in hardware stores! read more

Today I had the absolute worst experience I've ever had in a retail store. I frequently shop there because it is close to my home but after today I have decided the extra travel distance to anywhere is makes sense. While walking around the store with a friend and my wife we noticed 3 employees following my friend around with only a few feet distance from him at any given time. This is his first time ever visiting the store and it was frustrating and embarrassing to say the least. As I walked from one department to another the group of employees grew and one began to momentarily tail me. Highly offended I asked politely what the reason for the so many employees giving so much attention to my friend and how I became a part of the obvious discrimination and profiling? Her response was that they know my friend and it was their right to choose who they allow in the store and how they decide to engage people is their discretion. NOT A GOOD RESPONSE as that clearly the objective was to intimidate and with extreme prejudice. I have never nor would I ever condone someone else to steal. My being a black man and my friend having tattoos on his neck and hands gave them the right to treat us as if we were criminals and denied us the right to not be judged as they assumed the worst of us. My wife, who is white, had enough and stormed out of the store shaken and upset. No one followed her but she was disgusted to have witnessed it. We purchased our items and left the store and on my way out the door I hear them make comments. I approached them and calmly asked why that was necessary and the female employee who had been involved from the beginning and was the person who began the harassment told me that it is her right to make judgement calls of character and that how they conduct business is not for me to decide and they don't care if we feel wronged. Pretty smug but I turned and she told me as I began to walk away, that he (we) are lucky they didn't kick us out and allowed us to shop. I will return when I have a clear head and file a complaint and if that is not answered with a satisfying or reasonable response I will use the employees names, hers most specifically, as I continue to bring awareness to the treatment that was way out of line. Being a minority I come across ignorance often but this is one of the worst cases I've dealt with in a lot of years. Not the first time in this store being bothered but never to the degree of disregard as she had tonight. And she smiled the whole time as if it wasn't despicable behavior. read more

I normally shop local but after an incident here at Pierson's I will definitely stay away from the lumberyard. I needed to get a dolly or hand truck. I called ahead of time they said they had them ranging from $30-over $100, thought great! So I sent my young son to go pick up one. How about he comes back with a rusted one -deflated tires -one tire looks slashed so I angrily asked him what the hell did you just buy? He said this is all they had mom. I called back up there and asked if they had any more he said that we don't have any and if the tires are deflated he'll inflate them. When I arrived I was sent back to lumberyard and the guy said: oh yeah do you need the tires inflated? I said No need to- I'm returning this, it's used and rusted and the tires? Really? this is not acceptable at all. He did no apology!!! Just a response: oh yeah you're right ma'am. I'll go to Ace Hardware or Harbor Freight. read more

I was in their store yesterday with my husband and the female with the short curly hair and the glasses decided that it was okay to follow us around the store like criminals. This is my first experience actually being followed around the store I was highly offended and I left without purchasing anything I put my things down and I left My husband is black and I did bring up that it's inappropriate to profile apparently the female worker used to be a probation officer and she is using her past experience to profile people. When asked for her name she refused to give it. I will never ever shop there if I have to get something for my employer I will make sure that I use Ace hardware 100% of the time I will no longer be using my account there if it's up to me. A couple of older gentlemen in one of the back departments were both less than polite when my wife asked for assistance. I'm not sure if it was because she's a woman or not but they definitely made my wife feel less than educated. They tried to upsell her on a product and then made comments about how she didn't take the complete measurements of an item in our home when she realized she'd asked for the wrong size item. Once she made a selection and was waiting for them to get her the product she was given a snide comment about how she didn't need to wait for the product she needed to go to the front and pay for the item with the written ticket. All in all poor experience considering we're both from Humboldt and we've both grown up shopping at Piersons. read more

A good local spot for Hardware, Lumber, Garden needs etc. we moved to the area recently and are excited to have this store nearby which healthily feeds our DIY habits. While it looks small from the outside, the place is big and spread out. So far we've found most everything we need for both our home improvements and our gardening needs- not to mention my husband has been by three times for lumbar of great quality. If you're just passing through or living local. It's likely Pierson's will meet your needs. My only complaints are the prices of the indoor plants seem a bit high in comparison to big box stores, and the lady at the cabinet counter was very dismissive that we would want a basic builder grade cabinet for our garage versus custom cabinetry. read more

I carry a mask excemption from a doctor. The staff refused the excemption and proceded to remove me from the store claiming that as a private company they are allowed to do so. My issue is that they disregarded my doctor's note. This is discriminatory. Will never shop again here unless an apology is issued. NOTE: One of the employees was getting worked up and he was told by his supervisor to "stay out of it". Must say that the man was getting worked up even when I was accompanied by a baby. This is not healthy behavior as this aggressive discrimination can turn into a dangerous situation to clients if the staff is willing to take their anger onto them... Let me start off by saying that generally, every time I've been here, all the workers have been so kind and helpful. They're always eager to offer opinions and advice on any projects I'm working on. And the prices on some things are hard to beat! But a few days ago I was there and one of the employees said something that really rubbed me the wrong way. I was standing in an aisle waiting for my boyfriend to finish speaking with someone and an employee walks up to me and says, "Are you waiting for the bus?" I was caught off guard and confused so I hesitantly shook my head and he continued with "because this isn't a bus stop if you're standing around waiting for the bus to come." If you don't look like a standard cis male they will all talk down to you and treat you like garbage. Inside the staff tends to be more friendly. They prices are all pretty high though, i only go here if I need something now and can't wait for delivery. I always appreciate the level of customer service at Piersons. There's always a friendly employee asking if you need assistance and I usually do! Recently purchased a 12 cent gasket plumbing fitting and the guy explained in detail how to install it. Also recently purchased a lovely light fixture for my dining room. I have always had fast and friendly service here especially in the garden/nursery area and the main store. I went into the lumber yard for the first time and Cliff in the office was very helpful. The guy in the yard however seemed very unhappy with his job and maybe should look for work elsewhere. I never drove through a yard like that before and was made to feel like I was an idiot for not knowing where things were. I handed this worker a detailed supply list for my project and they couldn't be bothered to look at it. Trying to find and load everything I was made to feel like it was a real burden. All the guys in electrical are so helpful. I came in cause my dryer stopped working, it wasn't my dryer that was broken. After describing my issue all four men in the electrical dept. said it was most likely my breaker and that it would be easy to fix. However, I had to go home and take a picture of the breaker to be replaced, and then they could get me the correct breaker. Went in today got the breaker, problem solved/fixed in less than 30 minutes. Thanks Steve and all the guys in electrical. They know what they are talking about. And they like dogs! Greg took his time and really helped me out to find the right one but also to see if I would be able to purchase the backup twine that they were out of ( you know, the stuff that goes at the bottom). Gardening department: make sure you have done your own homework first. Bought two apple trees.(espalier Fuji and regular tree of Honey Crisp). I read on the Honey Crisp tag when I got home that it needed a pollinator. Went back and asked outside garden department who to talk to about apples. First person: "I use my peach tree as a pollinator". Second person walked up and said "use the same, a Honey Crisp, to pollinate". Third person joined the group and said, "you don't need a pollinator". They continued to discuss pros and cons. I walked away and returned home, researched it online. I drove back the next day and bought a Gala for a pollinator. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Pierson's, for everything. Just be informed before you go in. read more

Pretty store, nice employees. If they have what you need that moment, great. Otherwise horrible . I would rather drive to Crescent city or Redding in a heartbeat than do business with these folks. 1. I wanted to remodel my bathroom and went to Piersons for shower/ tub/surround assistance. They literally showed me a black and white catalog of the few brands they carry and told me to go online and pick what I want then come back. 2. Mothers day- they only had 1 of a backsplash tile my mom needed for a project; they were placing an order for more the next day, so I purchased ithe one and they took my info to call me when the order was received. Its September, no call. 3. I brought in a damaged window screen for replacement; price was great, they measured and said it would be couple weeks because they had to order corners. Ok. 2 weeks later they call stating they need more info; I call back asking what info is needed, and am told nothing, your screen is ready. Are you sure? I ask, referencing prior calls. Yes, it's ready. I go to pick up, and they haven ordered the corners because they did not write down the colors. Really? And you wonder why we go out of town, even out of state! read more

I was in the lumber yard on 08/03/20 at around 5:30 to purchase a sheet of plywood and some bricks. The person who helped was courteus and helpful. The problems I had was when I stopped to pay for the items. The rude little shit at the kiosk demanded to know if I had a mask. He then proceeded to demand that I put it on shouting at me to do so. When I asked why I had to as we were at least 5 ft apart with him in the kiosk and me sitting in my truck with the window rolled up about a 1/3 of the way he then shouted at me and demanded I do so or he would not help me. He acted like one of those terrorists destroying portland. I have never been treated as rudely as this kid treated me ever when shopping in piersons and never will again as my shopping days are over with them. read more

Waste of time. Called this place prior to coming in to get blinds cut. I talked to a guy twice over the phone and was told that they can do it, and with a price. I told the person that I had bought the blinds from Home Depot and they didn't cut it to the right measurement. They said no problem, they can do it for 2.00 each set. I drove all the way here and then was told they won't do it. Clearly the policies for this company is not well known. read more

While it is a convenient place to get hardware I had a rerrible experience there today. I went to pay for my items using Samsung Pay and the checkout girl said that it doesn't work on their scanner. I informed her that it works on any scanner as it basically does the same thing as swiping your card. My wife tapped the machine with her phone and the girl grabbed her wrist and told her that they don't get paid when using that because their computer system isn't set up for it. I told her she had no clue what she was talking about and didn't understand how a card scanner works. My wife should have demanded to see this manager who is the expert on card scanning but we left. Piersons should get out of the 19 70's and train their employees properly. I have never had this come up at Home Depot. read more

**SATISFACTION NOT GUARANTEED** I purchased a power washer after being highly recommended by a rep there, saying it would be perfect for what I was needing. I was concerned since it was electric, thinking it may not be powerful enough; I was right. After about a week I called in to ask about exchanging the machine for the gas powered one. I was asked if I had used it. Of course I did, that's how I knew it was a piece of shit. I was told they have to be able to resell it, therefore I could not return it. Well I should have gone with my original decision and next time I won't choose Pierson's. read more

I just want to say that I really love this place! I have always had good experiences here, they give you free pencils (say no more), and do not flinch with even the most absurd request. For example, I needed a small amount of carpet padding cut for a backpacking pad, and the guy was sitting there measuring my shoulders and cut me the perfect piece (though was warned not the best material for it, but hey, it worked great!). Another time I had to get a bunch of 2x4's and a couple 2x6's cut and they did it for free, and the cuts were perfect. I was making a driftwood bed in my room, and didn't have a place to cut the milled lumber I was also using, and they just hooked it up. I love the Ramone's Coffee in there, much better than Starbucks! And I love the fireplace they keep roaring on the cold days. The selection is excellent and as far as tools, hardware/ fasteners and lumber goes. The one thing that is annoying is the parking lot traffic and design, but wth it's Humboldt. All in all always a pleasant experience, and very reasonable prices considering it's one of the few places around for such things. You can tell it's a family vibe. read more

I've only been here a couple times, but it's my favorite lumber and hardware store in Humboldt. They're prices are much lower than Ace hardware in Arcata or Mackville. Things that cost me $20 at Ace are about $12 here and the selection is greater! There's a coffee/pastry counter up front that I haven't really checked out, but it looks nice. The staff is really great and knowledgeable. I was looking for random building materials for my turtle tank enclosure and bounced some ideas off of a floor sales person. He had plenty of time to listen to me about my project and found me the perfect item to repurpose for a lower price than what I had in my hand to buy. read more
