I was hungry after my hike and wanted to try a local place. I Googled "breakfast burritos" near me and this business popped up. I tried the breakfast burrito- potato, cheese and eggs! For the price and taste, it was great! I grabbed some of their hot sauce- red, green and the habanero one. I hope they refill their hot sauce containers. The habanero bottle was almost empty. Food is ehh and service was great. My torta was rather small and while good was just an average to below average torta. The burrito was bigger and much tastier. We got a 3 taco plate to sample and the beans and rice lacked just a tad bit of flavor for me. Service was excellent the lady brought our food out exceptionally fast. This place is popular! College boy took me to lunch on a Sunday and there was a steady stream of hungry diners lining up. When we arrived, no wait, but I still felt rushed to decide and questions to the cashier were not answered (she was busy). The menu does not include all the offerings, there are paper notes tacked up behind the registers listing other items like quesabirria tacos. It also appears they have a happy hour drink special and perhaps some appetizers on special if we come back in the evening. We ordered a variety of items because we wanted plenty, and Los Taquitos didn't disappoint. Cashier asked if we wanted our receipt and we didn't take one. But then when orders are ready, they call your number when bringing it to the table, and we didn't know our number because it was....on the receipt! Son ordered two beef quesabirria tacos with consomme (apparently they make this style in chicken and pork as well). Then he decided to add a side of rice and a single carne asada taco. His side of rice was an entire paper plate full. He raved about the gooey cheesy and tender birria. I tasted it and thought the consomme was a little bland for my taste. He was also thrilled with the carne asada, I have successfully raised a carnivore like his mama. He also had a pink Mexican soda in a glass bottle, which he pronounced delightful. I ordered three tacos on a plate with rice and rice, instead of rice and beans. My choices were grilled fish, and two carne asada. The Spanish rice was perfect, not sticky at all, nice fluffy grains and nicely flavored. I also enjoyed the fish although the fish portion felt small. It had a traditional baja white sauce that was not overwhelming. The carne asada taco was super, and son and I agreed he could eat my second one to supplement his meal. I found no fatty or gristle pieces in my steak, good quality meat and toppings. I really like their small corn tortillas and the fact that they use two layers for stability of the tacos. I would have loved some guacamole, because some places include that on tacos. We know for next time. We barely finished everything! Los Taquitos is a favorite local stop for Mexican in midtown. The restaurant is located in a strip mall pushed back a little from the main road. It is a lively place usually filled with regulars. There's bar, booth and table seating. Taco Tuesday and happy hour. I love the black and white photos they have. It gives the place a personal touch. I love all the ladies at the front. Always helpful and nice even when they are slammed and beyond busy. This is a great casual stop for Mexican. For food, this is one of my go-to places for menudo because they have it everyday. Today I stopped off for a quite happy hour stop. I'd been craving the watermelon margarita. It is so fresh tasting with a little watermelon garnish on top. Not overly sweet or syrupy like some places make it. I also had the chips and guacamole. I prefer this guacamole because it doesn't have all the extras (I am not a tomato or onion fan). Service was good, cashier lady was friendly. The inside of the restaurant is a modern upscale place, the booths were nice. Plus the air conditioning worked perfectly too. As a party of four we ordered the chips and pick, carne asada tacos, green chili pork tacos, and a carnitas burrito. The green chili pork tacos had good flavor, however all the tortillas needed to be fried for quite a bite longer so they didn't fall apart in your hands. They do come in regular street taco style with the two tortillas and cilantro and onions, with choice of salsa. The carne asada was a bit dry and needed just a tad bit of seasoning besides the grill part. Carnitas and pork were good, very tender. They have a red sauce and green sauce, red sauce is spicy (maybe a 3/5? Spice) and the green had a nice kick to it but cool (maybe 2/5 spice). Rice was really good, just a regular traditional Spanish rice and was a little moist. Beans were okay, probably wouldn't get them again. So happy we finally tried this spot! Casual dining ambiance, great customer service, fast and yummy food. Order at the front and they bring your food out to your table. Everything I had was great but the carnitas taco was so full of flavor juice it was definitely my favorite. I've been eating here for yearsssss. I only ever get the veggie burrito, either by itself or Chimi style as a meal. In the past month or two they've raised the price almost THREE dollars. Insane. It was under $7 before and now its $10.41 ish. There's no way that prices for beans , rice , a couple diced potatoes etc have gone up that much to justify such a huge price jump for a MEATLESS burrito. This is my go-to taqueria style Sonoran Mexican food. The carne asada is among the best in my opinion, whether in the street taco or burrito. The chicken burrito is also sneaky good. Their burritos use a proper flour tortilla that's slightly translucent and charred. The ceviche is also how it should be. I also really love the red salsa. It's smokey and spicy but also very savory. There were not many customers tonight so they had our food ready fast! My husband got carne asada tacos with double rice no beans as his side. He can be picky about rice but really liked it here! I came in and ordered the Menudo and a fish taco. The menudo was flavorful and served hot. A larger bowl would have been nice, but I was still happy with my portion. Now the fish taco was phenomenal! Served with lots of red cabbage and tasting delicious. The service was quick, and the restaurant is lightly decorated, so it's not overwhelming on the senses. I used to eat at Los Taquitos frequently, but after asking several times about the ingredients in the tortillas (to determine if they are vegan) and not getting a straight answer, I took a pass at going here for a few years. But, I asked again recently and finally got answers! No, the tortillas are not vegan, but so much else is! See the photo I posted for details. My go-to order now is the bean tostada with no cheese. It's perfect! The re-fried beans are delicious, and the shells are crisp and fresh. It's also easy to take to-go. I love the chips and very spicy salsa (pico) and their hot sauces (green and red). I've also tried the enchiladas with veggies (no cheese), rice and veggie tacos. The veggies are mostly onions, peppers and potatoes and it's great to find Mexican-style rice that doesn't have chicken broth. I miss the bean & veggie burrito, but am glad I can have so many other great items! I went with 3 carne asada tacos, and an order of chips and guacamole. Right around $10.00. You pay at the counter, grab a seat and then they call your number when its ready. Here is how everything was.............. 3 Carne Asada Tacos- Bomb! Straight up, BOMB! The carne asada here is probably the best carne asada I have found yet in Phoenix. It reminds me of some of my favorite joints down in Tijuana/San Diego that cook the meat over mesquite charcoal. It hits the meat with that great smokey flavor and just makes it taste so much better than something done on a flat top or on a regular propane grill. The flavor is very unique, and I was happy as hell when I first bit in. The tacos here are a bit small, but I savored every single bite of my 3 tacos. No joke, I could probably eat 10-15 in one sitting. Yeah, that good! Chips and Guacamole- Eh...just ok. Chips were decent. Nothing special. Guacamole was a little too pureed for my liking. Didn't taste bad or anything, just too smooth for my liking and didn't have the most flavor. Have had way better guacamole elsewhere. Overall, not as good as the Awahtukee spot, but still pretty damn tasty for some Phoenix tacos. That carne asada is the best...that's all you really need to know/order from here.
