What should have been a straightforward 300-square-foot hardwood flooring installation turned into a nightmare of poor workmanship, unprofessional behavior, and inadequate repairs. We paid $6,800 expecting a high-quality job, but what we got was an exhausting ordeal. From start to finish, the experience was riddled with issues that we had to identify and report ourselves--problems that any competent professional should have caught immediately. The quality of the work was shockingly bad. On day one, Liquid Nails glue was tracked across the floor, leaving visible shoe prints and hardened globs that were never properly cleaned. Many boards were cracked or splintered, and there uneven seams in the flooring because the lines weren't properly started, according to the contractors who later fixed the job. The subfloor wasn't leveled, causing high and low spots that ultimately required sanding. To make matters worse, the second contractor we hired to fix the mess pointed out that parts of the floor weren't nailed down properly particularly around the walls, and the nailing overall was insufficient. They also found numerous "H-joints," a hallmark of rushed and sloppy workmanship. The baseboards, which we paid $700 to have installed, were no better. They were nailed to drywall instead of studs and could be pulled off with minimal effort. Excessive caulk was used to cover gaps and poorly cut boards, and additional wood putty stains were left behind during their attempts at repairs. The lack of professionalism was equally disappointing. One of the installers loudly berated a younger worker to the point that both we and our neighbors could hear it. It was clear that no quality inspections were being done. We had to point out every issue ourselves, and the repair attempts they made often made things worse instead of better. Despite repeated complaints, the company failed to resolve the issues. The first repair attempt involved replacing one marked board and adjusting a seam, but they didn't clean the Liquid Nails residue, leaving even more wood putty stains in the process. A second installer tried twice to remove the glue but failed both times. In the end, we were offered either a board replacement or a "deep discount." The so-called "deep discount" only covered the cost of repairs and felt like a minimal gesture given the extent of the issues. Our best decision was taking the repairs out of their hands. The professionals who took over spent time explaining all the issues and were shocked at the poor workmanship. I regret not hiring them in the first place because, in the end, we'll never get the finish we initially wanted, and there are issues with the floor we're just going to have to live with. Save yourself the frustration and hire someone else. Arcata ProFloor's lack of quality control, unprofessional behavior, and resistance to taking accountability--offering only the bare minimum to address their mistakes--make them impossible to recommend. What should have been a simple project turned into weeks of stress, nights spent sleeping in my office, and deep disappointment. read more

Jeff, the owner, came out and measured my friends house for flooring this morning. I am helping her son as he has lost everyone in his family, including his mom, my best friend. He was kind, professional and a great listener to our unique situation and budget. He gave us different ideas and ways to save on this enormous project. Trust me if you need flooring, call them!!! Not only do they work with you but also come through in unexpected blessed ways. My thanks and praise are not enough!! Paula read more

I am completely disappointed in this company now. I had prior experience with them purchasing an area rug and I was pleased with the service I received ~ but at around the same time my son ordered and I paid for carpet to be installed in my old house so he and his family could move in. He gave his notice at his rental and I moved out and everything was ready to go for the new installation and he was told 1 day before that they didn't have the carpet and that it hadn't even been manufactured yet!! Was there a reason they couldn't let us know before that??!! They offered a replacement that was no where near the quality that we ordered so he asked for a refund which they weren't happy to give. Have no idea what my son will do now~ with a new baby to think about too!! I DO NOT recommend this business, this was a terrible mistake they made !!! read more

We put in 1,500 square feet of laminate. It was a stressful project - choosing, moving stuff out of the rooms, and having installers in the house for a week. Arcata Pro Flooring was very helpful and professional throughout. We are very pleased with the result and recommend them highly. The installers were very cool and easy to have around too! read more

One of my favorite businesses from beginnings to endings. The entire team is professional and supportive in what can be a messy and stressful process. Last job was "small" but complex and included moving plumbing, appliances and a water heater. Nightmare to me, but it all worked out perfectly. And, love the marmoleum. Feeling spoiled. read more

The team at Arcata Pro Floor is amazing. My home posed a few unusual traits that might prove to be a barrier for any other flooring company--unusually-sized stairs, uneven transitions between rooms, and the world's most disgusting carpet for removal. Arcata Pro Floor finished my entire two-story home in record time, and with the utmost professionalism. I absolutely love my beautiful new floors! read more

The people at Arcata Pro Floor are super helpful. Carla was great at helping find the right carpet for my daughter's room, taking into account my daughter's taste and preferences as well as my budget and desire for ease of cleaning. The installers were prompt and the carpet looks great. They made it very easy on us. One caveat. This business is busy because they have a great selection and do a great job. This means you may need to book your job ahead a bit. read more

I am very happy with the laminate flooring and the help we received picking it out but it was a terribly confusing process. We never received a detailed estimate (including product and labor). We should have stopped there but really liked the product. We paid half up front (they told us to pay half) but they had to come back and replace 2 transition pieces that were less than professional. The bill came and, surprisingly, it was about $200 more than the second half we were supposed to pay! I will not use them again or recommend them. If you use their services, get everything in writing. read more

Starting with picking out flooring for a kitchen and bathroom Carla helped completely with that process. Jeff and his staff were great installing the floors - clean and quickly done. We would definitely go back to have any other floors done by Arcata Pro Floor. Great service and staff! read more

We've had a great experience with Arcata Pro Floor. Carla listened to my needs and guided me to just the right products. The installation team were true professionals. They were a delight to have in my home and worked amazingly long days. I felt like they were caring for my home as if it was a place they cared for and loved as much as I do. End result - we could not be happier with how everything looks. read more

I called for an estimate, and Jeff came to the house. I had several ideas floating around, not knowing what I wanted for sure and what my budget was. Jeff measured precisely and gave me estimates for several options. I finally went in to the store to narrow down my options, and Carla was so helpful and friendly! There was no pressure, no sales pitches, just a clear conception of wanting me to be comfortable in what I wanted, and suggestions were flowing! It was great. I knew this was the place to do the job for me, I did not look elsewhere. Two years had passed, and I was finally ready to do the job. Things changed again, and again, and what did I get, but a smile and an OK to make the changes if that was going to make me happy! And I am very happy and pleased with the floors and carpet installed, as the work is amazing. I am so happy with their professionalism, but more importantly, they are wonderful, good people. I am planning the next stage of carpet or hardwood upstairs now! If I could give more than 5 Stars, they deserve it! read more

This five star review is a way to acknowledge this carpet company for the care that accompanied my choice of carpet from a wide choice of carpet to its measuring and installation. The professional staff helped me choose a cutting edge neutral that enhanced my large stairwell and my multi-use downstairs and stayed within my limited budget. When the time came to install the carpet, the professional installation was efficient, inobtrusive and perfect. The work was timely and the workers left without a trace. (No leftovers and no mess). I am so happy to recommend this company to anyone. Even better, this price competitive company is right here in our area. The staff is amazing! read more

Great flooring materials. Knowledgeable. Super nice folks. Expert installation. Replacing my flooring was a long process. Several times I brought home armloads of samples. Finally found what I wanted. Installers showed up on time. Went right to work. Flooring is precisely fitted. Couldn't be more pleased. Need a floor? Look no further. read more

The day after I posted, Arcata ProFloor came through. They were apologetic and explained the delay without prompting, which was from a problem up their supply chain and basically out of their hands. The rest of the work was done quickly, efficiently, and by a friendly professional. Thanks, ProFloor. read more

This was the first time in my life picking out flooring. I appreciated Carla's ability to help me narrow down and give me the pros and cons of the many options by asking me questions about what it would be used for and what was important to me. What could have been a stressful experience was made pleasant by her demeanor and Jeff's follow through on installation played right into my schedule. Waahlaah! The carpet looks great and my bedroom will be cozy. read more

From the minute we walked into the showroom, we knew our business was important to Arcata ProFloor. We were greeted and after a few questions, were led to our eventual choice for a hardwood floor for our family room - Armstrong American Scraped floor in autumn blaze. The visit for measuring the floor was prompt, however the floor was out of stock through Armstrong and we did have to wait 2 months to get it down on the floor. The quality of workmanship on the lay was excellent. Concerns over a defective board were quickly addressed and relayed. The man laying the floor even brought treats for our dog:) We love the floor! It was a perfect choice for the room. read more

We just had our offices carpeted by Arcata Floor, and we are currently in the process of having new flooring installed into our home by them as well. It has been a pleasure to work with Arcata Floor so far, specifically with Carla, who has worked diligently, and with creative expertise to help me find just the right products that I needed for each project. While the hardwood that I ordered had several delays from the manufacturer, Carla was consistently on top of communicating with me about it, as well as doing everything she could to expedite the delivery. read more

These guys are great. Our floors were a mess and had bothered us since we moved in. APF was extremely helpful in finding a product that would work with our budget. They saw the challenge when they came to perform the estimate and still took the job (of which we were grateful). The guys who did the installation were there for 2 solid days removing the old floor and installing the new one. We had some unique transitions and trim issues that they came back and finished the following day but overall it was done before we knew it. The new floor looks great and is seamless with the existing door trim and cabinets. Their customer service was great and their staff is really what you hope for when you go to a local business. We would recommend these guys to any one who asked. A big thank you to APF! read more

I recently had carpet installed by Arcata Pro Floor and they were great from beginning to end. I hadn't purchased carpet before and I have kids and pets, so I needed help deciding what would work best. Carla in the showroom did a great job at guiding me, and I'm very happy with the carpet she helped me select. She also worked with me to find install dates that accommodated my needs. The carpet installation went smoothly for the first section and had an issue during the second section. Jeff was very prompt at addressing my issue and took the time to make it right. All in all, I think Arcata Pro Floor has a great selection and is run by very capable and nice people. I would highly recommend buying from them! read more

I love my new floors! I needed flooring that could stand up to my three dogs. Staff helped me select a product that was commercial grade and also had a rich modern look. The workers moved furniture in and out, did quality work and began and finished on schedule. read more

Arcata ProFloor replaced our carpet earlier this year. The estimate was reasonable and the staff were very kind and accommodating, but the quality of work once our new tile was put in was poor. There are several sections of tile that meet with the walls were it appears to have been measured incorrectly and left small sections of tile (the largest being about 1/2 inch) that gradually got thinner and thinner (picture small pieces of angled tile) until it lined up with the correctly measured sections. There are also several sections of grout that look discolored and have small dents. The floors also were supposed to be completed on a Friday, but the AFP floorer and his ill-experienced apprentice were unable to finish on time and we had to live with our kitchen and living room under construction until Tuesday. Although these are minor problems that could have been over looked, the worst of it came to light recently (about 4 months later) when we discovered water seeping up through the new grout in the kitchen from a leaking dishwasher pipe that APF had reinstalled incorrectly. The dishwasher was a quick fix as one of the pipes just needed to be tightened, but the grout in the kitchen now looks awful and there is unknown water damage under the tile. For what we spent on the floors, we expected a much higher quality of work. AFP came highly recommended to us, but we very disappointed with the result and will not be recommending them. read more
